    • Daniel Cuevas the joker believes that if people recognize chaos, the people will lose morality and become a survival of the fittest type society. Later in the movie when he had the boats rigged to explode and the people could choose to live or blow up the other boat he was surprised to see they seemed to choose to sacrifice everything for an idea like justice or love. He expects the people to prove him right of not being a monster just being the beginning of a society of chaos and survival of the fittest this is just my take on it where it sounds like a philosophy a lot of people have had but it can mean whatever you want honestly

    • @@danielcuevas7234 By "the curve" he means the transition from a civilized person's mentality to an immoral "survival of the fittest" mentality, which is what he meant with "they'll eat eachother". "I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve" means I'm not a monster, I am just already at that final stage, that "eat eachother" mentality while the civilized people are still at the beginning, thus "behind" the curve.

    • I would argue that the joker is not in control per say, he's just the only one willing to accept that he's not in control of anything. He just pushes 'buttons' (people), sees what happens and goes with it. It's just that he's very good at pushing those buttons and has a good grasp on what people will do especially when things aren't going their way or as they are "supposed to go".

  • "You...You have, *nothing* to threaten me with" I've always loved this quote because it ties back to what Alfred said about some men who can't be reasoned with or bought or bullied. Joker has no one and nothing to lose. He doesn't care about people or money he only cares about proving his point about how Batman is just like everyone else and that he will break his one rule eventually. that he's savage, unwavering and reckless, that was the point, that was Joker's mission and purpose, not to break Batman physically but mentally. He wanted to watch Batman's world burn.

    @nicktroisi6347@nicktroisi63472 жыл бұрын
    • His aim was more to prove how laws and morality aren't as evolved as evil is. How being on the good side requires sacrifice, and how evil is so easy to achieve. His objective had nothing to do with the batman, because Batman was just the pawn he'd use to prove his point. I have a feeling that from how unsurprised batman was when Dent dies, that Batman KNEW Joker was right all along. Maybe even knew that Joker would win.

    • I disagree. He's definitely one of the best, but I would say Darth Vader is a better villain. Mainly because no one expected him to become a villain. The Joker is just kind of psychotic and crazy, but Vader could be a nice guy...if he wanted to be. You never knew what you'd get from Vader. See, if you saw the Joker in the streets, you'd say to yourself 'I'm not going to go anywhere near that guy' and run away. If you saw Anakin Skywalker in the streets, you might say hi, and he might just kill you for whatever reason he saw fit at the moment. Trust me, the latter is more terrifying.

It was a lie so convincing that the audience believed it and thought that the contradictions to his statement later were a Result of bad writing. He only told Harvey that to shift the Blame to Batman , Gordon and his men and Maroni and his men . While he DIDN'T kidnap Harvey and Rachel per se , he DID orchestrate his incarceration and knew of Maroni's plan to kidnap Harvey and Rachel and that there's crooked cops in Gordon's circle , he DIDN'T have a plan exactly but he used the circumstances his enemies made to create a counter plan at the moment to manipulations Batman , the police , Dent according to his agenda. As a self proclaimed agent of chaos, it’d be natural that he wants nothing more than to see Gotham’s most powerful protectors go batshit crazy, and the public along with them. It’s his only real concrete goal throughout the film other than taking out the rest of the mob. Which he only did so the people had no one to turn on but Batman and themselves.

    • And he speaks truth. You don't only see the madness in his character but he is also talking about the madness that is this fucked up corrupt world/society we live in today. Order followers lack conscience. Conscience is the exercise of free will, to determine to one's self whether an action they are about to take is moral or not. Order followers will carry out an order regardless of whether that action is moral or not, so by definition they lack conscience. They say "yes sir!" and carry out the order. Those cops, politicians, and lawyers are no different than The Joker's henchmen/thugs in that regard. They are all thugs.

He’s trying to tell him how the world really is. He obviously had a troubled past and must’ve been broken down by people or society to get to where he is now but He sees Batman who is a noble man trying to good for everybody and probably respects him for it. • I'm convinced of the origin theory that this version of the Joker started out as a special ops soldier. Hence why he has no record or means of identification, his entire existence was erased so he could do what he thought at the time was for the greater good. Except only he soon realized it was all a lie, he killed people, did unspeakable things all in the name of protecting a free world. But when he came home, that world didn't really exist, he was actually killing for the idea of it, but in reality it was just so a few self-important people got to keep things they way they wanted them. The mob wanted their money, Harvey wanted order, and politicians wanted votes, they say it's all important and worth doing it all for, but in the end It was really all just a cruel... sick... joke.

    • Joker to me seems too independent to have been a solider. He hates having anything interfere with his ideas and doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would tolerate getting yelled at by the chain of command such as occurs in the military. Kind of a lone wolf. Also, any civilian could learn the same skills as a soldier if they found the right person to teach them and Joker would have the money and connections to do that.

    • It makes a lot of sense. I've always thought of him probably starting out more as a highly intelligent operative working for the CIA - someone who'd spend a lot of his time in a suit or in disguise. I pictured him getting assignments that were more and more brutal where lines between right and wrong and where "playing by the rules" became more and more questionable. These assignments were morally ambiguous and, eventually he was betrayed by those in charge of him and betrayed by the "rules". In his mind, the situation was bigger than that - he was betrayed by society's rules as a whole. In this betrayal, he was beaten and tortured (by the "good guys" or the "bad guys"??) During that torture, he was given his scars. I'm picturing that somehow his love interest was involved and probably the man he trusted most - one of his bosses or handlers. His "wife", maybe a fellow operative and love interest who probably got too involved with the "bad guys" and paid the price for it. His "father", boss/senior officer who trained him and gave him the monstrous assignments that drove him over the edge. Or...maybe those people were all in his head. I don't think he started out as a clown who advertised for sandwich shops or visited kids in the hospital who inspired to be a stand up comedian.

  • This is the only moment I’ve ever seen Batman scared, he’s either always determined, sad, or sometimes confused. But here he was scared and it comes down to this one line “you have nothing, nothing to threaten me with, nothing to do with all your strength”. He really doesn’t know what to do and there is no way for him to get the info out of the joker, the only reason he gets it is because the joker tells him and even then he doesn’t rationalize there’s a reason joker gave it to him, he could’ve intuitively known it was set up but the joker knew he’d gotten inside his head, masterclass writing.

This is why Heath Ledgers Joker is the best of all time great subtle acting.
