HOW TO MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

84 KG Massive Motor Melt Down - Scrapyard Search - ASMR Metal Melting - BigStackD Trash To Treasure
Now would you believe it’s over two months since my last motor melt. I thought I would do a big one today but not my biggest. I chose this as it was the largest one I could lift safely in an out of my jeep as I don't have anyone to help me but what a great haul of copper in this bad boy. An awesome addition to the stack that's for sure so sit back check this vid out and hopefully I'll see all you sensational subs next Friday👋🏻Have the best weekend you possibly can😁
Now this is epic!! :D
Friday just gotbetter
10kg of copper you had there would be $100 at my yard
@@scrapitaus basically exactly what his book said no?
A small trailer with a hand winch/boom rated at 300kg would be nice and it protect your back. Here in the states we have setups for the back of pick up trucks and they work well.
The 3000 RPM (2 Pole) rated AC motors will tend to have more copper than the slower rated machines. If you can find them, get the open drip proof motors as they usually have more copper than the enclosed motors, that includes all speed ranges.
Knowledge I didn’t need but now know thanks my friend
Also avoid EEx motors, they usually have more cast iron than regular ones, aluminum casing motors are best. Remember that the rotor cage is usually made of aluminum.
Copper ratio increase as the speed of motor decrease
I watched someone yesterday melting aluminum pull the crucible out of their kiln and the brick stuck to the crucible bottom, I said out loud “place some cardboard underneath and that won’t happen.” 😂 You’ve literally melted that into my brain.
👌
Your videos got me through recovery from my broken leg
Your two dogs are so cute thank you for letting us see them have a good day brother
3:58 I'm sorry but I cracked up laughing when you dropped that eye bolt into your tray and it fell right thru that little hole 🤭 that's the kind of crap that happens to me all the time!
That Thomas CD/Radio would be absolutely loved over on DankPods' channel!
He finally did it; he actually managed to find a pair of socks that are the perfect match to his metal values notebook~
I got some real tough shit going on in my life right now and your videos are helping me fucking crush it, thank you as always!
I remember when I first started watching your channel I wondered how you didn't have more subscribers than you did at the time. It wasn't very many in the grand scheme of KZhead. Now you're kicking up steam and have come a long way. It's been incredible to say to least
Without a doubt, the motor melts are my favorites by far.
If that dog wasn’t out there sun bathing just living his best life! 🤣 I think I come back every Friday more for the little doggos than anything else! 😊
I love how you just strip all these dirty little motors and just make them MELT.
Those puppies are having the time of their lives, I bet they wait for you right by the door to come home from work and hang out with them 😂
Immediately clicked to watch lmao
Yup, me too, soon as I saw it up.
So u expect a medal??
Ur cute
I so agree, coppers individual look is so irregular and so stunning I just can’t get enough. I actually used borax in my lacquer coated copper wire melt about a week ago and I was amazed how clean the bars were with absolutely no imperfections, like pitting and carbon from the graphite mould that can get drawn into it. I use about 1 table spoon per kilo and incorporate at the beginning of each melt. I also found it keeps your crucible very clean.🥳 I’m hooked it worked great on lacquer coated copper wire and dirty wire. Thanks again Bstackd 😊👍
I have been melting for a few years now, I thought you only used borax in Brass and stuff, but you can use it in copper? Thats cool
@@cesare8270 absolutely %100 mate, very clean bars. Just try to remove as much as possible with the back of a spoon. It will build up on the back of the spoon as you move it around the crucible. You need to take it in and out of the crucible at regular intervals to allow it to solidify on the spoon. I actually have a bucket of water next to me when I do this. It helps speed up the skimming process. But ‘do not’ fully cool the spoon, only briefly submerge the spoon and be sure there is no moisture still present as a steam explosion is imminent. Just be careful. Perfect impurity free bars await.😊
@@heathstott So clean the big slag chunks if needed, then add borax and do as you said? I will have to try this today, Thanks!
@@cesare8270 yes get the majority from around the edge, you can try to work the slag to one side but is difficult. ( as it it very runny at those temperatures.) This will help reduce the amount, getting rid of all is not possible.. but if you pour slowly it shouldn’t come over into the mould. Give it a go, let me know what you think 😊
@@heathstott Okay I will try that in like 30 mins, about to go out and do some melts
Watching these videos is so satisfying… so much destruction and the final casting is so awesome.
I loved that you had the fugitive playing in the background.
Loving the videos. A random thought... If you are seriously considering a trailer, you might think about adding a small winch/motor system, to lift heavy items in/out of the trailer (like a flatbed tow truck) - either self-powered or running off vehicle's power system. Anyway, cheers!
Good idea but depends on legality
@@southaussiegarbo2054 I don’t see why there would be a legality problem. However if there were to be one I would definitely like to know.
@@Halcyon7681 Australia has so many rules around that stuff Such as set winches etc you require a permit/licence to operate them.
@@Halcyon7681 so many ridiculous laws here its a joke
It’s so awesome to see your channel get massive! I’ve been around since about 100k I think. Long enough to have heard your voice a time or two lol keep it up stackD!!!
@yukari akiyama go to the very beginning and yes
It’s been awesome watching your stack grow. 150lbs from the goal. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.
“The Fugitive!” Great flick! 😉
I find the ice melt so satisfying, and I love the ice smash too.. lol
good unholy morning... (it's 4am here...) GRIN!! Another motor melt!! Excellent!
i used to watch this to fall asleep, now i stay awake every friday to watch
I was thinking “I wonder why he doesn’t pour two at once, it would be more efficient”, and then later on the video, you showed me why 😀
Just because one happened to get a little stuck? Ok
@@madmax82988 Yeah, I’m guessing that mold just sucks. We wasn’t able to use the mold until he can get the bar out… after he was done pouring everything
Using the balance to have all bars at equal size really increases the satisfaction factor!
I just wanted to say you have the best smelting videos out there. Your safety tips and knowledge tips are great. I have seen other videos out there but your attention to detail and the pride you take in your work is what puts you over the top. Keep it up and thanks for what you do.
Cheers Nick 👊🏻😁🍻🍻🍻
@@bigstackD nice
Loveing the unicorn socks this week. Great melt. 👍
I still love the look of the poured copper bars, each one a beauty!!!!
Man. You unlocked a core memory or something. I was watching the copper bars form and I was suddenly reminded of Jello in my school years, the orange flavored stuff that was awful. It was like watching forbidden orange Jello. Thanks boss.
The forbidden jello
The surface of a copper bar looks like the surface of Mars, both very beautiful and intriguing 👍👊
I've a couple of KG of aluminum smelted so far! I've just about saved up enough to do a copper smelt. Loving this hobby, thanks for getting me into it BigstackD
SMELTING refers to the using of heat to extract metals from ores. The acts being performed in this video are simply the MELTING of metals.
No that's not the full definition. the act or process of getting a metal from rock by heating it to a very high temperature, or of melting objects made from metal in order to use the metal to make something new:
@@DavidKirwanirl Definition of smelt from the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary & Thesaurus © Cambridge University Press) smelt | INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH smelt verb [ T ] US /smelt/ to obtain a metal from rock by heating it to a very high temperature
I really enjoy watching you take the motors apart. Looking forward to seeing you put one back together. 💛
Also, I LOVE watching the molten copper freeze in the mold!! Can't get enough of that🥰
'I'll pick a motor I can easily lift into and out of my jeep' he says and casually strolls home with an 82 kg bag of metal! The case wedge was a close shave and it is great you didn't hurt yourself with a nasty pinch. Always a pleasure sitting down with a beer after a long week and watching your latest melt!
So shiny copper😁 Silvery-rose, malleable, wonderful conductor of the heat and electricity.
With treats like that, those are a pair of happy, happy pups!!!!
That pizza looks delicious. When I was younger my grandma would always make pizza for the whole family. One she made was a pepperoni & jalapeno for my grandpa. He let me try it one day and I fell in love with it. Thanks for bringing back a memory for me.
I start a playlist every night to fall asleep to. NOT saying your videos are boring at all, I also watch them to relax. But these sounds are better than white noise, and it’s a mostly constant volume level through out the whole video. One day you should do a 1-TON motor meltdown. Granted, I- we can only imagine how much work that would be. Probably could be an hour long video though.
Gotta love those textures that come out on copper bricks. Something that’ll never be duplicated twice. Nice. 👍👍
Always enjoy the big copper melts, especially the pure wire and cable!
Glad to see more ingots added to the pile
Cheers from the US! I don't know how your videos got in my feed, but I'm glad they did! It is mesmerizing to watch each melt and casting. I have binged almost 2 dozen of your vids so far.
check skuller metals he got his start watching bigstackd also
One of my favorite videos yet! Those kilo bars are absolutely stunning!!
Yay motor melt! I always love these teardowns
This is a great haul. Thanks for the melt, cheers
20:51 Nice, a stone copper and ice sandwhich, my favourite
The sound was fantastic on this video.
I Love your socks! Sometimes i only wait for them!
Wow, from 831 to 841. Congratulations friend. This is how we are progressing and you will reach the goal 😁 Big hug 🖐🏻💪🏻
the snorts and snuffles from your dogs are super cute
You ALWAYS do such a great job, bigstackD!! 😃 Keep up the good work!! 😃
You are doing a very exceptional art works sir. Thank you for sharing it with us. I hope it pays you near to what it worth.
Happiest of Fridays D 😁 hope it finds you and your family in the same wonderful mood that I'm feeling n.n looking forward to another epic friday melt n drinks n snacks with the boyos 🖤💜🖤💜🖤💜
Best part of my week.
Can you imagine the size of the ingot made if he ever has a house fire! Lol
21:24 Nice shot nothing but net. Second shot got stuck between the rim and backboard.
I love it when he drops the rock on the ice.
These electric motor melts are so satisfying to watch. Thanks for another great one, D 🤙
I love the copper melts and pours. It’s like the forbidden orange juice
i was watching your channel about 2 years ago and now you are much closer to your target, i hope you will get it
Another awesome video from you, thanks and keep them coming.
Been eagerly waiting for this melt! 🤗
Been watching this channel for a while, don't recall seeing so much copper from one motor before.
Your videos just make my day better every time. Yet again another awesome vid!
Awesome copper bar's thanks for sharing bigstackd
Hey D...great melt this week! I just love watching you take these motors apart. I was surprised at the amount of copper inside this particular one as well. We're getting so close to reaching your ultimate goal. That's a major achievement man! I've basically been watching since the beginning and you can bet your sweet ass I'll be right there when you come across home plate! Have a great weekend! 💙✌️
I always find it funny when D is listening to classical music, with the rest of his vibe you’d expect hard rock or metal
Such a Beautiful color when it's being poured... there's nothing like molten hot copper.
Your videos are therapeutic.
That's a lot of copper from one motor. It was a great melt. Cheers! ✌️
I could watch motor melts everyday and I don't think I would get tired of them, love the copper melts and from a motor its perfect. That tag was also in excellent shape to be added to the list of great motor melts! We're experiencing some hot weather this year, 92 (33C )degrees with 70-80% humidity, that is pretty hot for us in the Northern states but the southern states are already over 100 ( 38C ) with high Humidity. Take care everyone! Hope you all have a great weekend, BigStackD started it off right!
@Forrest Farris I spent a summer in Colorado Springs during the early 80s, many people came there looking for work and it was hard to find a job, I did the day labor thing as construction was booming. I had no idea at that altitude it would be in the upper 90s so much and it seemed hotter with the thin air. Beautiful place to visit but kinda ruined my outlook for living there. That was the year Pikes peak still had snow in July yet Temps were high according to locals.
@Forrest Farris very thin, I could barely make 1/4 mile before my lungs were on fire, this as an extremely fit 20 year old! When I got back to the Midwest and 100ft elevations I felt like superman running!
Can’t wait to watch the video. I just have to say you bring joy to my Fridays. I actually have a couple of video ideas.
Thank you for everything that you do. God loves you and so do we mr Big keep on keepin on
Great job as always, very satisfying to watch and just in time for my birthday, the goal is getting closer, cheers BigStackD.
Always love the hot action, but I live for the play time with the boys. More please!
Yes a new motor melt. Thank u sir. Been waiting on this
I used to scrap grain bin motors, until I watched these vids. Now I mold whatever I want outta them. And people here basically give old ones away.
Pink unicorn socks. Best ever 😂😂
Damn, I was close on the copper weight but messed up thinking the casing was aluminum. Great melt as always, BigStackD, this is the best way to start the weekend with a melt! I hope you’re doing well down under, mate!
I like that you weighed them as you were pouring!
It may have been mentioned before, but instead of using a grinder / recip saw to get the copper out of the motor, I use a large sharp chisel and hammer. It slices through the ends with no mess and may actually be quicker.
3:20 - Have you tried smelting aluminum out of the rotor? There are squirrel-cage aluminum conductors in the rotor, melt them when you can. Good luck from Rostov-on-Don Вы пробовали выплавить алюминий из ротора? В роторе алюминиевые проводники в виде беличьей клетки, расплавьте их при удобном случае. Удачи из Ростова-на-Дону
BigSnackD got me giggling. Hands down some of my favorite content
Good video! I watch your videos when I need to clear my mind and have some simple little laughs. Love the way you rock the unicorns!
Those bars are gorgeous!
Molten copper looks so awesome when it’s being poured.
I remember when you bought that new forge .your going to need a new lining soon .and maybe a new mold for the copper .
A beer, pizza and The Fugitive on the TV, man that's some great taste.
Like the engine moments with spinning :)
So... 150lbs away, yeah? Great choice of motor, delicious looking haul, great pours, and a beautiful tag added to the shop. Oh yeah, note to self.... Must try drooly's pizza if i ever go to AUS. 🤤🤘
Amazing as always
Every melt get’s better and better, you da Majik Meltin Aussie Man
Car is getting repaired sitting in rest room watching ur video what a ossom day love from India 🙏
It's really cold down here too! Geraldton is like a big freezer!
Motor melt Friday!!! Best day of the month! Edit: Whoa! No spoilers, but that was a lot of copper! I thought i had it nailed after seeing the yeild from the last motor melt... But I was surprised! I guess all motors are different, but, wow! Great video! Thanks as always for sharing! Have a great weekend everyone!
The classic Leidenfrost Effect with the water rolling over the hot mold.
That SOUND of pouring copper is SICK!! Ingot and Bullion receiving meaty treats, also SICK!!
Loves me some copper. Those waves are like fingerprints - no two are the same. Awesome melt sir!
