  • Hoi, kim! Ik ben niet getrouwd, maar ik heb twee kinderen. Ik heb een dochter en een zoon, mijn dochter heet Jayda en mijn zoon heet Daniel. Jayda is vierteen jaar en Daniel is 4 jaar. we wonen in aruba en hier is de voertaal nederlands. we spreken ook papiamento, engels en spaans. Thank you sooooo much for providing these amazing lessons. I am learning A LOT and i am very happy! Since we speak 3 other languages in Aruba, i never saw the need to speak dutch. But now that i decided to learn the language, i am fascinated. I find it very easy because papiamento (our dialect) has alot of dutch words in it, which makes it very easy for me.

  • It’s interesting to experience such mutual intelligibility between languages as an English speaker. The only other language I can think of with such auditorial lexical similarity would be Scots. Truly a beautiful language!

  • When I talk to my boyfriend about family, specifically about our cousins, we have had a few times where we misunderstood each other because he calls his cousins as his niece and nephews, or when I talk about my niece and nephews he sometimes thought I was talking about my cousins! It took a while before we realised that Dutch people don't have a word for cousins, hence our confusion sometimes when we talk. This confirms it haha!

  • Hallo Kim! Ik heb een vraag voor jou. Is een "zwager" alleen door huwelijk? Is er ook een "zwager-vrouw?" How is it different than a sister-in-law or brother-in-law? Is it the marriage partner of your siblings-in-law by marriage? Is there a feminine version of "zwager"? For example, what would I call the wife of my husband's brother? My husband's brother would be my brother-in-law, and his wife would typically be called my "sister-in-law," though in English it doesn't distinguish who is related by blood vs. by marriage. (Sorry to drop to English, I ran out of Dutch.) ;) Bedankt!

  • Oké, ik heb één broer, twee halfzussen, een paar stiefzussen en stiefbroers, en nog veel meer die ik niet ken. Ik heb ook een grote familie. 😙 I've tried to learn Dutch on and off for a while now, but I've realised that I've absorbed barely any basic vocabulary. I couldn't have told you how to say zus of broer because I've only had recognise the words, not use them myself in a sentence.

  • Hoi Kim! Een vraagje: hoe spreken kinderen volwassenen aan in het Nederlands? In het Afrikaans is het onbeleefd voor kinderen om volwassenen op hun name aan te spreken. Ze zullen bijvoorbeeld zeggen "Oom Martin en Tannie (tante) Lotte.

    • Hier is het ook vrij onbeleefd. De meeste kinderen zeggen voor familieleden ook "tante Ria" of "oma Loesje" bijvoorbeeld en voor vreemden "mevrouw/meneer" of voor docenten "juffrouw/meester XXX.."

    • A word in Dutch is either male, female or neuter, which means that you refer to it with 'hij', 'zij' or 'het'. When a masculin Word for an object is referred to in English 'it' is used. For that same word 'hij' would be used in Dutch.

  • I say Kim! How do caption subtitles work on KZhead? Do you have to manually have to manually put them in yourself or does KZhead do it all automatically for you? Again! The Dutch version of Winx Club on tour! XD You can only see the English subtitles when the casts are talking normally not when they’re singing! XD And yes! Obviously even if it’s a song in ya own native language it isn’t exactly an easy task being able to understand what some certain singers are saying and CHRIST them balls hard Rhythm Paradise games make you go through insultingly difficult torture to get the lyrics for them vocal songs! 😱😱😱😱😱

    • Well, there is a language detection, but it doesn't work that well when you speak BOTH English and Dutch in the same video. So I always have to correct a lot, because the automatically generated subtitles are very very very bad!

Automatic by default but as you said you can make changes to it right? :) And I swear to god Kim! ;) Dutch IS the second most popular Germanic language! 😃😃😃🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱 First being German! XD I’ve seen kids’s toys in Lidls and some other items with the instruction on the box on them also written in Dutch! 😃😃😃Then again, that Spyro game of mine I told you about before! XD I swear to god! It has a LOT of many different European languages! 😃😃😃😃 The only one that’s NOT European is Arabic and you like Spanish right? Well guess what? Spyro Reignited Trilogy has TWO Spanish dubs! XD European/Castilian and... American?! XD

  • In Turkey we do not have a word for halfbroer they are often called just broer. I do not have a half brother or sister but if I would have I think it would be wierd to introduce them as half .)

  • Mijn ouders zijn niet meer getrouwd maar zo zijn ze gelukkig. Ik heb een zus met de naam Lena en een broer genaamd Fabian. Ik heb drie neefjes en twee nichtjes maar mijn zus en mijn broer hebben geen kinderen. Oh en mijn zus is mijn tweeling. Zij is twee minuten ouder dan ik.

    • The verbs are congugated differently. Plural is with -en and female is with -t.

De oefening les 7 op quiz nummer 5 Het vraag woord is: Hoi Dutchies to be! waar .................. jullie vandaan? kiezen van: u, jullie en zij/ze Ik heb “zij/ze” antwoord gegeven maar op de oefening zegt dat het antwoord “jullie” is.
