    • When i practice I try to find an area on the practice ground where the ball is above my feet. I've done it that way for 34 years. Except on the hated driving range mats which encourage you to get steep. Driving ranges are bad for your golf. And you wallet. I would love to see Eric but alas it's impossible.

    • My coach diagnosed the exact same thing in me with the over-rotation and tilt at the top. My cues were slightly different but they are correcting the problem. The next thing I have to work on is Setup/Aim. Hitting nasty hooks for so long messed up my eye calibration / aim.

    • Having same issues with back I think, sounds the same anyways. Got it checked out and they were saying it was issue with the muscle holding up the spine. Recommended to do some core exercises to strengthen the back muscles. Also went to get lessons for swing, and pretty much recommended same thing. Trying to take the hand down first to shallow club then turn. Much easier on the back so far

    • Like Harvey Penick taught, practice your swing in extreme slow motion ten to twenty times a night. He wrote, “Your golfing brain and your muscles learn just as well from repeating the swing in slow motion as from whapping away on the range.” Get Harvey Penick’s Little Red Book. I have high confidentiality in that.

  • A European Tour Pro once told me: “Just think a string is pulling you back just under your right shoulder, and then shortly after its pulling you back under your left shoulder.” It is is so simple and it fixes everything at once. Your brain already knows how to do everything and this intention takes care of sequence, low point, speed.. felt like this was a super effective thought. The club at all times is being pulled back. The change of directions sets the wrists automatically, you have tons of lag and it feels effortless and is painless for your back.

I used to swing it a lot more out to the right and get a nice draw/straight shot with driver but after some hooks left I’m trying more and more to control the club, coming straight down on it and completely lost all confidence in it. Also making me slow the swing down to try and control it. I need to get that feeling back of letting it go instead of controlling it. Thank you for this video 🙏🏻

  • Waddalesson, waddateacher and waddaresult! Lessons are so underrated! This is the perfect example of brilliant instruction and a simple work-on/feel to bring away from the lesson. Matt goes from 7 million swing thoughts to a couple of very intuitive and repeatable ones. The net result is a much more efficient, thought-free swing that matches the body's natural biomechanical motion. Having that natural motion also reduces the stress on the body. Less effort for speed and crucially less pain. Can't wait to see Matt dial this in fully to thump the driver and hit wedges more often. For anyone else that's reading this. If you have something that you hate or need to work on in your game, go for a lesson. Even 1 lesson can be transformative (slice, sh$nks, yips, thin etc). Your local pro or instructor will have seen it all before. It's the price of a few beers and cheaper than a box of pro v's. There may even be an option for joining a group for multiple lessons or a better deal.

    • You make a good point here. Just one lesson can sometimes be enough

      @GolfSidekick@GolfSidekick Жыл бұрын
    • Lessons are only as good as the teacher however and can do more harm than good in many cases. It is the same way with club fitting. To anyone reading this go find good instruction not just "take a lesson" but research instructors, read reviews, ask students and former students etc. Sadly there are a lot of bad instructors in the golf industry and if you end up working with them it will cost you a lot of frustration, confusion, time, money and effort.

  • Adopting that consistently is actually pretty simple. What you need to check is if you close your eyes and imagine your driver swing what is your head and body doing. If it looks or feels like how you ended, you will likely do it consistently. If the mental image or feel hasn’t changed then the “fix” will only work when you remember to do it. Closing your eyes and imagining it tells you what your unconscious pattern is. That is the boss of our actions. It is also easy to change (seconds or minutes) but first you have to know by checking it. I’d be interested what you find :) Alan

  • I recall watching video's in the past where they mentioned to practice swing drills against a wall. In regards to that and this video, I realized my head wasn't still at all. I've recently adopted this phrase as my last though prior to swinging any club, "My head is against a wall." (the side of my face, facing the target to be more exact) And I kid you not, I went from shooting mid to high 50s (on 9 holes), slicing all over, and insanely inconsistent contact to posting a 48, 46, 51 and a 43 in my last 4 rounds at league, much to the chagrin of my opponents who see a 12 handicap shooting sub 50 and thinking sand bagger. I love it though, playing from the fairway, hitting greens from decent distances out, if I could learn how to putt I might reach a sub 40. long story short, keep that head still.

I struggle sometimes with the reverse pivot, not properly allocating my weight/pressure, but I sometimes move so far forward in the downswing that my left shoulder spins out to the left. Using the head as the anchor point/top of the pendulum is so important.

It's funny, I was just watching a video about keeping your ear behind the ball, but I couldn't see why that would fix it. Finally, I have something simple I can work on. Just like you, I was working everything from ball position to grip and couldn't get something consistent. The only thing that worked for me was trying to hit a cut every time, which ended up straight for me. I can see now that trying to hit a cut naturally kept my head behind the ball lol. They begin with a tilt behind the ball...of course, you can still lunge at it on the down swing but setting up tilted will make you aware of the topple on the backswing...it would be such a dramatic move that it's next to impossible. Again, so much of this game is in the setup.

It's called Golfers Elbow for a reason. There are excellent YT videos addressing that and the ways to train that out. • I have a very similar problem. It comes from being addicted to club head speed and distance. When you know you can crank it, you tend to overdo it, especially in the back swing. Like you, I can hit it pretty hard but my consistency is bad and I don’t score well. I have the same overextension in my swing and I tend to hit it left and bend it left (I’m a lefty). So because I’m long, and also inaccurate, it goes way off line. When I have good days, and I don’t overextend I actually hit it farther and with a little draw. I play only a few times a year so I have a hard time building consistency. This video will help me a lot. Thanks for this.

  • Shallowing out the right elbow and wrist is the holy grail of the driver once the fundamentals (stance, grip, balance) are solid. This is because of the length of the club and the extended circumference of the swing plane. The same applies to long irons (2,3,4).

    • Well there you go. Appreciate someone else’s process isn’t your process. That’s the mentality we need on this channel. We posted you on Waddaplaya golf instagram but couldn’t find your profile.

  • I get exactly the same pains at times that you described. I saw a pro and discovered i had a reverse pivot. This is the cause of my pain. As Eric said i need to stop tipping and just rotate and not extend to much and just swing easy through the shot. I tend to try and smash the crap out of the shot but seem to do better when swinging freely.

  • Face angle should be about half of what your club path is (+5-8 degrees of face angle and +2.5-4 degrees of club path angle) for a solid baby draw. This is the way.
