02/22/24: Corvette tops 170 mph in LA freeway chase

2024 ж. 22 Ақп.
2 143 433 Рет қаралды

The driver of a dangerously high-speed Corvette seemingly evaded authorities after leading law enforcement on a chase from Pomona to downtown Los Angeles.
The pursuit began sometime before 11 p.m. in Pomona after officers attempted to yield a driver for a vehicle violation. Details on that violation were not immediately clear.
The high-speed driver traveled at speeds of more than 170 mph, zipping along freeways until eventually reaching downtown LA. The driver turned off the car's headlights while speeding between traffic, including a big rig, on a freeway.
The driver then weaved through streets until entering an underground parking structure. It is there where authorities believe the driver got away.

Very well built over all car. Now in track mode it's a different story. The steering is very stiff as is the suspension. The car jumps around alot.

They can be pretty big and pretty deep. And they will tear apart the front end of your car, never mind the cats and mufflers. Even when you slow down you scrape things. I'm sure something on that car is damaged, as well as running over the pylon.

Many of the roads in and around LA are simply awful and don't even get me started on the pothole problem.

    • That's a 2019 Vette, possibly a mid engine VETTE! If it's a C8, it may go faster than 170. You can't do a pit maneuver on a Fiberglass body, it's incredibly dangerous, if you want the occupant to survive! If anyone has a need for speed, take it to the track, if you want to drive like a maniac! Why doesn't the CHiP take this Vette, and make it part of their fleet? They have a transaxle, like my Porsche, so they don't fishtail, like the older ones. Has anti-skid brakes, etc. I've no idea why he rabbited, usually those of us w/muscle cars, don't do this. I've had many, since a teenager.

My original setup would barely touch 120 but my Speedo goes to 160 but there has been a few instances where I have got it up to 160 and it doesn’t take very long to reach it if you have a straight enough road. Takes less than 15 to reach 100 from 0 and that’s really fast for a non-boosted 2.0

Or the one I've heard just keep driving a helicopter runs out of fuel faster than you. Depending on the area we just have one helicopter here. Driving on the freeway doesn't work as police radios are faster than you. They just get cars ahead and radio them. You can outrun radio waves I know a few people who used the large tower block of flats way to escape the police a few times as they couldn't search 100 flats and they didn't have grounds either. They just say the car was stolen the next day. I know one guy who just jumped in the passenger seat when his friend got out to run and said the friend was driving. That one shocked me.

That cop was right on our ass but my buddy sprayed him with gravel and he backed off. We got ahead of him and then my buddy turned off all his lights and we got away somehow. The fucking weird thing is the cop never once turned his lights or sirens on. The situation leading up to that was bullshit, but that's another short story lol. Sorry for the rant, haven't thought of that night in a long time.

  • Back in the late 80's I was riding my bicycle to work one early Sunday morning when I came across an intersection in an industrial park where it was very apparent that a really bad accident had happened there. A local pizza company had had their yearly awards celebration the night before where a young manager was awarded the use of the company's canary yellow Corvette for the full month. The police reported an estimated speed of 100+ mph when the car hit a telephone pole exploding it into a fireball of fiberglass and engine components plus parts and pieces of the driver and his date. There wasn't anything left to determine use of alchohol or drugs for a DWI certainty but witnesses said cocaine and alcohol were probably a factor as the two had been seen taking them and showing signs of impairment because of it. I went back to the crash site after it had been cleaned up, and with the exception of yellow colored fiberglass shreds and melted aluminum fragments laying around a large burnt spot, there was nothing to suggest that two humans died there. The telephone pole aside from a little splintering was left barely showing a sign. I go by there even 40+ years later and think about it.

    • Car manufacturers suck. Once you start my car, you don't need the wireless key fob anymore. The dash indicates the key is out of range, but as long as you don't shut off the engine you can drive it until the engine seizes, which can be years. No wonder cars are so easily stolen. The insurance companies should refuse to insure cars like mine, that would make the manufacturers modify them so when you get 20 feet from the car, the engine stops.

    • @@StreetFighter2010 American cars are garbage. You can't be competitive in any REAL racing in an American "muscle" car. The Corvette is a joke of a "sportscar" compared to real sportscars. Corvettes are marketed and sold to losers going through a midlife crisis, low testosterone and erectile dysfunction. When Chevy's top Camaro is lighter and faster than Chevy's "fiberglass bodied" "exotic sportscar" flagship vehicle, you know what a joke it is. Drag racing, Nascar etc are not real racing and at that competitive level, the cars don't have a single GM or ford part on them... even the engine block is made by Dart or some other manufacturer. Japanese & German sports cars easily make more HP per cubic inch or CC. All you have to do to see how ridiculous Ford, GM and Dodge "muscle cars" are is see how many get totaled because they can't corner and can't stop worth sh1t. American "muscle" is crap, look at all of the bad HEMI engines that can't even be used for light duty without having lifter problems. Chevy and Ford can't build anything that doesn't quickly turn to scrap.
