  • I've never understood why content creators feel they have to apologise for being them, or human, or whatever. Viewers don't have to view, Creators don't have to give up their lives to create. Likewise, I don't understand why viewers think anyone else is interested in their negative opinions. There's an old saying, "if you can't find something nice to say, then say nothing", or words to that effect. I love watching what people like to share and I'm grateful for it. I planner hop....I have been known to switch out planners 2 or 3 times in a day! It hasn't negatively affected anyone elses lives, or mine. It just is. So for every content creator regardless whether they're in the Planner Community or any other, do what you do, and try to ignore the negative nellies, because there are way more nice people who appreciate your effort than nasty opinionated ones.

    • I’ve definitely tried not to apologize myself, but sometimes the negative comments give me pause and I get nervous when I hit publish on a video about not nailing down my system. If I find a video I don’t like, I just exit and move to the next. The negative comment doesn’t help anyone, and I just delete it anyway, because it’s ridiculous.

  • There are a few things to consider here. What follows are my personal thoughts and feelings about this. Please don’t take it to mean I think everyone should feel this way, but I would like to contribute to a thoughtful and empathetic conversation. Yes, anxiety is real and often manifests in our hobbies, such as planning. I experience this too. But I also recognize that I have this internal illusion that finding and using the “right” planner will soothe my anxiety when the truth is, it doesn’t (for me). What increases my anxiety is 1) having a stack of unused planners in my office, and knowing the environmental impact of that, 2) the idea that something other than my current planner might be better for me, and 3) factors in my life completely outside planning. Planner hopping gives me a temporary dopamine boost, which wears off quickly, leaving me wanting to hop again. Personally, the longer time I spend in a planner or notebook, the more I like it, because I’ve spent so much time thoughtfully writing in it. At the end of the year, it’s bittersweet to trade it for a blank, new notebook that doesn’t have any of my thoughts in it. The endless pursuit of more ultimately isn’t satisfying to me. It makes me feel like I’m part of a consumerist cycle, always wanting the next thing, never content. And I don’t like feeling that way. I would like to cultivate more contentedness in my life, and reducing my consumption of planners and supplies that I don’t end up using is part of that, for me. I don’t think novelty and change are intrinsically bad, in fact I think they are good, usually. But these are physical products that take energy and resources to produce and ship around the world. They do have an environmental impact. I don’t know if that’s why others feel some discomfort with a constant flow of new planners, but it is a big part of why I do. Surrounded by marketing online (this includes unboxing and “lineup” videos, where the emphasis is on the supplies instead of the process or method or art) - it’s inevitable we all want to try all the things. How could we not? We love planners, of course we do! Saying no is hard. I don’t judge anyone for going ahead and trying all the things. I have, too. But it didn’t make me happy. The new toys soon become old toys. My goal is to be a more thoughtful consumer going forward. It isn’t either/or: either we feel bad for planner hopping or we keep doing it. We can practice self-compassion, understanding why we do what we do, then thoughtfully asking whether we want to keep doing that. It’s likely different for everyone, which is why I put the disclaimer at the too of this comment that these are just my thoughts and feelings. But by having a discussion about them, we can learn from each other, right? We’re also part of a capitalist, marketing centric society that wants us to constantly buy stuff. I think that’s worth talking about, with empathy and with the recognition that we’re all individuals with different feelings, and all part of a community that accidentally encourages consumerism (I don’t feel like that’s a controversial take, but let me know if so). Also sorry for the essay, but this has been on my mind lately.

    • I absolutely agree with you. We should not be in pursuit of perfect and I do think we can be smarter consumers, and learn to love a system. My whole point is to stop apologizing. I think we will all find our way, and I hope that is quickly and with the minimal amount of money possible. But struggling or not having it all together is part of our messy human lives, and it’s okay! 2024 is going to be a low buy year for me, and although I’m a tad nervous about it, I’m looking forward to challenging myself to work within those bounds and not focus on adding to my hobby. Thanks for your thoughts!

    • This. These days I feel like if you have a simple system or use a no frills planner, you're the minority and almost not really planning. I have severe ADHD and my mind is constantly hopping already. The one thing that's constant in my life is my planning and I refuse to let my brain okay around with that. Believe me, every 2 weeks I'm like let's change it all up, but then the maximum I let myself do is brainstorm a while new system and let it sit a bit. I also have this rule that before buying anything new, I have to try that layout and size for at least a month. So I draw it up in the back of my planner and test it out. I'd be bankrupt multiple times over if I let my brain time my planning.

  • I personally don't mind when people planner hop because at the end of the day it is their money and their time spent. I just don't personally enjoy videos where people are buying 6+ planners at a time knowing that they will not use all those planners or that they cannot keep up with them. The videos usually come across very chaotic and I can literally feel their stress and it makes me stressed just watching it. I just hope that people can find what works for them without straying away from their goals, because these products as much as we love them are not cheap. And when we buy so many things that takes away from something else in our lives. Unless you just have a lot of discretionary funds. It creates anxiety that we don't need. There are so many other things to stress about. Rise in food costs, housing, etc. That when you think about it, planners should be the last thing we should be stressed about. But maybe that anxiety and need to control seeps into planning and wanting to control things that we have no control over. It is just food for thought for people who want to dip their toes into different things. Don't lose sight of what you need to be able to reach your goals.

    @ayanarandolph5778@ayanarandolph57785 ай бұрын
    • I feel like I was clear that there are real issues that some people have that make for more stress. Anxiety can make you second guess and question things that may not seem like a thing to others. This video was about not feeling bad for finding your way.

    • @@samplans I understand that. I wasn’t disagreeing. I was just saying what I saw from other videos. I don’t shame anyone for planner hopping. I’m hoping we all find what we like. I was just saying what I see was more of overconsumption in my opinion. Especially when I see people doing planner hauls. That’s all.

Aside from anxiety and depression, there are also a lot of people with autism in the planner community either diagnosed or self diagnosed where planning is a special interest. • I learned a long time ago that planner hopping is just a part of my ADHD, and I've come to accept that, even embrace it. I have several different types of planners--Happy Planner, travelers notebooks, spiral-bound, rings, journals--in many different sizes and styles (dot grid, square grid, lined, blank). 2024 is going to be a no-buy/low-buy year for me. I'm determined to use up my stash as much as possible before I buy anything new, including pens and markers, washi tape, and ESPECIALLY stickers! I took a hard look at how much of everything I actually have and realized I can planner hop to my heart's content and still not need anything new for probably the next few years. I wish everyone here the best of luck in the coming year, and I hope you'll do the same for me! 💖

    @mrandisg@mrandisg5 ай бұрын
    • Yes, much luck for you. It seems low or no buy is also in the works for many of us next year!

  • I agree. No one needs to apologize. And no viewer should criticize someone for switching up their planners. If you think about it, we all have various purses, shoes, shows we watch, books we read, projects we work on, skills we are learning, favorite coffee or candy at the moment, interesting topics we are researching. We switch up such things on a regular basis…and that’s life. If someone has a consumerism problem or issue, it’s up to them to come to that realization and do something about it. It’s not a viewer’s place to criticize or shame. I’m the type of ADD person that NEEDS change. And I do tend to go back to tried and true systems or items once I’ve gone exploring a little. I don’t buy very many expensive planners or covers or supplies; for the most part I “shop my stash”. Once the curiosity bug is satisfied, I can settle down-for a while. This topic reminds me of a situation several years ago where a woman told my husband that she had a problem with us having gone to the same general location for our vacations every year or two for a while. We did this because it was where I am from, where my family was, and was a beautiful, adventurous travel destination. We also had discounted access to a relative’s beach home. It was great to visit our favorite sites, discover new places, try new activities, make friends. Three of our adult children have now moved there, and love living there. I remember being bewildered that anyone could think they had a right to tell us where we should or should not go for our vacations. It’s kinda funny. And…no one has a right to tell a planner girl which planner she should be using. Please forgive me if my comment comes across as prickly. I do get a lil tired of folks commenting rudely on someone else’s video or post, or speak as if they have a right to judge someone’s planner choices. 🥴😬 TFS!! P.S. Aaand viewers don’t “have the right” to tell planner (or any) video creators how they should create their videos. If you don’t like something about the video, move on. It’s not for you. Dear me, I’m offending all sorts of people. 🥴😬😉🥸

  • Thanks for sharing, Sam! I have a total different perspective here - I am not into fashion or dressing up, but I enjoy watching other people putting on different outfits; I don’t have a lot of luxury bags, but I love seeing people switching between different ones to match them with the occasions; I do use multiple planners/journals but I stick with what I set up at the beginning of the year and carry on till the end. HOWEVER, I do enjoy and appreciate many content creators sharing different planners/systems throughout the year so I get to explore more ideas and thought processes. On a selfish note, I think there is no need for content creators to apologize. I thank you all for paying out of your own pocket and putting in your own time and effort to show the rest of us what the possibilities/limitations are with certain products/systems. I am serious! That’s the main reason I love to go through social media accounts and get inspired! …On another note tho, I do think sharing one’s planning system out in public does bring some more stress. Because there are audience and followers involved, it makes sense for many people to feel responsible of changing their ideas halfway. But just think about it this way, we change clothes and bags all the time, there are also people watching. Do we hurt anyone? Do we need to explain to anyone? Do we need to apologize to anyone?…No! So what about planner system that is so different?! I say let people do their own thing. Take what we can learn and get on with our own lives. 😂 …I appreciate you and every other content creators out there regardless of the planner hopping behavior, lol!

I totally agree, everybody I have spoken to has a different experience of the pandemic, it changed people and their attitudes. I enjoy changing my planners and Journals and will certainly not apologies. I am a great believer in 'Your planner, Your way', if it doesn't work for you, then change. • I don’t think that people should apologize for planner hopping, but I hope that people really think about *why* they’re planner hopping. Does their system really not work? Do they just want to use the latest and greatest thing their favorite planner on social media is doing? Is it retail therapy? 😂 I mostly stopped planner hopping because I was spending too much money on things that other people thought were great, and I just wanted to try it. That’s a me problem. It’s definitely fun to shake things up and experiment, but I hope people are really thinking about the reasons they’re doing it. I finally sat down and thought about why I was doing what I was doing, and came to terms with what really actually works for me, so now I’m less easily influenced by others. The consumerism of all the stickers and supplies and accessories is just too much for me. I recognize it’s also a hobby for some, and if it is, that’s great... Enjoy it, and don’t care about what anybody else thinks. 😂 thanks for the video!

  • I use whatever I want whenever I want to because I enjoy multiple things. Primarily, I love rings. But I’ll also whip out my Stalogy unapologetically and make a straight up to do list if the mood strikes. A few months ago I finally tried a Hobo Weeks, and though I liked it, I prefer the Standard TRC weekly+memo horizontal since I have more real estate. Honestly, I’m positive I can use anything to plan and it’ll be fine. I quit apologizing ages ago. If I lose followers, so be it. Before planner-land judgies, I’m gonna make sure the one who’s happy in whatever she’s using is me and only me.

I have so many planners for 2024 and I'm definitely not sorry. heck I know I will get more. The way I see it is .. Im paying for them not you so why do you care so much. Do what makes you happy and let the ones who don't like it stay mad.

  • Off topic but, I hope you solve an disagreement I am having with my daughter. Where do you put notes from a phone call, things you are thinking about.. house, finances, anything? I put in my planner with monthly and weekly…on daily pages, or bujo pages. Daughter says that’s not planning-it’s journal. The only reason this matters is does it go with planner or a separate book-journal?

    @ritawilson8015@ritawilson80156 ай бұрын
    • Depends. I keep them I my planner until the issue is resolved or the project is finished, and then I move them into a binder on my desk. It never fails if I don't carry everything with me I need the info because the company calls or I find a great deal on something we need. My journal stays by my bed it is something I do at the end of the day.

  • I think KZheadrs, in general, apologize profusely for having an OPINION, and they do it because of all the judgey know-it-all commenters. Why can't people just be nice? I'm sure they don't even realize how they are coming across, and I doubt they would say these things to your face if they met you in person. Personally, I enjoy seeing all different kinds of set-ups, whether I use them or not. I learn from everyone, even if I use a different system! Sometimes it's a type of pen or a sticker shop I didn't know existed. Sometimes it's a layout I want to copy. From what I can tell, the overwhelming majority of commenters in the planner/journaling community are kind and encouraging, but it's human nature to dwell on the one comment that is negative. You wouldn't have 13K subscribers if people didn't like you and relate to you!

    • Thank you! Sometimes the most rude comments stick with us the longest for sure. I usually say what I’m thinking, take a gulp and hit publish. But I share not only for myself, and sometimes wonder if someone doesn’t like me, why click on the video. I don’t want channels from people I don’t enjoy…maybe they are just that miserable.

  • I hop constantly because it seems like my needs change. My husband and I have several medical problems so it seems like i am never prepared for a doctors appointment. My problem is always the size. Half letter and personal wide are the two sizes i love. Half letter holds notes better but my personal wide fits in my bag. I am tired of carrying my big bag so my half-letter fits. Christmas is always bad time because i have to many things to balance and this year is worse i have 4 surgies scheduled, one every week for the next 4 weeks and i have had to stop some depression meds so i can have surgery.

  • The whole apologizing thing applies across youtube categories. I've watched tons of Keto vids in the past 3 years. All of the channels I watched consistently did Keto, lost weight, only to turn around just the last year or two and put at least 20 lbs back on. While still having their channel labeled as "Keto" when clearly they haven't been Keto (all kinds of ways of doing Keto) or slowed way down from what they were doing. Then the Keto Police chide them for not doing their personal interpretation of Keto so for a while they try apologizing. Same with other diet journey channels I've seen, same with a few of the gaming channels I've seen if they were previously focused on one or two games or genre then switch. Personally, I couldn't handle multiple planners because I would be forever forgetting what I had put in which one. But if I had the money to devote to it, I would straight up planner hop through any I could get my hands on because you don't know until you try. Your channel. Your hobby. Proceed and try to ignore jealous people who don't know how to handle their own issues:)

  • Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with planner hopping. I think some people take things too seriously. There are people who crave consistency and others who need variety... We are all different and that's ok. As long as it's not negatively affecting their lives I say so what do what you want just don't spend money you can't afford to. As for content creators I think they should do what they want. But I also think that they should be aware that when we find their channels it's probably because we found them using a certain product or system. If they change it's fine but be aware that they could lose followers because they change what they are doing. It sucks but that's how it is. That's part of the whole social media thing. At the end of the day I know I can just get a piece of paper and make a list and get things done but I want to have fun with it. That's what I think alot of people need to remember. Were all different and we all just want to have fun and appreciate all the organization and cute stuff out there ❤
