Finally a video that simply explains what the purpose of the different OSS mode settings are meant for. I am always amazed by the poor quality of the documentation. How difficult is it to put this in a manual. The Sony documentation in general really is crap. Like the mode switch 1 puts the mode switch into mode one. How ridiculous is that. Almost nowhere the documentations explains the purpose of a setting. This makes it very hard to get the max out of the many camera settings. But this really helped - THANKS
A great start to which should become a great series. Well done Mark and Heath.
Thanks guys. Just dropped my other gear and bought myself an a9. Oh, mate. Beautiful. And coupled with the 70-200 I'm set. Thanks for the tutorials.
really handy. nicely done gents.
Thanks, it's those little tips that help. More please.
Very well done! Thank you.
Thank you, finally understood the OSS modes. 👍
Really handy , really useful
Thanks for this. Re Setting AF range brackets, how many of us can reliably estimate 7m or 10m away? And mode settings should be soft selectable. As a bird shooter, my subjects will often change from needing #2 or #3 in the one 'session'.
Thank you
Really useful .. can you please show alpha info about alpha II
thanks guys!
thank you. what mode would you recommend when shooting a rocket launch with the camera rotated 90 deg?
thank you!
You recommended when shooting erratic subjects, like birds, you turn off steady shot on the lens if Mode three is not an option. The 100-400 is my go-to-lens for motocross. Would you suggest I do the same and turn steady shot off? I normally leave it in mode 1 unless working on panning shots, then go to mode 2. Thanks for the video.
I mostly shoot on a tripod, so i turn off steady shot. when turning off steady shot does that disable Modes 1,2 & 3 or should i still pick the correct mode? Your answers for Photography and filming please as I do both. Thanks
Thanks a lot
Im going to an airshow next week. What mode do you recommend for my Sony 200-600 lens ? Mode 2 for panning, or mode 3 because the planes go both sideways and up too ?
I'd also like to know this.
Maybe I missed it but what impact does it have if you use the incorrect mode?
when the sony 200-600 is on a tripod, should you turn off OSS? or what mode should it be on? panning with sun movement for solor eclipse (yes, i have a solar filter).
thank you guys. iam using sigma lens 150-600 for horses and camels races i used to use #2 but many of my photos not well focus even if i shot 1/1000 second , could be the reason is steady shot is on on my camera sony a7riii ?
Does this apply to shooting video as well as stills?
Which OSS setting is best for videoing flying birds, or just birds in general, with the FE 5.6-6.3 200-600mm G lens?
So on my 200-600 with BIF I’ve had it on mode 3 for erratic shooting, would I be better off?
Whatsettings would you use for short videos such as surf videos?
When shooting video on a tripod is it better to switch off OSS?
Can someone explain the 2nd switch?.. like as far as examples to move it?
Is there a tripod detection function, that turn the OSS off when sensors detect that the camera is on a tripod?
Great concise wee clip. Do I need to start using mode 2 when I'm shooting cars at the track then?
Mode 2 for panning - I often use shutter speeds slower than 1/500 second to create some movement blur behind my subject.
Just got my big fat Sony zoom lens and found this brief introduction very useful. Thank you very much.
Dear Mark, I have a problem with my a9ii shutter number display! Can you please help me? It shows a numbers not 1/8 1/200 1/400 !! Instead numbers 2123 ! How to get it back to normal on screen display?
Is it true that you should turn OSS off when using a tripod?
I see a large number of users of the 200-600mm lens are having focusing issues with the A7r4. Will Sony be addressing this issue
Although I'm not having the issue with my A7RIV and 200600G, I know a few folks who are having the issue with this combo. Unacceptable that Sony has not acknowledged or fixed the issue. Both the A7RIV and 200600 have been out long enough now that it should have been fixed. Sony what Happened to listening to your customers? We want to see action taken!!
@@njrtech I've heard that by switching to Mode 2 it has helped a lot. I do have the 200-600 but on the A9
how about the lack of quality according to the modes used ? I found 2 and 3 much worse in sharpness and details ...using 200-600 on A1 .
💓👍💓👍💓👍💓👍
What about the set button?
it's me or when i use mode 2, and worse in 3 ....photos are not sharp anymore...?? thanks !
does mode 1 consumes much more batter vs mode 2 or 3?
I shoot owls in flight and always wonder if I should be in mode 2 or should I turn off OSS? I am usually in mode 2 as they fly across the scene from and I am panning. I usually only get one or 2 critically sharp images if I’m lucky. I have my attacking settings I downloaded from mark. Any tips would be great! I am shooting with 100-400 and a7r4
Hi Heath and Mark, Thank you for a very clear discussion. For what its worth Wade, I definitely found that using the 200-600mm on mode 2 with stabiliser OFF gave me better results with my Sony A7Riv. I am mainly a bird photographer.
@@athenageorgiou If the stabiliser is set to off, it doesn't matter what mode you are in, 1, 2 or 3, you will get zero stabilisation effect.
It's like sport is only panning! Panning is such a small part. Too simplistic really.
My Sony 200-600 suddenly started having a jitter when AFing (any of the modes) … very unfortunate, steady shot is on .. other lenses are fine
