You know what amazes me? At 4:40-4:45, while everyone is dancing in the middle, you see Vince Fontaine enter from the side by doing FRONT FLIP, landing on knee, and then catching the microphone, all done in one shot. I never noticed till know and it made me realize how talented this entire cast was. (Btw, Vince’s actor, Edd Byrnes, was 46 when this movie came out)
That always stood out to me for decades like I was always fascinated by how clean that whole ending transition was
@@coolface5635 he stumbled and hesitated a bit, so i wouldn't call it clean, but it sure wasn't easy.
The greatest moment in movie history!
Oh Wow..I never noticed that either 😂
Pñ
Travolta absolutely shreds in this scene. Timeless classic!
Kxnxlx
The movie JT starred in before this was Saturday Night Fever, where he was taught those dance moves for that film by Denny Terrio. When this movie came out, it was no surprise that smashed the dance moves here in his next film. I was in high school when both films were released.
Verdade ❤
I concur
I was crying when danny and sandy entered
2:37 Cant get enough of Danny and Sandy coming in dancing along with the music. Olivia Newton John looks like shes just having a blast dancing with John Travolta as well.
They adored each other in real life.❤❤❤❤
Olivia was a pretty good dancer, as well as a good singer! She really showed off her talent in this movie! ong 5:07 ong
Kenickie is pure chaos in this scene
We love him regardless
Omg yes he is
he's so fun to watch.
He absolutely kills me lmao
Rip kenickie was awesome in this film
Jeff Conoway's performance as Kenickie in this movie is brilliant. He absolutely nailed hos role...
Did you know Jeff played Danny Zuco on Broadway?😂👍🏽
Nobody going to talk about how his boy set him up
Yeah, I never understood that bit? Are we meant to believe his pal got drunk and did him over effectively, lol..?
If you're talking about Sonny barging in and grabbing Sandy, I believe so. They were obviously shooting for Danny and Cha-Cha to bring it home, being that in the original, Danny goes to the dance with Cha-Cha, not Sandy.
@@Sal_Sal27 Most of the group, except for Frenchy, didn't exactly approve of Sandy, thinking she was too pure for Danny. Marty did start to come around a bit during the slumber party, though. And even Rizzo started to think a bit better of her near the end.
Cha Cha wanted the trophy for herself and she knew she couldn't win it without Danny. That's why she had Sonny grab Sandy away and she jumped in before Danny even realized what happened.
Yes! Men be jealous of other men getting a good woman. They definitely will sabotage. 🙄🙄
Olivia may not have been the greatest dancer ever, but she looked so adorable and happy while dancing 😍 I still can't believe she's gone. She'll live forever in our hearts 💙
i love her smiling while she dances, she sure is adorable
She more than made up for it with her voice.
She survived but lost which is unfair
Her smile is amazing
☺️they dance so well
Unironically one of the best staged sequences in cinema history. No notes. This is perfect.
Olivia's face is just so adorable when she dances. RIP!
4:40 - Holy crap, the way the actor nailed his flip and then caught the mic!
Francès Sgfrom ♥️♥️
My guess is that wasn't a live mic, but a styrofoam prop.
@@aliendroneservices6621 I'm sure you're right.
@@aliendroneservices6621 still though that flip was sic
@aliendroneservices6621 it was still one hell of a take. Everyone dancing towards the end of the song, then VV doing his flip, then the mic thrower throwing the mic to VV, then VV catching the mic. Who knows how many takes that took, assuming that it wasn't just one.
I know we're supposed to pull for Danny and Sandy, but can't get over Cha-Cha's incredible moves.
Cha-Cha owns the dance floor.
Cha-Cha is a goddess in motion. Masterfully done, Annette.❤❤❤❤
@@jones2277 super dancer.as fast as Jhon travolta.
That 59 year old in a highschool 😂😂😂😂
@@FaytLinegod RIP 😢💔
Cha Cha's face at 3:54......couldn't nobody tell her NOTHING!
Chachas dancing will never be forgotten to me. The way she swooped in like "Hol' up, I got better moves than her." Iconic.
@@Jackie-gh4kq And she was one of the sweetest people in real life, too. God Bless You, Annette Charles.
@@Jackie-gh4kq actually, Patricia Birch choreographed the movie. She'd then direct AND choreograph the sequel.
Cha cha is the best
Exactly, Sandy's steps were more innocent
@@romycake3995 I love that though. :D
Craterface and Rizzo were really getting down i love the energy they were feeling it
Right!!?? I LOVE their scene the most! 😂❤❤❤❤ her red and black dress was so Rizzo!!! 🔥
I religiously watched this as a kid and thought Travolta as Zuko was so cool. It's not until you get older that you appreciate how much of an amazing dancer he actually is
He was great like another dancer actor Michael DiLorenzo
I didn't have to get older to realize that. Before I ever knew who Michael Jackson was,I thought he was one of the best dancers on screen. Especially after watching Saturday Night Fever. When I watched Billie Jean for the first I knew someone else had taken over. As a kid in my country, there was always talk about who would win in a dance competition,John or Michael?
That end is insane. Everyone is dancing hard. Then Vince Fontaine with the handspring and the mic snatch…
I haven't watched this in years. Didn't realize how funny it was until now. Every moment is a different scene.
This is so fucking lit. John had so much star power in the 70s. Movies just don't have this kind of passion any longer.
I like John Travolta and his movies 🎬 🎞
This Film Was Great On So Many Levels! Filmed At Venice High School In Los Angeles,CA!
The way they came on the dance floor was one of the hottest scenes in movies HISTORY!
Will always be my favorite part in this scene. It was so cool.
Man!!! The where they lift the old lady 2:37!! Man I cry laughing 😂!! It was so funny!! Wawawa!!
Such an EPIC movie that just doesn’t get old!!! Olivia, John and the whole cast were amazing. Here in 1-3-23, who else is here?💜🎼🎼🎼🕺🏼💃🏼
Wedyuo🕺💃🎼🎼
Im here 3-15-23….. whenever u need a pick me up
I'm here!😌only here to watch Putzie really 🤣 he was always my favorite character and I could relate to him haha and I always get him on “which character are you from Grease?” quizzes and sometimes though I get Sandy and I'm not even angry cause she's another favorite of mine

1:54 THE ABSOLUTE ENERGY IN THIS PART! 🔥🔥🔥
They put their whole greasussy into this sequence! Every single cast member on point!
Let's hear it for the toilet paper! Lolll
I’m just now seeing this comment and am cackling 😂 greasussy???
It’s a stupid TikTok trend to insert the word pussy into everything
This was filmed at my high school gym back in 1978.. Huntington park high school ca. And Ruco graduated at bell high school, bell CA. Just 4 miles from Huntington park high school. Rip Ruco and Chacha.
As a kid I couldn’t appreciate the magic of this scene. Amazing dance moves! Cha cha gave NO Fs lol
My favorite part of the movie it's so entertaining and I wish dancing was still like this. Olivia was just such a sweet soft perfect soul for this
2:30 one of the dances of all time
the funniest part is most of these actors were in their mid 20s to 30s portraying high school seniors LOL
Francès Sgfrom
Stockard Channing (Rizzo) was the oldest at 34!
It’s satire
that's still the case. look at the cast of Euphoria.
@@jones2277exactly, adults showing the cringe of being a teen vs teens acting pretentious while being cringy
One of cinema's greatest moments right here
If you pay attention to the background, at the extras. You'll see the jock almost get into a fight defending the Bad Seed at Rydell High. You'll see Frenchy, Jan and some of the girls look confused as to why Danny all of sudden is dancing with Cha Cha. Some of the taller dancers in the front get a bit wild with their dances. And when Cha Cha has her skirt up, one of the guys really goes in for a better look. The guy carrying Vi, the assistant to Principal McGee, almost suffocates under her dress while carrying her. The director told the cast and extras to come up with their own story. As long as it didn't interfere with the big story. That's why at the end, some of the extras with bigger parts with no dialogue were seen walking hand in hand with their yearbooks at the end.
Very insightful analysis. I enjoy the entire dance scene: Hound Dog, Rock n Rock Roll is here to stay, Those Magic Changes, and then Hand Jive. Sha Na Na were so awesome. Everybody was.
I did love Sha-na-na! Bowser especially!
No one in has currently replicated Rizzo's red dress. IS BEAUTIFUL!... And... HER HEELS!! WOW!! LOVE IT!!
When John and Olivia come in….jesus. Goosebumps.
Travolta is flawless & Olivia was great & adorable but cha killed it. It's such a treat to see the only person that actually matches John in dancing. His dancing to stayin alive is the greatest but no partner to come close. Maybe b/c it's the classic moment where the other couple gets 2nd place & Tony realizes it & gives them the prize. If he had a better parter couldn't have that moment
Grease is the word my movie since 78's .
It’s not often you see a male dancer out-dance his female partner. In this case John out-dances two! Such a fun scene!💃🏻🕺💃🏻
Damn Travolta can dance. Scene never gets old
Travolta is an amazing dancer. Just stunningly good. He puts the work into those performances, too.
I never noticed until today that the audience was doing their dance with them. I've watched this movie so many times for almost 3 decades.
I knew there was a reason I saw this film 13 times in the Seekonk Massachusetts movie theater in 1978. Talent
lol! We sat through it 3 times in a row at the Capitol Theatre in Sacramento in 1978. After the third time, they came over and asked us to leave 😂 So I can relate…
I saw it 18 times during its run, mostly at the General Cinemas in Peabody and Saugus. I've never even come close to seeing a movie that many times since then.
One of the greatest scenes in cinematic history.
2:37 always made me LMAO 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love how a few seconds later she's at the side clapping on Sandy and Danny 😅
It's amazing how the choreography and the editing sequence of the music matches up so perfectly, even down to Danny and Sandy coming out of nowhere in the end to end quick Sax riff with Chacha on looking at them, up to no good. They nailed this. One of my favorite scenes
2:18-2:20 Eugene and the football dude 😂
Notice how they disappear in the next shot when kenicky slides in?
@@Michael-cz6obfootball dude getting into a fight with the girl who came up behind him man on the side 😂 Eugene prob got scared off by a tbird 💀
One of the best films from the 70s.
Travolta owns this scene 🕺💃
Travolta looks so good here, it’s almost like he’s mythical
Cha cha is a incredible dancer. I love her dress.❤
CHACHA SHIT
Cha-Cha may have been a pushy creep, but Annette Charles herself was pure class. And so was Olivia. God Bless them both.❤❤❤❤❤
RIP 😢💔
4:39 The best part of the video without a doubt, doing a somersault jump in the air and catching the microphone thrown at him without breaking his neck!! 😂
Grease, my favorite musical of all times ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Now this is 50s dancing. Learned a non 50 style dance to this song in my theater days.
Rest in peace Olivia. God bless everyone.
1.36…..that orange dress is just stunning. Looks so good on that dark haired lassie.
I just want y’all to recognize Vince Fontaine doing a full on FLIP to go into the cameras view and THEN catching the microphone! That was just amazing!
Grease - one of the all time classics!!! 🥇
I would like to dance at my wedding like in this scene 😅
Johnny can dance!
2:39 John Travolta and Olivia Newton John will always be my favorite movie couple
Olivia was deadly together with John Rest easy now, true Australian legend.
Watching this movie as a child gave me so much false expectations of what HS dances would be like.
No phone no social média just Fun 🎉😍😍😍😍😍
Looks like John Travolta was having some Saturday Night Fever 🪩 moments in this scene!
These ppls are something else watch crowd mama kill it!!😂🤣😍👏🏿
The cowboy in the back freaked me out as a kid 😂
🤠🤠🤠💀👻
Always a cougar on the hunt ! Haha😂
Dude did a front flip and catches the mic immediately after that!!!
2:19 Rest in Peace, Susan Buckner aka Patty Simcox (1952-2024)
everybody talks about Danny and Sandy but Rizzo was getting down😍😍
Rest in Peace Susan Buckner, loved her beautiful smile and positive energy in Grease 🙏💙
ONJ held her own dancing. I still love when Olivia danced with Gene Kelly in Xanadu!
When virtually every student in your high school is a professional dancer in their 30s.
If I were Danny when Sandy got dragged away from him like that I would've ran after her
why? he still got the girl
Simp.
I just love Rizzo and the other girls 😂
Edd byrnes' forward flip and catching the mic at the end is AWESOME!!!!
Holy shit, that really is impressive 😂
2:19 that lorenzo elamas. the dude from the tv show renegade. lolol
Yup.. That's him 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This scene here was filmed in my High School I went to Huntington Park High School that's the small gym! 😍🤩
Are you sure it says Rydell lol
@@lesh6172 this scene was filmed at Huntington Park High School small gym this film was in many different schools not just Rydell & my H.P. high school many more high schools were filmed as well so I'm NOT just sure I'm 100% Sure & Positive I KNOW PS: Get your facts straight
@@jennifermarlow. idk maybe but that scene is the small gym of Huntington Park High School I recognize my gym asap

How am I just discovering the actual lyrics now? I could have sworn it was 'I could barely walk when I moved to town, when I was three I used to fly' haha
Best box office dancing scene ever and ecer again
Rest in peace Olivia and other cast members we love you
I love this scene, so much going on. Looks like that had fun filming it.
Maravillosa película Dios te bendiga Olivia forever para siempre
So much goes on in this it's just magic, one of the greatest things ever xx
Its crazy how many people in this scene have since passed. RIP
Well, it has been 45 years.
Those two absolutely shred the life out of this scene! CLASSIC!
they were so perfectly cast for the roles in this movie.
Kenickie and Leo going at it was great 😂
After all these years it's still rockin ,cool stuff.😁
2:28 HOW LOW CAN YOU GO? How low can you go? how lo can u go?
This was just great this dance scene no phones everyone enjoying themselves without a care in the word
This is my favorite scene from the movie 1:58 gives me good vibes
Im old school and l love the hand jive so bloody cool its sad that music is not like it was way back in the day old school music was the best 😀
Genuinely one of the greatest sequences in movie history. So much great stuff, Travolta is is beyond amazing here but the cherry on top of this delicious cake.... that Vince Fontaine kart wheel at the end. Great stuff!
Why does Patty cry like a baby when Kenickie pulls her dress up 😂
0:59 Indeed they feel the music
I like to analyze this part of the movie to focus on the background what each actor was doing and where they were standing to be in the crowd of extras. I always notice that Patty was upset with her big float decoration messing up and was giving comfort by that guy. Meanwhile Vince is observing on the dance of each couples and the guys tell him to get lost. I like when Sonny walked by drinking some whisky And then you have Rizzo and her date who got into a scuffle with one of the T-Birds and Rizzo leaves Sandy left the same way that Rizzo did because Danny kept dancing with Cha Cha
Insanely good music, dancing, and movie making all in one. Will be classic forever.
Simplesmente inesquecível. Um dos maiores filmes musicais já produzidos. John Travolta e Olívia: dupla inesquecível.
Epic scene man. Im a. Mid 80's baby I was dancing too this in 1996 when I first saw this film legends❤
Olivia and John as well as ChaCha look like they were dancing on clouds. Their dancing was just so flawless and smooth you'd think they were sliding on glass...
I love Kenickies dance
Why was Kenicki always messing with that girl 😂😂
