The chickens running after you was the cutest thing. Good to see the white chicken out of the chicken coop and looking healthy. Love your future plans.
I was also happy to notice that the white 🐔 has overcome the dog-trauma. Fencing the area makes it safer, but still people should watch after their dogs, so that you don't have to make fences around your property, or part of it, to be keeping your lifestyle as you want. But better safe than sorry. We have to make fences so that dear don't eat the whole garden...but I would rather not have those ugly 1,7 meter fences to eat salad and berries by ourselves. Have a nice day!
The chickens were so polite when eating from the bowl near the outdoor kitchen. They took it in turns to eat. Wonderful manners!
Now I see where it got the term, "flapjack"! Reminded me of my camping days of yore. . .thanks!
Yeah!!!😅 more chickens….soon to be a family.
And an indoor shower. That’s got to be a highlight in your life 😂
that pancake flip was on point🔥
Really. Cool...right 🙃
came here to say the same thing!
Notice the break in the film? Wasn't his 1st flip 🙃
@@sherrynsnyder1583 Yes. Truth-teller, I did notice, and if you would like to be exact, it is @ 5:30. The point, however, is that it could be done. BTW how many times does it take you IF you have ever attempted...😊
Yes, it was spot on! It was fun! It’s those little things that add to the enjoyment of his videos. 😊
I’m in my late 60s. Moved this past fall, onto a mountain here in North Eastern Tennessee. (Raw Land) Sold everything to gain a freedom life style and to be off grid as much as possible. Martijn, You are such an inspiration! Love your life and all your hard work! For me, I do not have your abilities, yet you inspire so many of us who view your life. Thus, for me and my family, we press onward and thank you for sharing your life and surroundings. Blessings, Wayne
Best of luck! Enjoy the peaceful freedom 😊
Welcome to the Appalachians. 15 years ago I moved to a mountain in NW North Carolina, when I retired. You're going to love it here!
Sounds wonderful
Felicitaciones por su decisión; no se arrepentirá, encontrará lo que se merece. Gracias.
Best of luck in your adventure. I'm right behind you.
Drinking coffee with Martijn on a Sunday is one of life's pleasures.
It’s how I start every Sunday
Doing the same!
Yes indeed .
yeah I have one that doesn't include time for rude people@@hasala12345
YEP.
You have the most beautiful, respectful community here on KZhead. Love your videos and your viewers
Oh that is so lovely to say. After watching the video I tend to stick around and read every comment just to reaffirm and prolong the experience 😅 I like most comments just because i love my fellow witnesses 😂
I was just about to mention that! It’s nice to read them
Why did he build the kitchen upstairs?
Such a lovely comment. He receives what and who he is. Reflection
Shame the reserved and shy locals don't agree .it's bringing unwanted attention to this small mountain community...and thieves
It's an absolute pleasure watching you. Your skill, your taste, your outlook on life in general...it all brings me so much enjoyment, so thank you for sharing Martijn.
Well I have a procedure coming this Wednesday on my heart and I'm 89 in the states in Ohio in hoping everything's goes well so I can see all your improvements to your home and it's a home now and not just a project. You've done a fabulous job on the inside, the floor, cabinets the stairs and fire place. Your future plans are perfect and thank you for taking me along.I just love it!
Those heart guys know their stuff…so have no fears…peace be with you
Hope all goes well for you Gary, take care. Wishing you well...
All the best for Wednesday Gary and may you have a speedy recovery 🦘🇦🇺
Wishing you well, God bless you Gary.🙏
Hope all goes well. 🌠Wishing you all the best Gary 🌠
Only a real Dutchman can flip a pannenkoek with such skill ;D
YES !!! Sunday Morning! Grab a coffee and relax!!! Martijn's onnnnn 😇
Yes! We'll said, he does make our Sunday morning special.
Sunday night for me in Australia. In the morning I always look forward to around 9pm to watch him :)
Parabéns pelo armário da pia. Ficou lindo! Tenho 71 anos e mudei para o campo e também faço coisas assim ,porque gosto muito. Um grande abraço!
@@mabilesilveira2188, Do you live in Portugal or Brazil or?
I can almost feel the fire on my face
It must be surreal to have a not-so-chaotic life, inside a warm, cozy and beautiful home.
Pretty sure thats the ultimate End-Game for him. But he's endured quite a bit of chaos to get there! The man gave up his home in Amsterdam to live in a tent in the mountains, cooking out of doors, for 18 months, in the midst of a construction project. Its a labour of love, but he will have earned his ultimate Shangri-la
Not to mention camping through storms and snow in previous winters.
As long as your health holds out and you aren't injured in a remote location. The video makes it look easier than it is.
I benefit in many ways from watching your videos. There’s relaxation (oh, yes), satisfaction, contentment, and especially knowledge. I left all repairs of our house to my husband, but you have given me a peek into how and why things are done, which makes me appreciate him more. I learned a lot actually. Thanks.
@@williamfindspeople4341undoubtedly!!
Since Martijn began his extraordinary project, I have been following his very laborious weekly progress. Not only is he an excellent graphic designer but also a painter, I am continually impressed by his simultaneous craftsmanship/talent and his perseverance with his combined attention to detail. But that's not all... Outstanding camera angles in each of his videos always catchs my eye. It may only be at the third or fourth glance that the viewer becomes realistically aware of how much effort it has to take to get the many individual video scenes, with even more preparation required, into the box as a basis. Only then will enough images come together to “cut” his weekly one. And it is precisely this logically connected combination of the many video sequences that always fascinates me in each of Martijn's weekly videos. I find it difficult to resist the impression that a film team could hardly do this better. In short... no matter what Martijn does - he does it as a very gifted natural talent! That's why I'm sure that something extraordinarily great will be created there at Piermont. I wish Martijn all the best, including with regard to any official hurdles (approvals) that may still need to be overcome, as well as his perseverance and creativity. Above all, best health. Best regards Horst (D)
Another great episode - thank you ☺…and why am I so invested in a stranger’s chickens?! 😂 … seeing the white chicken’s feathers come in and them following down the hill just made me smile
SPLASHBACK suggestion … tempered glass … that way you keep the stone look.
I was thinking 🤔 of a large stone kinda like one of those on his roof for backslash w a coating on it 🤔 for easy cleaning. For a natural look .
Definitely glass backsplash! Couldn't believe he was covering that beautiful stone 😮 I told him off 😅
If I may just share a funny but ... vision - Martijn sitting back into that recliner chair closer than comfort to the stairwell behind him !!! Railing would be nice and prevent a serious headache 😁
Yes! I keep wanting to add a railing, but I am sure that is in the future plans. Love the new transformed doors on the kitchen cupboards.
Yes, is it the mom in me, perhaps? He backs up to view the cabinets from more of a distance, and I hold my breath... He slumps down into that rolling chair, and I hold my breath... I'll breathe more easily when a railing is in place! 😂
Almost as soon as he moved in, I've been anxious for that railing to go up!
Martin moves like a ninja and has spent a fair amount of time becoming very familiar with his space. It's the guests you should worry about.
I thought the same. A little scary
Love this cannel. Watching it since about 15 month now. Its a real KZhead Pearl. The Video creation skills are fantastic. The composing of the scenes, the nubmer of different camera angels. The lighting of the scenes. The drone parts. Must be a ton of raw Material that needs editing, cutting, colorgrading. Lots of work and even more dicipline to get us this weekly delight. Best for me the tranquility of each one. Love this ASMR style. none thats better out there. Just fantastic. So much appreciated that it is not messed up with advertising. Thanks so much.
What good therapy your videos are. Back in the 1970s we converted a couple of stone-built farm labourers' cottages in the North of Scotland to a single residence, so your videos bring back some good memories. Your skills are far beyond mine though! I am in my 70s, so I am very happy to be able do another project, albeit vicariously, through you. Thanks Martijn your building, art and design and videography skills are second to none. Every episode from you is a gem!
I hope you enjoyed your holiday, Martijn. I have been watching from day one, and I never thought we would be seeing all your finishing touches, there was so much construction and demolition, but here you are nearly finished the first one ..... amazing 👏 ✌️🇦🇺
I have also been on this road from the day one. I think this project has been going much faster than I thought it would be. But Martijn works so hard and had helpers and that was nice to see. Cabin is looking as nice as I thought it would be...but sooner. There was so many projects to be done before moving in..but I am glad he made it before winter. Storms seem to be so hard there every now and then, so living inside is so much safer. I thought though that the tent area will be for relatives to visit as long as the other cabin is under the work, but I guessed wrong. Let's keep enjoying the journey in Italy. Have a nice day!
Dear Martijn, i've been watching your channel since it came out. Thank you for your inner strength and power to make all your plans come true. Watching you gives me peace. Nice greetings from Styria, Austria
I always want these videos to go on longer and feel sad when they end. I love the plans and look forward to watching that all unfold.
watch the year in review videos. They are long and every time I watch them I always see something I missed during the long format versions.
It was very interesting the filming of the drive to the stone yard. We get a sense of the countryside and a feel for the size of the town near you. Love the aerial view of the switchbacks. Your kitchen has a quaint feel to it that I just love. You're definitely a gifted, talented nomad. Thanks for sharing it all.
These wicked stones who sit outside wall is a place for candles.
Love the videos, love the cabins. My advice would be to keep the deck. It might not have a clear purpose, but it's a lovely place to sit, camp, eat, exercise, ...
Plus it’s a work of art!
It wasn't council approved
Nice to see the chickens doing well .
Watching the precious chickens follow you like faithful little doggies, relieves me from my longtime illness. Thanks so much for the Sundays we anxiously await. You have a good heart, God gave you great talent
Chickens are endearing. My girls free range our 10 acres, but always run for handouts when they see me. Leave large delicious eggs for me during the week.
Galerae947 those are type eggs I buy. Free range. Sweet story. Thank you.
The primal urge to unplug and restore a cabin in the wilderness gets stronger every video
It's all I want to do
haha same i know it's going to happen
This is the way.
The only things stopping me are money and my daughter.
Would be my dream if I didn’t have my girlfriend and a baby on the way
that stone near the sink, sticking out from the wall--the PERFECT imPERFECTION
I also liked that.. unfortunate he decided for removing it
Oh my, the rain came! Hearing the sound of raindrops is so soothing to me. When you mentioned the winds, I instantly thought, I’m so glad Martijn will be in the safety of a stone home. I was delighted to see the stack of eggs produced from just two chickens. You keep working, and the beauty keeps unfolding. It’s always nice to see you dine. You take us along to enjoy the landscapes while eating. Thank you, Martijn for all your peaceful sharing. The music you choose to play during your videos completes satisfaction of watching your grand shows. God bless you! Love from Georgia USA 🇺🇸
Well said! I, too, like nature sounds.
@@R-Texas amen girl!
Martijn, I want to tell you that I will be eternally grateful that you are willing, each week, to share your special place with us. I think we all tuck the episode in a corner of our being for safe keeping. Wonderful efforts! I can see the lumber shelter being a covered outdoor picnic area one day when all the work is complete!
Is there anything you can’t not do? That pancake flip was legendary…
Everyone can do anything badly
Moving the workshop out of the 2nd cabin and into a log workshop is going to feel good. I look forward to 2025 and how the 2nd cabin is going to look. The greenhouse, workshop with retaining wall and driveway, fence for the chickens, tearing down the tent platform, finishing the floor in the lower floor of the 1st cabin with shower, finishing the utiliy room.... plus other projects like the chimney, landscape, foraging, walks on trails, clearing and cutting wood, cutting in a road to the workshop, and visits from tons of travelers, friends, and family.... 2024 is going to be a wonderful year Martijn. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Truly, thank you.
Its frightening how talented you are Martjin! Thanks for another great episode :)
I live in Alberta, Canada, so I have been to the Rocky Mountains many times. But I have to say the mountains there are just as beautiful and inspirational!
Morning Martijn! Good morning everyone! ☕️🍳🥞
Good morning, greg!
@@sydneyevans2637- Morning Sydney! Or, good afternoon/evening to our very international clan here.
I love this channel. So grateful to be able to watch and enjoy Martijns journey weekly. Truly an amazing experience
The kitchen is coming along nicely. I'm happy to see the white chicken out and about with new tail feathers.
And laying eggs again!
Hi. Blessings from Chile. Now that you came back... Could you bring me 10 seconds video of your dark sky in a starry starry night please? ❤😊
Consider a greenhouse built into the slope so that only the south wall and roof slope are exposed to the cold. In the winter the Sun will be low in the south. Do a search on pit greenhouses.
Consult Johannes about this idea. He’s done something similar.
his cabin is on the north side of the hill
I think this property is on the north side of the mountain.
Johannes and Martijn are on OPPOSITE sides of the mountain .
Ok, do a search on burrowing through mountain and building pit greenhouse on other side. Good job everyone we have come up with a solution.
Cool plans for 2024, thanks for taking us along
I wait for you every Sunday and it's always nice and I can hardly wait for the next episode. You experience the little big things in life. Reduced to the maximum. Thank you for letting me take part in these hours and days. I have been very ill for several years. I can no longer travel and can hardly leave the house. You, dear Martin, give me a little more scope for experiences. I can see the beautiful nature and your work there through your eyes. It is simply beautiful. The loneliness, nature, your chickens, your neighbor and the great love for everything. Thank you for every beautiful minute! Greetings from Berlin😃
I have only discover this channel in the past month. I made a similar experience in the 90ies and lived it for 8 year but on the Apennines mountain just as cold but sunnier. I would do it again and this time I would plan it last time was an implosive move and still the experience was awesome.
Suzuki should sponsor your videos! Great to see you again, it’s always heartening to see progress. Keep it up! 👍🏻
😂 the little car that could!
Dulux paint company should sponsor the channel, because watching paint dry is more interesting than a Dutchman making money in a traditional valley where the poor locals don't need the attention..or thieves .
The high point of my Sunday is having you back, living and creating the most beautiful life in the stunning cabin you have brought back to life. Thank you for sharing all your new plans and, of course, the chickens! 💙🌀🌎 🐓🐓
The planned workshop area looks absolutely perfect and very fitting!
It feels like home..... in a short span of time since you moved in you have already managed to create that homey atmosphere. It's good to have a plan but I like to savor the moment because each episode is unique and every week has a different story to tell. For me, this is the most relaxing episode I've watched. Thanks for sharing.
It surely is fun to take a drive to the supply yard and see the local area.
Your plans sound fun and productive! Good to have a lighter load this year, and that was a Masterful flip of the pancake! Thank you so much for sharing Martijn! 🙏🏡
It is all looking amazing. Love the plans.. I was making chicken stock in the kitchen (sorry girls), and heard 'and this is for sale' and rushed to rewind.. phew.. a painting. Thanks for the vlog, as always a joy to look forward to watching. Now addicted to your neighbours vlog Donjojohannes ' one year in the life of a part time hermit'. Calm in the midst of my chaotic life.
We’ve binge watched the entire series through to the last post twice and are well into third time. So calming so inspiring. but I cry every time I watch you chisel off and destroy your perfect little stone house by destroying that precious little stone shelf that some ancient stone building farmer put by the door for his beloved as a gift of thoughtfulness. then I cry harder when I watch you tile that area of the kitchen. For all my tears still love your work (and the chickens!) We all make heartbreaking mistakes. We have all disrespected history at some time.
Amazing progress. Looks great. Chickens have recovered and look happy 😃
It’s a good thing your videos are not 5-6 hrs long because, I would watch it all Sunday 😅😅. It would be nice to have a live outdoor cam. Your projects are always great
Exciting plans! Looking forward to seeing it all. The kitchen looks great. Love the happy chickens😊
wow! I hadn't realised that your road was such a challenge, especially at this time of the year!!
Yes, I wondered when that pallet of stone was placed in the trailer, how that would actually make it up the hill! You heard Martijn chuckle when he made it!
Hey Martijn, I'm sorry but 36 mins is just not long enough for my weekly destress with you lol. The kitchen is coming along beautifully. The chickies look so relaxed again thank goodness. I cant wit to watch you build the workshop etc. You truly have an amazing place to put down roots.
I second this! Hahaha, could watch a two hour special every week.
I agree, it was much to short this week.
I will love to see him with a woman a wife and kids it will make it more enjoyable ❤
Excellent camera work as always Martijn and your choice of sound accompaniment brings about an atmospheric feeling of being on the the mountain with you. Full marks 😎
Your plans are good growing food etc and making a place to unload materials is essential. We are approaching the time of year where you can tap birch sap to drink for health improvement and you have lots of silver birch on your property. Just a thought, great video
You sure make us jealous but you work so dam hard at everything you do..hats off to you Martijn
As always, one of the joys of my week. The back shot of you looking out @ 35.45 is fantastic. The match of tone, composition, mood - excellent works. PS ; you can use the eggs to supercharge your seedlings / plantings. Plants love eggs as a kickstart.
The stone sticking out would be a good place for salt & pepper which most likely will be used daily.
Thanks for taking us along to the Stonemason's yard. We never cease to be amazed at the gutsy little Suzuki that takes everything you throw at it. Again patient, careful work!
Good to see your plans for this year and next. It's all coming together nicely now and your kitchen cupboards and splashback look amazing. Looking forward to next week's video xx
Your art work is progressing beautifully, Mr. Doolaard. I especially like the black and white and the texture you have created. The lamplight on the stone wall highlights it so well. You appear to be well rested and more relaxed with a lot of the hard heavy work done. I'm looking forward to seeing the process of the stone flooring if you video that. Have a great evening!
I keep hoping hoping he will have prints created of his artwork; in that way he could benefit significantly from the sale of the original but those of us with fewer resources could have a bit of Martijn's beauty on our walls, too!
Cette cuisine a de la "gueule" BRAVO une reprise réussie
I’m very impressed by your artistic talent! It extends into your building designs. Thanks for sharing your future plans.
Привет. Аутентично, атмосферно, умиротворённо, спокойно, приятно... Благодарю. Пусть все ваши планы в этом году свершатся.
Hi Martijn, I'm a new subscriber and gradually working my way through your awesome videos ... magic scenery! I lived off-grid for a few years and life would have been much easier if I'd had even a fraction of your skills or your tools ... kudos
Always thought your platform was in an ideal position to convert into a gazebo style conservatory/ come green house in timer or stone half walls with big glass all the way around. But whatever you do, I'm sure it will be beautiful.
Loving the drawings Martjin. The rustic shed looks great. Exciting future for us all to look forward to....including you too😂. I'll probably cry when the tent deck is removed...that was amazing to watch u build. 😢 love from Qld
Honestly looking for the location based on your videos was one of the most enjoyable geoguessers I ever did.
That was an interesting drive up the hill with nearly a ton of stone on the trailer. Those little Suzukis are under-rated! I know you probably already have, but Johannes seems to be the man for greenhouse advice - both building and growing. Cheers.
Johannes greenhouse and gardens are very impressive. It takes time to reach a stage of beauty and success that is abundant in his gardens. I figure he is three to five years in.
Yes, but Johannes also lives on the sunny side of the mountain..
Excellent pancake flipping Martijn.😌❤️👏👏
Your channel makes me happy. Looking forward to next Sunday! ❤
Because of the storms, you could bulid a small leaning wind deflecting wall structure, in sections lik a trellis, around the greenhouse were the wind hits the strongest. That way you will have something to grow stuff on at the same time protect the greenhouse without it looking ugly.
So glad you changed your mind about that jutting stone in the kitchen. Everything looks so beautiful.
Personally I prefer looking at the beautiful stonework. Maybe get a couple pieces of plexiglass to put up while cooking. Easy to clean and store away.
I have to say I was a little disappointed to see the stone covered up & white tile used. I was expecting the backsplash to be glass. Easy to wipe down & still be able to see the beautiful stone. The white tile just really brings the look of the kitchen down.
I'm not glad I hate that he chiseld it off! That was a neat feature and I really liked it. It feels like he defaced a beautiful piece of art!
@@noneofbizorjuliejt6466 When he removed that stone I did cry out ‘ no!’ Gutted.
Good morning my friend
Thanks for that little slice of peace and creative inspiration.
The photos for that workshop and wood storage looks awesome. I can't wait to see you build that. Also, I think Johannes would probably love some organic, free range eggs from his good neighbor haha
Nice works, looks promising...say hello to your little angels !...
Cabin interior coming along beautifully. Very happy to see you inside warm and comfortable this winter, with less struggle to survive and more time to create, work and enjoy. Love the plans. Look forward to watching them come to be. Thanks for sharing.
Your pancake flipping technique is like everything else you do, perfect and precise 😂
Impressive flip with the pannenkoek, Martijn.
So pure, so grounded, so cozy...thank you for sharing. 🤗
Thank you for sharing this wonderful life you lead…and including us in what you are creating there. I’m always disappointed when the video ends, but knowing that there will be a continuation due to your gracious hospitality.
It's been awhile since I built anything. I had some stick lumber taking up space, and one sheet of 3/4 inch 4x8 (48 x 96 inch) plywood, and a need to get my belongings up off of the floor. Building a cabinet reminded me of all the things you need to take into account during construction, not the least of which is conforming your work to the surroundings and materials. There is a lot of thought, hesitation, and cross-checking involved, before you ever get around to cutting a board or chiseling a stone. The end result, if it doesn't fall over immediately, is truly gratifying. Martijn does this meditation every day. My hat's off to you sir!
I have been following your videos for the last 3 years and I am sure that a fortunate family would love and appreciate to be able to set a bell tent to camp in style In the platform you have builded so beautifully for your own tent. So that you don't need to dismantle it. 😊
Beautiful professional sketches. Your kitchen, very nice. Even the view is still winter like, it’s great to see especially the beautiful clouds, take extra care. Thanks for sharing your video.
It's so nice to get an overview of what's to come in 2024. We are all looking forward to watching your work and projects. Many thanks and good luck for the year.
May I suggest that you make a wooden board that fits snuggly in your kitchen sink, this way giving you more counter space. Making it a cutting board would be anotoher good idea.
Looking forward to seeing your new projects Onward and Upward. The attention to detail 💋The chickens love you that’s why so many eggs 😊
Here we go. Going for a walk first but watch when i get back. Inspired to hear about plans
Your artistic gift is so beautiful. I would love to see a drawing of the chickens in the forefront with cabins and mountains with blue sky as backdrop. 🥰 You are incredible with all that you accomplish!
It is so wonderful to see your projects and progress. Thank you for alerting us to Father Johannes chanel. Gardening, philosophy and humor in a thought inspiring mix. You two are special.
While I was able to survive during your winter break on the three hour compendium video you did of the second year, it is so good to have you back with new journeys on a regular basis. I believe I discovered you about a year and a half ago, and since then you have become a near-sacred part of my early Sunday evenings here in Southern California. May all good spirits protect you, may you continue to thrive and take us along for the ride. Till next Sunday ...
Watching your videos is one of my Sunday routines. They are very calming and motivating. Thank you for your work.
I'm getting my Sunday dose of serenity. Your crepe skills are amazing. The kitchen is shaping up very nicely. I can't wait to see your summer plans come to fruition. Have a wonderful week.
I love the pace you give to your videos, the music, and the landscape shots. It is so relaxing! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 You homestead is amazing!!!
I can't help watching and admire what you have achieved and are achieving! There is next to nothing that I can tell you that you don't know better, but just in case i thought I'd mention a couple of things. Regarding the dog/chicken issue: I used to have wild animals damaging parts of my garden. I lived on the edge of some woods and they wandered in at night. I was talking to a manager of a wildlife estate and gardens and he said that if I spread male urine (male has to be of child bearing age) where they are coming in, that will stop them. And it worked. A few years later I'd moved to a wooden lodge in the countryside and had a workshop along a small track. A dog was fouling on the track to and from the workshop, so I tried the urine trick again and it worked. I just thought it might help keep the dogs/foxes away from your chickens. I know you will be aware of the routes they take. The other thing was re the green house. A method I've seen work very well in colder climates is to dig about 250cm down for the floor of the greenhouse and also use a solid wall on the north. You don't get any extra growth once the sun has passed over and you get a mass that retains heat as well as the floor being below the frost line. I've seen very good year round yields from greenhouses like this and they are also much stronger when the storms hit. Anyhow, I hope this give you some ideas. Good luck in everything you do.
Hello. I like your format and I think your videography has very much improved! Much more interesting to watch and the flow is like a journal. I like that I can watch you doing various things and that you show the results of your work. Love the drone shots and the narrative of your future plans. Great job!
As a professional filmaker I’m sure Martin will appreciate your comment …
Feels like you are properly back now.
Martijn, I watch your videos every week and Man, do I envy you.. I miss Italia so much--- I was there from 1976-1979 in the Air Force....
I like the way you give yourself walking breaks and holydays. Don't forget your painting and sketchings as a distraction from diy and editing , all very hard work which you diligently pursue to our delight ! Good change of mind for splash back 👍!
