  • The chickens running after you was the cutest thing. Good to see the white chicken out of the chicken coop and looking healthy. Love your future plans.

    • I was also happy to notice that the white 🐔 has overcome the dog-trauma. Fencing the area makes it safer, but still people should watch after their dogs, so that you don't have to make fences around your property, or part of it, to be keeping your lifestyle as you want. But better safe than sorry. We have to make fences so that dear don't eat the whole garden...but I would rather not have those ugly 1,7 meter fences to eat salad and berries by ourselves. Have a nice day!

Martijn, You are such an inspiration! Love your life and all your hard work! For me, I do not have your abilities, yet you inspire so many of us who view your life. Thus, for me and my family, we press onward and thank you for sharing your life and surroundings. Blessings, Wayne

  • Since Martijn began his extraordinary project, I have been following his very laborious weekly progress. Not only is he an excellent graphic designer but also a painter, I am continually impressed by his simultaneous craftsmanship/talent and his perseverance with his combined attention to detail. But that's not all... Outstanding camera angles in each of his videos always catchs my eye. It may only be at the third or fourth glance that the viewer becomes realistically aware of how much effort it has to take to get the many individual video scenes, with even more preparation required, into the box as a basis. Only then will enough images come together to “cut” his weekly one. And it is precisely this logically connected combination of the many video sequences that always fascinates me in each of Martijn's weekly videos. I find it difficult to resist the impression that a film team could hardly do this better. In short... no matter what Martijn does - he does it as a very gifted natural talent! That's why I'm sure that something extraordinarily great will be created there at Piermont. I wish Martijn all the best, including with regard to any official hurdles (approvals) that may still need to be overcome, as well as his perseverance and creativity. Above all, best health. Best regards Horst (D)

The lighting of the scenes. The drone parts. Must be a ton of raw Material that needs editing, cutting, colorgrading. Lots of work and even more dicipline to get us this weekly delight. Best for me the tranquility of each one. Love this ASMR style. none thats better out there. Just fantastic. So much appreciated that it is not messed up with advertising. Thanks so much.

  • What good therapy your videos are. Back in the 1970s we converted a couple of stone-built farm labourers' cottages in the North of Scotland to a single residence, so your videos bring back some good memories. Your skills are far beyond mine though! I am in my 70s, so I am very happy to be able do another project, albeit vicariously, through you. Thanks Martijn your building, art and design and videography skills are second to none. Every episode from you is a gem!

    • I have also been on this road from the day one. I think this project has been going much faster than I thought it would be. But Martijn works so hard and had helpers and that was nice to see. Cabin is looking as nice as I thought it would be...but sooner. There was so many projects to be done before moving in..but I am glad he made it before winter. Storms seem to be so hard there every now and then, so living inside is so much safer. I thought though that the tent area will be for relatives to visit as long as the other cabin is under the work, but I guessed wrong. Let's keep enjoying the journey in Italy. Have a nice day!

So calming so inspiring. but I cry every time I watch you chisel off and destroy your perfect little stone house by destroying that precious little stone shelf that some ancient stone building farmer put by the door for his beloved as a gift of thoughtfulness. then I cry harder when I watch you tile that area of the kitchen. For all my tears still love your work (and the chickens!) We all make heartbreaking mistakes. We have all disrespected history at some time.

  • Because of the storms, you could bulid a small leaning wind deflecting wall structure, in sections lik a trellis, around the greenhouse were the wind hits the strongest. That way you will have something to grow stuff on at the same time protect the greenhouse without it looking ugly.

  • It's been awhile since I built anything. I had some stick lumber taking up space, and one sheet of 3/4 inch 4x8 (48 x 96 inch) plywood, and a need to get my belongings up off of the floor. Building a cabinet reminded me of all the things you need to take into account during construction, not the least of which is conforming your work to the surroundings and materials. There is a lot of thought, hesitation, and cross-checking involved, before you ever get around to cutting a board or chiseling a stone. The end result, if it doesn't fall over immediately, is truly gratifying. Martijn does this meditation every day. My hat's off to you sir!

  • I can't help watching and admire what you have achieved and are achieving! There is next to nothing that I can tell you that you don't know better, but just in case i thought I'd mention a couple of things. Regarding the dog/chicken issue: I used to have wild animals damaging parts of my garden. I lived on the edge of some woods and they wandered in at night. I was talking to a manager of a wildlife estate and gardens and he said that if I spread male urine (male has to be of child bearing age) where they are coming in, that will stop them. And it worked. A few years later I'd moved to a wooden lodge in the countryside and had a workshop along a small track. A dog was fouling on the track to and from the workshop, so I tried the urine trick again and it worked. I just thought it might help keep the dogs/foxes away from your chickens. I know you will be aware of the routes they take. The other thing was re the green house. A method I've seen work very well in colder climates is to dig about 250cm down for the floor of the greenhouse and also use a solid wall on the north. You don't get any extra growth once the sun has passed over and you get a mass that retains heat as well as the floor being below the frost line. I've seen very good year round yields from greenhouses like this and they are also much stronger when the storms hit. Anyhow, I hope this give you some ideas. Good luck in everything you do.
