It's the second Sunday in the month so I'm visiting Gran Balon, a flea market in Turin. Back at the cabins I continue with the kitchen. After 2,5 years the trusted Suzuki is making place for a new car.

40:18 Goodbye, Jimny
I had a friend who rented the cottage at the end of my property - a retired Priest. He used to carry two boiled eggs with him at all times. We'd often go walking together for hours, discussing everything under the Sun during those trips. Many times I'd laugh to see him suddenly pull a boiled egg from his pocket and munch down... with a sprinkle of Salt from a small container he also carried. He was a fascinating man who was a font of wisdom for me during a time when I most needed it. He passed away this morning, as I sat by his bed. His last words to me were 'Thank You'. I don't know why he was thanking me - I always seemed to get more from our friendship then he did - but I'm grateful that I was there with him at the end. I know this comment has nothing to do with your excellent content, Martijn and it's just coincidental that his name was James (Jimmy to his friends) but I thought I'd share a moment of our friendship with the world.
How precious! Sorry for your loss. Thankyou for sharing! Warm Regards from Aus. 💚
Sorry for the loss of your friend.
I’m sorry for the loss of a good friend. Maybe he was thanking you for staying with him while he died. I sat with my sister last month as she took her last breath. She also said Thank you.
@Bob.Jenkins Thank you for sharing. What a wonderful friendship. It will last beyond death. 💖 All of it has to do with this content. Johannes lives in the neighborhood. Martijn carries around eggs - not boiled - in his pockets without breaking them. It makes me smile every time he does. 🙃
So touching & beautiful … there is so much love in it 🫶… thanks for sharing it with this lovely community ♥️
anyone else wait all week for this?? I get to Saturday morning and know that the weekend is going to end well no matter what. Thank goodness for Martijn and his craft.
I certainly look forward to Martian’s posting !
Yes I do, I just love his work! He and “Roaming Wild Rosie” are my favorite KZhead channels.
Yup! I start with Martijn every Sunday morning. I have several rennovators I look in on, but I absolutely have to start with Martijn!
I wish I hadn't caught up so quickly watching the other postings. It's difficult waiting for Sundays to arrive now.
Pretty much...one of the FEW decent and wholesome things on any streaming/video share service...or even TV to watch.
I never thought I would cry over a farewell montage of a car.
same here!
same here
I’m sure Martian had in his heart “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
I do have the next episode on my mind during the week. The tranquility and peacefulness soothes and inspires me.
You took the words right out of my mouth seriously ❤
Hi Martijn. I’ve watched you make bread over the fire and in your oven and thought if he can do it, I can do it. So, I dug out my parents Dutch oven and did what you did and made my first homemade bread. I’m a 68 year old women. Thanks Martijn. You’re never too old to learn something new. Love your videos
I have made standard homemade bread for years, and after looking at making focaccia bread, it's far easier. I added salt before baking, put bits of onion slices, a bit of grated cheese and it was delicious. I still wonder why I hadn't learned that before. Enjoy that marvelous aroma of freshly baked bread 🍞.
You inspire me, I've yet to dare and I'd dearly love to make a focaccia.
I've made focaccia several times with fresh rosemary or a tomato and garlic sauce. Sea salt adds just the right touch before baking. I make it on a half sheet cake pan, cut it into portions and store some in the freezer. It takes just putting it on a warm pan with olive oil to heat for a meal. Great for any time of the day and as an addition or a main in any meal. I love it because I can dress it up as pizza without the expense or the calories.
@@anaderol5408focaccia is easier than it looks. It’s time consuming, for sure, but easy nonetheless. And so gratifying especially eating it warm.
I, too, am drawn to make this bread in its many creative forms. A worthy adventure of my time. 👍🏼💙🌀🌎 Thanks!!
I love that the white chicken has got her tail feathers and her confidence back 🙏
What happened to the rest of the chickens?
@@cog1841 A neighbor's dog attacked it when they were talking to Martijn. 🥺😢
One died of natural causes, the second in a dog attack that the white chicken survived.@@cog1841
He originally had four chickens. The other one got sick and died before the dog attack.
@cog1841 the grey chicken died a while after he got all 4 of them. She ate something that wasn't safe. The black chicken was killed in the dog attack, the same dog went after the white chicken and just got her tail feathers.
I love Marteen's way of being so much... so elegant, discreet and focused on what he wants... so calm and sensitive. I've been waiting all week waiting for another episode and I want it to never end so we can spend more time in your company. We love you, Marteen!
Whos marteen? Martijn ;)
@SupermotoCentral it's the phonetic pronuciation...😊
No, it's not.
It doesn't matter. We know who she means.@@joseevaniersel7280
@@lucymorgan8859 no its just wrong.🤣
Respect for the Jimny is right, the little car has been a legend, so tough and reliable 👍
The Jimny was like a character of its own: Martijn, the chickens, and the Jimny all up in the mountains together. What a brilliant machine it was, hope its next owner appreciates it as much as you have! And congratulations on your 100th episode, Martijn! Here's to the next 100 😀
A jimny is so underrated. The biggest contributor so far to the project.
Yes, they're great. You can get parabolic springs to get rid of the harsh-ish ride. Easy to work on, the older ones at least. The new version is ridiculously expensive, but I'm hoping they will eventually be reasonable, used.
Sometimes, your car truly is a friend. Love watching this new phase of the build. Congratulations on the new car and continued success.
A jimny is the best awd he could get for his region. Low turning circle, excellent performance and low weight
silly me, I didn't know his name was Jimmy. I always called her Suzy
😅👍well done Jimny🎉 Only 2 chickens left😮 Lovely to see you putting together the final touches....😊
First time I ever got emotional over a car and it isn't even mine. What a ride!
I know this comment will probably never be seen in this huge stack, but watching these videos helped me stay motivated through the two years it took to get to my land and start building. Found your work at meeting the surveyor and lunch with a priest, man having your videos on in the background while I drew blueprints and shuffled paperwork was such an inspiration. Thanks for the great story, Looking forward to the rest.
It stood out to me So, you never know....
Best of luck to you with your land!!! My son has been wanting to do the same- I am so hopeful it will work out for him someday!!!
thanks! @@krissbrown3241
Best of luck on your adventure
Keep going! Good luck
As an american, I am deeply jealous of the small, capable cars that you have in the European market. Why everyone here needs a truck is beyond me. I would love to have a Jimmy.
And they aren't even real trucks with 8' beds to hold a lot of materials or construction items. They have half a bed & an empty backseat most of the time anyway. And you can't see over the front of them. Can hardly find a good, solid, older truck anymore either. Mine's a 2005 & I'll be running that workhorse into the ground. I own the truck since the hubby has the reliable car for work commutes. It just makes sense. It will likely be my one & only truck as we have most of the homestead infrastructure put in & don't need to renovate much more so won't have much need for a big truck bed.
The Jimny proves that heroes can come in little packages!
True, but the Pajero is much better equipped for the conditions it has to perform in.
@@janpcstoo soon and much disrespect
Why am I crying... over the Jimny?! I guess it was all those flashbacks at the end. The car is like a very important character in the story now signing off. I've been following you every week since 2021 and remember the first drives up to the cabins, with all kinds of stuff. Countless times I've thought either you were extremely brave or completely nuts, driving up those mountain roads in all kinds of seasons, including deep snow. Hats off to both you and the Jimny!
Why not cry...the chicken video alerted me that I am emotionally attached....
You always use Only words of Respect, and Positive, that's why so many people love your channel, that and your hard work and inspiration, Martijn. That Focassia looks Delicious,
I had 100 Monday mornings in NewZealand with Martijn😊😊
Here I am being all weepy about a little car on the other side of the world. You did good Jimny, you did good 🫡
I know!!! But its Jimmy....
Me too 😢
I feel so lucky to be here with the rest of you to watch Martijn's beautiful, breathtaking weekly videos, his projects and progress.
My grandfather was born and raised in Torino. Thanks for sharing the market scenes.
That was a golden jimny montage! the amount of times my partner and I have laughed and said "Jimny Power!" watching your videos.
Congrats on episode nr 100 ! This has become my favorite KZhead channel. Thank you for taking us on this adventure and for all the time you have spend filming and editing these videos. Hoping for many, many, many more to follow..
I rarely comment on youtube, but with your videos I can't help myself. Your approach to life & work speaks directly to me and thousands (millions?) of other people. Thanks again for sharing your time with us. Cheers and love.
Well said.
@@24JJ821Oh, and AMEN!!!
100 episodes - 100 enjoyable visits with you. Thank you, Martijn!😍🇨🇦
I’m gonna miss that iconic little car, what a hard worker that Jimny was. It will be strange without it. Good little car, God speed to you Suzuki.
It seems that Johannes prayers over Jimny worked well! Respect to that little work horse.
Martijn contratulations on your 100 th episode . You have created my most favorite program on KZhead. To spend an hour watching on a sunday evening your weeks progress is perfect completes my week. Thank you . Heres to the next 100 episodes.
Smiled all the way through the Jimmy footage. Still am. Hand over heart for Jimmy! 🌻Laura
There is sooooo much to love, admire and be inspired by in all your videos. Somehow today, hearing the crunch of the first bite of focaccia made me think, “is there anything you can’t do?” And I realized that we all can do so much more than we give ourselves credit for, if only we try. Because little comes without work and learning comes with making mistakes. Thank you, Martijn for reminding us every week we CAN DO whatever we set our minds to do. Stay safe. Cheers
40:05 - "But Jimny, only words of respect. Good memories!" 🥲 Well, that sums it all up beautifully. The machine (if I dare say so) has served its master well. Way to commemorate the centurion episode, Martijn!
Yes, and good footage of Jim in action. Good memories.
Agreed
How fun way to "say goodbye" for a car. I was almost giggling to ending. I love that kind of good approach to life. And poor Johannes...such a news. Hopefully that diesel-engine doesn't let down after rain and then -grades. It is willing to do so sometimes here in Finland. Gasoline cars don't mind so much.
@@Scotty3146 Not Jim - Jimny!
Goodbye Jimmy😁😚🇳🇴
This channel is going from good to great. Everyone is different but the slow pace, the storytelling is perfect: I would say this is up there among the very best channels on youtube.
Totally agree
Absolutely the best channel on You Tube
I, 77 years (+) vintaged (partly stroked) oriental man, find your episodes (Martijn Doolaard & Bartholome) on KZhead most interesting, good story telling, educational, captivating, well presented & edited unlike some with a touch of pleading for sponsorship + donations, even for someone not of similar discipline. I look forward to every week. Thank you for bightening up my days. Congratulations & may you both achieve your goals. Cheers!
Love that you go to the market looking for 2 things that won,t fit in the car but come home with something that fits in the palm of your hand, that’s what makes me appreciate what you do .
I don't comment that often at all but this to me was another one of those very outstanding videos Mr. Doolaard. I have seen in so many ways in this one how your patience, hard work, and sheer persistence over the years have so pleasantly paid off. So many blessings in this one...congrats on your lovely kitchen, exquisite fire place to dine in front of, new car and so much more. Ever so impressed by your meticulous attention to detail and you say you are not a professional??!! You are an inspiration!
Sometimes the greatest journeys are found in the simple daily goings-about of living...the profound in the mediative actions of creating meals, provisions of heat, and making a room work efficiently for one's needs. Add extraordinary views and nature to take in and a new vehicle to tackle future endeavors, builds, and the mountain...a great journey to be had and be blessed with. With much appreciation that we get to share a bit of it and look forward to the stories ahead, sincerest thanks!
I'm tearing up over the ❤ Jimny montage...I remember all the snow, mud, wood, hairpin climbs...you both made it thru unscathed! French kisses to Jimny! 🫡😘
What an unexpected opening to this weeks video. So cool to walk thru those Turin markets with you. And then at the end...the tribute to your Jimny partner on the mountain. Amazingly moving....for saying "Goodbye" to an old car... This is an example of how emotionally attached we are to your story Martijn.
The scenery is so magical. The craftsmanship solid. It makes me think 50 years from now it will all look much the same..... beautiful.
Goodbye Jimmy, and thank you! You served Martijn so well.
Jimny!
quite an epitaph to old Jimmy
Who is Jimmy? Suzuki JIMNEY
That’s so sad, he has been a real work horse and an excellent advert for Suzuki I hope he gives his next owner as much loyalty.
While change is as inevitable as water running down a hill, life-long learning and acceptance can ease the transition, often welcoming the shift in routine. As a 68 yr old who read voraciously as a young man, I have now embraced audible books, the internet and KZhead as a source of semi-intellectual content. And speaking of content, Thank you, Martjin, for creating, what I consider the finest content on KZhead…at least in my feed and for reminding me of my European ancestor’s way of life. You are a true renaissance man!
I'm a new subscriber to your account, and I can't help but smile when I see how much reverence, homage, and appreciation you have for everything you do and have in your life. I surmise your life is one of introspection, meditation and gratitude all rolled into one. What you're doing in your corner of this beautiful world will have a lasting and significant effect, and that, my friend, is grandiose and a beautiful legacy. Thank you, Martijn and I wish you all the very best.
Well said!
Welcome!!!
As time permits, you should go back to the beginning and watch every video. You can't fully appreciate what Martijn has accomplished until you see the week to week progress.
True words...
I hope you went back and watched the work over the past two years! It was amazing. Also, have you watched Martijn’s bicycle trip to the tip of South America?
Yes, someone else waits all week for this. Gorgeous, awesome, interesting, always informative, and we think we know Martijn personally. How would I, at 81, ever get to know Italy and the alps? This is my way.
It's touching to see your expression of sentimental value to Jimmy, an inanimate object. It's true, we human beings can develop bonds with animals like our dogs, cats, horses, as well as with machineries like our cars, boats, bikes.
And let’s tell the truth, you know you have a strong fatherly bond with those chickens🤣 Will you please name them already.
Whiping and crying over little car - Jimny. How she served you like a trooper. Such a little strong warrior. Wonderful market in Turin. Take care & thanks Martijn.❤
Jimney gone but not forgotten!! Nice tribute at the end. Another great video. Thank yoi.
Jimny!
Gosh what a Flea Market! What will power. I'm afraid i would go broke! Lovely. So many Old World Atifacts; books, paintings etc. What a nice tour. Thank you for sharing. Just the experience being there is overwhelming.
What a charming homage to the vehicle that became a valued and essential workhorse! I can feel your gratitude, Martijn, and it’s admirable.
I can't tell you how many views I see in your videos that make me want to paint them, I can see why you do. Even the city has great imagery. What peaceful living.
The word we southerners use for a vehicle like Jimny is workhorse. To be dependable and flexible enough for the environment of your mountain area certainly was important. Now with the bigger car and a tilt/dump trailer your work and expenses for carrying loads will be more economical money and sweat wise. We live to learn from our experiences as you have over the last two years. The second cabin build will be easier because you have learned so much from the first. The first cabin ambience is lovely. TY for sharing this building journey. Best wishes from San Antonio, Texas, USA.
Hello fellow SATX follower! 🌵
Thank you so much for sharing your progress with us. Special thank you for the "Jimmy" montage/homage at the end of this video!
I love all the white bark trees around there. They remind me of the paper birch trees where I grew up. Also, what an ode to that vehicle! You actually made me feel emotional about a car...something I would have sworn I was incapable of. (I drive a Geo Prizm, don't you know.) If I were Suzuki, I'd pay a small fortune for that footage!
Jimny’s are insanely capable for the package. Great little cars. A great tribute - a vehicle can have such a profound effect on our lives
Your videos calm my soul and take me away from my life's struggles. You're an amazing friend every Sunday morning.
Amen!
What a happy and memorable 100th.... too many things happened but the new car marked this episode then the farewell to an old friend and the bonus for me is, the perfect focaccia bread! You never miss to entertain us with your multiple talents. Thanks for sharing.
Only Martijn could make as feel so connected to a vehicle. This is what good film makers can do.
A man and his car. Often never truly understood the bond between the two. The eventual parting more difficult than can be rationally explained. Fantastic progress as always.
I am so happy when you present. Thankful I am for your sharing. Oh to be a youngster again. Living vicariously at 84❤️👍❤️🙏
Lol I'm freaking teary eyed over a Jimny??? Like for real 😂 ❤
martjin your way of living and seeing the world is incredible. there should be more people with the desire to get involved, respecting nature, environments, and cultures like you martjin. Thank you for sharing your life moments with us. I look forward to the next video
Thank you Martijn, Master Storyteller, Master Filmmaker and Artist and Builder. You are bringing such beauty to Your Jimny in this episode and the memories within your journey, I almost cried, so poignant. And your music and images climbing your mountain, building your dreams, with that darling Suzuki laboring with you in the process. Only You would make a car come to life and bring such poetry to that sweet automobile. You are the Master Storyteller in my book. Every week I so look forward to the next chapter of your grand story… Thank you, thank you. 🙏🙏🙏
Excellent
The little Jimny serve you well, the cabin kitchen looks like a piece off art.
Nice tribute to your old faithful Suzuki!
Goodbyes are sometimes so full of emotions. That was one of them. Love. 💖
Once again, your attention to detail never ceases to amaze me. Loving the shelves above the tiles. I also love the journey you’re on looking for the right furniture and fixtures waiting for the right things to come up. Your chooks seem so happy and content and keep providing 😊 The Jimny did you well.. enjoy your new Pajero.
Even your woodpile is a work of art, and I mean that with all my heart ❤️
It’s so nice to be up on the mountain away from everyone and everything but you’re not that far from the city when you want to go. Thanks for sharing so much of your wonderful life with us.
Oh no more jimny...loving the progress everything Martin does is with so much perfection from day 1 until now it's been a journey... Does anyone else feel so at peace when watching... Such a beautiful place ❤
Amazing Suzuki didn't offer you a new car. The amount of free advertising you made for that brand is invaluable.
ha , they want to sell new car not old ones , lol
Your little Cabin is Turning into art work!
My goodness...everything you touch, and administer to, is a pure work of art martijn. Wood stacking at it's finest! ❤❤
Your words to the Jimny were great….a car can be a great friend. The work of the Jimny would be the best advertisement for Suzuki ever!! I think the Pajero will do it in the best way also…
Love hearing the hens making those "chicken noises" as they scratch around - sounds from my childhood. The white one's tail has grown back wonderfully and she is looking splendid. Thank you, Martijn, for sharing all your hard work, very impressive to see how your home is gradually taking shape.. That Jimny was one tough little car, the final few minutes of your video shows all it has done over the years.
Ah Martijn, that little car was amazing! He owes you nothing and always did his best for you. I hope his new owner treats him well and gets lots more years of use from a little motorcar with a lot of heart. 🇨🇦😊
What a good little car. I just recently said goodbye to my 2006 Jeep named Bruce. He treated my mom, my sibling, and then he treated me well, he was just very very tired.
A lot of respect for a car that got you through so much on this marvellous journey you are having.
You really are a sentimental guy ❤I understand you about Jimny... cars, motorcycles, computers, other things that have become essential to our life... They have in someway a “soul”. They help, support, serve us... making our daily life easier. So a lot of gratitude for these “fellas”. Congratulations for the focaccia! Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙋🏼♀️🥰
Jimny was totally there for us. Namaste, Jimny.
So so sad seeing wee Jimny, I am in tears 😭 . What a send off you gave him. He was a great wee man, helping you, pulling heavy loads. I hope that he has an easier time in his retirement.
Wow Martijn you are amazing. The attention to detail, craftsmanship, organization, dedication, and determination is sure paying off in your home restoration. Aw striking; jaw dropping! Just love your channel! The trip to the market looking at some vintage items for your home was a treat as well. This journey is so artistically executed. Heart-wrenching to see Jimny leave; such memories with that little vehicle. With every closed door opens another and I have a feeling this new vehicle will have its own stories to tell. Ever so grateful that your sharing your journey with all of us. Looking forward to seeing many more!
Dear Martin, when i watch ur videos it reminds my experience. Alone in the mountains, stone cabin. Life changing experience to be able to start hear yourself in the deepest level of the mind, and naturally answering questions you had never new the answers. The main difference what i didnt do i had no cameras, no work, no watch, no calendar or anything for bussines purpose. Nature is not about this.Because all this dont let you be truely free and stops from becoming more pure and wise mind. Nature itself its a universal remedy against traumatized systemic mind , if you feel sick in anyway this is the place where everything transforms into pure self love . I Wish you to start share more hugs with humans, you need this. As we all. We cuddle animals, we say how beautiful they are, we want share a kiss with them, lets try to do the same with humans the ones we meet in our way. Namaste
Martijn, I understand the sentiment for your Jimmy. We had a Chev Astro van that took our family, 2 shepherds and 3 cats everywhere. She was heart and soul. But as life would have it, at 450,000 kms we had to put her down. I wrote a huge thank you on her dashboard, it was emotional, all those beautiful memories. I get it, hugs my friend.
Farewell Jimmy, Hope you find another good home. Imagine someone starting a company there for the sole purpose of restoring these old cabins, making them inhabitable again and attractive, the way the Martijn has done it. JACK OF ALL TRADES.
100 episodes, well done M! Episode 1 was the reason the wife and I spent our honeymoon in the Italian Alps, and by Episode 100, we decided we would also like a spot in Italy. Thanks for igniting a goal. Greetings from Johannesburg, S.A.
I am 🇿🇦 / 🇮🇹 Wonderful for you and your family ... would do the same.... but in our 70's now and my husband has back problems... so..... but all the best to you. From: Durban Hillcrest, South Africa. Love watching your show Martijn. 😊
Jimny has retired to a new life, now to the next chapter...Roll on Spring
Jimny!
Ahhh! I love Sunday mornings…..a good cup of coffee while watching another adventure with Martijn! Thank you!❤
Martijn, your posts are all I need. I loved following you around the flea market in Turin where so many treasures abide. Knowing you have a more stable transport is good, too. Your kitchen is just wondrous. I hope I get to see even more of your craftsmanship as I slowly and contentedly leave this earth. Much respect, peace and love to you!
В конце - прощание с ,,Джимми", как с Другом ,- до слёз...😢 Пусть ему попадётся такой же добрый хозяин и друг! Благодарю Вас Мартин за такие чувства от просмотра вашей истории жизни! ❤

I've been meaning to thank you for modulating the sound when you use power tools. I know it's extra work but I just wanted you to know that I appreciate it. Love your cabins and can't wait to see what happens this year.
Hey Martin, its so good to see you in your cosy and warm house! Not in the tent! So good, eating your diner by the fire place! 🎉🎉🎉
Yep.Mad respect for the little Beast...The Market was Great...Joy, joy. Your closing statement was epic. Until the next vlog, Martijn 😊
the jimny got its own montage at the end 🤣
What a beautiful tribute to your Suzuki, Martjin. Japanese cars are reliable. You deserve a new one!
Love the sparse simplicity of the kitchen and house. Beautiful. Bye Jimny. Thanks for sharing.
Loved the little farewell to the Jimny 😂
Peaceful video again. Feelings of safety almost🙏. The feeling I miss so much these days. And what a great tribute to the Jimny. There is a soul in everything😊 Wishing you all beautiful things and looking forward to your next video. En dat zelfgemaakte bammetje en broodtrommel tijdens je ochtend wandeling: geweldig!😊
Such a heartfelt tribute to Jimmy 😇 We will miss you!
I finally caught up, and on episode 100 no less! Thank you so much for an incredible series, Martijn! The slower pace, the nice music, great camerawork and your incredible attention to details makes this channel something else. It's truly the antithesis to modern society, and it brings me peace and meaning like little else online these days. All the best Martijn, can't wait for the next 100!
The flea market in Turin, and you came home with a hook. Mad props to you!
Martin looks lost in an urban setting! Lol! Who is following with the camera in Turin?
That market and antique shop - to die for! Nothing ever could compare over here!😍🇨🇦
