Formula 1, a sport like no other. This isn’t just about pushing the limits of human ability; it’s about bending physics and chemistry to man kind's will.

03:07:41 Conclusion
Exploration and experimentation, the twin pillars of human progress, have driven us from the first flicker of fire to the monumental moon landing. It's this unquenchable thirst for discovery and the urge to push boundaries that has carved our path through history. This quest led us to conquer oceans, delve deep into the earth, spark the industrial revolution, and ultimately, give birth to the combustion engine.
The dawn of the combustion engine brought about new possibilities. The horseless carriage, as cars were first known, was slower than walking at first. Just a toy for rich men with more money than sense. In England, from 1865 to 1896, you had to have someone walk in front of you waving a red flag to warn horse riders and people walking that you were coming. For years they were impractical, unreliable, and far more expensive than a horse and carriage, but that wouldn’t last for long.
But now times have changed and so did the perception of people about cars.
How did we go from horse carriages to racing multi-million-dollar vehicles on track? Well, watch till the end to find out more.

  • This is 100% what I was looking for. I've typically preferred cars that look like they could also be road-going. But I have started to really get into F1 lately, and I wanted to learn about the history via a long documentary-style vid. Most videos I found were pretty good, but only reached 20-30 minutes. Thanks, man. More than three hours is no joke. I really appreciate the effort.

    • @@carnell7042f1 was just as financially motivated in the past as it is now. If anything, it might even be less so now. People look back on the past with rose tinted glasses, forgetting how many issues there were… if you weren’t in the top 4-6, it was basically a race of attrition. The racing was good when it was actually possible, but I’d argue there are just as many good races in the current era.

  • the '94 Season was very special and what's missing from the video is that the Benneton of Schumacher was down on power from all other cars, it had a V8 engine compared to the V10 in Hill's Williams and Ferrari's V12, what Schumacher did that year was truly outstanding in an era where there was no engine dominance over all rivals on the grid.

  • A tour de force of F1 history. Thank you for your cyclopedic knowledge of the sport. Back in 1968 I remember getting my motorcycle helmet signed by Emerson Fittipaldi when going to Kyalami on a Wednesday afternoon after school. We rode right into the pits and all the drivers were having tea. (You can’t do that today!) I asked Emerson for his autograph and he grabbed my helmet and signed it. All the other drivers ragged him by shouting “Emerson!” together. One thing I did not know was that Gunston was the first cigarette company to sponsor F1. The brand was famous in SA with all their sponsored cars painted in “Gunston Orange”. The racing Ford Capri Piranha was iconic at the time. Thanks once again!

As a tip to get more people to see this, you could divide it in to separate video's for each 'era'. Not everyone goes and watch a 3 hour long (amazing) documentary about F1 history. By making it more like episodes maybe more people would want to watch this. I think this is almost mandatory for all F1 fans. Again, really wel done, and thank you.

In terms of most embarrassing moment, I would submit that the last race of 2021 was much higher on the scale than the Indy debacle. At least there, rules were followed, though it lead to a weird situation. In most prior controversies, it was teams doing something shady and against the rules. In Abu Dabi, it was the actual officials doing it!

I've been an FI fan since the early 60s, being the same age as the post WW2 F1 Grand Prix's modern era. I rode my first motorcycle a few hundred miles in the rain (round-trip) to attend the first F1 Grand Prix of Canada at Mosport Park (in the rain!), during August of 1967, as I was already a big fan of Jim Clark in particular. Kudos to the whole production crew including the archivists, researchers, statisticians and writers! 🏁 🏎 🏁 🏎 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🏎 🏁 🏎 🏁
