I would love to see Shadows of The Empire as a movie.
Not going to happen with Disney. Enjoy Rose Tico: Girl Power Awakens, you racist patriarchal cisgender male! Coming soon to Disney Plus
It would be so awesome.
Or remade with advanced graphics
There was a period of time when it felt as if they were really trying to make that happen. Not only was there the book and game, but a soundtrack for the book and action figures.
@@okitasan apparently the whole point of shadows of them empire was to increase demand for Star wars before they released the original trilogy in theaters again, which was intended to mentally hype everybody up for the prequels. I read the comics, I bought the action figures, I played the games. 96 to 2006 was a great and exciting time to love star wars
All these years this was one of my favorite N64 games. I had no idea there was a PC version with cutscenes and voice acting. I will be finding this!
Beat this on my N64 and all 3 Star Wars trilogy games on SNES. Mid 90s was a great time for SW games. Long live those wonderful memories.
Better than the movies that came out and all these shows that are coming out in the past 10 or 15 years
Crazy that this game had FPS, starship and speeder gameplay. It must've been one of the first games to have that kind of variety. Very ambitious
This game spawned the whole rouge squadron line of games it was very influential. I played the N64 version i don't remember voice acting or cgi cutscenes being in it.
@@cakensmoosher2911 Yes. It's been a while since I've played the N64 version. From memory it just had static images to portray the story. CGI cutscenes and voice acting was added for the PC version I believe.
I 100% this game on N64. I played the hell out of it and today...in 2023...I find out there were cutscenes and voice acting in the PC version! Wild!@@roberthaynes8830
It was the inspiration for Rogue Squadron.
@@cakensmoosher2911No voice acting or CGI on the N64 (original) version, it was green holo display (pic) and text. There is pre-rendered cinematics which you can spot easy enough.
Back when Star wars was still alive.
I only ever knew the N64 version of this game, and never knew the PC version had movie like cut scenes. I really wish this could be brought over to the Nintendo Switch.
Even though he isn't - by far! - the hardest boss fight in the game, I ALWAYS dread fighting IG-88 whenever I play through this game, especially on higher difficulties. Something about the noises he makes, the way he moves so unnaturally fast, the way the cluttered environment and his huge vertical leap allows him to appear out of nowhere, and the way he can absolutely shred you with that pulse cannon raises my blood pressure every time lmao.
Shoot, as a kid, the first time I beat him I accidentally glitched under the train and got the perfect angle; his shots couldn't hit me, but I could shoot out where I had clipped.
Yeah in my first couple attempts, he really kicked my ass. That, coupled with the prospect of having to replay that long train mission gave him a certain intimidation on later playthroughs.
As soon as I clicked this video this fight is all I wanted to see. When I watched Mandalorian and they had a clone of him on the show it held a special place in my heart, and I could tell my friends didn't even know who he was.
The flying inside the reactor core is pure insanity
Had this on n64. Great times 😢
Yes it was!
This was SUCH a unique and cool multimedia project!
Crossmarketing as a story from three perspectives on three different media platforms (comic, book, game) is nearly unmatched up to this day.
I really like how the devs made it so the stormtroopers can fall off cliffs and yell like in the movies. Pretty funny
Ig88 always scared the shit outta me.
You and many others 0~0
fucking nightmare fuel. Between him, the creature from Tales From The Crypt and ED-209 from Robocop I barely had a decent nights sleep in the 90s lol
@@twobirdsstonedatonce I was born in 83. The only thing on TV that I remember bothering me was The Cryptkeeper from TFTC. I wouldn't watch HBO because they would occasionally show a preview or something from an upcoming episode. I would hurry passed channel 5 (HBO) and if I accidentally saw the cryptkeeper my night was ruined. No sleep. I was wrecked when my older brother told me it wasn't a witch , like I had always thought , but a guy who had been dead a long time. He then proceeded to tell me that it was what I would look like in my casket after a while. I remember sleeping in a sleeping bag next to my parents bed for a week after that. It stormed the night he told me that and I remember trembling in my sleeping bag the whole night. Ahh to be a kid again!! Lmao.
@@chadmiller2224 that's definitely an older brother move LOL
This game's plot is better than the Disney sequels and more true to the Star Wars universe.
....and the prequels
I played this game a LOT. Outside of GoldenEye and Ocarina of Time this is the game I played most on N64. Had completely forgotten about it.
Jeez! I had GoldenEye and Ocarina of Time too!
When Star Wars was still good and true Star Wars.
This game was criminally underrated
In what way? It did get mixed to positive reviews back in the day and sold over a million copies? I think it was treated quite fairly. I also look fondly back on it, but mostly on the Hoth battle. No way in hell I would try to play this again, in this day and age. Back then I gave it more time than it deserved because of Star Wars and the thought of what it COULD be.
@@Evilkingus - Pretty much, yeah. The problem is that the game feels a bit half-baked, especially as it requires you to have read the other parts of the project. Is Dash dead? According to this game, yes, but the comic shows us that he just randomly faked his death and never told Luke or Leia. What's going on in Xizor's palace when Dash is running around the sewers trying to plant bombs? According to this game, nothing of consequence other than picking up Leia. (The comic shows a standoff with a thermal detonator, intrigue with Xizor's assistant Juri and a much more focused confrontation.) The Vader/Xizor rivalry is functionally missing completely from this game, which was one of the best parts of the comic/novel. It sold well because of the SW brand and the novelty of the N64, but as someone who also played this way back in the day, there's no way I'd go back and voluntarily play it now. Feels like it's missing half the connective tissue, and the wonky controls aren't worth the frustration of seeing it through.
I had a love and hate relationship with this game when I was a kid. I had it for N64, some parts were so hard for me, but I loved Star Wars and I loved the atmosphere of this game so I kept going lol Now I miss it, thank you for this nostalgia bit!
Did exactly what I did on N64. Saved every spare bullet of every other weapon for that last battle… remember the cheat code pressing all buttons and moving that joystick side to side, waiting for the tiny dink sound, which would get you infinite ammo and jet pack. Which could only be done after all the challenge points were obtained. Ah good times
i could get that last challenge point in the freighter level
I remember having a 3dx Voodoo-Card and I was totally overwhelmed by the graphics.
If only someone could make an fanmade extended version on N64 with voices and cinematics (musics were amazing), that would be so amazing ! I'm also ok to get the game remastered on current consoles ! I love that game so much !
I wouldn't mind the N64 style still images with just the voices over top of it, I actually prefer how the hand drawn still images look compared to the dated CG in this.
Star Wars SNES and N64 was the best much better than all this now games now
Truth!
Thanks for this nostalgic trip to my childhood :D
Man, I remember one Christmas when my uncle brought his laptop with him up from Florida, and we hooked it up to our cousin's top of the line portable digital projector with its screen set up in the living room. We played Shadows on that bad boy and thought we were kings of the dang WORLD.
This brings back so many memories.
The falling to your death was so funny. My brother and I always laughed. 13:40
Damn! I remember when this first came out! Graphics blew my mind!
Oh man, it’s been a long time since I’ve played this game. One of the best Star Wars games ever. Not only would I love to see this story be made into a movie, I kinda wish this game would get a full blown remake.
Ho-ly shit did this awaken some huge nostalgia. I remember playing this as a kid. Now trying to find if I still have the original game too hahaha. Hope I find it.
One of my favorite games to play
Weather for this or the N64 version, the sound tracks just makes you picture the movie lines in your head.
You have failed to protect the Shield Generator
GG! Those AT-ST's were always a pain to kill with your blaster
Cuando Star Wars era Star Wars.
Back in the old good days I had a lot of fun with this game
The yeti/wookies are literal nightmare fuel lol
Hit right in the child hood with the n64 nostailgia even tho its a pc port.
I love Shadows of the Empire, my all time fav starwars game
I applaud your skill but this game in first person view is about as pleasant as watching a go-pro in a washing machine. No idea how you can play like that but gg.
I always played the game in first person, too.
😢Believe in the gospel Jesus Christ for Jesus Christ shed his blood and died for the sins of the world and he was buried and rose again from the dead three days later. For Jesus Christ God almighty and the flesh and if you believe in the gospel you are spiritually reborn into the family of God.
I used to have this game in N64, so just imagine how many hours I spent trying to finish it. I was literally obsessed to this game.
@@ryanosborn3252Please, no Protestant propaganda in my channel.
@@314vc6 Actually we could all use a prayer these days.
I so want to see a Civvie 11 video on this game - it would be hilarious. Just a continuous string of screaming and swearing.
THIS IS SIMPLY NOSTALGIC
I loved this game so much. Puked for an hour after playing it, but I still played it anyway!! Game made me so motion sick.
That's weird I don't even remember this being on PC. Can't picture the store box art at all after looking at it. Wonder if it wasn't widely distributed.
It was very much widely distributed. Got my copy from CompUSA back in the day. The first level of the game was also included as a pack in game with the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Joystick.
Just been playing Jedi Survivor and replaying Fallen Order and just realized how similar these are and also how much better this game could have been with a mouse and keyboard. Music is awesome though.
Be cool if they did a movie. They’d have to CGI a lot of the old characters faces though (de-age them or do a CGI face graph-like they did in “Rogue One” with Tarkin.)
can u imagine what a 2023/4 remake of this would be like? mmm one can only dream of such things
1:30:02 this is why I could never beat this game. You calmly enter this room to see thick murky water then out of nowhere the water rises and there's a giant sea monster below you that you have to fight. I close my eyes turn around and walk backwards towards the n64 to turn it off.
AHH , the dianoga stage , you should have stuck with it😂😂
That scared you???
@@chadmiller2224 I was like 9, I was traumatized by the Eel in Mario 64 before I played this game.
@@Neru619 Lol games never bothered me. Probably because I'm older than you and when I was a kid we had an Atari and then our first out of a few nes systems. My bro is 12 years older, so he'd bore me with Zelda and I wanted to play Contra and Tiger Heli and Godzilla. I also loved excite bike and RC pro am. I didn't like nor understand the og Zelda lol. Oh and cant forget Paperboy!
Surprisingly that level design at 10:16 looks exactly like the 7th or 6th mission from Dark Forces. Guns sounds are too taken from that game.
Back in the day I stopped playing shortly after beating IG-88. Life got in the way and I never got around to completing it. After 26 years I finally get to see the ending of the game.
What happened after he opens the cockpit door to the Falken? It's like the camera slides over the space ship, and out the hangar doors.... ???
Amazing..right in the nostalgia gland
I loved this game
I loved this game.
THIS game needs a Nightdive remaster.
Was the soundtrack added in post-production? Sounds too hifi-ish for this game compared to other in-game sounds.
God I loved this game
Why do the AT-AT heavy canons sound so different then those say for the N 64
fantastic graphics
There's *cutscenes* I mean, actual ones. Not the n64 storyboarding. That's nuts.
I swear...i don't remember it being only 4 pixels......goodness im old.
sometimes i wonder if these were even play tested, or they just thought "eh... put some stuff in there and let them figure it out"
i wonder if it is downloadable through emulator ect.
I had no idea this was on pc
0:45 ESB opening music
This storyline, "Shadows of the Empire", is one of the greatest stories from the Star Wars story-verse. If only disney would have appreciated what they acquired...Instead of dropping big, fat, steaming loads all over the whole thing.
Im sure we could see the weapon on Master System.
I could never shoot down the AT-ATs when I played this game.
classic
wish they would redo this game with updated graphics !
Had the N64 port for this
aaaaah the memories ! Interesting technic you have to beat the AT-ST at the end of the first stage. My go-to move was to rush under his feet, and shoot the cabin. This technic is really effective when playing on harder mode :) Also, for the Slave 1 : you can place yourself right between his two cannons, this is a "blind" spot ^^ He will try to shoot, but you'll be out of reach, and you can shoot at him ;D
Cool man
wow this was bad ass then
Sadly the ATATs don’t move forward
1:23:00 The sewer level has fantastic music.
I had this game as a kid. I never could get past the trash level. I got all the way to almost the end, died, SLAMMED the controller and never played it again. 😂😂
i remember solo'ing the first ATST boss on foot, by shooting its legs, because I didn't realize the "z" button on the N64 controller let me look up...
While I enjoyed it at the time I don't think I could go through playing it again. I hated that platforming level up high too.
This game scares me.
An old school game!
I remember this first mission (and being really bad at it, cuz I was a dumb kid. I mean DUMB) Once I got the hang of it though, I felt unstoppable (even-though I was still trash) lol
This game had the first train sequence. By god its tough and the physic are terrible, however it did have you running along the top of a train
The speed of the game is bit too fast. Too much fps?
I wished they would make the remake of this game for new generation consoles.. rather than another super duper fixed hi res residen evil or uncharted.
I wish theyd remake it but with Jedi Fallen Order / Survivor engine.
OH GOD SLAVE 1 IS MUCH FASTER O_o
Hmm this looks like a weaker version of Rogue Squadron 3D? Did they release the same game twice. :)
No, this came first and Rogue Squadron was created upon the game mechanics they used in SotE first. Also flying was only a minor part in this game.
The PC graphics are the same as the N64.
GB 128.
This was the best ever game on the 64

This did not age well.

Lock the guard in the room with the wampas, boring to shoot him. I sometimes wonder if these walkthrough players ever really played these games as a kid.

Nice cheats! 👎👎👎
Terrible game and if you have nostalgia for it, you're wrong.
