Further progress with the FV4005 project today as we fit various components and the rebuilt Rolls-Royce 27L V12 engine into Centurion hull.
We should have the turret for the FV4005 by the end of the month.
This isn't just a few lads playing with a tank. This is history being made and a documented restoration in full. Phenomenal attention to detail and well done Jack on all the cleaning, polishing and painting. Love this series
I said it before and I'll say it again, those that tinker with "old steel" are gold👍

As a disabled U.S. Army Abrams mechanic.. I really enjoy watching you guys do your rebuild work. I have to admit to some jealousy over the fact that you all get to do this work, and I can not. Working on Military equipment was something I loved more than anything. Good job on the project so far.

@@chrisbacon3071 at the time I served.. it was the crew of the tanks. Some of the things I had to deal with were beyond tolerance. If you mean about the tank specifically... it would have to be {redacted redacted redacted redacted, redacted}. I hope that answers your question.

My favourite bit of this series is someone had to go to the tank museum board and say "i found a dog, a mechanic and a man in a hi-vis and think we should give them the barn for giggles"

That engine bay is an absolute thing of beauty. I think it is the red linkages that tip the whole build from great to outstanding.
Ted is taking direct responsibility for this FV4005 project and it shows in the quality of work on the project. Ted is a safe set of paws on this one. 🐕

So far this looks better than anything the factory standard. As always if in doubt slap a coat of copper anti-seize. Beer and anti-seize are the best inventions.
I quite agree, however not necessarily in that order…

Water pump pliers make a real tidy job of folding lock tabs, the tab needs a slight lift but then use water pump pliers to get a clean fold. Brilliant work great team love the banter.
You guys got a great payoff in terms of a very smooth reinstall because of top class preparation and layout. Plus you really know your stuff. A pleasure to watch.

I am happy to see that Ted is working and not just supervising. It's also great to see that he is forklift certified, as opposed to an alarming amount of frogs that aren't..

Oshkosh are used as aviation fuel bowsers in the British army
My son recently left the British Army, he drove the Oshkosh amongst others. Beast.

Well done everyone, especially Jack. When the parts were laid out on the ground at the start, I thought it looked a bit like a giant Airfix model minus the plastic frame. Love the attention to detail and effort here. It's already very rewarding and will be brilliant!

In 1967 68 i worked for Rolls Royce and built the V12 proto type great engine and nice to see taking care of them . love your vids keep em coming from Canada.
I was looking forward to this vid. Honestly many folks have zero appreciation of how much work something like this restoration is. I'm hoping all the upcoming work goes smoothly for you, you've approached this with lots of logic and careful consideration of process. More cider for you both I say!
I reckon Ted has it all worked out and passes instructions to Joe and Jack using telepathy, otherwise known as the dog and bone. You are doing an amazing job fellas.

thank the Lord, finally Ted has seen sense in showing you how to operate the fork lift properly - although when moving you should really keep the load low keeping the centre of gravity low, you'll learn that when things go slightly whoops when off road, and by that time Ted would have foreseen this and jumped well clear, self preservation Yet again Jack has performed a miracle of paint inside the engine bay, great job Jack

Great looking work there, looks fab, personally I’d avoid copper slip on bolts etc after having spent many hours beating 40mm+ pins out of hydraulic rams. Often having to gas cut the ram eye in half/off to release the pin, and there always is the remains of copperslip the manufacturer used, actually eaten into the steel and behaving like it’d been brazed in. Electrolytic reaction I believe it’s called. Plain bearing grease every time . My old foreman used to swear by copperslip, using it on HGV clutch splines and such, despite us having to hard scrape the stuff off when replacing a clutch. This went on for a few years until I showed him the bit of paper in the box the clutch comes in , you know, the bit of paper nobody reads😆 , well on there from Lockheed it clearly stated “ no metallic type greases on the clutch splines “. His face was a picture, all be it an incredibly red one 😂😂😅 White grease on splines etc. A lot of drum brakes use white grease/ptfe grease for everything sliding.

The tank is looking brilliant and am pleased to see that Ted is leading the way. His calm demeanor and attention to detail is well apparent. Amazing to think that you lot have done this massive job, in a shed down by the river with two spanners, an adjustable wrench and a big hammer. When it was originally built they had hundreds of hands, in a massive factory full of hoists and torches and all well supervised by some suites and clipboards. Well done, cheers.

OOh I missed this yesterday. I was out on Birthday visit looking at Hawkinge museum OK not tanks but they did have an RAF crane which would look good on the farm. Good show and shiney bolts all round!

Clever dual use of engine mounting frames and coolant supply. No long rubber pipes to fail and good use of space.
