Great demonstration of the dogs at work, but very poor shot. Iv hunted for most of my life and understand we miss shots from time to time. But I would have followed up straight away.

Not all animals flop immediately. Even with proper hits in the head and/or other vital areas. There's plenty of hunting vids on this platform where good hits were made, but the quarry still took off. I don't know the actual ratio between game that died where they stood, or how many took off. But, such isn't that un-common.

I shot a coyote with a 22mag one morning and a 17hmr in the afternoon. Both hit twice in the kill zone and both kept trucking. The 204 finished off the 2nd one when he laid down behind a bush. I relegated both of those to prairie dog duty. I've got a Volquartsen 17wsm I'd like to try out on a yote but I worry the result would be the same. The Savage A17 target hmr is so accurate that when they start getting that gun out in the 17wsm I may have to try it and if it's as good as the little brother I'll be selling the Volquartsen. I like seeing dogs drop right there, not running off.

My savage bmag 17wsm will shoot sub 1/2" at 100 yards with the Winchester 20 grain. The win 25 grain is about 7/8". That's with the cheap factory plastic stock which I will replace soon. I don't expect better groups, I don't see how they come be better, but those lam stocks Savage uses on some guns are cool.

I have shot 108 coyotes in 3 years with .17 wsm in 20 and 25 grain... it's either DRT or 3 to 5 shots before it quits running. Adrenaline is the factor with them. Excited will take more lead usually. But if coyotes unaware = Dead Right There!

I think with those long distance shots I would just go for a 308 at a minimum but my preference, even though it's a more expensive round is a 30-06 because you don't have to hit it with the headshot for it to be lights out. I killed a huge mule deer with a 30-06 and it went 10 steps and fell down

Curiosity question...any concern about your pooches contracting diseases from any "coy-toters?" (local nickname) Especially, God forbid, from a bite? I've tagged along with a couple of buddies I have that hunt coy-toters on a fairly consistent basis. Both times, predator calls were used, so I'm not well versed when it comes to those things.

Can't much get any cleaner than that I believe. And, not all animals simply "flop" immediately. I've made proper hits on animals in the head and/or vital areas, and still take off. Everything from small game and varmints, to deer and black bear...every situation is different.

Greyhounds actually catch and fight to kill. Thats not the goal here. Its chase and retreat. It's a fine line to have a dog brave enough to harass but smart enough to lead them back without the fight. The only reason I can think of that he takes so long to shoot is getting more video. His dogs are working percectly.

I hunt Coyotes for the $50 Utah bounty with a electronic caller, so I don't see where these dogs are useful other than the entertainment watching the dogs get into scraps with Coyotes ? I sure don't have any problem with anyone using the dogs it just puzzle me why use the dogs ? Even if a Coyote is at extreme range I have the 300 Wby mag loaded with 125 grain bullets to put the hurt in the Coyote . Other rifles I use are AR 15 in 17 Remington - AR 10 in 6mm -284 win which launches 58 grain bullets at 4800 FPS from a 26 inch Pac Nor barrel .

Step one: Learn to shoot better than that idiot so you don't unnecessarily wound an animal and cause it pain.

Curiosity question...any concern about your pooches contracting diseases from any "coy-toters?" (local nickname) Especially, God forbid, from a bite? I've tagged along with a couple of buddies I have that hunt coy-toters on a fairly consistent basis. Both times, predator calls were used, so I'm not well versed when it comes to those things.

Can't much get any cleaner than that I believe. And, not all animals simply "flop" immediately. I've made proper hits on animals in the head and/or vital areas, and still take off. Everything from small game and varmints, to deer and black bear...every situation is different.

Greyhounds actually catch and fight to kill. Thats not the goal here. Its chase and retreat. It's a fine line to have a dog brave enough to harass but smart enough to lead them back without the fight. The only reason I can think of that he takes so long to shoot is getting more video. His dogs are working percectly.

What do you have around their necks with the antenna? Trackers?
Not sure but I assume it sends a signal for them to come back when the dogs are too far to hear his vocal commands. Most likely a vibration.

Why is everyone always trying to replace the 223? It's available by every manufacturer, it's fast, accurate and the ammunition is readily available in any bullet weight u prefer. Its a coyote killer.

I hunt Coyotes for the $50 Utah bounty with a electronic caller, so I don't see where these dogs are useful other than the entertainment watching the dogs get into scraps with Coyotes ? I sure don't have any problem with anyone using the dogs it just puzzle me why use the dogs ? Even if a Coyote is at extreme range I have the 300 Wby mag loaded with 125 grain bullets to put the hurt in the Coyote . Other rifles I use are AR 15 in 17 Remington - AR 10 in 6mm -284 win which launches 58 grain bullets at 4800 FPS from a 26 inch Pac Nor barrel .
