  • Hahaha...my 2000 XJ Classic has the pull lever for the transfer case. Pulling into 4H feels a bit "grindy", but it does the job. The worst part, unlike your Jeep, is getting out of 4H back to 2H. I can push the lever back down to 2H, but it never feels smooth. My steering becomes very tight and turning creates a ton of uncomfortable feedback in the transmission shuttering. I once got a tip from a country mechanic to shift into reverse after shifting the transfer case out of 4WD. That works, but now I find myself having to aggressively reverse through a turn to unlock the 4H shuttering/tightness. It's not a pleasant experience.

    @ghrohrs2020@ghrohrs20202 жыл бұрын

    @TheRobotix@TheRobotix2 жыл бұрын
    • I have never actually had to use chains for their intended purpose. However if you are traveling across the country and you think it wise to have chains, you will be happy to learn that there are zip tie tire chains available. They are very easy to install and remove, and way much less than standard tire chains. I ordered a few packs of them and keep them in the cubby in the back of the Jeep. They could come in handy at some point in really icy snowy conditions or even mud.

    • Correct! Over rubbing the engine is always bad! Depending on tire size, gear ratio, and other parameters sets the high speed in 4lo... 4lo should only be used sparingly and in the correct conditions. I would never recommend driving for any sustained amount of time at any amount of high speed in 4lo

      @unofficialuseonly@unofficialuseonly3 жыл бұрын

    • Crow-walking, when you attract friction and traction between the tires and the surface the wheels travel at different speeds when turning, therefore you will feel your vehicle stutter back and forth. Same principle with limited slip differentials in rear and turning, one wheel will turn faster than the other.

    • Someone told me that you can’t drive in part time while on regular dry pavement

      @pamelav.5699@pamelav.56993 жыл бұрын
    • The Jeep Liberty is equipped a 4-speed, four-wheel drive system called “Command -Trac.” The system provides two-wheel drive, neutral, four-wheel drive high range and four-wheel drive low range positions. Shifting the Jeep into four-wheel drive may become necessary on slippery or icy roads, and switching between the high and low range may become necessary if the road conditions deteriorate as you travel on them. The four-wheel drive is also very helpful if you travel off highway. Grasp the transfer case shifter on your Jeep and shift from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive high range by pulling straight back on the shifter from "2H" to "4H." This shift can be made at any speed less than 55 miles per hour, without stopping. The case will shift easier if you ease off the throttle as you move the lever. Four wheel high should only be used on slippery surfaces, (ice, snow, gravel etc). I would recommend against using four-wheel drive on dry pavement

    • I’m familiar with standard shift, it’s my favorite type of vehicle to drive, I learned with a 5 sp Ford ranger. I need an empty parking lot and some practice with this Jeep today!Yesterday I wasn’t sure if the part time light on the dash was supposed to be on and drive in part time, So I pulled the four-wheel-drive shifter to neutral. It ran very smoothly till I reached the parking space where I was trying to park, when trying to pull in and back up and pull forward it did not want to go, I had to push it back down into part time drive before it would actually park. So my main question is, Do I drive in part time when driving till needing to shift in other drives due to weather and etc?

    @andreasantora7363@andreasantora73633 жыл бұрын
    • The golfer pro dude is completely wrong. Putting it into 4hi will not decrease your ability to turn at all. When you say "your all locked up" I'm assuming you have your differential-locked. If your center diff is locked it gives you the ability to lock front and rear axles to divide the engine power. If the rear diff is locked it makes both the rear wheels have the same amount of power making it harder for you to get stuck. Thanks for reading my "car essay" for the day please respond if you have any more questions.

The Sahara has a limited-slip differential that prevents excessive power from being allocated to one wheel, and so keeps both wheels in powered rotation, ensuring that the traction will not be limited to the wheel which can handle the minimum amount of power.

When engaging or disengaging low-range mode, do it only when the vehicle is moving at 2 to 3 mph (3 to 5 km/h) or slower. Avoid using this mode for normal driving.

      @unofficialuseonly@unofficialuseonly3 жыл бұрын
    • Also, I just have to add that I said you can travel as fast as the vehicle will allow. Which means exactly what it is, depending on the gear ratio inside the transfer case will determine how fast you can go in four low. My Jeep can reach speeds of 45 mph in four low, because of the tire size, gear ratio in the transfer case, and gear ratio in the axles. However, I would not travel at that rate of speed because the engine revolutions would be way too high.
