There’s some fights where ropes or a cage doesn’t really matter, but this wasn’t one of them. Footwork and positioning should always be your first line of defense and in a situation like this you can get away with it being your only line of defense…but when the space starts to shrink, you got to have more up your sleeve.

I don’t know why people think they can do the Philly shell, it’s not as easy as it looks but Asian dude did good, just needs more conditioning on jabs and more combos
Philly shell is a natural hand position. Beginners do it well against each other.
@@cactu5jack most people forget that to use the lean back/ pull counter they need to step back with their back foot rather than just leaning back with their torso, and rotating your torso is something you need to condition in order to effectively use the shoulder roll
To me the philly Shel is more intuitive
@@qs2808 i was simply talking about the hand position, not counters. i rarely see a good shoulder roll in the gym, and never a good pull counter
The dude in yellow gloves was way better. Used much more economical defense; he was making the dude in green gloves miss a ton without giving up excess ground or expending a lot of energy. Green gloves needs to expand his defensive arsenal. Anyone could retreat backwards until they find their backs against the ropes or even in a corner.
