  • The first time I tried to remove my aligners, I struggled so much and I think I took half an hour just to remove them. I got so scared they were stuck and contemplated calling my doctor (it was late at night). Thankfully I figured it out eventually but wished I had watched your video before I got my aligners to save me that initial misery.

  • Second day here! I've been struggling a little. The worst is when you remove them on your molars but it's stuck on the rest. This puts so much pressure on the front teeth and then It's easy to panic. So biggist tips for me are the 'pull forward, pull down' on the front teeth and trying it with both hands at the same time!

  • Great set of videos, Dr. Bailey! I have a question about something that happened this morning - before watching your videos! Currently on Tray 3. I've been using the 'puller' on the lower aligners on the palate side, and it caught the plastic in a way that now leaves a 'dent' in the aligner along with a small intrusion of plastic material towards the back molar. As far as I can tell, the aligner still fits. Will the dent/intrusion affect/inhibit teeth movement to a significant degree? In other words, should I move on to Tray 4 a few days early to avoid any adverse effects?

  • I had bloody gums the first time I tried to remove my aligners, and still have difficulty removing aligners 25 weeks in, but not nearly as bad as the first week. The hooks and nails did not work for me because the aligners would always pop back in at the molar. I use a paper towel to grip the aligner between my thumb and forefinger placed on the edge of the aligner at the back molar, so that the aligner is not squeezed inward when I grip it, because the pressure from my grip would not allow the aligner to clear the attachments. The towel prevents the aligner from slipping loose from my grip. I also pry the aligner a little outward to help it clear the attachments. Then I either follow the loosening technique you mention at 6:56 inching along from one side to the other, or start on one side, then switch to the other side, depending on which technique is easier for either the upper or lower aligner. If I encounter significant resistance on one side because it won't clear the attachments, then I try the other side at the back. Basically I follow the path of least resistance and it does require some experimentation.

After reviewing my ClinCheck yesterday, I know that most of my teeth will have attachments (my front teeth are the exception) and one upper front tooth will have a power ridge. I already requested a pull tool for my upcoming birthday and am hoping they will come before my first set of trays because it sounds like using the tool will be my only choice since I must keep my nails short for martial arts.

    @patola7642@patola76422 жыл бұрын
    • Ouch, that’s a common finding because the insertion and removal of the two teeth are not parallel so at least one of the front teeth would feel much more pressure. It does get better with time when the teeth get straighter.

  • This is helpful, I hope this works because I started my 2nd aligners and a button came off. This is terrible because when I got my first aligners on the same day several button came off when I took them out at night! I told my dentist and she said it was my fault because I don’t properly take them off. So in the future I did the way she told me to do it but now a button came off. Idk what to do my dentist said she doesn’t want to waste her time on my teeth because she wants it to be on track and it makes me feel awful 😣

  • I’m from Singapore and I’m day 7 on my aligner. My top left teeth are very crowded and I have attachments on almost all teeth, hence it is very difficult to remove my aligner. My nails are chipped, my lips had ulcers on both sides near the left and right canines. Unlike in the first video, when I tried to remove both ends from inside, the tray only slide down slightly (like only 1 or 2mm). The whole row is tightly fit on the teeth… first 3 days were hell. I even considered not eating.. 😔 so I tried all ways and I pried from the front too! (I wished I had seen this channel and both the videos on the first 2 days) On day 5 (night) when cleaning the tray, I realised there is a slight crack (in between 21 and 22), I then recalled I didn’t feel the soreness like the first few mornings when I removed the tray. I didn’t feel the soreness this morning too.. Does it mean the tray doesn’t work anymore? Should I get it fixed? I have 8 more days to go before my 2nd tray, should I still change to the 2nd tray?

    @tsai3009@tsai30092 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks for sharing your experience with others who may benefit from it. Generally it’s best to continue to wear the same aligner until you’re ready to switch to the next. It’s not uncommon for aligners to have small tears at the beginning of treatment, especially in areas of crowding. Of course, you should ask your treating orthodontist for their advice.

  • I ordered the tools....day 2 and I'm not going to fight with the trays....I get why they need to be in place so tight but the tool to remove them should come with the trays... And the dentist should have you remove them and put them back in a few times before the end of your visit. To avoid all that panic at home. Great product but it seems that much needed hands on training is lacking.

  • I have attachments on almost all of my teeth (all but two I think!) and one tooth has an attachment on both the outside and the inside. It feels almost impossible to get the aligners off of that tooth (second to the back molar). I have been peeling from the easy side to the hard side, to try to release all attachments except that one first but am so stressed about possibly twisting and straining the trays. Do you have any tips for this situation?

    @ShannonS-pt7tz@ShannonS-pt7tz5 ай бұрын
  • It was impossible to remove my aligner with bare hands. a pair of surgical gloves helped. Even with a pair of surgical gloves, I have to use both my thumb and index fingers to grab my aligners. Frankly, this is not a sustainable practice when I am outside. I bought the hook thingy. Waiting for it to be delivered.

  • For some people, like me, this does not work: I don't have long nails, and where I live I cannot buy the hook tool. In addition, I can't take the trays on one side and then the other, because the pressure is si big that when I try taking the trays of the second side, the tray put again on the tooth of the first side.

    • I understand that the suggestion provided in the video may not work for everyone and that you are facing some challenges in removing your Invisalign trays. It can be frustrating to not have access to certain tools or to find that a method that works for others does not work for you. It sounds like the pressure you are experiencing when trying to remove the tray from one side is making it difficult to remove the tray from the other side. It's important to consult your orthodontist, they can advise on alternative methods to remove the trays, or adjust the treatment plan to suit your needs and make the process more comfortable. Keep in mind that with any orthodontic treatment, it can take some time to get used to wearing and removing the trays, and it's important to be patient and persistent. You should always work closely with your orthodontist and follow their instructions to ensure that your treatment is as comfortable and effective as possible.
