Horse Branding In Mongolia - Foal Branding Ceremony! Mongolian Nomad Life | Views

2019 ж. 17 Қыр.

When the weather becomes colder in autumn, the horse-breeders have a custom to set the mares and foals free of their halter and hobbles and to celebrate the feast of “Foal branding”. For Mongolians horse is not just one kind of livestock, which we’re using as transport or food, it’s something much bigger, and closer. Horses are friends for all life. Thank you to Demberelsambuu & Sambuu's family!

I kinda wish I could go visit Mongolia to meet the horses who live there; maybe I'd bring lots of treats for them since there were tons of them. I take some riding lessons, but... • You do realize that there's other ways of branding that isn't inhumane? And just because it's tradition doesn't make it okay. If you think about how you would feel in their shoes, you would probably be against it. Horses have thinner skin in humans do and more nerves. Now imagine getting held down while a hot metal rod gets firmly pressed onto your skin burning your skin off. And not being able to do anything about. Then having to deal with the Burn for weeks... To be honest it's not mandatory, it's abuse.

    • @@shy5551 The only other way of branding that I've heard of is with dry ice. It makes where ever it goes, the fur white when it grows back. Plus, I already know that branding hurts anybody, that's why I said, "it probably hurts like a thousand bee stings". If you don't have another method of branding, you gotta just use what you got. I never said that I liked the hot iron way that they do it, but if they had the dry ice, they could use that instead.

    • Yes. Animals of smaller sizes are better in the environments with hardship than in advanced countries. They cannot compete against American horses in harder competition, for example, the 100 miles horse race.

    • I am from Vietnam, where the horses are at the size of 400 pounds each. Now I am in Hartford, Connecticut, where a horse weights more than a thousand pounds. That is the reason I pay a lot of attention to the size of the horse.

    • Yes. I know Vietnamese horses very well. In 1974-1975, I was a horse dealers in the North. After Vietnamese Communists from the North took over the South, I went to visit the South several times. I saw the horses there, in HCM city. The horses in HCM city are descendants of the race horses for a very long periods of malnutritions that they ultimately become Vietnamese horses. Their size reduced to 700 - 800 pounds each, as the size of the Mongolian horse. I have not come to Dalat yet. However, I saw Dalat horses on the news, and I read some articles about them. They are tiny horses of 300 - 400 pounds each. There is a government own horse farm in the middle of the country, for making medicine purposes. In general, all horses in Vietnam go to slaughter house any way. The Vietnamese do not retire their horses. All Horses and Dogs are eaten after the time of services. The Vietnamese do not eat young and healthy horses and dogs when they are working. I do not judge the Vietnamese eating horses and doggies. I know Americans kill the horses with the humanity purpose (injured in the race, or exhausted in the run) , kill the retired dogs, and this action is view as inhumanity by the Vietnamese.

    • Please, do not buy horse for weekend ride. You do not have horse track to ride. You do not have a stable to keep your horse. Keeping a horse causes you a lot of trouble rather than pleasures. If you want to ride a horse, you may come to Long-an, where people keep some horses for racing. There is a small race track there, where you can enjoy your ride. You just come to rend a horse for few hours.

  • It's 2019. Freeze-branding is painless and it's been around for several decades now. Hot-branding is primitive and cruel. 👎 Nomads, I know you can do better!

    • Actually its been an quite ehile since Mongolians started using freeze-brading technology. If you see well you can see so many horses evrywhere with white brand which is done by using this technology. However it depends on their owners. The owner decided burn branding or freeze branding and which is better. Sometimes idk why but the whiteness of freeze branding fades and remains there a some kindol of unknown symbol. But if they does burn brand well this will be the never be problem. And freeze branding has advantage too. It is kinda easy to ask from somebody or find a horses as long it is really easy to see the brand from far that is white. It makes the nomads to keep them not losing their horses to robbers and thieves of live stock. Long story short, the owner is the decider that he uses either branding technology. Btw sorry for my bad english i tried to say something. Hope you will undertsand well :>>
