Hi Ed. My thought is that heavy wooden box from the tunnel may be a case for a Bren light machine gun, British made, 1930's...(from Wikipedia) fitted with a bipod, could also be mounted on a tripod or be vehicle -mounted or used as an anti-aircraft gun. It was by general consent the finest light machine gun in the world of its period, and the most useful weapon provided to the (French) maquis (rural guerilla bands of French and Belgian Resistance fighters)...accurate up to 1,000 meters, and (it) could withstand immense maltreatment and unskilled use. "Resistants" were constantly pleading for maximum drops of Brens. 1937 model overall length was 45.5 inches (1.16 m). 1944 model overall length 42.9 inches (1.09m). France: used by the Free French Forces and French Resistance. Vichy France: captured Brens were issued to the Milice (political paramilitary created Jan. 30/1943 by Vichy regime to fight against the French Resistance). Nazi Germany: used captured examples (Brens). Billy may be right that it was used for rifles. Measure the inside of the box. Do you have a military weapons museum that you could ask if they have an weapons specialist? Another interesting video and adventure.
I argee that. It is a weapons box. It looks like it is set up for a single weapon which means it is certainly for a machine gun. Most rifle boxes held more than one weapon (maybe 4 or 6?). Is it possible that it's a box for an American .50 machine gun? The end of the box where the non-barrel end would nest kind of looks like it might be set up to nest the split handles of the .50 cal. Just throwing it out there. Either way, this was fun to watch.
I agree its a gun case .i have servel diff cases .very similar
M1 riffle case.
My guess would be the box of a chatallerault light machine gun as it is very similar to a bren gun create .
@@94batt you can get wooden crates like this to hold a single Lee Enfield rifle
I really love when different chateaux owners help each other.
yeah me too..
Nice to see them take care of each other, as friends and as a community 🤗
Intrepid explorers. Brave!
You should wear helmets with head lamps. It will protect your heads from any falling rocks and low ceilings. Enjoy watching your adventure
hats off to all those who resisted the poison and possibly saved lots of lives. thank you!
Ed - You are a marvel of caving bravery, just charging off in any direction with only the smallest space to maneuver! That kind of exploring is definitely my nightmare!! You have very loyal friends to join you. Thanks for letting us bend and crawl along with you. Just imagine the members of the resistance moving around down there for years!
That was super fun! We were able to enjoy it thanks to the cameraman! 😂👏😍
I thought it was a rifle case too. What an awesome find!! And I didn't know that the Germans didn't like going in the caves. I can see that though. Excellent video! Thank you, gentlemen!!
This was fascinating!!!! Ryan was so chivalrous allowing you to go into the tunnel first while he guarded the trees in case of trouble. Good man Ryan! 🤭🤣. My first thought about that box was that it looked military or contraband guns of some sort. I didn't see a stamp on the side denoting it being military property so then my mind went to contraband. It was so lovely to see three good friends having an adventure! Glad you're all safe and sound.(thanks to Ryan) lol. Can't wait for the next chapter!!! Much love from Utah 💕💕💕
Yes, it looks like a military ammo box
Ryan "follow me lads, I'm right behind you" 🤣🤣🤣. Maybe a rope ladder or some climbing gear would be useful. Great video lads, bring on #2 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Oh gosh, what would Anna say about you guys going in there. I’m going to tell her so you guys don’t use a latter to get down that tunnel. It’s cool, but scary 😂
Watch out for spiders,I just got a bite from a brown recluse and after a month of treatment it still is not well.
You guys will be fine as long as you have brave Ryan watching your back. Crack on!
Nice going, the box used to carry a Heavy Machine Gun. Bludy impressed with the French Resistance.
You all seem like young boys on an adventure! What fun.
All very Enid Blyton, an awfully big adventure. But great fun.
😂
Exactly what I thought, it took me back to being a kid ❤
@@barbaraoshea8639 I immediately thought of The Famous 'Three' Barbara.😂
That was amazing......felt like I was 12 yrs old, reading a famous five adventure book......the suspense is going to kill me. Great entertainment 👌
Mark Twain/Samuel Langhorne Clemens would have written a novel about it, a la Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn💗
So exciting! The way Edd races through the woods and sticks his head into dark holes tells us he a fearless explorer! He does not seem concerned with what critters might be inhabiting the openings, only how he can get inside or at the least get great videos of the tunnels!
I immediately thought some kind of gun box when I saw it. Great vlog. Please tell Ed and Ryan they need some head protection when going the tunnels. Thanks for the wonderful content you provide.💗
That was awesome! You 3 are very brave and clearly not claustrophobic !
It was awfully generous of the resistance leaders to leave a camera behind to capture the first time you entered the tunnels.
Laugh out loudLaugh out loud.
Finding the “badger hole” was an acting master class boys…brilliant video…great collaboration by 3 vloggers
Grown men are always boys at heart when it comes to exploring! Absolutely fun adventure!
So much fun
your chateau is magical - thank you so much for sharing it with us.
Edd my love, I love exploring the tunnels with you guys. It’s amazing the amount of underground tunnels you have on your property. Take care and stay safe my loves❤️🕊🇺🇸🌹🌈😇🌞🎈👍🙏🍺
Safety first. I would recommend it being blocked off securely from curious kids. Especially now you have posted the vlog!!
Loved this adventure, you three made it interesting….was sad it ended. Can’t wait for the next video…well done boys!
Sensational, adventure! Anticipation builds....... for part 2 I got a virtual work out watching this vlog. Heart rate up, weaving and diving the low ceiling. "Crack On" Chaps! Yall should do more collaborations! Awesome teamwork! 🤩
It's good to see you and Ryan spending time together. ♥️👍
Hello Edd..Bren gun drop box from the many parachute supply arms drops.
Gentlemen, I reckon the wooden box is NOT a rifle box, since military rifles were stored and shipped in larger crates, around 3-5 rifles per crate. I suspect the box was for a British, French, American, or German light automatic weapon (LAW). It may even be possible the box was made for a man-portable anti-tank weapon. LAWs used during the Second World War include: -- British: (1) Bren light machine gun; (2) Besal (Faulkner) light machine gun; or (3) Lewis light machine gun -- French: (1) FM 24/29 light machine gun; (2) Chatellerault Model 1929 (modele 1924/29) light machine gun; or (3) M1915 CSRG “Chauchat” light machine gun -- American: (1) Browning Automatic Rifle; or (2) Browning M1919A6 light machine gun -- German: (1) MG 13 light machine gun; or (2) MG 08 light machine gun. [Note: The box appears to be too small for the MG34 or MG42.] Man-portable anti-tank weapons during the Second World War include: -- British: (1) Projector, Infantry, Anti Tank (PIAT) Mk I man-portable anti-tank weapon -- French: not applicable; the French had no man-portable anti-tank weapons -- American: (1) Rocket launcher, M1 "bazooka"; or (2) Rocket launcher, M1A1 "bazooka" -- German: not applicable; the Panzerschreck Raketenpanzerbüchse 54 was too big, and the Panzerfausts were apparently shipped 4 per crate. American weapons were dropped into France by parachute prior to the Normandy Invasion in 1944. The gray paint on the box may help with identification. It might rule out British or American weapons, since they used green. I don't know what color the French used. The Germans used gray, and it's possible some of their discarded LAW boxes were lifted by the Resistance. It's possible the Resistance kept several boxes with rifles hidden in the tunnel, as Edd surmises. That way, the men could walk to the tunnel and back without the need to carry a rifle, thus helping them to pose as ordinary civilians if they ran into a German patrol. You could probably get the box identified at a war museum in Normandy, or you could post some photos of it on a military history forum or militaria forum.
Wow! That's amazing information!! I love it and how they can identify the box!
Amazing information! I hope that the trio will be able to find out exactly what weapon the box was made for. Thank you!
@@judithburke1539 You're welcome!
@@nikishazechiel6848 :)
When you first walked up to that shaft I thought it was chimney size. But when you climbed up on it, my perspective changed. Wow, it's huge! And it makes you think why it's there? There had to be a reason for humans to build it. It's like that whole area was a town of some sort at one time. All the tunnels and the chimney's look like a living area for human. As you walk through the woods, I can see shapes that look man made, but are all covered up by weeds and growth. I wonder if there was a village right there. I really enjoyed the whole episode. You have so much history there at your family Chateau. That is so important, to know where you live.
The boys and their wonderful explorations!!! And their toys!😆
Always a beautiful video and enjoy watching friends being together.
The tunnels look like they were originally a stone quarry, probably stone used to build the chateau.
Ed, Only when you climbed up to this chimney-structure I realized how enormous this is! To walk the forest..., discover Holes, Entrances, Tunnels, 'the Undergrounds'.....! How very exiting ! I agree with Billy, Riflebox this is. Shurely you Guys found YOUR Man-Cave!
those tunnels found their existence from excavating the "marne" blocks to build housing.
The 'rifle box' is either for three rifles or a two man machine gun on a tripod mount.
Thought the same.
The 3 Musketeers... Can't wait to see more of the tunnels! 😁
My thought was a gun chest too xx how exciting xx
That was fun,I thought munitions for the box.Great filming Billy.
Edd, Ryan, & Billy. Great job producing this video. Looking forward to part two.
Yay they were the resistance tunnels, I wondered if the Germans got there during the war from the video the other day !! That box looks like either a gun box or an artillery box used to carry munitions.
These are such a treat. Ed you’re like a terrier - of energy and drive
So glad to see you all reunited on an adventure.Ed you were in your element exploring the caves having fun.really enjoyed seeing y'all together.
Very interesting! Brave hearts!
Blooming glad you didn’t get the lader out! Don’t think my heart could have taken it! 😮
Fascinating 👍
It was so good to see Edd and his brother, Ryan, together again 😁
😂…. Please don’t - it will start again!!!
The three intrepid band of brothers! That was cool guys!
Loved it
That was so interesting. Cannot wait for next installment.
This was totally enthralling. You were like the 3 musketeers, lol. I thought at first sight that box was a rifle box or for some kind of artillery. Cant wait for part 2. Filming was great as was the content. Keep up the good work.
If that were my property, I'd be all over it with a metal detector looking for treasures from the past. So happy to see you were prepared with something to monitor oxygen. Safety first!
@16:42 the box looks like a military style gun or ammunition box.
Just imagine the members of the resistance moving around down there and that was quiet a find. Love it when all of you get together exploring, Ryan, Billy, Yourself and others always a treat to watch what you guys are up to. Have a lovely day.
I like how the Road department built that wall with waterproof hydraulics cement to keep water out of the road patch. Nice work. The road can now be washed out by flooding from below!
The box could have been where they stored rifles and ammunition. Look for bullets. Oh how I hope you find a lot of answers to many questions. I would love to explore those caves. Please keep us up to date. This is very interesting. Love you and Anna. Charles and little Emma. You have a beautiful wife and children. Keep them and you safe.
When you broke through the wall it would have been fun if there was Stephanie and Philip hosting a cocktail party on the other side
That was AWESOME! It took me back to being a kid discovering parts of the Underground Railroad in upstate NEW York!
Thankyou so much for sharing another wonderful vlog. Layers of history surround your land, I would definitely explore especially if I had an “Indiana Edd”to lead the way😉😘😘😘
Nice vlog lovely adventure for you all some fun for you guys
I love watching Ed's mind working. Be safe please. Blessings
Lime stone quarrying
That was so exciting! thanks for sharing your adventure!
So cool!
Fascinating vlog. You are so quick moving and get through very tight spots easily. Ryan is so tall that it’s more difficult. Can’t wait to see the follow up.
At 17:00 is a shipping crate for Lee Enfield rifles. Left over from the war.
If you could get Billy to invest in Ground Penetrating Radar.... I could see a whole new line of videos being produced
The famous 5 go spelunking minus the dog 😅
How exciting! Thank you for letting us join you on this adventure!
@Bordeaux Life your crate looks like a WWII rifle crate, with room for a couple of rifles, boxes for scope, and other accessories. It would be cool to restore it.
❤ Highly addictive! I’ll be waiting for the next one. You are fun and I wish I could be there. Glad to see you were taking it safely.
You guys should get adopt some beavers and put them in that pond for the preservation of your property. They are essential for ecology.
You guys are brilliant! Wonderful explore! Thanks for sharing, take really good care of yourselves, stay safe! 💖
What a fun daring exploring adventure. I laughed out loud so many times (The faces Ryan was making) and was even nervous for a couple moments. Great Vlog.
Very interesting vlog Edd. I thought immediately that box would hold a rifle or rifles!
Sharon Davies I thought the same.
Lol! That was amazing! I caught it Ed! I had to back it up and listen. You guys are so much fun!
Nice adventure. Might be a bazooka (anti-tank weapon) box...
VERY FUN VIDEO!! I AGREE THAT IT WAS A GUN BOX!!
Oh cool 😎
WOW🤗 what an adventure lucky Ed, Ryan and Villy are not claustrophobic😱🇦🇺 thank you for sharing
What a great mystery to solve. I can't wait to see what else you discover.
You certainly pulled out all the stops to bring us a very intriguing vlog! Well done...and thank you!
@Tannis Slimmon Maybe some Adventure Material like this would make a great ballad about the Heroes Exploits😁!
I love me a good adventure. Discovering the unknowns, uncovering the history as you go.
How exciting...I think ammunition box I will say I'm claustrophobic and was a bit concerned about you down there 🙂
Artillery box- rifle box
That was very interesting. I really enjoyed that.
Drone footage at beginning was magical.
I’m claustrophobic and no way could I crawl around down there. You guys are heroes! Just imagine those poor, brave resistance men and woman living there and trying to save their country from the Bosch 👏🏻
Have been a subscriber of all three of you for some time. Totally enjoyed this wonderful adventure - can hardly wait for the next installment. Big hugs.
Great fun…can’t wait for round two !
That's so cool to have on your property. Great job guys
That looked like a ton of fun, being with you in your adventure. You three work together really well. I look forward to the next adventure.
That box looks very similar to the 8.8cm flak gun ammo crate.
This gave me a lot of anxiety!!!😳 Very claustrophobic!!!!
Fascinating. It would be so interesting if you were able to find out the history behind the tunnels. Thanks for sharing.
Can't wait for part 2..
This is better than some Discovery productions. I love how authentic this is.
Rifle box as Billy said. Its Long enough and a great way to hide weapons
Love the caves so fascinating 🥰
Edd, I agree the box looks like it housed a gun. This is very interesting. You guys are brave to get in those caves. Look forward to more.
I love exploration, it's scary, yet exciting! I really enjoyed today's vlog, love watching you all!
Modern day explorers! You three make a great team!
