Yep. Connery was initially portrayed as stupid like other celebs, but evolved into a figure who knows the correct responses but wants to make Trebek's life miserable.

His impression is pure garbage. Didn't get anything of the voice or mannerisms of Trebek. The premise that they are dumb wears thin real fast.

You can clearly see Sean growing slowly darker in this one, Later to become Trebek's arch nemesis.
This was the first Celebrity Jeopardy! sketch without Norm Macdonald, and Darrell Hammond had been in the first three sketches as Sean Connery, Phil Donahue and John Travolta. It was decided to revive his Connery character and have him start trolling Will Ferrell's Alex Trebek, and the rest was history.
I'm having a "Celebrity Jeopardy" with Sean Connery marathon. RIP the big guy. We'll miss him. And also Trebek's mother...

Norm was the one who originally came up with the idea to parody Celebrity Jeopardy, without him we wouldn't have one of the funniest reoccurring sketches on SNL. RIP, Turd Ferguson!
There's actually an interview where they talk about this sketch actually being stolen from SCTV, but they had on the comedian from SCTV who came up with it and he gave them permission to do a duplicate.

The "contestants" would answer the questions before he finished, would ring their buzzer and say they didn't and other stuff, p*ssing "Trebek" off and disqualifying everyone. It was a pretty funny sketch, much more innocent than SNL though.

David Duchovny as Jeff Goldblum is the comedy treasure trove I never knew I needed.
This skit improved immensely with the passage of time. At the end, Darrell Hammond was nailing it.
