Well when you are potentially on the menu (even if we're just talking large predator's) you must have a very keen sense of hearing, smell, sight, or a powerful combination of them! Willie's ancestors evolved over millions of years on the savannah's and deserts to have the best shot of survival in the wild, by battling daily with everything from large cats, to dehydration

Those ears, that taste-scent sensitivity, those snorts, if that was a mountain cat(i'm guessing it was) then it won't come much closer, if the other two were free of their enclosure then I doubt even a bear would stand a chance. Donkeys when well cared for and strong are powerfully fierce and will not hesitate to protect their home. I know a farmer who keeps fowl and pigs, he sells the eggs and meat and that's his living, he laughed at getting donkeys thinking they were labour animals not good at anything but hauling goods in poor countries, after 6 months of owning 2 donkeys he saw no kills, no stressed birds, no property marking, his animals are protected by kind gentle and protective beasts where one kick will crush even a large cat skull. I doubt a lion can withstand a direct hit by a strong donkey... well a couple of kicks any way. He used to have geese who took care of foxes and other small egg eaters and nuisances, they were very territorial but still prey to the cats, now he has the donkeys and has never looked back.

My mammoth does the same and it usually means a coyote is getting close and of course she would take care if it. She will also go after dogs that are not ours, neighbor dogs learned by experience. Last night she must have been particularly irritable (she's in heat) cuz just as soon as the coyotes started yapping she ran to the fence loudly braying and snorting. They shut up and left pronto.
@farmwife79446 жыл бұрын
Safe to say a Mammoth, as big as they are, coupled with the donkey's intelligence, can make short work in killing a coyote or even a wolf, yes? I actually admire the fact that unlike most wildly flailing horse kicks, a donkey knows HOW to line up their rear kicks, as a weapon, so a good kick by any Mammoth donkey that hits any canine is potentially very lethal for that predator...and I bet those predators learn REAL quick to stay away.

I was around live stock for about14 years of my younger life. My grandparents had cattle and several fruit trees and a large garden and when we finally moved into our own house in 6th grade, we had two horses, 3 dogs a cat and 84 chickens. My job...in addition to the rest was to feed and break ice, water, muck, gather eggs, pick up dog poo, shovel the drive, split fire wood, sell eggs and for some extra cash i would buck hay, pick rocks, move sprinkler lines, pick cherries and apples. Then I turned 14 and got 25 hour a week job so I got to knock of 3 of those things. Oh and went to highschool. I think i was the only one in USMC boot that never cried. I looked at my buddie and said...." well shit...my step brothers arn't throwing out of a car at 20 mph or shooting at my feet when we're done plinken'. This is easy. "

She frequently got me out of bed at all hours to investigate when a multiple snort event took place. Once a young coyote got into her paddock and I had to rescue it. The pup was frantically running back and forth across the paddock and would bounce off the outer chain link fence over and over. I had to herd it toward the open gate, no easy task with a terrified youngster. Twister was snorting the entire time.

Any predator would be insane to try anything around this guy. He's such a good boy! 😊
Horses don't like bears. I don't know about donkeys.
@@MikeJones-rk1un donkeys, or mules are known to have killed mountain lions. Bears might be a different story though
Lol . Ever fuck with a donkey !! They destory hyenas ! horse run away . A donkey will fight till the end ! Kick / wrestle / bite the shit outof the predator 😂😂😂😂
You could see it in Willie's eyes. "If you mess with me or mine, I'm going all out." That snort was a very clear warning.
The love that’s involved in talking care of any living being is beautiful.
Thomas your comment should win an award of some kind. I love it. Thank you 🙏🏻
@@raydraiz1859 Tell me about it. I have two dogs and twelve cats. 😁
My Dachshund is a Proctologist.
I just loved what you just wrote thank you ❤
Thats so erie. I love donkeys they go from being cute to protective in a split second
Hes getting ready to dance on the graves of his enemies Takes all his concentration, Sherlock Holmes be slipping in comparison XD
If somebody asked me what a donkey sounds like, I would not have guessed that noise. It sounds like somebody revving up a chevy
Nothing like a donkey
Really smart donkey! I'm sure the family is glad to have him! Willy must have a family that is so proud. He earns his room and board quite nicely.
Donkeys are also masters of dance and the lessons are usually "free" But you have to provide a random canine, and then whiteness the Donkey begin to salsa dance on its ragdoll. Might scar you mentally, but it was free XD
Apparently my dogs who are listening, and watching this video think there's something out there too! They along with the donkey are making warning noises. It's pretty amazing!
Well id imagine animals especially wild dogs speak in more then 1 traditional way Its possible they where speaking on a higher frequency, which most animals cant hear. But Donkeys are Flack AA cannons for canines XD so they can probably hear it, like your dogs can
Incredible!!
@@donovanulrich348 yes, excellent hearing; dogs also speak body language & Willy’s was loud and clear!
Same
Not. Dogs don’t respond to videos. Quit lying.
Long time ago I suffered loss of livestock due to some wolfs.A neighbour suggested donkeys as lifeguards for the cattle and the sheep...First I laughed but these 3 donkeys did a fantastic job. From a far I watched them defend a cow with her two calfs....I saw wolfs getting kicked like you would not believe....
2233golf2 thats happen when people who dont know anything start doing something
they use ostriches to protect from cougars on Vancouver Island, one kick dead quite mean to anyone they dont know, animals, people too.
Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin Depends,Ive seen 2-3 Kangol(sp?) dogs torn to bits by a pack of wolves, pretty sad.
Fixt100 Yes, was completely stunned when I saw an ostrich stomp and kill a wild dog. There is no doubt they are descended from raptors.
There’s a great video of a mule kicking a cougars butt. They are tough creatures in the mind and body
I couldn't believe the sounds he was making. At first I thought it was someone racing a big engine nearby. Then I saw Willy's stomach contract along with the sounds and said "my God those sounds are coming out of him". Never knew a donkey could make such a sound.
I'm sure the roof creates an echo, too - but that would only help the end result.
Sounds kinda like a deer. But bigger.
@@meredithr9824 deer sound like a child with asthma after the 100m run at shcool
Hope he has a enclosed space to get into, that ain't nothing but a freezer
That is an engine, its going the whole way through the video.
Says to Donkey Willie: "Ok, I gotta finish feeding...hold down the fort!" 😂I love this!
I bet he can too. I doubt there's any animal outside of grizzlies in the continental US that can take out a massive donkey
Those booming snorts coming from him startled me. Predators must run scared when they hear that!
Man you got that right! 😳
Must be the warm up for a big loud bray, only he was gonna wait and stay stick still with those ears up. He can hear and smell the predator I’ll bet.
I thought it was a gun
Annika Heydl, just imagine. A smaller-ish or medium sized predator confronted by an enraged donkey. Those vocalistic, ear blasting calls of alarm, mixed with pounding hoofs, or alert attention. You had better not even try to mess with my herd.
@@jsmomx8 i thought it was a damn bike lol
Donkeys make the best guard dogs! Nothing sneaks up on them and they’re quick to let you know when something’s not right.
I wonder why your pooch wasn't also 'queuing in' on what the donkey saw..?
there mexican heritage :3
Grizzlies are good at hunting, coming from upwind, and they can be silent with their large paws. And fast. They can sneak up on dogs as well.
+Sheila Karch Might be a good replacement for a guard dog in the city. At least the cops would hesitate before shooting it.
No really tho Donkeys are bad asses They arent the strongest, but they have the strength of a hourse and the mind set of a honey badger They dance on the bodies of slain canine's XD Savage Im a canine lover and still have respect for this getto horse with attitude XD
These guys are awesome! Lots of respect for the donkey, fierce protectors!
My goodness what a beautiful place, you've been blessed
Willy and his comrades look absolutely beautiful and very well taken care of!!! HAPPY ANIMALS..
that's a brave animal, high five Willy
A kick to the head from a horse, mule or donkey is deadly!! One even glancing blow will turn the lights out permanently!!
it depends how big bear will be
Love the fresh snow on the trees. Thanks for taking such good care of your livestock. it really is rewarding when they love up on ya I think. Nothing beats that, all of your work comes to fruition.
@@mikes3827 horses are dead on accurate when they want to be. I see them kick alot of Animals and people right in the head, one swift kick that you don't even see coming lol.
Love the open design of the barn and the sand on the ground, must be nice to hang out there
Its not much for you But that Donkey loves the Echo No one wants to challange a donkey, but even humans turn down a v-8 in a foot race XD
not protected from cold winds ! 🤔
I LOVE donkeys. They're so smart and have great senses of humor. Plus they're great guards
The title was funny until I realised the donkeys name was willy
floyd schott if you call having a sense of humour fucked up then I guess I'm fucked up
Scott, I thought the same. Just had to click watch the vid to see what was going on. Ignore Floyd, he doesn't get out much.
Shoot McRunfast lol yes some people have had a humour bypass how could you not look twice at that title
Scott, I think we can both agree its an epic title for the wrong reasons
thought exactly the same
I Luv donkeys and burros. They're so precious and, apparently, brave too!!👍😍🌞
Willy sounds more like a supercharged drag racer at the starting line!
Mostly him Some Echo But yeah, dont fuck with a Donkey XD Mini horse, sure But ten times the rage, with the same power
That is really amazing. I wonder what was out there. I have two guard CATS. They hear things way before I do. They know when someone is headed for my front door and alert me. Their ears go straight up and just like your donkey they don't move until the person or dog/cat is gone. It is very nice to have guard cats.
That was so cool to see and he means nothing but business. Love your babies
If you have a wild/untamed domestic animal problem Get a donkey Cuz you never have to reload a Donkey, them boys is always on go XD
He’s happy so he’s very protective of his home Donkeys are Awesome
Excellent display of warning and challenging! you would be protected, if he stomped his feet he would be ready to charge whatever it is and you can be sure it was something! Good donk!!!!
Lee Fifield my mammoth jennet does the same. She keeps us all safe.
Yeppers. After all that I definitely would've took the dog, my 44 magnum AND a good 'whompin' stick and went to look for tracks. Not knowing what it was COULD be a terrible mistake when our precious animals are concerned... :(
raster 701 damn right AMERICANS🔫🇺🇸
lol my thought exactly

Those big ears are working overtime! What a big beautiful boy. Not forgetting the other two beauties. Xxx
A friend of mine has her two donkeys out with the cattle and when the cows are having their calves, they chase the coyotes away. They have killed a couple of coyotes that got too bold.
And dance on their bodies no doubt XD I love canines, but still respect those getto horses with attitude XD Horse + Honey Badger = Donkey XD And the math check out better then half the scientific community XDDD
Donkeys are known for their intense hatred of anything canine.
that is a great video. I love the shed / roof - its huge. Also good to see how protective the donkey is
The feral donkeys we saw on the Hualapai Indian reservation at the bottom of the Grand Canyon were very cool looking but you would not want to get out of your car near them. They looked extremely strong and compact.
Plenty of warnings signs about them ... The can be very dangerous
My donkey makes the same sound at predators. An intense snort with almost a roar.
oh and in that time...many neighbors had donkeys. They also dig up noxious weeds to keep your livestock healthy !!! Amazing animals.
Wow thats amazing. Its cool to see how the arena made his noises even more taunting.
YEEEEES WILLY!!! giving us full on Security Mule vibes all the while being extra cute & adorable !!
I love when Randy answers her, "Hi."
I remember growing up once, we had a newer horse who for whatever reason snuck up and nipped my little sister. The donkey came and head butted the horse in the side so hard it almost fell over and stumbled. That never happened again to any of us.
Hopefully these animals have a walled enclosure to stay in when they want to. Imagine having to stay outdoors and constantly in the shade during that weather.
I think they stay willingly there But they have a barn if a storm comes to hurd them to safely That Donkey isent going away from his friends and food, hes gonna fuck up what ever thinks twice tho
I was worried about shelter too!
Imagine not being ignorant and try to understand owning livestock. 🤡
@@endlessmountainoutdoors Well get out there and learn some things. It won't hurt you.
@@stickermigtigger 😉 I shouldn’t have edited dumbass out of my comment.
Great video! I love to see people that are in tune with their surroundings .... and you didn't miss a thing!
Awesome Willie...good job.. the echoes and reverberations coming back off that roof must really put some genuine fear into predators looking for a meal. Do they protect against 2-legged intruders as well?
wow love that covered area.
@chanctonbury63 That's exactly my thought. Not even a withers-high wind break.
@chanctonbury63 with barnyard animals, it's not good for them if there's no air flow, they can catch pneumonia that way. I think a good solution for the cold would be to stack up straw bales to protect from wind gusts
I'm so glad I watched this. It gave me a sense of peace and just being.
All I could think of was Sasquatch hehe. Pretty sharp eyes he must have, as I doubt it's a false alarm. WTG Willy!
Probably a fox, wolf or coyote Donkeys have like 6 extra senses when it cones to locating and destroying canines XD Not a sixth sense 6 extra senses Im a canine lover and just respect facts, Donkeys are bad asses XD
When he went on alert... The clicking sounds made me think it was the actual Predator. But then I remember those only show up during the hottest years, and then the crow gave a full "caw"
Best security I ever had was a big Clyde cross. He kept dogs, coyotes and people off the property.
tonedog77 I believe he was crossed with a Morgan. I have seen a Clyde/mule cross. Strangest looking horse ever and huge.

A Mammoth Donkey Willy means only one thing where I come from 🤣
Beautiful landscape.
Great animals. So friendly and affectionate.
My monkey brain was in full panic mode with how still he was, how focused he was.
Cuz anyone with something to defend Is the real predator Wile anyone weak enough to try to snatch it, is actually prey Look at human history, the bloodiest encounters happen defending the homeland or civil independency
Donkeys are great guard animals for pastures they will go after predators
They will fight anything smaller then a horse if it steps wrong And anything bigger if its aggressive XD Donkeys are humans with nepolian complexes
I love how perceptive they are! I love donkeys!!! I want one when I move to the rural area.
he hears or senses something...hes fixed on it
See when humans pull a Donkey and fix a problem quickly They get labeled a terrist, you think Britain sees Washington as a hero??
I love the fact there were no music , so we here the real sound of nature only for that i would give like
He's ready to do some serious fighting!
Willy: Get off my farm yesterday!!! Potential predator: yea okay I gotcha
He has definitely been suped up! His intake sounds pretty awesome.
😂😂 Yeah we added a duel intake, and bored the cylinders, reset the timing gears, new trim on the hooves Hes a new Donkey XD
That is one nice shelter for Willie and his friends.
Loved hearing the ravens cawing!
I knew that a donkeys ears can sense danger but, not their mammoth willy's.
MegaFloyd100 That's because the willy is from an actual mammoth that was in permafrost for 20,000 years and was more or less sewn on with monofiliment line. They don't sense anything at all, they just assist in the donkey spinning around, loudly knocking the crap out of everything in sight.
Willy is great. Love to have one some day !
I thought this was going to be a video of a mammoth donkey willy. Not that I'm into that kind of thing, I was just curious about how it would go about warning of predators. Maybe slapping the ground like a beaver tail? My mind wanders too much...

Wonderful animals. Ive never seen a multi color donkey like the light brown and white one you have. Very cute.
Lol there is loads of pinto sported ones

Donkeys may be stubborn, but they are smart as hell and strong as a mad bull!
I was never lucky enough to have a donkey but my mule would sound the coyote alarm almost every night. They used the easement between me and my neighbors home as a coyote freeway.
LOVE YOU ! No rest for the wicked .. And even less for the righteous ! LOVE YOU and your Kind Soul..
Donkeys are both alarms and they will fight--and fight well.
What a Handsome boy!!
I always called them long eared ponys when I was young. They're amazing. Donkey sounded like a truck reving its engine. Lol
It would be nice to see these donkeys have more of protective enclosure.
Put on a heavy fur coat sometime a see how cold you feel !
Im 1000% sure they have a legit enclosure if a storm comes Blizzard or flood warnings But other then that, why? No cage, wheres the Donkey? Oh right, waiting for his food
I was concerned about the donkeys out there
I love the open sided massive shelter afforded to these precious animals. God bless. It's winter here in northern Utah and thinking of my boarded 19 yr young gelding Paint with minimal shelter. Boarding facility accommodates well. If I had my druthers, your facility arrangement is the kind!! Greetings from Utah!
NO Shelter from the wind ? ... I would NEED a few walls.. we have snow.. sometimes deep snow.. maybe a roof ? and door too ? I think that's called a Barn ?? Lol.
Horses and donkeys are good predator deterrents. My mothers Morgan stallion would chase off bears and wolves from the herd. Never had to shoot anything with him around.
Horses are good in a herd/pride But Donkeys will preform Solo or in group effort If its canine its dead, and anything smaller then a horse needs to bow out now XD
That dude is fearless.
I think hollywood got the reload a shotgun for intimidation, From watching Donkeys and be like "what noise could a person make to sound intimidating before shooting" cuz you dont load a shell like that XD first one goes in the chamber usually
