James is here to check out the new OnePlus Buds Pro 2 wireless earbuds to see if OnePlus has skimped out on features with the new lower price tag or if they were able to fit everything you need in a slick (and nicely coloured) case.

UPDATE: It looks like the pricing has been increased to $179.99 USD instead of the $130 USD we believed it was going to be at the time of filming. At closer to $200, the competition is a LOT stiffer so these are harder to recommend. Who do you think deserves your money at that price point? Do you use wireless earbuds? Would you replace them with the OnePlus Buds Pro 2? Let us know down below! i hae a pair of anker soundcore space a40's. i like them but the recent anker stuff makes me want to move to a different brand. just wandering how these oneplus buds compare to the space a40's as i know they were reviewed on shortcircuit as well (is why i bought them) i use transparancy mode a lot at work so if these have better transparency, i may consider them
no. any earphone that are not like the apple ones are an auromatic no buy. i hate the silicone tips so much and they are very uncomfortable. and i don't use airpods because i don't have an iphone and will miss out on all the features.
I use wireless earbuds, ya, and no. I won't replace them. I've been using the sony xm4s for a year or so.. still really like them. Wish the multipair feature was ready, but w/e. They are good for what they are. Overall, I'm just surprised that I don't hate wireless buds. I'm a bit picky with sound quality.
Why not test them on an iPhone?
@@Bigdoggy12 Iphone in 2023 OMEGALUL
That $130 price is only if you buy it from their app in the US. The website says $179, same as the European price in euros.
@@CsabaJozoI think they want to promote their OnePlus Store app, it also works with a point system to lure people buying their products.
They're 200,09$ USD (269,99CAD) on their website *mindblown* far from 130$ lol
@@CsabaJozo Because F anyone outside the US as always with currencies. They just take USD and change to pounds or euro. "its all the same shit anyway"
Also something to note is that there are 2 models,Buds Pro 2 and Buds Pro 2R. The Buds Pro 2R costs a little bit cheaper while lacking a few features like wireless charging and head tracking spatial audio (still has the normal spatial audio).
@@ahsan.v8 Can't find it on the Chinese or Indian website of OnePlus though. Only the OnePlus Buds Pro 2.
the camera remote could be useful, especially if it works without wearing the airbud, as you can essentially just use it for a remote if you are taking pictures of yourself etc.
I get that you need to fit the tech somewhere, but it’s funny how Apple’s weird design decisions eventually spread to everyone else.
It's more that the excessive need to copy apple is stopping them to really innovate, Samsung buds since first gen pros have had volume change by tapping on the side which even works if you tap near your ear instead of on them, works flawlessly everytime
the stem design is something apple got right imo, it’s much more comfortable to squeeze a stem than to jam a typical TWS shaped bud further into your ear with every tap. the OG airpods with their long-ass stems still look ridiculous tho.
To me, it feels like the stem design works best for resting on a pillow. Though, being able to turn off the controls from the earbuds is key.
@@ManuSaraswat Only issue with that is you keep adjusting the volume every time you have to adjust your earbuds, so I eventually just disabled that in settings. Buds plus were by far the best headphones they ever made though
Can't see that in Jabra TWS earphones.
These are an improvement over the 1st gen buds. kzhead.infoUgkxK5mc3yw4xA7Mf2j6k6n1Uqv_KUgrKdeM Pros: The fit is fantastic. This is the biggest plus. They stay in my ears when running and become unnoticeable. They are tight but comfortable. The sound quality is about the same as the 1st gen buds. They pair more easily with my LG G8 ThinQ and immediately reconnect when removed from the case. The sound balance is excellent, good but not overpowering base and clean mid tones and highs.Cons: The noise cancellation is good but perhaps a little less effective than the Bose ANC on the 1st gen buds. Passthrough mode as not as good as the 1st gen buds making it a little more difficult to hear conversations when in passthrough.
I would argue that the sound quality for 2nd gen is in a different league to the gen 1 buds. The dual driver setup means that they have the best separation for any in-ear true wireless headphones IMHO. At least in terms of separation, they beat out much more expensive options from the likes of Bang & Olufsen, Sennheiser etc. Clarity/resolution wise it isn't anything special, but still pretty good for the price. But overall, I find myself picking up more details on these (buds pro 2) than my more expensive TW buds. Honestly the separation is almost on par with "premium" large headphones with 40mm+ drivers. On a separate point, the noise cancelling isn't helped (on either model) by the fact that OnePlus only offers silicone tips, which doesn't really provide a passive seal. If you switch them out for decent foam tips the noise cancelling is actually really good.
My og Buds Pro are by far the best IEM's I've ever owned. Especially when I bought them new from OnePlus directly for €109. They look, interact, and functional all the same and they sound fantastic. I feel the only difference is the 2nd driver. The only issue I feel is occasionally the buds won't make contact with the charging pins, so you could come back to them and they're not charged even though the case is full. That and transparency defaulting on when you only use 1 bud is annoying (regardless of setting), but beyond those 2 issues, they're absolutely fantastic. I have also dropped the case and buds into a fairly deep puddle and they're still working just fine
I have the buds pro 1 and the dual connection works great between my phone and computer. It does take it a few seconds from pausing on the 1st device to switching to the next.
the buds pro 1 are really good tbh and dual connection works great, but my problem with them is that they don't detect the ear properly, so the transparency mode turns on in one ear and it's really annoying
I wanna get these buds for the 1+11 but am also gonna use em with the samsung tab s9 (when it releases). Do you think it’ll work fone with the tab s9 as well?
Zen mode would be handy to avoid overwhelming sensory experience. Especially for the neuro diverse.
Dyna Audio is making one of the most respected studio monitors. I hope the sound is good on these buds. Bold is probably natural, Serenade is acoustic and bass is for EDM heads.
mf just said "Bold is probably natural, Serenade is acoustic" as if that makes any sense whatsoever lmfao
I have Dynaudio in my Volkswagen Golf R and it’s the best premium sound system I’ve ever heard in a car. They make really good speakers
You can use dual connection and works as expected, but you need to enable it in the settings
The dual connexion work perfectly with the buds pro 1, but it needed an update out of the box. This is mandatory for me since i got both my laptop and my phone paired to it, for work purpose.
Works great on the bullets too
Take photos with the airbud is for using the airbud as a remote in your hand when taking pictures with a selfie stick or a tripod
I just finished watching a few videos of James doing earbud videos and felt I need more of James + earbuds in my system. All is well in the world now.
Wouldn't have pegged you as a NIN fan. Love it. Only seen them live once.
4:38 woah I love the zen mode! Especially that it works without the phone! And btw, you want the zen mode when you CAN'T go outside :) some of us need a quick break at work, while waiting for a doctor, or when I need a break in a server room under ground. I see potential in this, but I guess people will underappreciate this very humane feature.
One thing I'd love to see for earbuds is runtime (without recharging with the case), ideally with ANC on but no audio playing. I'm looking for a set of ANC earbuds to sleep with and it's hard to find useful info for that.
That's such an oddly specific and weird use case, who would ever quote that for the 3 people in the universe who do that weird shit
The dual player feature seemed to work for all others who reviewed the ear buds. What do you think that means?
On my Soundcore buds you have to choose either LDAC or dual connection, never both. But it warns you in the app.
This is a limitation of the Bluetooth standard. There isn't enough bandwidth for 2 ldac connections
Hey if you were to choose between jbl live pro 2, one plus pro 2 and Sony link buds s what would you go for ? Also I am an iOS user don’t think that would make much of a difference but still :)
Cool if you can use the camera feature with the bud just in your hand.
I think thats the point lol. Just acts as a remote. Not sure how he didn't realize that 😂
Cool Video, I was deciding between the nothing earbuds 2 and this one. Really love the look, will also go for the green ones. Having a Oneplus Smartphone was also a liitle point for the Pro2. Thank you for the video!
Dual pairing works flawlessly in my 10 dollar earphones, either you connect with two phones, or a phone and a laptop... The sound never comes frm the phone, there is like a 5s gap between playback..
I have to say, did you enable the dual connection from the app
I think Zen mode is awesome more earbuds should have it. There are times that I wanna put on my earbuds so I don't hear coworkers but also don't really wanna listen to anything and lose my focus or have to deal with the phone to find something zen to play.
Like you use NIN for test audio. That and Ministry is the bands I like to crank up with the buds.
For me the dual connection is working perfectly! No issues faced yet.
The taking a photo with the earbuds is probably for group photos when you set the phone somewhere then use the earbuds to trigger the shutter. It's obviously not for taking selfies.
The multi-pair feature is the one most important for me, don't discount it. There are certainly more people with work laptop and personal phone, juggling between meetings and music. Thanks for review though!
How's the pairing process for the iPhone?
The first gen are so sick. Love them!
hey man, can you activate the basic features without the app? I want to buy one to use on windows 11 for team calls etc. and I need the noise cancellation
james compared the sound quality using hi res mode but the source file is not hi res or even lossless, it has nk difference in quality then.
I had been waiting for a review of the Samsung buds 2 pro on here but I found some other audiophiles reivews and other peoples reviews that talk about how much lighter, and just better they were at sound and anc/transparency mode. the only thing they haven't really done anything different with the eq although you can find ways to do that stuff which is always fun....
I have the the Samsung Buds 2 Pros and the audio quality is excellent, the fit though is not excellent. Atleast for me I have a hard time getting a good fit with them and find that they constantly make their way out of my ears. I have heard other people have the same problem with the Buds 2 Pros. Honestly if you are looking for a really nice pair of wireless earbuds with ANC they get the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pros. They're a bit bulky looking in your ears but they fit great and the audio quality is excellent especially since they have a hearing test so it customizes the sound profile to your hearing. And best of all you can get they renewed on Amazon for like $60.00
@@NonLegitNation2 I agree. I love that sound quality coming out of the galaxy buds 2 pros, but the right earbud won't fit in my ear. It's so frustrating since I have to use other buds which lack in the sound department
Looking at the specs I don't really see an huge improvement over the first one. That first one was pretty good!
Agree but my buds had way too many problems..so can't trust them and buy the second generation aswell..
The first one was known for being really bad sounding.....
11:33 dual device works well with soundcore liberty 3's
Hi Res Audio feature on and off sound the same? Maybe because you are listening on Spotify = low res mp3 compressed audio? Could you test audio on something better like Qobuz for example?
wait wasn't LG's Tone Buds the first spatial audio buds? Cos they integrated dolby atmos which is actually impressive
Still using the WF1000XM3 and wanting a replacement since it is too laggy. I daily drive 2 phones and if the dual connection thing works, I would consider it. But apparently none of the earbuds in the market does it properly.
Bose does it perfectly.
dualconnect does work perfectly on my og buds pro
You can hold one earbud in your hand to control the camera presumably. So just use it like a remote
I recently picked up a pair of OP Buds Pro 2 and want to make an important statement because a lot of people have commented on this. As of the 169.169.101 firmware update on the buds, and my OnePlus 9 Pro running Android 13, you can turn in-ear detection on and off. That is all
Can you turn on spatial audio with onelplus 9? or is it only available for op11 or newer?
@@4paapii As far as I can tell, it's limited only to the OP11 and newer. It was supposed to be added to earlier phones to my knowledge but I don't think it's happened yet
actually the dual connection worked for me using the pro 1 (with a oneplus 8 and an Ipad tho)
wait is there frq graph for tonage? How do we know what it sounds like?
Dual connection DOES work. My wife had them over CNY, connected to her iPad and Phone and they switched no problem at all.
Do you have to have the earbuds in to trigger a photo?
Hey! Love the videos! Could you review Valco headphones? They just published a new model which might be interesting.
Does anyone else always play the same song when evaluating a new pair of headphones? My go-to is Africa by Toto, the beginning has great treble and nice vocal mids later in the song with good bass as well.
For the selfie function, you know you can take off your earbud for the picture, right? James?
please add the "bubble-gum-jewing-test" for earphones. my sennheiser tw3 constantly moving out because of that, but no one has tested it :
Sir can you tell me which one is better ONEPLUS BUDS PRO 2 OR ONEPLUS BULLETS NECK BAND?
Spatial audio could be interesting imo for live concert or video conference with multiple users
I feel that "zen mode" would be great for people who have anxiety or panic attack
you have to choose either LDAC or dual connection
the galaxy buds pro have the spatial audio, aka 360 audio but it's only available on the galaxy S21 series or above 😢
I got a pair of BT 5.2 headphones that does two at once, and it pauses the audio from one so you can hear the other. It actually works.
Well. OnePlus used to be known for great software. Now they are known for their horrible software... Not unexpected these doesn't work properly
@OutOfNameIdeas Or James once again messed it up
I was looking out for the mic review on this one :(
damn... another set of buds I want, but can't have because they lack a mute option. I seriously don't understand why none of them have mute. When I am on a call and want to, say order food at a drive through, pulling out and unlocking my phone, opening the app, and pressing mute on screen can be a real hassle. I would rather skip the music controls, or even volume, in favor of mute. A touch/push to talk feature would be cool as well... then we could walk around looking like secret service agents. I had a computer headset with it, and it was kinda nice because people could tell when I was talking on the phone and when I was talking to them.
Just take your earbuds out?
@@brandon_nope that doesn't mute the microphone.
Wt is the 2r version ?
How would this compare to the OnePlus Buds Z2s?
LOVE THE NINE INCH NAILS SHIRT
I do the opposite of a sit up frequently. it's called a Sit Down. and its super easy to do.
Which one plus buds are the best cos I’m looking for one plus buds that have best bass sound that sound like boom boom somebody tell me which ones are best these ones or some different ones?
2:20 what are 2 100W ports used for if you can't even power a toaster with them? they seem kinda useless to me.. 😅😅 at least give us 2000W of constant power with these ports and be able to recharge the battery while the sun is shining do those earplugs are cheap-o silicone, which doesn't seal properly or are they memory foam to use them for a good seal in a factory? do they have 1 shift(8h) worth of battery live in the earplugs and 1 work week(40h) of battery life in/with the case?
beautiful shade of green. i love how tech usually has a green colorway these days. both the op 11 and the galaxy s23 have great greens
Imo the oneplus 11 is very ugly though, don't know why they would design such an obnoxious camera bump, otherwise it looks like a great phone
@@pineapplepizza5733agreed, the camera bump is so massive and sticks out too much imo, esp when compared to the OP10 Pro
Nice noise in the background audio, I like it!
I actually just got these with the OnePlus 10T and they were listed at $125.
Why did they make the model name the same as Samsung's most recent high end buds? Was it intentional to mix up the name image/status?
what's weird about connecting to two different devices is every tws earbud i've seen with this feature has seemed to not work. But my cheap 50 dollar taotronics over ears had it and it just worked, between my phone and my pc. The only issues i had were with windows 10 bluetooth support. thank god i'm not on windows anymore.
Neck band style earphones have this feature very commonly. Im curious why it's such a deal for tws. Very very few tws have multiple device connection support
@@godakartik8110 That makes sense, my guess is it has to do with bandwidth limitations and having to send data between 4 devices and not just two or three. I wouldn´t know though.
Can you guys cover the OnePlus Monitor too please.
Hello, excellent video, but I'm having problems, I can't use LHDC on Samsung's smartphone or Xiaomi, do you have any tips friend? a big hug!
Are the batteries encrypted and unreplacable like their upcoming tablet?
Seeing as I have a OnePlus, I'll have to take advantage of that discount and knab these.
Yeah maby they'll add that later like Jabra added independent usage of left and right airbuds to their elite 75T.. The sole reason i bought them was the advertised feature comming really soon. I emailed them 5 times asking them to release the update and they admitted to shutting the feature down. Never trusting Jabra ever again.
The blinking at 1:47, thank you editor :D
I think u didn't turn on dual connectivity properly
Just a little reminder, for that money one can get a SR850 and a really nice DAC Amp. This combination will absolutely smoke those Bluetooth thingys in sound quality because wireless means inevitably no lossless audio for you...
But you lose literally every convenience factor just for sound
I'm confused on if this is a review or not? If it's not, it would be cool to get a video review on these! I'm looking for new earbuds that are for Android, have the shape of airpods (I don't like the in ear ones), and are fairly decent quality (in regards to audio quality and anc).
LMG only post review on Main LTT Channel. Everything else are not a proper review. Basically OnePlus said "hey LMG we got this phone, earbuds. Can you make a video for them each? You can keep the phone and earbuds"
It's always nice when about half your equaliser settings are MegaMan characters.
The first OnePlus buds have a fatal flaw: you can't turn off in-ear detection. Doesn't sound like much but you won't believe how irritating it is. The in-ear detection isn't the greatest in the first place so it just randomly stops and starts playing on it's own.
Fr
Is spatial audio only for OnePlus 11 or for other OnePlus devices as well?
I would assume it works on other phones with the same Chinese os.
I love that James is wearing a Nine Inch Nails shirt
Why did you not test the microphone?
These earbuds look amazing. However, I purchased a pair of OnePlus Nord buds a while back and they sound incredible for the money. As much as I would love the OnePlus buds Pro 2 I think $180 United States currency is a bit much. Perhaps, if I find them on sale down the road.
Just got them for $100 on the OnePlus store.
@@gdsupreme5040 sounds like a good deal. Still, the ones I purchased a brand new and I'll stick with them.
VIDEO SUGGESTION?. I have a video suggestion, but I am not really sure it falls properly under the Linus Tech Tips Banner?. But it's due to the comment made in this video from the 8:08 mark, where he talks about those Hearing Tests where you sit in the booth and have to press the button every time you think you hear a sound. So my question comes from the fact that I remember doing this for my own job as much as 30-40 years ago and yet it has never changed. But my argument/question has always been that as soon as you put on those "overear" headphones, I swear that you have some kind of head-noise or what I can only describe as a general swooshing sound, that actually makes it harder to tell if you can hear those very very faint frequencies. So my question/suggestion is --- is it worth having one of your audio experts talk about why in all this time - those hearing tests have NEVER BEEN CHANGED/UPDATED to a more modern or accurate system, given the advancements in all other aspects of audio???
You can take them off your ears to take photos. That's a cool feature!
Pretty sure James neglected to actually turn on dual connection-it’s off by default. Works fine for me.
You can't hear a difference with Hi-Res on or off in Spotify that doesn't support Hi-Res audio. Try with Apple music to hear a difference.
No mic test ?
I was considering buying these instead of my 3rd pair of Jabra Elite 85T (I've lost them so many times while being hammered), but eventually I ended up buying the Jabras anyway. I haven't foundation any ear buds that come close to those in terms of enjoying hiphop music.
These should be fine.
Can these be used one at a time? My current pair are completely interchangeable.
Yes
They are 179£ here in the UK?
Do these sound better than pixel buds pro?
You should test earbuds also with other OPPO corp brand phones, I have Realme GT 5G and have also Oneplus phone exclusive features available like LDHC codec, dolby sorround etc. from last years earbuds.
Same thing. Even the same os. OnePlus got rid of their loved os to save money quite a while ago.
$130 through the oneplus app and even cheaper if you buy the CN version through aliexpress and don't mind waiting a few weeks
Suprised that the dual connect feature didnt work on these, on my jbl earbuds the dualconnect works like a dream.
Its like Oppo Enco X2, by dynaaudio as well
Hello can you review the earfun free pro 3 please thanks
Did they just try to test hi res audio while listening to Spotify (320kbps max)???
Which app is he using
Galaxy Buds Pro 2 already had spatial audio since 2 years ago (i think)..
Isnt the contrast and colour a little off in this video ?
