  • This is what I miss about Olympic figure skating. I couldn’t care less about how many quads someone can land in a routine. I want to see artists showing their soles on the ice because they love it and find joy in the beauty they can create.

    • This is the gala exhibition at the end, where the skaters get to do whatever they want. The actual competition has required elements that everyone must do so they can judge everyone on the same basis. But I get what you're saying

    • @@theshillneckedlizard8364 yes, but the changes in the required elements (for example the atrocious decision to eliminate the spiral sequences), push skaters to focus more on making it a jumping contest. It's called figure skating.

    • Johnny's always been close to our hearts especially when he was struggling . Must always remember folks that every step, movement ,jump, spin...... Is a pure heart beat to a skater and to put it aside is like losing a piece of yourself how do you redefine the core of your self .his gift is to invite you in and tell you his story through every movement and gesture. I met Johnny back stage after Champions on Ice performed in 2006. He's quite flashy. I think he had red shoes on.

    • @@biff5856 yes, I think it's time they split singles skating like they did pairs -- have athletic skating with all the jumps, and have artistic skating where there is a limit on jumps, so they have time to actually do something interpretive.

    • 100%. Like here. Not a jump until it fit the music. It was a buildup to it and then dazzle! Now days half the time nothing they do fits the music and it is so technical and just checking boxes.

  • This is the best I've ever seen a figure skating routine match up to the music. He pays attention to every beat, change in rhythm, and build in intensity. Wonderful artistry.

    • If you haven't already, access some footage from Gordeeva and Grinkgov pairs routines, Kurt Browning's Casablanca, '94 or 96 worlds short program of Michelle Kwans, and Christie Yamaguchi's Olympic gold programs. This wasn't competition but Katya Gordeeva's Reflejo de Luna was out of this world.

    • Watch how he spins....he counters the dizziness by going the opposite direction every few different moved. It’s like wrapping a rope around your finger then unwrapping it

    • Elizabeth R Well, that's not how it works here. Ballet's spins are waaaaaaay slower than skate's ones. I mean, you could do it; but if you want speed, you can't. So you just look at nothing and get used to it. When you skate, are in something pretty constant (Sorry, idk. Like... A whole Coreo is just one thing) you don't stop, so don't really have time to feel dizzy. I mean... When you finish a spin, just gotta close your eyes, open them again and ever keep going. By the way, even if someone is feeling some bad, no one is going to stop after a spin, that would be pretty dumb, jajaja Stoping could make it worse. Even if you are doing just spins and not a coreo. (Sorry for my english)
