    • @@kksto3688 Because Riverdale musicals make no sense, they change the context of the musical for no reason and the actors always use autotune, he was classically trained for theater so he probably hates all that autotuney stuff and how the story plays along in the episode.

  • Fun fact! So the guy in the beginning that you really liked his vibrato, his name is Casey Cott. He is Corey Cott’s little brother. For those of you who don’t know who that is, Corey Cott is on Broadway. He’s an incredibly talented singer, and it runs in the family!

    • ​@@honey4501 It is a theatre game where you go in a sequence of zip, zap, then zop. You put your palms together with your arms straight and do this slide: one palm slides down the other arm and you point that arm at somebody while saying either zip, zap or zop. It depends on the sequence. That person then continues the sequence and points at somebody else.

    • @@jane_wants_to_feel I feel like it was bad direction from either their music director or someone else. Ik the girl who plays her can sing, but she shouldn't have sung for Carrie cause it's wayyyyy out of her range and they already had to go lower for her on several occasions.

    • Yeah, I’m pretty sure she’s an alto but the way they had her sing it makes you think she’s a soprano trying to sing the alto part. My guess is that they told her to belt it, then didn’t give her any proper instruction so she got that really heavy, non-resonant sound. Don’t blame Madeleine, she can sing, blame the person her told her to sing like that

  • The reason kj is a bit off is probably because he is trying to sing in an American acsent because he is from New Zealand

    • I think he main thing is just stylistic differences in how he usually sings. His voice is much better suited to rock music, so musical theatre songs aren't really what he's comfortable with.

    • @@Laura-eb3tb not always, its easier to lose an accent when singing (Filipinos do it very well) but you can still have one. If you listen to the original cast of Six they still have their british accents.

    • @@Laura-eb3tb not all the way I did lots of choir and vowels change so drastically lots of choirs or more choral type music has British/tall vowels which makes for a mature sound but definitely a difference his New Zealand accent would make his sound more wide and childish if that helps you understand

Like, ok Carrie wasnt that bad but why try to make episodes where multiple people have to sing, when you only have like 3 people who can sing good and one of them barely gets a part? I mean, you can hear who can sing an who had to be autotuned to sound decent. I dont think thats the purpose. Did they at least get some vocal training after the first episode? Cause if you wanted to make more episodes like that, why wouldnt you at least give them a little training?

  • Listen to “I’ll try” from the first season of Riverdale. That is definitely where KJ Apa is using his normal singing voice and is sooo much better. I really do not understand why they made him sing like that.

    • Because the original pitch is a whole octave higher (I’m pretty sure at least), and so far, I’ve only really heard Derek Klena from the Off-Broadway revival nail it, and I felt bad that KJ needed to go that low

  • Madeline actually doesn't have that bad of a voice! It's just what Riverdale actually chose to do....if you watch her audition for "The Prom" there's definitely difference! Edit: I know she's no broadway star, but Riverdale did her dirty

  • So they changed the key of the song “Carrie” to be lower for Madelaine; I’m assuming because either she or they were concerned about her hitting the high notes. Unfortunately, it definitely would’ve sat better in her voice in the original key. She could’ve done a lot better mixing in the original key (and more training). Yeah the rest of the musical is pretty good but that song is by far the worst. It’s a shame.

    • It’s such an odd choice because they did the same with In. Her verse is so much lower than everyone else’s - yet they also gave her Unsuspecting Hearts with has some of the highest notes in the show. The producers were really messing with her.

    • Madelaine is definitely an Alto, but lowering the key so significantly was a bad choice. Not an expert but it was transposed down like 5 half steps??? She probably would've been better off going down just 2 half steps. She's also not a trained singer so they probably didn't want to put too much effort or time into trying to teach her how to sing properly before recording

    • @@jamies9040 I get that. Sometimes I find songs where the higher notes are too high for me but when I lower the key the lower notes end up being too low. In that case I eithe r practice a hell lot to be able to reach the higher notes or I simply d o n ' t s i n g t h e s o n g

  • My main critique with Riverdale's Carrie is mainly the song Carrie itself. They lowered the key a lot (it's typically a higher belt song) and it's also SO MUCH AUTOTUNE. I think that if they highered the key a little (still lower than the original key but higher than the current key) she would probably sound better on the song.

And also maybe one about tongue and jaw tension as well? I would love for you to talk about Ariana Grande’s jaw and tongue tension too, because it’s apparently really bad but I haven’t really seen many people talk about it and it confuses me because some people and coaches say jaw movement is okay and others say it’s really bad, so I would love your take on it!
