Tony Ferguson deserves an honorable mention from his last six fights. Hell, the abuse he took from Justin Gaethje alone could qualify him. That was inhuman.
Totally agree. Tony hasn’t been the same since the beating he took from Gaethje !!
Tony should make the list from just the gaethje fight!
I was thinking thé exact same thing
Tony has actually always taken a lot of damages even during his winning streak. He was always getting hurt badly before coming back and winning. I remember the Lando Vannata, Pettis fights, etc before the amazing losing streak. Can't believe he's not on the list.
I wouldn't be surprised if he has brain damage, hopefully he doesn't though
I'm very unsettled by Tommy's mouth moving...
it looks like trash. it was clearly never meant to move that much or that fast
Glad to see it's not just me
Yeah it doesn’t work at all
yeah love you tommy, but it’s creepy and weird
More unsettling the Jon Jones criminal record
Now we need a "The 10 Most Punishing Fighters in UFC History" using your same punishment point system, would be cool to see the top 10 fighters dishing out the punishment. Time to add up KOs, TKOs, Knockdowns, submissions, and significant strikes dealt out.
"Top 10 LEAST Damage Received" is also just as interesting...and a lot less somber than this one was😂
@@GengoSenmonHard to do. a lot of 1 and done Fighters have come through. need some sort of minimum fights/rounds participated in.
@@tomstark28 But that gets accounted for in the normalization process of data analysis, as shown in this video. Could always add in a rule taking out the 1 and done fighters, as well.
@@tomstark28you said it’s hard to do but then gave an easy fix lol. It’s not hard
Arlovski is a living legend considering the man has been fighting in various promotions for decades, taken that much damage yet still high up in the respective rankings of his division, absolute beast.
His comeback run before he fought stipe was incredible, I thought that would be the last hurrah but that was almost a decade ago now lmao
What a legend
Imagine Arlovskis fight I.Q now in his younger body, he would've held the belt for a long time, it's clearly what Jon Jones has done
i am shocked to hear how little UFC fighters get paid you guys must come together and boycott that White dude! and us the fans will support you, dana is making all the cash off you guys and you guys are taking the damage, when you get dementia from being hit do you think he is going to get the tab for that???? of course not he is making money off you guys taking damage and then does give a shit after that!!! go on strike go on strike!! go on strike!
Yeah this scale doesn't work.
As a paralegal who spends 10 hours a day researching, I know how hard your team worked to put this video together. Thanks for another intriguing video!
but they said bisping had 1 ko loss.. Hendo and gastelum i count 2, great research lol
@@laurbster2680Gastelum didn’t KO him.
@@jonoc5go back and watch that shit dude. Yes he did.
Bullshit. 1/25th of a point for a significant strike renders this video pointless.
@@Dahn.Baern.yeah, Wikipedia lists them both as KO's.
The last few years of Liddell's career were brutal.
Right! I'm surprised Chuck Liddell, Dominick Reyes, Luke Rockhold, or Chris Weidman didn't make this list. Even as an honorable mention.
@@Chill_Enigma at least luke made it to the thumbnail
What about frank mir
@@TheTruth-mv7hm Bro you’re right. Frank Mir had a long UFC career. I checked and he was in from 2001 to 2016, with 6 TKO, and 2 KO losses. Crazy he didn’t make the list either.
@@DrSpaceman69 Lol 😂 Silver linings I suppose
It always amazes me how you guys consistently put up great lists while doing what looks like inhuman amounts of research. Best MMA channel by far

I feel Bisping's permanent eye injury bumps him up the list. That's tangible, lasting evidence of damage taken that almost no other fighter would have. I understand its exclusion, but I feel that could be worth some points on its own.
Imagine how much more damage Bisping took because of his lack of vision 😂
He literally retired because started having issues in his good eye and was afraid of getting completely blind
He even came out saying that he cheated and fooled doctors during his physical exams for years! Crazy
Yes! An in-cage injury that results in the permanent loss of a bodypart should be a separate category of its own, with the highest point value of them all.
I agree but I remember a Japanese fighter who was blinded via eye gouge and literally kept it secret so the sport didn't get a bad name
From “its Tony time “ To “Tony, it’s time 😔”
I'm surprised that Chris lebben is not in the list
Yeah, me too. 🤔🤔🙄
Or even Chris Leben!
Don’t forget about Lhris Ceben!
I think it's worth pointing out how good (not just how durable) you have to be to keep fighting at the highest level, all while absorbing insane damage, both in competition and in training. Not all fighters spar the same way, but it's still intensely grueling to go through a fight camp and deal with pretty much constant pain. Even if you're not injured, you're pretty much always hurt in some way. And all this happens while you're probably not making a ton of money, either.
It's one of the reasons I stopped boxing 20 years ago. I realized that I was just enjoying myself and there was no need to kill myself prepping for anything. That's what made me realize that combat sports was a very particular type of sport for a very particular type of person. Namely a person that can tolerate a lot of daily, grueling pain, often times for no readily apparent gain. Also, I started studying various fight injuries and they spooked the hell out of me.
That frankie entry just shows how dangerous it is to hang around in this sport after your prime
Hey mma on point team, I really appreciate the amount of work you put into each video, especially this one. You guys will always have 10-20 mins of my day when you upload. I know you read these comments Tommy, thanks for what you do!! Much love
Big foot needs to be number one!
Loved the video and the effort Tommy! I think your presentations might be my favorite. The team are all "All-Stars" and the content is always good but your videos always feel like the best imo. Keep up the great work guys!
Great work Tommy!!! Loved this vid.
God damn Tommy, man puts in WORK for these stat vids
Bro you needed to give tony ferguson like 25-50 more points for his last few. He’s the goat in terms of receiving it (as of late anyway).
The armbar from Oliveira and heel hook from Dariush should be counted as painful submissions
Definition of too tough for his own good.
Dude this was absolutely amazing, please do a list of who has dished out the most damage over their career.
I wish your comment had more likes
@@dirtybirds423 Thank you, I think it would be awesome to see who has dished out the most significant strikes overall, the most knockdowns, who has cracked most of the uncrackable chins, all of the stats would be awesome @MMAOP!
That’s awesome! Well played sir! Always love this channel!
Very interesting video, alot of effort was put inside the calculations but I missed something that I didn’t understand: How did you normalise the details? Because LW fighters absorb way more significant strikes than HW fighters. What was the value that you was working with in order to convert the points to equal values?
The one thing that I’ve noticed you forgot in this list was training injury, such as blown out knees, injured backs, injured necks, and all the stats you put in the video that occur in sparring during training as well. We usually failed to consider how damaging to the joints this sport is overtime and how much of an affect getting hit over and over again in training also has an affect.
I think the point is in the octagon
@@CalebWelser13You’re not wrong, but undeniably, training can go wrong and cause plenty of accumulative damage over an MMA career
@@jdhenshaw6119 IN. THE. OCTAGON.
@@jdhenshaw6119 OCTAGON! 😠
you make a very fair point, but it would be a nightmare statistics wise.
Thank you for the research you do for these
Solid research and time spent for us!
Matt Hamill’s head to Jones’ elbow has to be #1. Forever blemished the greatest record of all time.
I like how you explained and backed up your formula. Outliers (how do you calculate??) are Rose being slammed and KOed, and catastrophic submissions such as Hill vs Craig arm break.
Really appreciate you and your teams efforts for your videos 🙏 Everything I click on your video I'm always hoping to hear Tommy Toe Hold. Your the man
Dude this was the most complicated enduring list you've ever done period big props to you dude great work very entertaining
I was kinda stumped about who #1 might be. But when he was revealed, my brain instantly went, “Oh, well yeah, that does make sense.”
I don't think I've ever heard anyone say Joe Lauzon is their favorite fighter, but I'm stoked to know I'm not alone. Love J-Lau, cuz he always brings it, and I've been a fan since the pre-TUF KO he had over Jens Pulver (who I also really like).
JL got his respect. While obv not a top fan fave he was like a cult fave.
@rickyvandusen1744 Man, I was so bummed when Lauzon vs. Cowboy fell through! That felt like the perfect retirement fight for Cerrone. Miller vs. Cowboy 2 wasn't a bad match-up, but it was a rematch, and I was really looking forward to Cerrone/J-Lau.
Joe was always one of my favorites to watch
Not my favourite but def top 10. Loved watching that man fight
Never involved a boring fight
Love this kinda content. Keep the stats coming!
I love these in depth videos and perspectives, more please!!
I’m really surprised that Darren Elkins, Clay Guida or Nate Diaz didn’t end up anywhere on that list! Nonetheless, great list and I commend you on the absolutely insane formula you created for this video! Great video!
Go watch JDS vs Cain #2 and #3 again. JDS took more damage in those 2 fights than most fighters take in their entire careers
I'm diggin this list, it's something I've wondered about. I would say that 75 significant strikes being the same as a knockdown seems a little skewed. I'd also skew the fighters weights as well - heavyweight ko's just seem soooo much more brutal. Thanks for the list Tommy, you magnificent bastard
Interesting how your point system really worked well and the numbers ran close enough to be competitive with each fighter! That must be a great feeling when it all worked out and thank you for your work.
As a wiki editor, the funny thing is that we use mostly use Sherdog for fight results, and they change their results alot.
#1: Jon Jones after the brutal beating he got from the GOAT Chael Sonnen. He was never the same after that...
UNDEFEATED, UNDISPUTED, UNCLE CHAEL SONNEN
😭😭😭😹😹😹 chael FACTS (not jokes) will never get old.
MY GOAT TOP 5 LIST 1. CHAEL SONNEN 2. CHAEL P 3. UNCLE CHAEL 4 THE BAD GUY 5. AMERICAN GANGSTER
@@thegoodstuff3148a bet you are the life n soul of every party you attend. Chael P never lost a round, BITCH.
Jones taped his foot in his Heavyweight fight specifically due to the damage it suffered in that fight. Unsurprisingly nearly tearing your big toe off will leave some lasting problems.😬
Thought we might see a Diaz brother on this. But between the two of them they have only been finished a few times. If there was a 'most blood lost' list they would be on it.
Thanks for being different than all other MMA content out there. Super interesting pieces.
Glad you’re back with the stat pieces man. 👍
For anyone curious, I did the math on Chuck and WITH his pride final conflict fight against Rampage (since the ufc lists it on their site) he is still only at 79.12 using this scale. Honestly Chuck, Frankie, and Donald are the first 3 that popped into my head so I was pretty surprised he didn't make this list.
I stand by my opinion that JDS took more damage in his Cain #2 + Cain #3 fights than most fighters take in their entire careers
I don’t wanna see tony get beat up again, like you guys said in your last video we wanna see him healthy in the future.
Videos like these are amazing, do more!
Was totally expecting Clay Guida to be on the list. Would love to see a fully published list of the top 100 fighters
I was also sort of surprised that BJ Penn wasn't even an honorable mention. I would have guessed his past 10 fights alone would have put him top-10.
Yeah when I think of damage I think of Sanchez and Guida
Thank you for the video guys. Everything on the list makes sense, but I was expecting to see Big foot silva in the top 3 at least. He suffered got 7 KO/TKO with heavyweights, had that WAR with Mark Hunt, 2 of those loses where by Cardio Cain and was a blood bath. Most times he landed flat on is back. Anyways very entertaining stuff. Thank you for all the content

Videos like these remind us why we love this channel
Tommy taking MMA math to a whole new level in this one
Belal Muhammad deserves an honorable mention to be fair. Bro gets hate on for being a decision fighter and some of it has spilled over to real life with fans pulling pranks on him 😂 he seems like a nice dude
yeah maybe we should also include bo nickal and ronda rousey too
Dude needs to stay off twitter
@@peanutbutter8219 what happened to Nickal?
@@Catman-san absolutely nothing. just like belal
He's a racist, he hates white people. It's extremely obvious.
I was a little surprised that Chris Leben wasn't on the list. He didn't suffer many KO/TKO's but he took a HELL of a lot of damage
Awesome video! You should do fighters with the most surgies next!
Another thing you guys could also take into account in your methodology is who they are taking hits from. Could do something like a moving ELO ranking to help weight that
This was beautifully nerdy and I absolutely love it! 😊
Amazing way of gathering information omg! Those scales and research is insane!
Great list, I think the criteria works very well for what's available. Would have been nice to include times a fighter has been put on wobbly legs without a knock down at, say, 1 point, but I'm pretty sure there aren't any tracked stats for that so trying to count them would be a nightmare. A more than reasonable skip due to not being viable. Actually surprised that Darren "The Damage" Elkins didn't make even the honorable mentions. What rank did he get? Also, pretty sure Edgar vs Gutierrez was Frankie's retirement fight, it was announced as such when the fight was made, and he gave a retirement speech after the fight. Did he back out on his decision to retire?
I'd say it would have been better to scale the significant strikes by weight class. It's not the same to take 10 strikes from Volk than to take 10 from Ngannou. Of course this would bloat the numbers of heavyweights, but that's the main attraction for them big boys. The suspense of "any punch could be a KO". Elkins, even with his nickname being "The Damage", doesn't get knocked down or out as much. What he has is a lot of scar tissue, which makes him easy to cut open, like the Diaz bros, so he just looks like he's taking even more damage than what he's actually receiving.
the animated Tommy looks like garbage, either commission newer, better artwork or stay with the static one, because the more you animate this one the more obvious how limited the artwork is.
I'd rather him just bounce around
@@michaelvaldivia3747 it was never meant to be a talking v-tube avatar and it's very cheap and hacky to try it like this
Absolutely love these videos
Good lord I really appreciate the amount of work that goes into these videos. Made a whole point system and I’m sure hours of research just to make this one video. Bravo.
I honestly felt like #1 was going to be a pick-em between Cowboy and Diego going into it... 😅 ...but having watched the video now I have to say: -Edgar has weathered it all the best right? - Shogun got the HM but I feel like if we added their pride numbers that would shift... maybe? - Max is a superhuman - I still want to kill dude who's name I won't say for making a Diego torture video
Diego torture video?
@farrellvanscyoc708 I swore i wouldn't share it any more but search "Diego upside down" and I'm sure you'll find it.
@farrellvanscyoc708 and if you come at me with any opinion about it being fine... prepare for flames fam lol
@itsreallyreal5848 no I really didn't know what you were talking about. I just KZheadd it though and that shit is fucking wack bro. Weird af
@farrellvanscyoc708 you can see why I'm so salty right? It's all bad... if you look for the guy who's name I won't say specifically it gets even creepier...
Elkins has taken a bunch
Guys like Darren Elkins, Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson tend to be seen as contenders for this kind of lists because they get bloodied a lot in their fights, and while it certainly takes quite a bit of damage taken to get to this level of scar tissue on the face, they are now simply easy to cut rather than taking ungodly punishments. The beatdowns from Bektic before the comeback and from Gaethje make it up for Darren and Tony, though.
Love this video format & extended avatar time.
That was awesome! Love those stat episodes!
If Overeem isnt number one
Nate isn’t even an honourable mention
@@seanquinn8790 Yea if they could do this list by like total PSI absorbed or total liters of blood lost we might be right
What about the fighters who took the less damage?
This is what I want to know as well.
GSP would he pretty high up there. Guy was a master of slips.
Yea there making the assumption that every ko or sub etc. are equal. Take a fluky jab that hits the button on a weak chin for a ko. 10pts Vs bisbing surviving hendos h-bomb in the 2nd fight. Thats worth 1/25th of a point. The scale makes no sense as far as damage
Thank you guys for doing legitimate analysis and not just “what we think” Can’t argue with quantitative and empirical numbers!
I love these videos I can't hit like hard enough thank you Tommy!
This is ridiculous, alistair got koed 5 times and he's 4 spots below cerrones 1. This makes no sense
Wonder where Tony Ferguson landed in this list?
Idk probably top 20 but when you think about it it makes sense he isn't in the top 10 cuz yea he took damage in most fights but he's barely been kod or subbed and has only really been getting beat up bad recently
He is doing his very best to get on this list.
Casual
You put some real hard work into this one
Love this, great job
Personally a break seems worst than a KO😂
You are insane my friend! Good job buddy
This was great! Ty Tommy and Luke
This is so cool, keep it up!!!
This was probably one of my favourite lists you guys have ever done.
You guys used Rockhold in the title/pic for this video! That is legendary!!!
Great job Tommy love the breakdown...
Something you forgot, Bisping was KOd by Gastelum in his final fight. So, that would be 2 KOs, not 1.
dayyum, excellent video, the mouth moving is such a level up
I commented a few months ago saying I loved more statistic videos and dear god you've really blown it away! Thank you so much!
LMAO, "And of course, dear God in heaven, Francis". This is so well done, kudos sir.
Great list, I’d be interested in seeing a similar list normalized (most damage taken / fights). Or another variant of the scale such as Damage Dealt / Damage Taken. I understand you would have to analyze many more fighters, but I think you could do a lot of different dissects of the data based on your scale.
Incredible as always
Dude that was awesome! You really did your homework. Thx
