As a Floridian who basically grew up on the beach I can tell you definitively that most beach front mansions have pools for the simple reason that cleaned and filtered pool water can be way nicer to swim in than the ocean while still giving you a nice coastal view.
Yup, as someone that lives close to one of the top beaches in Florida, pretty much all of the homes have really nice pools. And even the little resorts there all have pools.
You don't even need to be a beach person or anything to understand that.. while it can be fun to swim in the ocean, it's also saltwater that will really mess with your skin, hair, etc if you swim in it too often. There's also no guarantee how safe it is both in terms of what's in the water and the water itself. So a pool is nice because you know it's clean, it's filtered, and so on.
It's also a lot safer, cause there's no risk to get caught in the currents and if it's your own pool you know for sure it's clean
or if it's too cold to swim in the ocean but the pool slightly warmer

I practically eloped so I wouldn't have to think about it. Then everyone else in his extended family did similar weddings (small wedding at a courthouse and then later a low-key but nice reception either the same day or later that week). Since my wedding was so, blah, theirs looked great.
kayla i am getting married in september and have a wedding pro tip for you!! if you don't care about having ~real~ flowers, find a faux floral rental company and rent them. seriously saved us so much money (like probably we would have spent at least 3x as much on real flowers) and since they're reusable it's much more eco-friendly! obviously do whatever you want but if you're looking for ways to cut costs this was like the #1 thing that saved us a ton :)
Can you explain how reusable plastic flowers are more eco-friendly than real bio-degradable ones? Is there something about living flowers that makes them non eco-friendly?
I'm getting married and I totally agree, fake florals can still look so pretty and I promise very few if any guests are going to notice lol
I second the use of renting faux flowers!! I got married on a cruise ship and we couldn't bring real flowers and the fakes ones I rented looked SO amazing that no one even knew they were fake lol
@@lisalamb5955 I don’t know if i can say one is more eco friendly than the other because on one hand plastic isn’t good for the environment but being able to reuse them over and over can help more just stuff in general going into the trash which is the point they are making i believe and on the other hand flower gardens are not plastic which I’m sure is better environment wise but the flowers do end up getting tossed after a single day and so we have huge gardens dedicated to these flowers which is creating less natural areas and more farm areas which aren’t really eco friendly hope this answers any questions you had.

growing up, tv/electronics were forbidden during mealtimes, and we all had to eat at the table, and no one could start eating until we were all there. didnt matter if the show you'd been waiting for all week was on, the tv went off (we did not have a taping system, so you were sol until a rerun came on). Homework was also at the table, or at your bedroom desk if you had one. Nowadays, I almost exclusively eat at my desk, or on the couch, and the table is an adhd collection zone and craft spot. my mother would be horrified
As a fellow cat tutor, I feel you about not being able to "explain" things to our cats. Last year I had to give my baby (the baby in question is a 10yo cat) some pills and even after we were done with them, he would run away from me the moment he saw my face. But don't worry, they somehow manage to understand us after all. About the wedding preparations, I'm always gobsmacked when I remember how EXPENSIVE the services for wedding and fancy parties in general are. In Brazil, we recently had a debate on how hair and makeup for a bride is always overpriced. One bride lied to her makeup artist (she said she would be a guest in a christening) just to get her makeup done for cheaper.

@@ErosDiabolicoYeah, as much as I think all wedding services are ridiculously overpriced compared to those same services, I don't know if I could work up the nerve to lie to a vendor lol. I know a hairdresser who books a lot of weddings, and part of the reason it's more expensive than the same updo would be for, say, prom or a quinceanera is that you usually get a consultation first for bridal hair to make sure you love it. Plus for weddings she always pays someone to be "on call" in case she gets sick or god forbid something happens to her at the last minute.

relating to the dining room discussion, my family pretty much always eats at the dining table as a group. this may either be because of slavic traditions or specifically my family's traditions, i'm honestly not sure,, i'd assume the former but honestly i know very few people well enough to ask so i may be completely off-base. i do know that when my american friends have mentioned that they tend to eat separate from their family except on holidays, it surprised me, but that tells you nothing about slavic vs. family traditions also the build is very pretty and i for one love the second floor pool. looks very much like smth fancy rich people would do
As an Italian, I share your same experiences, I always eat at the table with my family, between work, school and anything else, it's always been a moment for us to be together and talk. As far as my knowledge goes, the majority of Italians eat sat at the table, but it might also be because we have strong cultural ties with food and the act of eating together itself, so it's common sense for us😂. Also, I could never eat on the couch, I find it extremely uncomfortable to have to hold my plate up as I eat 😂

Grew up in America, specifically nd, and we always ate dinner together. As for breakfast and lunch it depends as we all have different schedules, but dinner is the one meal we always eat together. Not every American eats separately from their family 😅

Not eating meals at the table is so American, as an Italian I can confirm we always eat every single meal at the table (even snacks). Although I've lived for a year in the States and i often ate meals on the couch (if I was running late I'd eat in the car too)

Growing up my family only ate at the table (but we did have a kitchen table and a formal dining room). The kitchen table was for everyday and the formal dining room was just for holidays/special occasions. I think eating on the couch is something newer for young adults living on their own.

I dont know if others here in finland are like me but I def still eat all my meals at the table. Very rarely i eat at couch etc usually it is what we call like late evening snack 😂
I’m American and it was drilled into my head my whole life that you’re only allowed to eat at the table. However, almost all my friends growing up were allowed to eat on the couch or in their rooms and it made me nervous that my mom would find out.

I think lilsimsie should also try to build things that aren't realistic. Like, a completely floating house. Leaning in on the fact that it's all fictional and doesn't need to make sense. Doing whimsical stuff. Just because I'd like to see how she would deal with challenges like that.
In my apartment, me and my mom actually use our dining table quite frequently (Its in our living room), but its mainly because our apartment is somewhat small. We do switch between sitting at the dining table and sitting on the couch while eating dinner, and then we watch shows together while eating ♥ We do have a little table in the kitchen we could use, but we'd rather sit and have more space in the living room. My mom also uses the dining table in the living room to work from home once a week :)
At home, my parents always really stressed how we must eat at the dining table (I'm 29). It always stuck with me, which means I never eat on the couch, as it feels way less comfortable for me (I don't really have any surface for my plate and utensils). It also helps that my dining table was always in my kitchen or beside it. I guess it depends on the habits you develop!
we actually never ate at the dining table, and i always missed it. whenever i went over to a friend i would revel in the family time they had every day, while my biological mother would just put on dr phil or something and we had to be quiet. even though i'm currently living alone i make a point of it to sit at the dining table and make it nice, even if i do have something to watch while eating because i don't have anyone to talk to ^^
Dining room convo: I grew up in France, and IDK if it applies to everybody but at least my family and both sets of grandparents are like as follows. We eat daily life meals at the kitchen table. The dining room is used for the nice Sunday lunch or when there are guests (obviously, the kitchen table fits max 4/5 people, so dining table is necessary) Now I live in Japan, and house/ apartments are tiny. so there isn't a separate dining room. the living room dining room and kitchen are usually 1 big room. so there's a table in there, and you wouldn't call it either a kitchen or dining table, because it's all in 1 room. In the tiny apartment i used to live before moving in together with my boyfriend, I didn't even own a normal table and chair. Only a coffee table where I ate, and did homework, sitting on a cushion on the floor.

85 baby but had an older boomer mother & youngest boomer dad. Growing up ALL evening meals were on the formal dining table. Moved out at 18 to go to uni and have never used a formal dining table since, except for when I visit my mother. Did have a 4 seater table in ONE house share but not any other. Last 9 years I've lived in my own owned apartment, again no formal dining table (no room). However I did buy a double folding table during the first UK lockdown during the panni, however its still in pieces in the box nearly 4 years later lol. I mostly bought it as in its smallest configuration its a skinny console table and i wanted more surfaces for my plants (i got plant crazy well before the panni by the way but did add to the collection during, hence the purchase). I think most "younger" people don't use or have formal dining tables, we mostly don't have the space, and if you don't have kids who potentially need help eating, why would you actively choose a less comfortable chair vs the sofa to eat dinner?
You should make a shell for deli or James that they have to do in your favorite style and them do a shell for you that you have to do in their favorite style which is modern. I think it would be fun bc your hardest is their easiest and their hardest is your easiest. Also 80 bucks a plate is a good deal, in my area the typical plate is $100 to 150 for a wedding. My family always eats the kitchen table every night. Bigger homes like this one often have a formal dining room that used less often though.

Honestly, Kayla’s modern houses are kind of really beautiful nowadays. Not that they’re bad before, but they’re really modern looking now, like the type you’ll see in architecture magazines. And to answer your question on the video, our family has a dedicated dining room space! But it’s because we have a lot of people in our household so it’s easier for the cleanup for everyone to eat together. Hoping you’ll enjoy the catering tasting!!
I think that's also because the new packs are more modern because ea is collaborating and listening to the community
im from argentina and we always eat at the dinning table. we set the table and everything. the difference between that and a facy meal like Christmas with all extended family, we have fancy cutlery and we even dress formal! but yes, must eat everyday at the dinning table, kitchen is for the cooker only. (aside eating at it, "free times" is used for whatever. maybe I'm doing homework while my mum is crocheting♡)
I love that you took the time to talk directly to Snap about why she needs to wear the cone 💕 I actually related a lot from when my cat had a surgery to have some of her teeth removed. I was stressing a lot because I couldn't explain to her what was happening. It makes me feel better now being the only one feeling like that 😅 Also, growing up we always used the formal dining table, either for eating and doing homework 😅 now, living by myself, I don't have a dining table and prefer to eat on the couch or on my desk haha I love the build 💕

I’ve been playing in this house in my current legacy and its actually laid out perfectly. The upstairs “living room” has been a great infant toddler hangout.
I saved so much on florals for my wedding by using faux florals and putting together all the bouquets and arrangements with my mom. My mother in law surprised us and booked a floral package with the venue. The main entry and grand staircase looked beautiful.
Your life’s updates are as exciting content to me as the games related content. I just love the formula you’ve created for yourself and your community, so much so that I keep coming back even though I don’t even play the Sims XD. Disclosure, im a pathologist who comes to your channel almost on a daily basis cause your content just makes me feel good and helps me relax and unwind from work. That being said, I really do feel for what you’re going through with Snap and I’m just so glad about the most recent good news you’ve got. This house is so cute! I don't generally gravitate toward modern builds, but I enjoy the ones you create. I think in part it's because you tend to incorporate some warmth via color and texture (I'm really not a fan of modern stuff where it's all stark colors and concrete). I grew up in a relatively small house with a very basic layout on the first floor: the living room was in front, the dining room was in the middle and mostly open to the living room, and the kitchen was at the back of the house and mostly closed-off. Because I have a big family and there was limited space, all rooms were used. We always had meals at the table when I was younger, but as we got older, my parents cared less. It's definitely interesting to see how much the architecture people grew up with influences their builds.
Here where I live in Germany food and drinks can be 180€ per person easily 😅 However guests give you a third of that money instead of wedding presents

I've always eaten at the dining table. It was the only time my family was together. I would even say I was never in the living room because I had absolutely no interest in whatever my parents were watching on tv and I wasn't allowed to watch it by myself.
When I was very young, I remember sitting at the dining table to eat, but that was when I very little. For most of my childhood, our dining table was tucked away into the bay window that looked out into the backgarden. It was one of those big circular tables that could be extended into a bigger table, but I don't think we ever actually extended it. I never called the dining room "the dining room", instead it was either the living room or back room, and the actual living room was the front room. The backroom was basically designated as the kids' living room; it was where our playstations 1 and 2 were hooked up on one of those old box TVs (this was long after more sleek TVs were popular, and where our Nintendo Wii was. After my parents divorced, we only ever used it as a dining room at Christmas, at which point my mom had replaced the table with a smaller one. Outside of that, I ate meals sitting on the floor or on the couch or in my bed. That's also where I used to do homework. Nowadays I sit on the sofa or in my bed because sitting on the floor does not tend to agree with chronic pain and fatigue lmao. In more recent years, the backroom has become my brother's bedroom. It's much bigger than his old bedroom which only really fit a single bed and a small set of drawers. That's now become my mom's office, which fits a corner desk, after she started working from home during covid.
We just eat from the couch 😅 We *have* a dining table, but it currently exists in a "storage" room where we put everything we didn't know what to do with after we moved....2 years ago 😅

Growing up we had a formal dining room, we called it the fineroom. It was the brightest room in the house with lots of windows (got cold in winter). We only used it a couple of times a year (birthdays) and as a kid I wasn't allowed in there. When I became a teenager I did my homework there because there was nothing to distract me and all the light made me focused :) Growing up we always ate together at the kitchen table, I only started eating in front of the computer when I moved out.
We have a dining table but it’s more like a connection room between the living room, hallway and Kitchen. My family and I do eat at the dining table every day but we don’t have a formal dining room specifically just for eating in it.

But now that we grow older, we have more flexibility to choose whether we want to eat at the dining table or not, but most of the time we'll eat at the dining table, and I guess now it become a habit 💁♂

I adore modern style houses so im glad you build them at least sometimes! I get inspired by them sometimes lol. Also, i also use my dining room more often as a place to just sit down and do stuff (homework, legos, etc) and eat in a barstool so its also pretty normal for me

The wellness skill makes the high-maintenance trait not only tolerable, but one of my favorites! They’re upset much less often but still experience some of the silly realistic issues of real life (I, too, loathe hangnails and 🤢 Poseidon’s kiss)
In my home (I still live with my parents) we have an open floorplan, so from the entry hallway you enter into the living room, walk past it to get into the dining room and round the corner for the kitchen. We always switch between eating at the actual dining table and seated on the floor at the coffee table watching tv. It depends on the type of food we’re eating and whether my parents want to watch the news/sports

I grew up having breakfast and dinner at the dinningtable. Breakfast was usually on our own, but dinner was always together, as a family. It was a way for us to actually spend a little time together each day. But we also didn't have a kitcken bar-table or something like that. It was the dinningtable or on the couch, so it was probably more natural for us to use the dinningtable.

I always had to sit at the dining table to eat when I still lived with my parents, but that's normal in here (Finland) because it's "good manners". We don't usually have formal dining rooms either, the table is mostly in the kitchen, and we don't dine on counters (unless you're a broke student.) In my own house now, I do have a dining table, but 90% of the time, I don't eat on it 😅 guess it's rebelling against childhood rules PS. I really need to grab this, so pretty!

I have a smaller apartment so while I do have a dining table we took the chairs away and put them in storage it is now a large desk. Our coffee table can lift and unfold into a table if we ever have people over to eat😅
because we're remodeling our upstairs, our dining table has become a big desk for my and my husband's computer setups... and one of the old desks (basic IKEA table) has been squashed in the kitchen (partly underneath the bar-shelf in order to fit) and has been temporarily turned into the dining table... my piano (used to be upstairs) is currently sitting against the side of what is now our desk... lots of boxes (mostly with yarn for my crochet business) and every bit of empty wall-space has been filled with storage units that normally are located upstairs...
In my house the dining table is used for 2 things- eating when company is over or wrapping presents for holidays lol

15:17 - every home i've ever had, has had a dining *table*. i'm from eastern/northern europe and i feel like it's really common to have those here, but it's literally just a table, very few homes that i've been to have had an actual dining *room*. in my parents' house the dining table is used for all meals and my mum does have her laptop there but she does also have an office space in another part of the house. in my current apt. we mainly eat at the dining table, sometimes dessert is served on the couch to like a movie or something. i think for me a big part of it is that i was raised with the belief that having ''good posture'' (mostly just being upright) while you eat leads to easier digestion, which i feel like still rings true for me but i don't know if it has any scientific backup, and on the couch i mostly am slouching/kind of half-laying half-sitting. the other big factor for me is that in my childhood home we used to have (at least dinner) mostly all together (me, my mum and our.. roomie? ig) but then we moved and in my parents' now home (stepdad's house) we never ate all together apart from like birthday cake or something and now that i love with my partner, i try to eat dinner together as much as possible, because i like the connection and i just really feel like that's a routine i'd like to keep. i'm not saying i whole-heartedly believe in the whole ''couples are splitting up because they don't eat together'' theory but it definetly has some truth to it and some points in it (connecting about your day, feeling satisfied together after a full tummy etc) that are very valid to me.
For me as a kid growing up, eating at the dining table was a Sunday night thing only for whatever reason, otherwise we'd eat at the small kitchen table, or in front of the TV.
I grew up living with my grandparents which is probably why we almost always sat at the table when eating dinner. However the table was in the kitchen and we didn’t have a separate dining room. We each had our own designated seats, lol. On occasion we would eat elsewhere like if we ordered pizza or something but it definitely was not the norm. Now with my kids I am definitely a “eat on the couch” type of mom but I think I need to bring back sitting at the table cause I really really liked that growing up :)
This build came out so nice. It’s kind of hard to explain, but my “dining room” is actually a foyer. My house is older, and at one time had a large lot in between two streets with a big backyard - the original owners didn’t use the official street address front as the front, they used the back door as the front door, so the back door has a larger wide foyer separated from the kitchen by a wall that can’t be removed (it’s structural but also most of our counters/cabinets are on it). The house was sold to a builder, who split the lot and the back yard shrunk so he could build a second house. He also split off part of the large living/dining room into a third bedroom. So the kitchen is really too small for a dining table, and now the living room is too small to also be a combined dining room but the foyer is just wide enough to have a dining table up against the wall. I don’t have a coffee table because my kindergartner has a giant hot wheels garage that took over our living room, so we eat at the dining table - in a hallway.

Talking about having a formal dining room, we eat in the living room but use our formal dining table when we have friends over for dinner, but more often than anything it's just for board games xD
In my household, we sometimes eat at the dining table. If it's a nicer meal, like a steak or similar, we eat there but if it's informal, like take-out pizza or fast food, we either eat in the living room or our bedrooms. It just depends. Of course when we have guests over we use the table most of the time, but some occurrences don't warrant it.
Here in Italy it’s pretty common to have a table both in the kitchen (kinda more “casual” place to eat) and in the living room (usually cluttered but cleaned up and used if people come over for dinner) so I’ve seen formal dining room only once or twice

one of my favorite things to do in the sims is to make a pool and basement right next to each other and then put windows in so that you can see the water from the basement
i love your videos lilsimsie :) i never used to build properly in the sims because i didn't know it could be fun, but ever since i started watching your videos i've been building 90% of the time i play the sims it's good because i get to explore the architectural styles i like without having to make real models or anything

Growing up, we always ate at the dining table. My husband and I usually eat on our coffee table in front of the TV, but we had family come recently and I was thankful we have a dining table to eat at with them!

Omg when i was planning my wedding I relied on my mom so much to be the "real" adult so i totally get it! She was there for every decision and helped so much when talking to vendors. My mom also used our dining room as a work space and so we all would study and do homework on it. We generally ate in the living room instead too!

Same for us! Our dining table has our computers on it lol The dining room is really mostly an office. Unless we have company 😅
Feeling like you need a "real" adult for things just seems like part of adulthood for me, haha. I'm in my mid 30s, and I still call my mom when that feeling hits. I'm also at the age where I'm intentionally treasuring having her around to ask my silly questions and give me the encouragement I need. ETA re: the dining table situation - as a kid, we had a small "open concept" house, where we could see the TV from the dining table. We did eat together at the table basically every night. Now, in my own house, it's also a tiny (800 sq. ft.) "open concept" house, but there's no room for a dining table 😂. The place where a table would go is where the lizards live 🤷🏻♀️
We have a narrow galley kitchen and a dining room so we eat at the table mostly. My husband works from home there often and we do a lot of crafts there. We were debating knocking down the wall between the kitchen and dining room when we redid the kitchen, but decided against it because of cost.
my family always sits down and eats dinner together at the dining table if my dad cooked something new. otherwise, if it's leftovers we just grab stuff outta the fridge and i usually eat at my desk in my room. it's nice but sometimes it feels like a chore i kinda value my alone time lol. especially when i'm not super involved in what my parents are talking about. the table still ends up becoming a dumping ground for mail n stuff tho. and before i had a desk i used to use my laptop there too. wasn't until i was in high school that i realized families sitting down and eating together was kind of a weird/uncommon thing now
