Hey, My name is Tom. I don't know about you but I find myself wanting to DO everything myself. I consider myself a Jack Of All Trades. Master of none. What you'll find here will be anything from building or fixing cars or trucks, building or remodeling projects and everything in between. I get myself into some pretty interesting situations.
I'd love it if you subscribed so we can stay in touch... You might even learn something. I know I will!
Thank you for watching!!

My son is a carpenter who was working alone up on a ladder nailing up a soffit. He put the nail through the palm of his hand and well into the wood beyond. There he was two stories high nailed to the house with no cell phone that he could reach and no one around to hear him yell. He grabbed his saw and sawed off the part of the soffit attached to his hand, climbed down the ladder and drove himself to the ER. Swears he will not work alone again. We will see... (BTW-- the nail missed all the many things running through the palm and his hand is fine!)
😲
I feel like the ER nurses will use his story at Christmas gatherings... "this man came in w part of a roof attached to his hand..." Smart guy, tho!
This is God's way of telling you to slow down. Dawn needs you and the kid's Dad is not replaceable!
I am sorry you got injured! Thank you for showing the finished garage and thank you most of all for putting videos out again!
My late father decided to build a carport behind his house…..alone!! Long story short, he fell while trying to put up the trusses. He didn’t tell anyone and we wouldn’t have known until his girlfriend gave him a big hug. He yelped and then told her what had happened. Turns out he had broken 2 ribs. You can’t teach an old dog common sense and he finished building the carport without further injuries. Oh, he was 80 at the time!!
Men!! they just dont get how we worry about them.
Oh, I bet you scared the life out of Dawn! I know you want to make hay while the sun shines but dang don't do that major stuff alone! Hope that finger heals quickly & without problems.
Omg Tom you crack me up. You’ve gotta stop outing stuff on your videos about going against codes & approvals - you don’t know who’s watching! (Although I completely agree with your sentiment of doing what you want!)
wondering if the low flying plane was the inspector?? LOL
It's time enough we all took back control of our property and possessions! I completely agree with him, on my property, I'll do as I please.
It’s easier to apologize than ask permission 😉
Cloud-seeding plane? "Lots of rain every other day..." 🤷♀️ 😉
@@mammacass5311 Apologizing in this case could mean tearing part of it down and starting over.
OMG…it looks great! As a former ER nurse I am glad you came to the realization that it’s not worth it if you injure yourself!
WOW, glad to hear you're heeding the warning ⚠️ Happier to hear you didn't fall off the roof, been holding my breath for the majority of the video 😮 Speedy recovery 🙏💜
Wow! That was a lot of work for one man. As someone who will be 80 in October I can understand the reticence about doing stuff, up a ladder etc, alone. Last time I hung wallpaper a friend rang me every day, just to make sure I hadn't fallen.
Praying you heal well Tom. Good decision going forward on not being up in the air alone.
Tom, as worried as I was when I saw the title of the video I knew you had to be ok or it wouldn't be up. I have to admit, I do laugh along with you and some of your decisions. I am so glad you weren't seriously hurt, and oh yes, the Garage looks Beautiful!!!!
The garage is awesome!! Please take care of yourself. Hard lesson but a good one. Work with someone else there. Especially if you are up in the air. Painting a wall is a different story but working in windy conditions and you have to be tired out. You are such an amazing contractor. Everything you do is beautiful.
Thank Goodness you aren't more seriously injured. Always good to have a work buddy to be safe.
It sounds like The Holy Spirit stays close to Tom and protects him according to His promises in Psalm 91.
Thank goodness your injury, although serious, was not as bad as it could have been. You do awesome work, glad your judgement is getting a little less rusty! Now if you’d use sunscreen to protect your future self… So glad you’re back to making videos!
I know a farmer who died doing a job on his own that really required two people. He left behind four young children and a widow. You do not want to leave Dawn and your kids in that position. Glad you’re seeing the wisdom of not doing everything on your own.
Tom, oh Tom -- you are SUCH a man!! Y'all can never believe we wives know anything UNTIL you get hurt. THEN, y'all decide our ideas - like don't be up there alone! - are pretty smart!! 😂👍
Wow! You are amazing- I hope your finger is healing. Glad you admitted that sometimes you need help! That is hard for all of us💕
I hope your finger heals well 🙏🏻. The garage is looking so good! I am happy to hear that you will recruit help now. Safety first, and like you mentioned, it isn't worth something happening that will impact your well-being in future ❤️.
Things are coming along nicely. Once again, I am so very glad you're back doing videos. You were sorely missed.
Yep. Looks amazing! I can see why you're excited. Great job, Tom! Also. Thanks for sharing your mishap. I'm about to start using a framing gun for the first time and your cautionary tale will make me show extra care.
It does look amazing, Tom!! Nicely done and planned out, except for the mishap! So Sorry, you got hurt. Brought back memories of a bigger hurt 12 plus years ago. Hubby and his crew were putting up rafters on a large shed. Hubby fell down onto concrete floor and sadly didn't survive the fall. He was 6 weeks short of his 50th birthday. We still miss him so very much!!! So, for Dawn's sake as well, please be careful and also use safety equipment as/when needed. I appreciate your videos and your beautiful family!
I’m sorry you got hurt, please be careful we really really like you and don’t want anything to happen to you. That injury will be painful healing because there are a lot of nerves in fingertips. I like the windows and door locations. Keep the back wall no openings leaving a place for cabinets and such, so maybe consider some blocking for hanging tools or cabinets. ❤ Be careful please. ❤
Given the tremendous negative impact your loss or permanent disability would have on your family, I'm glad you have decided to be smarter about what sorts of work you will take on alone at a construction site.
You could put the window In facing the house and in later years you could use it as a doorway. It might not work but just a thought
Yes it does look fantastic. Well done Tom Thumb.
Thank you for bringing us along. Even though you don’t enjoying the whole process like Dawn. We love your channel. And it does look amazing!
I am thankful that you are ok. But I am happy to hear that you are not going to do stuff up high by yourself again. Awesome job on garage and the cracked house.
It does look incredible!! Really awesome! All your hard work is paying off!!
Hurricane ties (metal straps) at garage door openings.
I have a neighbor that just built a 2 car garage and he put another overhead door on one of the side too, to allow him to be able to get lawn equipment and stuff like that our without having to move his vehicles. I think that is a great idea.
Project looks amazing! So sorry you got hurt BUT you did all the things to get to the ER. It is always a better idea to not work with this kind of hazard but we don’t always expect the unexpected. Can’t wait to see it finished! 💕🇺🇸
We are always impressed with what you can do Tom!!!! :) Im so sorry that you got injured!!! Yikes!!!! And you had to do all that stuff before you could leave, bless your heart!!! Great choice to get help from now on!!!! You are right, its not worth it!!! The garage looks incredible!!!! Wow!! Whoever the tenants are that will live there are getting an amazing place!!! Glad to see you back Tom!!!!
The garage looks great. Once the home is finished I hope you get good long term renters that will maintain it!
Oh, Tom. Stuff happens. Glad you have a plan for your future work. Heal well!
So sorry about your injury! Great work on the property 🎉
Tom, so sorry you hurt your finger like that! 😬 I pray 🙏 the end part of your finger bone you shattered, wasn’t enough to cause nerve damage to the point where it bothers your hand all the time. 😞God bless you brother, you’re such a hard worker! Please keep us updated on how your finger is doing! I’m glad that Dawn was able to come get you and take you to the ER. Please don’t work alone anymore than you have to! I’m sure Dawn worries about you all the time! Your garage and the house is looking so good! 😃👏👏👏👏👏
The place does look amazing! That being said, you are correct in stating there are some things you should not do when you are alone. Grown-ups! 😅
I know making these videos must add to your workload considerably, but I really enjoy them so much. I’m always rooting you on! everything looks great and you’re taking wonderful care of your family.
Your comment makes my heart happy ❤️ that means a lot to me 😁
OH dear, Tom! You’re absolutely right - injuries that might affect you for the rest of your life are not worth taking a chance. Best wishes for your complete healing with no residual troubles.
It's amazing how much you have added to our world, Tom. My dad left two houses and three garages that he built mostly himself. The garage looks great, along with looking like it's always been there! Take care of yourself and may God continue to bless your family.
Well done it’s looking amazing! Please don’t work on your own though! Anything could happen (even on the ground)…. Always good to have someone there in case of emergency! Also much nicer to work when you have a friend on site so your not struggling to do thing on your own and there is someone else there to joke around with!
It's just wonderful that it didn't ricochet into your eye!! PTL for looking after you.
It was good you were wearing safety gear for your head and eyes in case in had hit there!
Oh My G'Ness!!! So sorry you got hurt, but so grateful it wasn't WORSE!!! Hope it all heals up well! The ending shot, house and garage all looking fabulous!!!!
Hope you feel better.
Great job Tom. Glad you were not injured more seriously. It’s bad enough. Glad you’re back,we missed you.
Ohhh Tom. Please be careful. But great progress. ❤❤❤
Eeek! Wishing you a swift recovery Tom
Oh Tom, we can so relate to you, you are naturally talented like my husband. He's 75 and still doing projects. They just take longer now. He has just laid tile flooring throughout the main part of our house and is in the final stages of baseboard. It's been almost a 3-month project. A week ago, he was using the table saw to cut baseboard and cut a chunk out of the side tip of his middle finger, left hand! Wouldn't go to the ER, so we doctored it here and it's going to have to heal itself. There was nothing you could do about the hole it left. He still bumps it and it hurts so much, so when you popped onto Dawn's video and said you keep bumping it.....yep! We did buy a finger splint at Walgreens that he can put on to help protect it a little bit. You might want to do that too; it just helps guard the fingertip some. Not his first, hand accident. On a better note, the garage looks great! I think it would be really nice to build a breezeway (that's what we call it) between the house and the garage eventually. I think that's what you were describing. I think in the wintertime it would be really nice to not have to go outside to get into the garage. Will look forward to seeing what you do with that eventually. Take care of your hand. Praying for a speedy recovery.
The house looks great with its new garage. It's good to see you back. Take care of that finger.
Glad to hear you’re ok!
So happy your video taping again, my hubby likes watching you and your one of the few he does, thank you.
oh dear! Sorry about the finger, but I am thankful that it was not worse. Glad to here you have learned your lesson. A ricochet could have landed anywhere, God was with you. are you putting so many windows in the garage just for natural light? In the old days they didnt put windows in a garage lol. you take care now!! Wow the place looks great! congrats!!
It looks so good! You did a great job! Hope your finger is healing well!
Be you and BE SAFE. The garage already looks beautiful.
Tom it all looks great but PLEASE be more careful! Dawn and the kids need you! So glad you're going to be okay. Prayers for a quick recovery. ❤
So sorry you hurt yourself. Your excitement is understandable. Be very proud of your accomplishments.
I'm just amazed at what all you can do by yourself. Though you can, we're all happy to hear you'll be allowing others to help. You're right, it's not worth the harm that could happen.
Hey , all .. after all Tom’s hard work , I just gotta ask : can we get more subscribers ? Itz so easy ! And free to just click on subscribe ! Text this vid to yer friends n fam & ask them to as well ! Letz DO this gang ! YAY !
Tommy Me Boy…..remember Aesop’s Fable of “The tortoise and the hare”…..slow as You go Dear Man-Child….oh yes the house and garage look panoramic…..from the country road…..fooled those nay-sayers….but remember to keep it humble and gracious…..”Happy Mother’s Daze to All Who Mother”….
Tom..... I am so sorry that you had that accident with your finger. Please slow down a little bit. Love your videos and how to's. Praising the Lord that you are ok and not something much worse.
The boys watch you and will do what you do. Think about that for a moment. Safety first. I am very glad it wasn't worse. I'm praying for a complete healing, my friend.
Wow, Tom! It all looks great but more importantly, you didn't kill or maim yourself! Sheesh! We are glad to see you back! Take care!😊
Tom, my husband who you met in Vancouver, WA last August at the park had a nail gun go through is three fingers doing the same type of task on a roof about 20 years ago, had to climb down off the roof, took te nail off and drove himself 30 miles to our local emergency room - ouch! hope you heal quickly.
I remember visiting with and meeting you guys. That's crazy about your husband though. I'll stop complaining.. Lol. It's mostly healed now but when I grip things aggressively it hurts. most likely from the shattered bone. Tell you husband I said Hi.
So happy you weren't badly hurt. You work hard and you need to follow your own advice to stay safe.
Well aren't ypu the quick learner...41 yrs to learn not to work by yourself at higher heights. GOOD FOR YOU! HAHAHA Everything looks great though Tom. ❤️❤️
Yes - that work looks amazing! 100% safety comes first. After an injury, no matter what kind, take extra care with decisions and work load, until you are completely better. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes to you and your family ✨
Tom, Wow! That house & garage look awesome so far. Your finger makes me hurt just thinking about it. Glad you promised not to go up high alone anymore...some how I have a feeling that won't last too long. 😅
So satisfying to see the positive side of your hard labor. Also glad help arrived.
Amazing job! So sorry to hear about your finger and I hope it heals up really quickly.
Sorry you got hurt, but glad it wasn't worse. Yes, I think having help when you need it is a good idea. Take care.
Wow, Tom, that garage looks AMAZING!
Tom, I'm so thankful you are okay! Yes that accident could have been so much worse!! I truly love your house & garage! Your renters are going to be thrilled! (excited to see the color you chose)
Love watching your progress Tom! Please be careful.❤
You’re very lucky to have an understanding wife. And packing up your tools … was that before or after you called for help?? 🤣🤣 Glad you are still mostly in one piece … take care of yourself.
I found I got clutzier as I got older. I’m glad you’re okay. The garage looks great! Somehow makes the house more grounded in the landscape.
As often as I’ve watched the intro in these videos, I still get a chill up my spine every time Tom hits the ground falling off the back of the atv. Yikes!!
Oh my goodness, Tom get a metal finger splint and ice it. The splint will act like a guard cause it will be sore and just like if you stub your toe you will hit it on every thing. Ice, ice baby. Feel better Tom.
It’s really coming together! Please take care of yourself! Hope your finger is healing nicely. 😮🙏🏼
Ouch!!! Thoak God it wasn't worst! Get well soon!
The garage does look great. Very glad that you're not too badly damaged. I admire your can-do spirit.
It's the principle, I guess, Tom, that even if you could avoid accidents in the next 100 years and it does feel to say at times we could do this or that all by ourselves, but in Context, I agree with you - as at least parts of us get wiser 😁 -, some things we see in a different light with experience and we deem them not to be worth it. What's worth it is Family, WellBeing, Health and seeing/hearing/carrying (as capacity goes when you are 220 years old already) your great-great-great-grandchildren and whatever else in whichever order we all choose individually😊 So whenever you feel like "I fly to the roof of the garage" another voice in your head is like "4 kids:)". Not that we ever give up on being kids in some way 😊 Take care of yourselves and each other! All the BEST! Also with your finger recovery ⭐ And: The place looks amazing! AWESOME JOB!
Yikes! Glad you are ok! It’s looking great!
Love how proud you are of yourself for putting up the walls on your own.
Oh Tom😬 Never a dull moment🤦♀️
One wall without windows in a garage would be good. Leave one window out on the house side also.
I agree. Most people like to have storage on one wall of the garage and it would be nice to have a big wall of shelving all along the back. Windows wouldn't allow for that.
It will be fun if it turns out you are building your kid's future homes. Yes, maybe one will want to connect that garage to the house with an expansion for all those grandkids. It is crazy what you have been able to accomplish by yourself, but glad you are having the buddy system for the high stuff!!!
The garage and house are looking great! Hope you heal fast, injuries are such a pain!
Hope your fingers heal quickly.
Looks great! You moved ahead, in spite of difficulties!
Yes safety first. Accidents happen and you need to be prepared for what to do when they happen. Being alone when an accident occurs is problematic. Prepare for what do I do if xyz happens while doing this activity. Mentally assume an accident and know your course of action should it occur. Prayers for quick healing.
My father sometimes shot the nail through the soft tissue between the thumb and the hand, he was a carpenter...
LOVE THE GARAGE AND HOME. THE MATCHING ROOFS MAKES IT PERFECT. BEAUTIFUL!!!! 🎉🎉
Thankful it wasn't a worse injury. The garage and house are looking great!
That is beautiful!! The "cracked house" has always been my favourite.
Prayers for healing. Be patient with the healing; I broke my pinky at the first knuckle 0:06 and it took a full year before the discomfort finally went away. Stay safe🙏🏻
More Tom adventures! That’s why we love to watch, but ever so thankful it wasn’t worse. You are so right - not worth it to take those kinds of avoidable risks. And the house and garage look great!
The garage looks amazing and you are still alive. No matter what, you just keep going.
I’m glad you are recovering from your injury. That said, I do worry that Dawn didn’t pick up until the 4th call. LOL!!! Was she thinking, Oh! It’s just Tom? LOL!!!
It's amazing that you are back at site and videoing after everything else that happened in the day!!!!!
Very timely as I am in the process of doing the same thing, building a detached garage with footings so I have the option of one day attaching it to the house with a covered breezeway, and that makes it very expensive.
