  • I have Malawi cichlids and can attest to that the females keep their fry in the mouth and don't eat anything for several weeks. It's easy to see if they are 'pregnant' but all cichlids are in fact very good parents. A Pelvicachromis pulcher AKA Kribensis even to my surprise attacked me and bit me in the arm when I put it in the aquarium to take care of the plants when they had fry. They behave similar to swans. One stays with the fry while the other one keeps everyone else at a safe distance and they move them around in the aquarium so that they can feed on algae. Every 30 minutes or so the male and the female change places. I've had other types of cichlids over the years and all cichlids are excellent parents that take good care of their fry.

  • You forgot one tiny, yet major fact, about the mother spider. Once the mother is done regurgitating, she starts a dance SPECIFICALLY designed to instill a feeding frenzy into her children. Scientist believe she creates the frenzy so that the children, who had never hunted, learn how to use their fangs, hunt and ultimately feed off of prey.

This really was fascinating to watch, so many amazing facts but elephant mamas who alter their diet to help their babies ailments is phenomenal. Many animals are known to self medicate if they have access to the right leaves, trees or plants, rather like humans who once knew which herbs and leaves would reduce fever, ailments etc. But for the mama elephant to know what she eats affects her baby, that's phenomenal. Not to mention than some humans who certainly should know better ❤️
