    • @doctorno3912 there is a balance between having a UI with black font on white background and a holographic UI with ghosting text, ghosting icons, transparent back ground with lights shining through, moving elements. I cannot understand how anyone could think the first pass of the new UI was decent enough to put it onto the EPTU. CIG made some adjustments, but the new UI including the new star map is still not user friendly or decent.

Chris is making drunken poor decisions. I think if Chris was removed from the the picture, this would be the best game ever.

    • @MultiFishslayer I am 99'% convinced it was Chris who wanted a holographic cool looking cinematic UI. The devs are just doing what Chris tells them to do. Chris only cares about eye candy, fluff, time sinks and cool cinematic. Chris never cares about functionality.

    • 'Star Citizen' is basically 'Freelancer' all over again, before Microsoft stepped in and booted Chris off the project if I recall correctly. Back then he allegedly was spending resources (money and developer efforts) to fuel his perfectionist "my way or the high way" ideals for the game, before Microsoft had to step in cause the project just wouldn't wanna go anywhere with all of CRs busywork.

  • This kinda sh!t happens when, allegedly, everything has to go through and be signed off on by "the man himself" at the top, who from what we're being told apparently likes flashy visuals that may work in a movie environment for short scenes and all, but not when you have to constantly engage with said UI. Same goes for the new 'Distribution Centers' which seem to have no connectivity to any other infrastructure like cities and such. Imagine you were to put one of those big Amazon warehouses in the middle nowhere out in a jungle or desert......that's what those DCs look like to me. Makes exactly ZERO sense. But I digress... the UI, yes, it doesn't look good or "snappy", and I'm concerned that in due time we might have yet another rework, cue to Chris Roberts getting to play a few new game titles that "inspire" him to prompt the devs to rework it yet again to create even more busywork for them.

    @avon_c6199@avon_c619915 күн бұрын
    • What are you talking about? Amazon puts most of its distribution centres out in the middle of nowhere so it's as far away from airports, worker housing, major roads, ports and other distracting infrastructure. (Meanwhile back in reality it's the opposite).

  • Inventory screens, looting screens and radial action wheels, are awfully counter immersive.. Players, through their character avatars, should be able to: - use analog controls, key bindings, macros, and even voice control commands, to interact with objects; - directly, physically interact with objects by means of "scrolling" (with the mouse wheel) their arms out, and reach out to the object (in specif points for specific actions), then click with mouse button to (per ex.) grab, then keep the mouse button pressed to hold the item on the hand, and then, either completely push back the arm to store the item, OR bring it close to their head to (per ex.) drink or eat it, OR move the hand around and inspect it, OR throw it away by swinging the mouse and releasing the mouse button, OR place the item back doing the inverse sequence of actions. - directly, physically move around, grab, handle and frisk loot recipients, click / grab objects in them, pull them out, and if the character has corresponding storage place, then it would be stored automatically; If not, then the item would remain on on the hand. And then the player would decide to either discard it, or discard a stored object and replace it for the new one, or any other option, as long as it is immersive, and there aren't any inventory windows.. - just use analog controls and macros and key bindings (or even voice control commands) to control their character, as they do to control a vehicle. People don't have screens popping up on vehicles to do basic tasks, do they?? When people go to an armory closet, they see little icons tht they can interact with, and they click on them and they grab the corresponding object, and they can then store it. Why can't you do the same with looting recipients?? Why?? Why?? (CIG must physicalize it's game as much as possible, and get rid of those pesky, unimmersive, retro gamee, consolee out of touch, out of universe UIs) - have an AR system that is able to automatically, and realistically, adjust and regulate the fonts for their color or chromatic effects through an adaptive, dynamic and in sync system; and the backgrounds for it's color / brightness / darkness / contrast, as when and where the background is darker/brighter/colored the font becomes brighter/darker/colored differently, gradually, and vice versa.

Also CIG: Here's the PIE, Minimap, dynamic crosshair, mobiglas and Master Modes. Aren't all the tablet game like icons great? Players after playing 3.23 EPTU: "Yeah we definitely need a customizable UI. Its long overdue!"

  • It's a user interface. The ONLY thing that matters is readability. The fact that they think there's an acceptable amount of readability to sacrifice for coolness is the entire problem, because there isn't, that amount is zero percent. Proper UI design means you make it as cool looking as you can WITHOUT sacrificing ANY readability AT ALL. Those are your boundaries as a UI designer. CIG needs to either replace these guys with someone who understands that, or simply have CR issue a mandate to this effect. But that supposes that even CR understands this, and who knows if he does or not.

Chris is literally trying to create something that blends a playable cutscene.. with cutscenes. this company isn't developing a game, they are creating assets for a film.. with the primary focus on visuals. They keep rolling out 'devs' to explain what they are doing, and they all.. without fail.. talk in circles. it is a sad state of affairs, when you can count the number of constructive, honest, SC KZhead creators, on 1 finger. There are those who shill SC, those who hate SC, and then there is Camural! Respect dude o7

  • I actually *do* want a diegetic UI, but this ain't it. An actual universe-driven UI would look like... a normal UI. The shop screens are actually a pretty good example of proper diegetic implementation -- what would the people in this world *actually* use. They wouldn't want goofy effects on their user interface -- they'd want a *usable* user interface. So yeah, if the people in the simulated world would want a plain webpage, then *A PLAIN WEBPAGE IS THE DIEGETIC SOLUTION*.Stupidly "cinematic" UIs that the characters in the game universe would never want to use are the opposite of a believable in-universe interface. Unless we're meant to believe that everyone in the UEE is so brain damaged that they actually prefer to purchase fuzzy unreadable shit rather than gear that has a clean usable interface.
