Andy Anderson: a Short Skate Film

“Balance - the flow of water, and the consistency of concrete. The ground, and the spaces in between. The simplicity of instability, and the complexities of flat ground. Riding the board, face down, face up, and face out. The purposeful objects of the city, plus the joy of play. The corners, sharp and round. Forwards, backwards, and spinning, all coming together.” - Andy Anderson

The video and sound directing were also masterful and helped to capture Andy's movements in a timeless and graceful way. Andy Anderson is my favorite skater not for his accomplishments or exploits, but because he encompasses everything that's beautiful about skateboarding to me.

      @KPark-hn8jf@KPark-hn8jf3 жыл бұрын
    • @@KPark-hn8jf If you’re into skateboarding at all you know that there are much more creative skaters than Andy Anderson and much more artistic skaters. Guys like Evan Smith and Madars Apse (or even like Louie Barletta) are much more creative. Then guys like Dylan Rieder, Austyn Gillette or if you want transition guys Karl Berglind, Curren Caples, Ronnie Sandoval (Jimmy Wilkins needs to be here although vert and transition are somewhat different spheres) who just do stuff that’s beautiful. Honestly Andy Anderson seems kind of gimmicky to me. He does do some cool stuff but he’s not at the level of creativity, style, and difficulty that a lot of other guys are at, and it seems insulting to say that others are athletes while Andy is an artist when he’s less creative and visually appealing (which are the artistic qualities of skateboarding) than a huge number of other skaters.

      @unclesam997@unclesam9973 жыл бұрын
    • @@unclesam997 I think the way he mixes freestyle, transition, and street in itself is an art form. He’s not as steez as could be, and there are more creative skaters (personally, I like richie Jackson); however, I can’t think of any skater that is so versatile with the board. The art to me with Andy is how he can control the board in a very unique way and find comfort/balance in spots where other skaters may be struggling to stay Upright.

      @topxsoul@topxsoul3 жыл бұрын
    • @@topxsoul there are lots of other skaters who are much more versatile on the board. You said you like how he mixes transition and street (and freestyle but no one really does freestyle anymore) but so many guys do that and at a higher level. I mean just look at Daewon Song to bring up an easy example. Daewon is nasty everywhere. Cody McEntire is a great street guy that has super tech transition skills too. And honestly I’d say Evan Smith is the most creative skateboarder right now. Evan doesn’t do bullshit tricks but he still does creative tricks plus Evan is ridiculous in transition. Or Daan Van Der Linden. His street skating is incredible but if you watch him in a bowl it’s just as good (he's on antihero for a reason). Andy Anderson isn’t a horrible skateboarder, but I think he’s getting more hype than deserved.

      @unclesam997@unclesam9973 жыл бұрын
  • The one, single thing that makes me appreciate Andy's style the most is his eclectical admiration for the past. I'm hard pressed now to think about any other contemporary rider who would combine street with the freestyle in such way, let alone with such finesse. Anderson in many ways reminds me of Rodney Mullen back when he transitioned from flat to street, but even now Andy seems to have way more flow than Mullen ever had. But just like Rodney, Andy will change the game forever.
