@@salendrak that's why I've purchased it on my ipad, pc and phone! I only play PC, I didn't like the phone and ipad controlls, however no regrets, I feel good in knowing I've supported deserving devs.
@@shareehocking6294 If you're still struggling with the iPad controls, I highly recommend using a controller! I have an Xbox One controller that makes playing on my iPad 100% easier
Bought Terraria for $2.50 in the 2011 Steam winter sale. Relative lightweight with "only" ~300 hours in the game and am currently enjoying a dontidigup run on expert. All of the awesome quality of life features they always add keep me coming back every big update. Having universal autofire is godsend for all classes and the newly buffed swords have me playing melee for the first time in all these years.
Terraria really is the gift that keeps on giving!
Same beginning part as you, trying to get back into it now… but there’s soooooooo much new stuff it feels like a never ending mountain to climb… my characters still have the purple set with movement speed when I stopped playing years and years ago that was like the best armor in the game lol

Just getting back into this game after my first playthrough some... years ago. I feel like it's a different game and yet... it feels familiar. Like hearing a song you've not listened to in around a decade. This was the kind of video I was looking for cause I've not found an easy way to understand the new stuff added. Thanks! One great feature of the shimmer is that it makes creation of certain accessories such as terraspark boots and ankh shield much easier. For instance, one component needed for terraspark boots is lava charm that is not always easy to find, but shimmer can transform magma stones (that are easily farmed from hellbats) into lava charms. Also, for those paired ankh shield components shimmer can be used to convert surplus components into the other half of the pair.

7:22 I... I just spent an hour freaking out trying to do a last-minute quarantine of what little remained of my jungle after seeing the crimson getting right against it. I heard in one of the other videos that it could ruin a world if the jungle got infected and i hadn't worked on it at all until then. Literally right as i was placing the last blocks to stop the spread i hear this. I'm both incredibly relieved and a little salty. (thank you for these videos btw
Yeah, they changed that pretty soon after I had made my more recent videos about preparing for hardmode and early hardmode progression. I'm a bit salty that they made parts of my videos obsolete so soon after I made them!!
@@salendrak nonetheless those are pretty helpful changes, and your videos as a whole are still extremely helpful. I just recently started playing for the first time and was getting absolutely wrecked in hardmode, your videos helped me survive early hardmode
@@salendrak I realized that my character is ready for hardmode (i.e., can beat the WoF), but I'm currently prepping the world for it. Do I still need to carve out my villages to keep them safe from Crimson/Corruption spread, or is that not an issue? Not 100% sure if this update specifically changed that. Or, is it *just* the jungle I don't need to worry about protecting anymore?

Any plans to do a hardmode pylon guide sometime in the future? Its one of the things that I'm personally most interested in seeing, since I was helpless without the pre hardmode pylon guide. Your guides basically saved my world (and my Terraria wallet) so thanks for that.

@@salendrak I have, but I’m not exactly sure. I remember seeing your spreadsheet for hardmode NPC’s in one of the videos, but that was one hard set spreadsheet. It didn’t have separate options like shown in the pylons video (ex. I put my merchant with my zoologist in the forest instead of another npc) which is why I asked. An in depth explanation would be nice, but I’m not the one putting in the effort to make ‘em lol. Either way, your contents really helpful so thanks for that, and keep it up.

Yes sir I did! That'll make getting an early grappling hook really easy, assuming you can find the shimmer early on...
thanks for telling me that a sundial can skip blood moons and solar eclipses, didn't read enough of the wiki page to know it could do that and could have wasted so many hours
And they even got upgraded recently - now the cooldown resets whenever a natural blood moon or solar eclipse happens, so you can always skip them!
You should please put this on the terraria guide series Edit: I was literally playing terraria and I was notified this video was just posted. Ironically I created a new world and character the same day to explore 1.4.4

Smart Cursor. On PC the hotkey to toggle it on or off is LCTRL. Not sure how you do it on other platforms, but check the game options menu and you'll find it in there somewhere!
Could you make a progression guide on the Don't Dig Up seed?
I might at some point, but I would probably want to finish the main guide series first. So don't hold your breath!!
The really fixed all of our pain in the game with 1.4 and this update.

hey man, could you play tell me how you highlight blocks. for example so i can see if its 1x8 ect ect. Ive seen you do it in a few of your games?
There's a build in ruler utility function you can toggle on and off. On PC, look for little buttons along the top-left side of the screen when your inventory is open. Not sure how to do it on other platforms though...

Is it true breaking demon alters doesn’t spawn corrupt blocks anymore so I completely overprepared for hardmode so I missed out on getting leaf wings early in my first playthrough
Yup - they totally changed that! Doing at least some containment is still a good idea, especially your world's original evil areas and any villages near where the V is. As for leaf wings, RIP!

yes, do try way hard things when I have yet to even finish once on Journey. I did dig myself into a hole in my run starting the cultist who was fine, but then I tried one of the zone, that I was in when I killed the cultist which was confusing... and when I did eventually die it turned out that my base in the middle of my world was in another zone that killed me so many times my base turned into a graveyard. Yes I was not having any success. So I watched a video, and was like that nice he created a recover spot then attacked and withdrew, except that was't how my game went. I watched a starter video or something and realized I could turn off spawning, which did NOT remove all the monsters but it did lower them maybe enough, so yeah under the assumption that this run was going to kill me repeatedly I turned on god mode and played through the 4 towers then logged off because the intent was not to win by cheating but just reset the duncion to pre-cultist. Between death and clearing the world I started two new worlds a large, and then a medium, and I decided to stay on the medium, so I mean the big goal is to get some more accessories and get the bottle armor and a new sword and maybe a new magic and ranged weapon optionally. Hmmm the hero sword eh, man I feel kind of overwhelmed. Anyway I'm sure I will eventually get a win in easy mode. Then maybe I can clear out my worlds and items and take a new run on classic, I think I have a lot to learn and to figure out by doing :)

Yeah, they really didn't get anything new. Though I think they'll feel better to play throughout the game with the mana changes.

Not entirely useless as it still increases attack speed. But not quite as compelling as it used to be for sure!

Depends! If you don't care about the jungle getting infected, then don't bother. But if you want your jungle to stay pure, you'll want to protect it. It really comes down to personal preference though, as I can't think of any particularly compelling reason why you would _need_ to go one way or the other.

I don't know if I'm right on this, but I feel like biome mimics have had there AI changed. It feels easier to fight them now than it was before the update. Anyone else felt the same?

Uhhh i smashed a couple of altars and there is still some demonite/ebostone growing underground near the underworld and marble biomes
Is that in a new world that you created after the Labor of Love came out, or an older world from before that was already in hardmode with smashed altars? Even if it was after the update, it is normal for there to be small patches of Demonite ore spread throughout the world. There shouldn't be any ebonstone near it though, and Demonite doesn't spread corruption.

Yes - IF you are playing on a modern console like Switch, PS4, XBoxOne! Old-gen consoles stopped getting updates a long time ago, so if you're on Xbox360, PSVita, PS3, or WiiU you won't have this update. Nintendo 3ds is also a different older version.
Not a fan that they nerfed Obsidian Armor again. I just wish they'd make a whip-based armor; they're so much fun.
You gotta admit though - it _was_ a bit OP compared to other gear available at that stage. I think it's more balanced now, but haven't tested it yet on any pre-hardmode bosses except Expert Queen Bee for the video, where it still did just fine!

The refuelable orange amulet was the thing I really wanted to come true (I even used reduelable magic but that enables way too many things) so after I heard about it I returned. The labor of love brought me back to terraria too, however I have tried the calamity mod since we met last time. The video what you made was amazing though, it's quick and mentions almost everything about the update. I missed watching you :)

Since Solar and Nebula are overall nerfed. now Vortex and Stardust are harder than both of them, especially then Vortex.
