Yes, it's a plot choice so Qui-Gon can die, but they both literally did that exact thing to escape from the destroyer droids earlier in the movie.
The fact that Finn's spine not only still existed but was completely functional after every single vertebra came into direct contact with a lightsaber so powerful and unstable it had to vent parts of the blade out the side is proof enough that Disney has no idea what the hell they're doing.

George Lucas originally wanted to call them laser swords. He was rightfully talked out of it, insofar as "light saber" has become far more memorable and iconic, even though they in no way resemble actual sabers. But he couldn't resist sprinkling his original name for them into the prequels, which is why young Anakin calls it a laser sword. And really, laser sword is a much more accurate but less poetic name. Apart from that point, l agree that Disney doesn't understand light sabers or really anything else about SW.

@@regularman5914Jesus fucking Christ. If you say that you have no actual understanding of the lightsabers. They are not just laser swords. The blade is generated by the cyber crystal, which is connected through the force with the one who found it and used it to create the saber. The crystal is the reflection of it's user, and the user can only get the crystal if they are force sensetive and only through a trial that helps them to become a better person. If you’re not the original user the weapon will feel heavy and it will resist your will. The hilt itself also reflects the user. I find your lack of understanding disturbing.

Just some comments I'd like to make. I can see a lightsaber doing surface level damage if it just "barely" touches someone, it is a little odd to see it happen so often. Another thing, it has never been the case that you need to be force sensitive to weild a lightsaber. It's just that without the force making one without it exploding is near impossible, so Anakins sabre should have stayed broken. Also the way they work gives them extremely weird momentum, which is why you don't see many non-force sensitives picking one up.

He was wounded pretty badly. So badly in fact that it’s understandable that an untrained Rey could have beaten him. The fact that he did so well while injured is impressive.
I think the entire sequel series would have been better if Rey struggled with using the light saber as a sword and then retrofitted it onto the end of her staff and used it as a spear. I think that simple ideological change would have not only improved the series just through rippling better story arcs, but it also would have made more sense for her, and it would have made sense how Finn could use it since a spear is MUCH closer to that baton thing we see that apparently FO troops are trained with.

I think they told Ewan and Ray to slow down, because they thought the viewers might think the fight wasn't real.
the difference in choreography is that in the prequels they were designing the fights to look like one person was actually trying to kill the other, and then had the other person just defend before switching around who was attacking and who was defending in a sequence. it looks like real fighting that way, with realistic looking attacks, blocks and counters. But it also means the actors are more at risk of getting a whack from teh prop sticks, as well as they have to work harder on the routine to not actually whack each other. in the sequels they were lazy and playing safe so the choreography was designed more theatrical in style where the attackers attack the actor's weapon not the actor. and yeah it looks like shit.

Who else thinks that George Lucas regrets selling Star Wars now?
Nah. He knew there was nothing else to do with it and sold it. He did keep the toy rights though.
Why would he regret making shit tons of money
It wasn't all bad. Now Jedi Fallen Order exists.
Mallchad Fallen Order man, what an amazing fucking game! Cal is the man
George Lucas himself said he feels betrayed by what Disney did
Imagine thinking the lightsaber is anyone else’s but Anakins. It’s not Luke’s and it’s sure as shit not Reys.
Be he's dead, so it would be his son's right?
@@joshuadixon8510 it stays with the person who made it but if we wanted to do it the legal way it still wouldnt be his
At least Luke had it for a reason, there was meaning and it was a family treasure. Wtf did Rey do? Rey ‘skywalker’ my ass. Hate the sequels they literally have no context with the rest of Star Wars
Rey and Ben destroying it was rather symbolic... and not in a good way
I think it was because she was the user at the time, but they should change it back because she has her own
Luke: "What is it?" R2-D2: "The Youngling Killer 3000!" Obi-Wan: "Your father's lightsaber ..."
Oh boy if you thought the trilogy lightsabres weren't understood, you should see the Kenobi show, Reva gets stabbed twice and the Grand Inquisitor once (which should cook their insides and cause major internal bleeding leading to death) but barely did anything with both surviving like nothing happened 🤦
everyone: has a lightsaber form everyone in sequel trilogy: *swing swing*
ITs mOrE gRoUnDEd aND rEaLiStiC Just as realistic as the force and Jedi

@@AImighty_Loaf lmao realistic? Train someone in fencing and let’s see if it’s “realistic”
Disney should at least respect the weapon that made me lose all my limbs
Exactly! Anakin was always my fav. Character and will always be the true Chosen One for me!
Right you are. Dead you are. Half a robot you are.
Disney.

Anakin and Yoda in a single comment thread.? Allow me to insert myself in here....
Light Saber fights were definitely the most fun part of seeing the prequals in the theatre; The red armor was always canon light saber resistant but the other points are valid, plus Finn being force sensitive could of helped.
Red armor was always canon light saber resistant? Whatg is your source for that claim?
I dont think its that disney doesnt understand lightsabers, but they also made plot armor sk strong that not even lightsabers can renitrate through.
I went to Disney world and I asked to see Anakin lightsaber. The girl working the store was confused. She said they didn’t have Anakin’s lightsaber because it was “lost.” I then pointed to Anakin’s lightsaber, I simply said “That’s the one.” The girl behind the counter looked at me and said “Oh! You mean Rey’s lightsaber!” This was after episode nine came out too. Where we see Rey has her own saber. Anakin’s lightsaber is Anakin’s lightsaber. No one else’s.
You are speaking facts, it is anakins lightsaber, just anakins not one else’s
Farkkkkk I woulda started throwing hands
It's Anakin's, he built it. It will always be Anakin's saber no matter who owns it.
It’s actually Wattos
You sad sad man
Star Wars Lore: So there are 7 forms of Lightsaber Combat, there’s- Sequels: Ight so I started swinging
I’m a better duelist than Rey, and I’ve never picked up a real sword!
Just mash the X button until your opponent's defence breaks and then one shot them with another x mash.....

Who would have taught them the 7 forms of lightsaber combat if all knowledge of it was wiped out with o66
"Light saber its a light saber, laser sword, did you hear yourself?" ~ F. Tony, Spaceforce
"Excalibur is just a sword"
To be fair Anakins eye scar was also delivered by a lightsaber, so was wolffes blinded eye and no one complained about those
This is a classic example of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”
It's also a classic example of beating a good horse until it's dead, and then proceeding to beat a dead horse.
movie studios don't follow that Anymore

we should just pretend that the last 3 movies didnt happen and be like "whose rey???" until disney is forced to get rid of the sequels

The whole trilogy really killed Star Wars for me… at least the mandalorian and those side tv series have been really really good. They kinda have to make another trilogy to put episode 789 behind us once n for all. Whatever director made the mandalorian should be in control.

@George Gobin Too late, Star Trek sucks now too. Only thing I have to look forward to is the next season of Lost in Space.
i need to watch a full breakdown of that throne room fight scene because that shit is fuckin' hilarious

I remember having one “friend” in primary school who thought lightsabers were called “life savers” and thought Star Wars was set in the future. But he still understood Star Wars a lot more than Disney.
This is what the kids call a "sick burn."
I used to call them life savers as well
I had called them life savers until I was 4. Then I felt real stupid when I found out they were light sabers

Raspberry Jam the lightsaber combat in these movies feels heavy it that makes sense. Like each hit has real impact. It’s actually pretty good the few times that it’s there
God this aged remarkably well especially with Ashoka episode 4
Disney doesn’t understand the creative process. If it’s not a shot for shot remake then they think the only way to “progress” an IP is to annihilate what came before, whether it was or a superior quality is irrelevant! It must be destroyed!
Disney doesnt understand star wars as a whole.
i understand that
*flashes back to lightspeed ram* *fuckin' wut*
Its pretty damn sad. The visuals along with a story like the OTs would have been perfect.
Disney understands money, not art.
Gfors85 Yeah, this. They look at Star Wars, and all they she is a franchise that hasn’t been milked to death. Though I guess it has been, now.
Vader makes it look like his lightsabre is light and he's in control, kylo makes it look like he's carrying a sledge hammer
Joe Calver to be fair it does look good the way kylo swings it like he does it kind of suits him
@@bxnkilla9680 yeah sort of, I always thought the elegancy of how darth Vader used his was more intimidating and makes him look better at using lightsabre than kylo
For real
@@bxnkilla9680 I have to diagree with you. A sword or light saber should not be used as a baseball bat. Everyone who even has the slightest knowlege of propper swordsmanship would know that. He uses highly telegraphed swings and never holds a propper guard. He should be dead within two seconds fighting someone who has traning with anny wepon. I dont think that suits a guy that should at leat have a couple years of training.
@@bk_______ I think it is supposed to show his cocky attitude. Its a sort of ennui flavor to show he is bored and annoyed to have to bother with an actual fight. His personality type wouldn't tolerate being trained for precision when he can force push/choke most any opponent who was more skilled. Also something neglected to consider when judging fights or individual skills is the invisible force against force struggles. Perhaps many moves are being played out and cancelled at that level and the physical swings are just the only gap that is found by an opponent at that time. Would explain some of what seem to be poor choices or lack of defense if one swing is really preceded by multiple virtual parrys ... Or in the case of as force user against a non user it could be that they were briefly immobilized - like that Rey vs missing blade guy. At least that is what I would say if i was responsible for that crappy scene.
Even as a 9 year old when i watched "the rise of skywalker" i still could point out a bunch of dumb stuff the producers left in. like when rey does a backflip and slices kylo's tiefighter with her lightsaber, the thing tumbles for about a mile before exploding and kylo just walks away without a scratch.
So? In Star Wars Rebels Season 2 opener The Siege of Lothal, the Specters on a shuttle which gets shot down and nose dives at a rather steep angle into the ground, but the shuttle is just scratched by the impact and the Specters are unscathed. It's a common thing in the entirety of Star Wars
@@EpicJoshua314 well rebels is mid so that doesn’t count
@@seva7500 🤨
None of the movies understood how light sabers could be used. Most of the time they were swinging to hit the other person's weapon for shiny effects, not for a kill. Also, turning a light saber on/off several times in battle would make quick work of your opponent. Let them slash through were your saber was, point it at the idiot and turn it back on. Instant shish kebab.
Underrated comment
that whole turning on and off the lightsaber was actually a form hated by both sith and jedi so it was one of the rarest forms
To add to this, none of the movies were able to keep consistent on how powerful lightsabers are. Vader fails to cut through a handrail then easily slices through heavy machinery and Luke's arm. In VI lightsabers bounce off of handrails in the throne room and then cut through an identical handrail in the same scene.
@@dallonpainter2674 Thing is, the movies were made 40 years ago 1977-1983. Not everything was perfect. While these are modern day movies made by one of the biggest companies on this very Earth.
Luke was the one who did the unthinkable, bringing vader back to light. He failed many times but didn't lose hope. But he lost hope to bring Kylo back and went to hiding like a coward. This is not luke.
I'm ashamed with digmoney (disney)
