Hey guys, in this Restoration Video I restored an old 'Adriance' Wrench. Its an adjustable Wrench from around 1930. When i got the wrench, the wooden handle was broken, it was pretty rusty and the mechanism was stuck. So I disassembled this old tool and restored all the metal parts by welding, filing, sanding and grinding. Theres a nut sitting on the tang, it was completely destroyed. So i made a new one. The wooden handle was also made new from a piece of ashwood.
The adjustable wrench works well now :-)

  • Need to bevel each end before you weld for a more stronger weld. It won’t be long before that weld fails. It’s easy to see when you grind it down. Other than that, great work!

  • Great job, When you chopped the threaded end off, I would of chopped it a bit further down . Then drilled and tapped the end and used a fully threaded bolt and screwed it in then welded it. That part needs to be strong, if it's going to be used.

  • Nice job and a pleasure to watch. Bit surprised at the beginning you didn’t try heating the stiff nut with a blowtorch to expand it. May have saved damaging it. Also recutting the threads on shaft and nut. Might have been better than doing the welding job which I don’t see will be strong enough to hold the parts together when using the wrench and will break over a period of time.

  • truly skilled work.............nice job, real nice. This is more of a reconditioning than restoration.......... The name should have stayed as originally punched and the handle could have easily been straightened and those threads could have been dressed up......... the new handle could have been the only replaced part. But your skills are top shelf. Thank you for letting us in to see.

  • 6:33 when welding tool's arm like this one, it's better to plan for a conical cut of the two sides and rude prepa of the surface and fill the whole space with welding matter, it provide more grip and solidity, i am sure you know that but you didn't apply it because perhaps you think there's no huge tension on this arm, anyway great work as usual and your metal hand file skills and controls are outstanding

  • Beautiful restoration. Second on heavily chamfering edges on your welds. It gives you MUCH deeper weld penetration for welds that are almost always stronger than the surrounding material. All that aside that wrench probably looks better than it did the day it was made.

  • Wow, another one I thought was beyond saving, awesome job, quite probably better than new. Neat idea to use the chuck stock of the lathe to brace the thread cutter square on to the handle shaft. Good comment re the weld, bevelling the edges prior to welding gives a channel around the join for the weld material to accumulate into hence stronger weld.
