That's why it's called asymmetric warfare. On the one hand, multi-million weapons with expensively trained personnel, on the other, relatively cheap weapons that can be operated by talented and fanatical teenagers. Guess who´s winning.
The Yemenis of course. As Biden admitted that the strikes are not working and the State Department new statement mulls at diplomacy citing that military action will not achieve anything.

Winning means achieving your political objectives. If their objective is just to gain clout by poking the US, sure. If it's to change US foreign policy - they can spend the rest of their lives taking potshots and that's not going to happen.

We're talking about asymmetrical warfare, yet don't discount the Houthis. Remember history has taught us the underdogs can lose the battles but still win the war. America vs UK, NVA vs USA, Afghan vs USSR and USA, Somalia vs USA.

Very true. It's a very tricky game here. Militarily, the US crushed the North Vietnamese and Taliban, but they lost politically in the long run.
I had a similar conversation when I was in Jordan recently, but before the more-recent escalation in regional hostilities. The man I was speaking to pointed out that two regions on earth that could never fall to outsiders are Afghanistan and Yemen. He explained that the combination of culture and geography in these areas creates regions that will resist and resist and resist until external aggressors lose the strategic initiative and the will to fight.
In fact, the United States could station troops in Afghanistan for a long time, but it gave up.

So .. with all those powerful toys .. why Houthis keep launching missiles ?
Partly to drain the expensive resources that are far more difficult to deliver and replenish. It appears tactical at the very least. They also seem to use a “shock, awe, and overwhelm” method to their particular variety of madness. It seems more calculated than it first appears or they are idiots simply throwing everything they have with the hopes and intentions that Iran will keep a less expensive offensive supply up via a “bottomless cup.” Their “surprise attack” on Israel not long ago where only ~1% got through spoke volumes about their planning or lack thereof. They are either geniuses and crazy, or morons and desperate. I’m just not certain which yet.
lol @1:50 he calls it a 'pocket of yemen they control', google 'houthi controlled yemen' and 'yemen population density map' and you will find they overlap.
We need AWACS in a networked drone system that can autonomously loiter land recharge and take back off. Palmer Lucky has some interesting new weapons featuring a Lattice network.
So some conclusions. The weapons of the West, despite all their technical perfection (or rather precisely because of their technical perfection), are inferior to the weapons used by the Houthis in effectiveness. And here we are not even talking about hitting targets. The Houthis turn out to be the winners when their missile, at a cost of ten thousand dollars, is fired several anti-missiles, at a cost of up to a million dollars. Their winning strategy is to force the United States to use its weapons as often as possible. The degree of risk, even if most Houthi attacks are repelled, some of them reach the target. And it pays off not even because of the huge gap in price between the tool used and the target it hits. And due to the fact that the possibility of suffering from such an attack makes the risk of sailing there unacceptable for peaceful vessels. It looks like a losing situation.

Tomahawks haven't been armed with nuclear warheads since the 80's
I served in the Surface Warfare community, but know enough about SSGN ‘s [sic] to tell you that it was the mid-2000s when the Ohio Class subs were upgraded from the Cold War era Tridents to Tomahawks with the exception of two tubes that were used specifically for SEAL/SDV use. This is all Unclassified, BTW.
@@jayrose6312 right, but they're all conventionally armed. The nuclear variants were withdrawn at the end of the 1980's or very early 90's with the warheads themselves being dismantled by 2011. (And not all of the Ohio's [4] were converted)
@@GenPatton0043 You may be thinking about those subs themselves being designated for phase out with the advent of the Seawolf and Virginia Class subs. We definitely did minimize our stockpile of nuclear weapons in general, but deterrence is still a huge part of our overall national security infrastructure and defense methodology. It’s unclassified as our basic nuclear triad is very capable and stronger than ever even with less quantity. Think about it like the nuclear reactors onboard naval vessels as that makes a great example. The Enterprise had 8 reactors, but they came nowhere close to the power output of let’s say the dual reactor system on the George Washington half a century or so later. It’s really an over simplification, but a nuclear power school instructor (I was in the pipeline, BTW, way back in 1996) said to me to look at those 8 reactors like D Cell batteries, you may get 12V total, but EACH reactor on a Nimitz Class is likened to a 12V lantern battery. Just ONE matches the voltage and has a respectable amp-hours amount right off the bat! The same held true for Fat Man and Little Boy, but the scale was far more, um, exponential. Now, a quick rule of thumb that I learned for which subs were armed with nuclear warheads, again for deterrence, was by the designation. All modern subs are nuclear powered, hence “SSN” (SS+N), however the “G” is added for “guided nuclear misses” and “B” for the “ballistic” nuclear variety used as part of our nations overall nuclear triad. There’s actually a ton, still unclassified and VERY interesting that goes into it, such as the use of VLF radios that work damn near anywhere on the planet. Also, contrary to popular belief, the “targets” are not preset, but provided on a secure channel along with orders and then it takes two senior officers in command to confirm the hash only, the rest is deciphered in realtime! This is a quick process, has failsafes, is part of the overall triad, and has kept our country safe since its inception. You could Google most of this, but the algorithm won’t let me post specific links anymore without deleting my entire longwinded post. Just checkout the designations and go from there! Finally, do a search on the “Pantex Plant” and it’ll blow your mind!

Please entertain us: when was a congressional declaration of war given (i.e., following the supreme law of the land--the US constitution)? That's right, it never was. The US hasn't won a war since WWII (joint victory), which was the last engagement formally declared by congress (i.e., constitutionally legal). Every conflict, war, and engagement since then has been unconstitutional and illegal. interestingly, all these have put the US on the losing side as well. Why? Money and resources. Shalom!

The massive size of these ships compared to a single jet that may use such defenses makes the ship too large a target for it to be effective. Far too much to lock-on to. The CIWS is an awesome ship’s defense beast and VERY effective when used properly with modern radar as the last line of defense. Generally a ship will have more than one, they work in conjunctions with electronics weapons systems and radar, but are controlled by an operations specialist trained in their use. They shoot thousands of depleted uranium bullets per minute with tracers and could be very effective at simply overwhelming the missile before making direct contact! They look like a big R2D2, hence we used that nickname for the CIWS when I was in. 😊

If the US wants to impress me - they should design an effective Air defense system, that is cheap and mass produced. Then no one would bother attacking as the current strategy is use cheap mass produced armaments, causing an immense finacial cost to counter. Repeated cheap attacks will drain the bank eventually as the home front wants more schools and hosiptals, and less spent on defending other nations.
