Subaru DCCD Differential Rebuild

We are rebuilding the DCCD center differential in Nic's STI swapped Subaru Impreza! Mooresport out of Quebec Canada makes the replacement clutch pack that we used in this video. Rebuilding the center diff saved a lot of money compared to replacing the whole unit.

  • Sweet video! One correction/clarifying comment: At 8:55, you say "...these planetary gears are just for centering the whole clutch assembly..." Actually, the planetary gears are what determine the basic torque split between the front and rear axles. With the DCCD clutches open/no current to the coil, the center diff is open, and the planetary gears are designed to split torque approximately 60/40, with a rear bias (exact split can vary slightly depending on model year). Just wanted to throw that out there!

  • Only video I've been able to find on rebuilding one of these! Will definitely come in handy for when I convert my Bugeye to 6 speed and rebuild the center diff

    • Good luck. Did an 04 6 speed swap on my Bugeye back in '15. First drive had a terrible sound so pulled the tail shaft housing off, replaced all the bearings and ended up swapping in a known working DCCD just in case. My budget swap turned way more expensive due to the parts I replaced. Those bearings are $$. Still have the other DCCD and may entertain rebuilding it now.

  • Thank you for the breakdown (No pun intended) of the DCCD!! I look forward to the time my STI will Need this upgrade, for now I have an understanding of the components in their. ?? Question... I have always (since I bought the car with the very low 95,000 miles on it for a 2005) had a Very tight shift, meaning going in an out of any gear, any time, it takes a little effort... Any thoughts on her issue?? It is very stock and probably not raced in her life. Cheers mate ✌🏼

I'm having a similar problem with my 96 ra but I'm not sure if that shim kit you purchased would work for my 96, and I cant seem to find info on weather the center diff changes from 96 gen up to the 2002 gen and newer .the kit they sell says its for 2002-2005

  • Question. I know this is an old video. Concerning the center dccd if bad. I checked my MAPdccd settings and everything looks good but I am now experiencing some weird lunging feeling when doing power pulls. Almost like the front and rear wheels are fighting. I'm thinking my center DCCD is shot. She's 800hp and only started the past month or so.

  • What probably happens if the center diff is clicking and bad, but it's still driven? Does it stop putting power to the rear wheels eventually? Or the front wheels?

  • does the dyno have the roller lock together with a drive chain or something so power can be applied to both rollers? just wondering because that would blow up the new center diff too.

    @woodzy575@woodzy5755 жыл бұрын
    • It’s a Subaru specialty shop. The dyno didn’t blow the diff. Years of abuse on the drivetrain from the owner of the donor car wore it out.

    • Des contact Corgiworx in Sydney they rebuild the centre diffs. Your centre diff is completely different to this centre. Its a silicone fluid that Toyota supply, Subaru dealers can not supply this as a spare part / fluid.

  • My 2009 sti has a binding issue at slow speed when turning, if you walk the car with clutch only while turning you can feel the car slowly come to a halt. Makes a very unpleasant noise as well. I've narrowed it down to the center diff, but unsure if it could be something else within the drivetrain. Any suggestions?

I ended up swapping in another DCCD along with replacing the bearings in the tail shaft housing. ~$1000 later and the issue was resolved. Not sure if it was the DCCD or bearings in the end. • @@TIRESIDE Maybe you have an idea - I lifted STI yesterday with a floor plate lifter - and made the movement in first gear and in reverse, while completely turning the steering wheel - there was no noise. The hum sound only appears when the car has a load on the ground. Another interesting feature is that there is a hum sound even in neutral gear.
