  • His achievements on the ice are no secret, but one of the things Sid doesn't get enough credit for is professionalism. No trade demands, no lengthy drawn out contract disputes, no drama in the media, and very little on ice controversies or suspensions (besides Methot lol). He just plays hockey and focuses on perfecting his craft. He is a great role model for everyone, not just hockey players.

Can't expect a rookie that everyone places all their expectations on - not just in terms of performance, but in terms of leadership - to not be vocal about a lot of stuff he sees or gets. But I think a lot of hockey fans too would like to see Sid as the captain of a veteran team hoist it one more time. When he lost in 08 it was a story line series of the young up and comers against a grizzled veteran team. There'd just something poetic about him going out on top as the grizzled veteran team against one of the up and coming young teams.

  • Fell in love with Penguins and hockey when i moved to Pennsylvania from Arizona when i was 12. I’m 43 now and I can’t explain how lucky we are here in Pittsburgh to have had 2 of the biggest legends of the game with Mario and Sid..so many other great players we’ve had the pleasure to watch in a Pens jersey. I’ve also witnessed 5 Championships because of those 2 in large part. It was so difficult watching what Mario had to go through health wise. Sid’s career was in doubt with his head injuries…i can NOT believe he may be retired in 3 yrs from now..where in hell did time go? It seems a bit weird to a lot of people but i know i’m going to cry when it’s over for Sid. I did when Mario retired twice and when Fleury came back in that first game with Vegas, glad i got to go to that game.

  • He’s def playing more than 3 years by that answer. His whole brand is not giving anything away but I’d guarantee he’ll be the last one to retire out of Malkin and Letang. Maybe I’m being too optimistic but he’s been consistently top 5 at everything his entire career and I don’t see that declining in 3 years. I think if he stays healthy, he won’t have any reason to retire yet.

  • Hockey's good will ambassador. I think 3 years is a good plan, he'll not just hang around with his skills diminished. When it is time to go, he'll go. He should go into the hall the day after he hangs up his skates, if I had my way.

    • That Crosby is going into the HOF is not even a debate buddy, he will be a first ballot without a sweat, the guy is top 5 atleast of all time, might even be higher.

  • I hope the NHL does the smart thing, and makes him the head of PR. Sid has went a lifetime of hockey spotlights, and not once, have we had to deal with character flaws. He has conducted himself in a manner that everyone could easily be understood as being envious of. He is a true ambassador to the game of hockey and also how to carry yourself as a man.
