If you think Toews, Hossa, Kane, Keith, Seabrook were doing that crap to their teammates at practice or were having guys traded for annoying them, you are very wrong. That isn't championship culture stuff in the NHL. It barely flies in the NBA, and only does where it does bc in that sport a single player can literally control everything and make you a dynasty. It's not like that in hockey. Hockey is a team sport and a culture sport. What Zadorov describes from Mackinnon is stuff that is very bad for a team.

Mitch Marner makes more money per year than Connor McDavid, has scored 5 goals in the playoffs total (over 5 seasons!), actually cost the Leafs entire games with his awful plays (who misses the entire rink when trying to clear the puck in a 4 vs 5 situation??) and nothing ever changes and we're supposed to "let it go"? I think it's beyond time to let Mitch Marner go. I am pretty sure we can find 10 guys more valuable than Mitch Marner with the same or lower salary. I wouldn't mind so much if he was valued at 5-6 million (he IS good in the regular season, no doubt about it), but when he's eating up 20% of the team's total salary cap for the results he's getting.. I'm not getting over it soon.

Factoring in the rest of the injuries-the most man games lost of any defending champ since they started keeping track of that...its really amazing they even made the playoffs again...let alone sit 1st in the central with 6 games left.(cuz we have a game in hand on Minny,& Dallas) Forget losing Kadri,& Burky last summer. We all want them to repeat as fans, but theyve shown great resilience even making it back with a shot to defend their title. Yes,playing in the far inferior conference helps,& NOBODY wants to play em 1st round-they are still the most talented in the west,if reasonably healthy. I love their chances to get back to wcfs-then i think we could easily see a Edmonton-Colorado rematch. And if they get back to the Finals, there are a few Eastern teams Id favor over them. But they absolutely would have a shot-whoever wins the east would much rather see anybody else but the deffending champs waiting. I have no doubt bout that.

If you're talented own it don't be a d**k just own it being too humble almost seems fake cheesy to say the least.

  • What Zadorov's comments tell me is that he's completely ignorant about what good leadership looks like and actually conduces to winning big in the NHL. Mackinnon's abuse of his teammates is not good leadership at all. Zadorov said all this stupidity after a year playing w Patrick Kane, whose teams actually HAVE won big, as big as you can win. Several times. Kane and everyone else on that Hawks team was nothing like Mackinnon is described as being. They had high standards for themselves and each other but no single star player who was arrogantly hassling teammates. The bad cop there was - the coach, Q, and even he was more like a father figure type than a true hardass. Based on Zadorov's description I doubt the Lanche will ever win anything. They're choking for a good reason. Bad locker room, which Zadorov has mistaken for a good winning locker room culture. No. A superstar who abuses teammates constantly is a recipe for tight play in big spots. It creates the opposite of the team=family atmosphere that results in champions. It can also, if this gets around and is known, make it a less attractive destination for FA and for veterans looking to win. No vet wants to deal w this crap. I'd love to hear Brandon Saad's experience from last year, knowing he was also on the dominant Hawks teams. He would know the difference between championship cultures and not, unlike Zadorov.

    • @@Treehouse1230 I think I do. I think you can expect a continued avalanche of annual choke jobs in the playoffs from this team. No great champion and certainly no dynasty in hockey has ever had a superstar player who big shots his teammates, bullies them in practice and games, and gets them traded if they annoy him. This isn't the NBA. Hockey is a TEAM CULTURE sport.

    • @@QuinnHockey412 Colorado is known for extremely tight play in big playoff series resulting in annual choke jobs. This can happen when you have a 'team leader' superstar who spends all year harassing teammates at practice and on the ice for casual mistakes, and who has players traded for not living up to his standards. If that bit Zadorov mentioned is true, Colorado has an institutional problem that goes all the way to the GM, who is letting a player run the franchise.
