American 4x4 Trucks in Oz - Hummer vs Jeep - Nitto Challenge

2017 ж. 27 Қаз.

In this 4x4 video we have two iconic American trucks battle it out at Wheeny Creek aka Gees Arms South Trail. These two beasts of the 4x4 world go head to head choosing the most difficult lines and in some cases opening up new lines.
Both the Hummer H1 and Jeep Wrangler JK are both running Nitto tyres. The Hummer is sporting 40 inch Nitto Trail Grappler tires while the Jeep Wrangler is running 37 inch Nitto Mud Grapplers tyres.
The Hummer H1 is pretty much a standard 1996 model with some Alpha bits and pieces. the 40 inch tyres fit with no lift. Its still running the standard Torsen Diffs. It has a custom made front swing down bar with a Warn high mount winch.
The Jeep Wrangler JK 2 door is sitting on a 3 inch lift and is twin locked with ARB air lockers. The front has a Dana 44 diff and the rear is a Dana 60 high clearance unit.
Both trucks performed exceptionally well. We had a blast of a day and hope you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed the trip. Be sure to subscribe for more 4x4 videos and feel free to comment and share. Dont forget to give us a thumbs up if you liked the video.

  • Hey guys check out our latest video where this Hummer takes on a well built JKU. kzhead.info/sun/oq1vhrOsmotupnk/bejne.html Its an interesting battle as the wheelbases of both trucks are more similar than this match up.

In more technical terrain where wheels lose contact, it requires constant brake input to manage wheel spin, there's still always going to be some, and not as good as fully locking diffs on rock crawling. The other problem H1s have is the independent suspension, like a Baja racer, it's best for high speed invasion across dunes, not as good as solid axles for this rock crawling terrain. Long wheelbase is good and bad, stability going up a hill, but gets hung up easy

However, since they don’t have any flex in the drivetrain they spent a great deal of time on only three wheels. Also due to low ground clearance and long wheelbase, they became high-centered quite a bit.

    • Cesar Mercado sorta the 4.0 inline 6 started life in the YJ which is the mid to late 80's to mid 90's "squared light" wrangler and it also last the whole life of the Tj series of wrangler from 96-06 which had round headlights like this jeep but the parking lights were rectangular and on the fenders. This jeep is a JK variant 07-17 the little round lights on the grill are the parking lights

    • keeping in mind....the jeep was modified for this....lockers, ect. And the Hummer is an all terrain truck, not only rock crawling, and looked pretty stock. Not to mention one long ass wheel base... I was very impressed with the hummer. I was however, alittle thrown off at the Hummers lack of articulation. I expected more for some reason

      @mattsez2879@mattsez28796 жыл бұрын

    • ok....more wheel travil. as i said, i know its ALL terrain, not rock crawling only. I just expected the tires to have more down ward reach when the Hummer was off kilter. Still did awesome

  • Given that the Hummer has a wheelbase about as long as a school bus, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it did so well and was never high-centered. This test also attests to the military's selection of the Torsen differential possibly being an even better differential than a locker

    • Not sure if this is a joke or not, but funny non the less. A hummer is not even close to as capable being that it has independent front suspension. There isn't even a comparison vs a rubicon with disconnect swing arm. Yes jeeps drive like shit dur to the solid front axel but nothing can even come close, and I mean nothing. Not to mention the H1 weighs a lot more, probably double.

    • @Jason Davis eh. HMMWV was designed with emphasis on fixing jeeps stability and cargo issues. I would probably bet on the H1 in a straight climb. Getting over the top, that i might question.
