  • Even though he never defended his belts, the way he just starched Aldo (who was pretty much undefeated in 10 years before that) for the FW belt and the absolute clinic he put on Alvarez for the LW belt were two of the most incredible championship performances I've ever seen.

    • Yeah man during those three years (let’s not forget he went 10 rounds with Mayweather in a boxing match) he was the goat. No one’s ever had a run like that, it’s just a shame he’s been doing business and not taking the fighting as seriously as he used to. • They were great performances but styles made fights. Both of them fights suited Conor almost perfectly. Aldo had gotten into a bad habit of not using what got him to the dance. He stopped throwing leg kicks anywhere nearly as often as his WEC and early UFC days, stopped really going for takedown or clinches. McGregor literally spelled out the gameplan of how simple it would be to beat Aldo and logically, size plays a massive factor in it. McGregor was walking around 10+pounds bigger heavier than Aldo with a noticeably bigger frame. He was a better mover than Aldo, better counter puncher, fresher, and was a stylistic nightmare for Aldo. Fleet footed karate style southpaw, creating dead spaces for the aggressive, fast but easy to telegraph, muay Thai fighter to jump into and get wiped out. I'm not going to say I knew Conor would win but I was pretty confident he would. I had it like 75-25, 80-20 in Conors favour going into that fight.

    • Not that psychology doesn't matter. But more than anything you should be looking at the matchups he won and the ones he lost. Eddie was tailor made for him. Eddie has no range weapons at all, and he sucks at closing the distance. Conor thrives off people charging in on him. Dustin was a bumrusher with no defense when they fought the first time. Etc. Nothing about his style has changed. He's just fought more people, and his limited style was bound to make him lose at some point. He's also always been a quitter, so it doesn't take a lot of bad things happening in a fight for him to give up.

  • What makes Conor McGregor such a fantastic puncher is the fact that he doesn't close his eyes ever. All the best punches in the UFC shares that trait. Most fighters flinch a little bit whenever someone hits them or throws a punch at them, but Conor McGregor keeps his eyes open the entire time and he's able to find openings in the middle of the other person's combo. I don't know why he doesn't let his hands go anymore like he used to, the money I guess.

Connor intentionally was stepping inside Aldo’s left foot to tease him and pull him into feeling he had the advantage (when your foot is outside it gives you the power advantage). • His performance against Alvarez reminds me of his performance against Ivan Buchinger. If you haven't seen that counter punch KO, you need to. Put it in slow mo and just watch how fast that reaction time and counter punch was. That McGregor is gone not because he's a different person. He said it himself long ago, wife and kids and now business ventures and all sorts of other things... he's grown past being just a fighter and people inherently consider that a bad thing. To criticize the things he says and how he promoted a fight, that's one thing. However, to expect him to be as invested as he was is simply unrealistic. He still loves it just as much, obviously. Seriously, why else would he fight? He just simply doesn't have the same openings in terms of time and energy to invest. The victor is more often than not the one who has the resources and willingness to sacrifice more. He simply has too much to lose now to adapt, especially with how fast MMA is evolving and will evolve over the next few decades.

  • Healing after a fixation plate and healing after an intramedullary nail are two different things. The healing after the plate can take considerably longer than wheel healing after an intramedullary nail. If I understand correctly, Connor was treated with an intramedullary nail. This can be expected to heal within 8 to 10 or at most 12 weeks if all is going according to plan. With some complications healing may be delayed but otherwise, healing will be quicker with an intramedullary nail then with other methods of fixation.

  • Aldo's right was a full foot short and only a set up for the lunging left. Conor countered the setup right with a ko hook and willingly ate the lunging left for the privilege. A millisecond here or there and we could have seen the world's fastest double ko. Great matchup to two greats at their peak, but the figh never really played out with the action we hoped to see.

  • Love watching prime Conor. He’ll probably never be the same though. Ever since his boxing training for Floyd, he’s lost all movement in that free flowing style. “Stook in the mud” as they say.

So good the McGregor reign was between 2015 and even now I would get a ppv if he was on it. He did get humbled by Khabib let's not sugar coat it but I would love if he fought Poirier again and winner of that fight fought the champion. But if McGregor is going to fight again I will for sure tune in 👍
