My parents always taught me having a lot of money is impressive, but knowing how to make a lot of money is even more.
Same. Also how to spend the money.
This is so true
how capitalist
Same. But the minute you splurge that tiger moms gonna get you with that back scratcher 😹😹
True ... silver spoons 🥄 need to be polished and polished ... ✌🏼😁
Rich people in public will wear simple casual clothes to avoid getting robbed. Poor people will wear fancy clothes to make them look rich.
Generalization is not always in reality
rich people have private jets so they are never seen LOL
Not Asians... The clothing you wear is your status. People will judge you directly, not to mention the tiger parents.

"Old money doesn't flaunt, doesn't aspire to invoke envy. Old money awes and inspires." This is what my mom taught me.
Ren RN very true 👍
If old money flaunts, it is classy and not garish like new money.
Your mom seems to be very wise
My parents are old money. But unlike the new money generation, my parents make sure i'm no money...
Love it ! ... your mom couldn’t be more right 👍

to an extent ofc because at the end of the day I feel like wealth gets too some people lol
No they don't. Only some.
I m middle class but man i have better table manners than most rich people i know. Its all about coming from a good family where they value manners . Which old money families value
They're also responsible with they're money.
Yup, my and grandma and mom made sure her children followed the same etiquette

I was taught if you have money. You do not flaunt it, you act modest, use it, save it, and spend it well. Being wealthy, even through it can help you, but all it does is just add to what you are.
*ok*
My mom was not crazy rich, but she was comfortable compared to many. However, she was very thrifty and always dressed very simply. When i was a kid and wanted an electronic organ, we went to a Yamaha store to look for one. The sales associate gave my mom a disdainful look and walked away, not wanting to give us the time of his day. My mom angrily then went to the kawaii store. The sales lady was so attentive and helpful to us, that my mom made the purchase for a $4,500usd equivalent organ that same day in cash. And that was in 1979 when $4,500 was a lot then.
Well said well said
Think about this: your income is $100.000/month. You spend $20.000 and save $80.000 every month. This is how they taught me.
I think saving won't make you rich but investment do
I'm a crazy poor Asian.

You beat me to it. YEAH?!?!?! WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?
*jefree Star has left the chat*
Jeffree is comparably rich but he doesn't spend as much lol. I guess he use his money to 'invest'.
he's not that rich
Jeffrey Star has barely a fraction of what rich people in Asia have. In America, you could buy a bungalow for maybe a million. In Singapore, that bungalow would be 20, 30 million. I live in a 2-bedroom apartment that cost about a million dollars - in the West it would sell for less than a fifth of the price. If you think about it, everything in Singapore is much more expensive than in America. So for the people in Crazy Rich Asians to live such a lifestyle means that they are likely multibillionaires. If I had to guess, I would say that they would be worth perhaps 30 - 50 billion dollars.
Someone as Jeffree Starr even being a makeup founder, a youtuber and musician still can't match the wealth of asian conglomerates. I mean most are old money, tycoons to an empire. There's nothing to compare anyway. 😅
jefree star is definitely rich but not the crazy crazyyyyy rich as you would imagine in asia elite society
I remember the day when my friend from Philippines entered in LV store in newyork and no one entertain and response to her, until we went to another store which is Gucci and bought 5 shoes 10 bags and we went back to LV store and kick their asses we spent over $100,000 in just one day Ps: I'm not Rich I'm just having a CRAZY RICH ASIAN FRIEND 😂

The terms "Old Money" and "New Money" are not used to indicate the person's age, as the video insinuates. You can be a young person from a wealthy family, e.g. your great great great grandparents made a fortune and it has been passed down for generations (Old Money). Or you can be an older person who recently acquired wealth (New Money).
Quiet fortune attracts less predators, or none.
Facts but your class will be considered middle-class it takes an hundred yrs in America standard to be upperclass and old money plus some college education or old some old banking family or gentry class .meaning farming family still in the same business and more plus the schools the country clubs
This! That confused me. Old money = money for generations New money = newly rich
@@gregoryglass9040 College education? Literally everyone here has a college Degree in Asia. Or more.
"They dont show the lives of a normal Asian" LOOK AT THE TITLE BRO
EXACTLY! There's always going to be people who can't find anything good, regardless.
Yeah I know a lot of rich people and they do buy affordable clothing for everyday wear and is always on the lookout for a bargain in everything.. But if there is a special event, especially weddings, then you can see how rich they truly are.
Dana Go agreed!
@Angel S so true!! most of the times when i attend weddings or special events, it's always better to overdress than to be undressed lol
@@user-mp1lv5yg5o Agreed. You catch more attention being under-dressed than being overdressed if the person, holding the wedding, is rich 😭
Old money have lived and managed to retain their wealth through a period of upheavals, revolutions, social instability and other shenanigans. They'd learn to wise up and hide themselves among the masses rather than becoming a target of social jealousy-based wrath and ended up being hung in public and have their estates ransacked.
It will not last long. The more they hide, the more risky that some poor dudes with Genghis Khan competence seriously become ambitious. There are so many examples in history such tragedies happened, which there is almost no one of such wealthy family survived to this day. The Mongol conquest was a prime example of largest plunder and destruction of wealthy classes in human history. Millions of people in Middle East, China and Eastern Europe perished and we never even knew their names. The conquest singlehandedly reshaped the landscape of human capital and wealth. There are fortunate, dirt poor survivors fleeing to Africa, Western Europe and India to eventually make a fortune. The optimal path of smart wealthy families is to make themselves popular in national consciousness of the masses. Donations, economic investments, public programs,... These efforts make themselves radiant among everyone to the point of adoration and worship. This was how ancestors of rulers and nobles in the ancient times did. They built a name and distributed their wealth among the masses, which these people willingly to fight and stand up for them. These wealthy people became kings, politicians, rulers and khans. Thus, they maintained a long line of descendants and made their name immortal in the history books. They simply redistribute their wealth to the societies and earned respect. This is how a truly wealthy, smart family would do.
The Wandering Rey and bribe the poor politicians
But also casue some of the same problems too we all have issues it's an human thing
My mom always says, "the rich stay rich because they act poor and the poor remain poor because they try to act rich" took that to heart
I suddenly remembered a story my grandmother told me when I was young. She told me how our family used to have wealth but because of not being careful, their (my ancestors) wealth went down till they became middle classed.
Same, lol
Of course the wedding couldn’t really be more opulent. The budget for the film was only 30 million and it would be very difficult to depict what an actual multi-million dollar wedding is like.
Can we all just agree that we all die a little when we hear those prices? 😭😭 and that movie was the bomb!
For real😭💀
I don’t know why but I feel these prices are small... just like my boba which I thought I ordered large.... When I think of riches, I would think of millions and not thousands 😐😑😅 Well some are but I guess I was thinking too extravagant of them 😂😂 Btw I heard something like 400,000 and was like uhhh okay that’s considered alot lol 😂 This is the mind thinking of a stupid kid. Don’t take offense, it was just a thought and bc I’m trying to be “strong” imma still post this... peace out and have a good day !🌹👋
I have a weird mind. If I heard 1 million of less Imma think "Oh, that's so cheap." In the end of the day, I can't even buy food without debating over it, even when it's truly cheap.
Wondering how does it feels like to live like that? Even just for a month. Do we have any free 30 day trial here?
Just like antivirus 😂😂

As someone who was lucky enough to attend one of these lavish Singaporean parities, I can attest that the movie was practically a replica of some of the lives these people live
There no REAL elites of Singapore. I mean those referring to “old money” singapores rich people are basically just new. and there aren’t really no real old rich families that have been for decades or centuries that existed unlike those of China Japan Thailand or The Philippines.
Agreed.
Idk about the other countries but yep old money exist in Philippines

its a specific chinese character 杨. Interesting thing about Chinese language is that its not alphebetic. meaning a character can be pronounciated in tens diff ways depends on what dialect you speak, but it is always written the same. So in Mandarin, it actually sounds Young.

Ahhh this is so true if you watched Heart Evangelista(she's an old family) vlogs especially her closet tours and fashion weeks you can see that she spends but for longterm use things only. She also paints in bags and she usually buy things brand stuff not in the store but in the company itself. She go to fittings where she wore the designer clothes and choose what to buy before the models itself walk it in the fashion show.
"Kwan literally wrote the book 'Crazy Rich Asians'..." Yeah, I know he wrote it literally, as opposed to virtually. Also, the actress's name is Michelle Yeoh, not Michelle "Yeah," and Asia isn't a country.
when you said "asian accumulated more wealth than other countries" , you do realize Asia is a continent not a country...?

I work at one of the largest construction company in my country and had the privilege to work with the daughter of the owner. She was in training on the how-to’s of management. She always brought her own lunch at work which were mostly left over foods from her home, commutes daily to work. Wears plain work clothes, doesn’t wear makeup, no jewelries nor watch. An old iPhone 6 with cracked screen. Mind you, her family’s assets are worth $7 billion. She’s a down to earth person that when I attended our company’s annual xmas party, was surprised that she remembers my name when I came across her.
Not trying to brag, but my family has been running a business since my great-great-grandparents. We are a Chinese family and currently live in Singapore. Despite having enough money to buy expensive clothes or shoes to wear every day, my family including me loves to buy on-sale (not designer) things because since my family started a business, the knowledge of saving while enjoying is passed down to us. My family also taught me how to be humble and always be private- no one in our family has public social media most of my relatives don’t even have social media. Also, my parents, especially my mom, love to spend her money on expensive plates like saint louis, wedgewood imperial, baccarat crystal, etc. than on designer clothes while my dad spends his money most on travels and his passion for animals. And I’m saying this to remind everyone that rich asian are not similar to your typical rich people you’ve seen on hollywood because I experience bullying when I was in highschool (Private school) saying I’m not rich and doesn’t belong in the prestigious school- coming from a kid of a celebrity who wears clothes with designer logo in it from head to toe but can’t even afford to pay the tuition fee of the school. 😂
i don't know if it's healthy to my Psychological health to watch this movie
Do it do it 😂😂
Having the same thought too
Hanin Bokris thanks for saying that.... Am shaken😩... I need 💰 asap😭
True...
Lol watch it it was a great movie
as I've gotten older, I realized that the more money you have, the more power you think you have obtained, you become more of what you are, your insecurities that you keep hidden from others become more relevant, you can become more selfish or selfless depending on your morals and beliefs, you don't have to be raised a certain way to become those things, it's something that you teach yourself from your experiences, you can either allow good or bad experiences tear you down, or build you up, its a confusing cycle, so never judge someone by how much money they have, rather let your judgement be based on how they treat the ones around them.
I like replaying this. It just gives me the boost to work harder, smarter and experience all of this.
Everyone in comments section offended how it's Michelle "Yeoh" and not "yeah"😂

Asians. If you look into the author's basis to these characters, it differs from Heart Evangelista of Philippines and Beijing socialites.
Wealthy americas can never compare to wealthy Asians they are humble and have mad style
5:38 OMG very THAT! Slapping a brand's logo all over the clothing is the tackiest thing a brand could do. Yet somehow that's THE Trend.

The wedding scene was my favorite!
Remember don’t flaunt it too much, it could still go away. There are many wealthy people who doesn’t even look one, yet those who are lower than wealthy are the ones flaunting. My parents taught me that, cause we used to be close to homeless, despite now that everything is mhm okay, I guess lol, there’s no use in flaunting it. Circulate the money and make it bigger.
Great actors. That bachelor party to me was out of this world crazy and the wedding was spectacularly beautiul.

Being an Asian and having rich friends, this movie is quite a spot on. Yet, instead of being over the top, I could said that the rich part was really tone down. I could say that rich people around me do almost half of the things portrayed in the movie and they are not even crazy rich. That’s just showed how much we will splurge if we want to. And no, I am not rich thus I can relate about the social life in the movie. I know my friends are sincere when they said I am their friend yet I knew that the only reason their parents are ok with me being their friend is because I scored well in academic and a top scorer. Not blaming anyone yet that is the reality. Thus, KUDOS to Crazy Rich Asian’s team for this marvellous movie.

Base on my experiences media shows only rich asians in known country. But they dont show other asians in different countries. The philippines socialites are among most humble they are practical but when an occasions like debut or weddings or etc. Theyre gowns are made by well known designers cost 2 million dollars. Thats equivalent of a mansion already.
