EVERY big dog owner should watch this video. It’s very important to spot this before it gets serious. Today my dog was at my mothers house while I’m off at college and he died within hours because of Bloat. If I was there I could’ve taken him to the vet to help him but it was already too late by the time I got there. Please care for your pets people so you don’t have to experience it get taken away from you within hours.
I’m sorry you lost your dog, I did too and still not over losing him 💞
I’m watching it and i dint have a big dog bc it happens to other dogs too
I seriously can't imagine why this has ANY dislikes. Thank you for the information.
Thanks!
I love how your dog lays there letting you do whatever to him and he trusts you implicitly!
I love all your videos. You may already know but I am another person who will say your videos are more than just helpful, it give such a peace and helps save our loved pet's lives.
We have 2 large dogs. A lab and an Anatolian Shepherd. I'm so glad you shared this video. I will watch for signs that I hope I never have to worry about.
Thank God, real answers without all the hype.
You are welcome
You’re the best!
Here’s a real cure so you can thank me when you see how he simply treats the condition and fails to show you in my video.kzhead.info/sun/ocyqlNVxjHeIiK8/bejne.html
Stephen Bayer my point being he’s a crook for telling you to go to a vet when all they’re gonna do is what I show in my video for free. I care about animals especially dogs and dog owners.
Stephen Bayer has this video saved any dogs lives from Bloat? Apparently not reading the comments.
Thank you for this information. I also want to congratulate you for having such a good model. 🙂 He's always so cooperative, lol 👍😁
i hope this good boy got all the treats in the world he’s so cute and he was just laying there being your little assistant 🥺🥺
Sure did get a reward. ;-) - Dr. Andrew Jones Get free ebook here: www.veterinarysecrets.com/news/
gotta say thank you for actually having some detail alot of vets put up very cryptic descriptions that could pretty much apply to normal occurrences making you more confused and worried then before you searched around, so again thank you for actually being informative its greatly appreciated
Thanks
Im so thankful for this video. God bless.
Thank you for taking your time on this video
Very helpful and easy to understand. I have a Shepard mix. Good boy @ 5.5 yrs. He has been with a gastric specialist for most of his life and on an EN Natural (wet and dry) diet. Few weeks back had been getting up @ 4 am , eat grass and dry heave (bile/mucous) then OK. Put him on Nexium 2x20mg (40mg) in the evening to help but still up every other 3rd day with the same grass eating and dry heaves. Couple times pinkish color mucous but green/white. Today however was different and caused me to find your video. He ate lots of grass, no heaving just clingy so took him for a walk which produced nothing. Then back out in back yard and started to have what looked like a continuous gag reflex (or retching) and felt that under his chin. Eventually he did heave with a good amount of white foamy mucous. Had never seen foam and this much volume. The retching was not as frequent and stopped after lying down with me (both tired.) So not sure this is onset of bloat but wondering if something related. He's scheduled for an ultrasound in couple weeks if this does not stop but looks like it will persist. Vet wants to look more at the stomach. Is this GDV ? or a hybrid ? He does get 1/2 dry EN Natural kibble with wet food. And to make it even more interesting is on immunotherapy for allergies post skin and blood test for allergen reactions. Since a couple days his mucous was a little pink wondering if there is more of a gastric issue going on with my boy. Interested to learn your opinion. What other things should I watch for ?
Thank you, Dr. Great information! I can not stress how important your help was.

UPDATE TO THE PREVIOUS UPDATE: I took my Old English Bulldog for his x-ray follow up appointment. The x-rays showed his tummy to be normal looking. His lungs were more evident in this image. His tummy NEVER flipped so, that was excellent news as I mentioned earlier. He didn't experience any "other" issues from that ordeal, thank God. We got him there in the nick of time and my deepest "thank you" to our vet who saved his life. The vet said to limit his play activities for 4-5 days and also limit his water intake when he drinks. Limit his size of dry kibble portions as well, for now. Bogie (dogs name) never had more than a cup of food in his bowl prior to the event. He is a grazer and eats whenever he decides to. So, we are watching his water intake before and after he eats any dry kibbles. He's back to his old self but, can't stand the "brush off" of not playing tug with his toys he loves so much. That 4-5 day window is nearing it's end. He'll be glad of that I can assure you.. I did some more homework about this condition and also watched a video on KZhead from vets naming 25 things to NOT feed your dog. If he did have some of these no-no items it wasn't much in quantity and he won't be getting any of it from now on. Little portions of certain foods or fruits can cause problems so, don't even go that route at all. Bogie is having stool and urine movements like clockwork so, no issues of possibilities of a twisted entrance or exit in his tummy. Excellent. So, with all that said, I'll close out my pets near death experience about the dreaded killer of dogs called, BLOAT. My pooch survived his ordeal and I thank God all the time for blessing our vet with the hands and knowledge to spare his life. My wife made up a special Hallmark Superman card with Bogies picture on it with Superman flying in from the top left with the words "You're Superman" and text below that reads, "thank you for saving my life, I love you." We are going to send it to our vet for the awesome job he did for Bogie and my wife and I. We are so grateful and like Dr Jones replied to my post saying, "God news."
Awhhh what a wonderful ending to this scary story. God Bless your vet for really going above and beyond his duty (taking him home). Well many hugz to Bogie!!! 🐶
Hi thank you so much for your comment. Did your dog have symptoms of a bloated stomach before you went to the vet?
Thanks Doc. Have a good weekend. Sweet Louis rip.🐾😇
Thanks
Thanks, that was very informative
Thank You
Lorraine Boyd poodle
thank you for this video. And again what and how we are feeding our dogs is so important and yet can also be confusing too. I read the article that suggested canned food, etc
canned is better than kibble, but raw is the best.
I just lost my 13 year old akita yesterday am from bloat. vet said he didn't think he would survive surgery so we had to make the hardest choice ever, which was release him from suffering. so heart broken. I miss him so much..his stomach was twisted.
Sorry to hear of your loss.
I was always worried about bloat with my akita, got tests done he had a very rare cancer, we had to put him down because he was in pain, it broke my heart, he just went down hill very fast, 8 years old my best friend 😢
Did your dogs have any signs and if yes could you tell me what signs your dog had
I'm so so sorry for your loss, I'm sure that was the hardest decision to make ever, but I think personally I would have to decide that too if he probably wouldn't make it from surgery and he was in pain...it would damn near kill me, but I would think about him and not myself. I'm sorry again...
Exact same thing happened to me today with my Staffie. I’m devastated. 😢😢😢😭😭😭
Thanks a bunch, Doc ! Wulfy
Thank you for such wonderful information
Welcome
As a new Great Dane mom, thank u for this video.
Welcome!
Thank you so much Dr. You have no idea how much I appreciate what you do. My Newfoundland just scared me. Was throwing up white bile. I was trying to look @ his stomach, & it didnt look like it was protruding very much. I gave him an antacid. & have been monitoring him. I'm so thankful this gave me concrete answers in what to look for.
You are very welcome
Excellent information. Is it typical for this to happen during a heat cycle?
What a precious fur baby you have there ❤️
Hi, thank you so much for the video! My 15 y.o. dachshund got bloat two days ago. I rushed him to the vet, who's 30 km away and when we get there miracle happened! The vet said that my oldie was incredible lucky! Due to the balance of the car during the trip, he managed to regurgitate and that helped the stomach to get back on its normal position. I wanted to share this with you as in my dog's case, the bloat hasn't occurred because of any effort. Being old, he rather sleeps and doesn't run or something. It was because Freddy eats food (low fat diet twice/day) and drank water very fast and he ingurgitates lots of air too. I've heard the sound in his stomach while he was drinking but never occurred it could turned into such a severe effect. I never thought that can happen! Please take care of your dogs, especially if they are old and longing. Now I feed him with less food once and only from my own hand so I can force him to reduce the speed of ingurgitating and also keep an eye on him while drinking water and stop him after 4-5 licks.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for your video. We stumbled on it last night when we were trying to figure out what was wrong with our poodle mix. After watching your video and learning about bloat we took him to our local emergency vet and it turns out he had bloat and his stomach was twisted. They did emergency surgery and he's going to be OK. Thank goodness we didn't just go to bed and hope that he felt better in the morning.
Wow what an amazing story!
I bet your heart sank when you heard how deadly it is. I am glad your baby is good.
If you don’t mind me asking how much was the surgery? We had to put down our sweet dog last night bc the vet quoted a 15k bill with only 60% chance of survival 😢
God bless this doctor
Nice info mate, your a good human-bean
Thank you
Thank you Dr., I hope people are listening and paying attention. I'll share my story and one other sign that people may watch for. My 13mos old German Shepherd puppy eats kibble, but is allowed to graze. He's VERY tall and still very thin (85lbs) w/CH Sire 115lbs, CH Dam 85-90lbs, One Sunday evening after he'd eaten his normal "dinner" one of his larger mini-meals of the day. He was laying against the front door (we're in SE WI - Feb 5th snow on the ground and the door cool to lay against), an Amazon driver apparently dropped a heavy box outside the door surprising him from resting or even napping. He lept up barking in natural guard dog mode, settled as soon as I came to the door and saw it was Amazon. A few minutes later, he was pacing... not showing discomfort, but restless. My initial thought was it was an Adrenaline spike from being startled and would normalize shortly. I took him outside to do his business and while he loves snow, the first sign was laying on his belly in the snow. He'd NEVER done that before. He moved without resistance, went a few feet and did it again. Now I'm beginning to be concerned. I brought him in the house (still walking under his own power with no whimpering or showing pain) he laid on his stomach a third time right after getting him in the house. I IMMEDIATELY started looking for signs of bloat. I lay him on his side, felt his stomach and could not feel any obvious swelling, I pressed and even tapped lightly trying to feel or hear a gas cavity, again nothing discernable. However, the dry heaves began and it was from standing above him that I was able to see the bulge of his midsection. Being as tall and thin as he is, the best way I can describe it was that his body looked like it had a whale-like bulge in the middle. This being my second GSD and having been warned by other great dog lovers at the German Shepherd Club of Wisconsin... I KNEW at that point it was bloat. I shouted to my girl "Get dressed, we're going to the ER!" as I was already remote starting my truck, locating the phone # for the nearest 24hr facility and preparing to drive VERY QUICKLY to get him there fast. While driving I told the tech that answered the phone the symptoms, he too immediately concurred it sounded like bloat but wasn't able to make that diagnosis but would put together the crash cart and team for us. From the start of the incident with the box at the door to the point I rolled into the ER where they were waiting with a gurney to transport him from my truck (yet he wanted to walk) was approximately 50-70 minutes. The DVM who was working that night rushed him into Xray, showed what even I as a "layperson" could see was essentially everything on one side with a large void where his stomach should have been sharing the space. They immediately began IV with sedatives, an anti-gas of some form and called in a surgeon and tech. Two and a half hours later, he was out of surgery (including having stomach tacked) and we learned that his stomach had flipped the opposite of what is normal and had cut-off bloodflow entirely to his spleen. Fortunately with everything falling in place as quickly as it did- there was no need for a Splenectomy, no damage to it and after 36hrs he was eating and passing solids released to come home. Now two months later I've warned a lot of people of the symptoms, those most familiar with bloat are surprised it happened with such a young dog. But as mentioned, he's got a large frame and likewise we're still keeping him on a relatively low protein diet to not allow/encourage over stimulation of growth of joints. But digressing, the one symptom I would encourage you to share is having people look straight down at their dog's body. At 6'3" I had a pretty good perspective and that was the ultimate affirmation it was bloat and everything was emergency mode. TY for sharing and educating, I'm learning of too many dogs that die of bloat because their owner's don't know what to look for.
Deserved for not training him better and allowing him to be aggressive towards delivery drives.
@@ShadowsandCityLightswtf was that??? You have a nasty soul 👺
@@ShadowsandCityLights You are a terrible person for saying that
We just went through this with our pittbull/ bulldog mix "Mocha". After an 8 hr car ride we fed her once we got to our family's house. She only ate half her bowl of dry kibble which is very unusual for her. We let her out to potty and within 30 minutes noticed she looked bloated and wasn't acting herself. We thought she was constipated and went to the pet store to get her a laxative or pumpkin (high fiber). After returning home we noticed she looked even more bloated and was acting very lethargic and unresponsive, her gums where pale and cold, as well as her ears paws and tail. We took her to an emergency vet and they confirmed with Xrays that she had GDV. My wife works as medical lab technician and broke down crying when she saw the blood test results. Apparently Mocha was literally dieing on arrival. Vital organs had already began to shut down and blood toxins were already high. This all happened very quick with in an hour or hour and a half. Mocha had surgery immediately and had to remain in vet care for 3 days. 5k dollars later we now have her home and she is recovering well. Definitely a serious issue. Everything said in the video is exactly what happened for us and had we waited much longer she wouldn't be with is. Definitely see your vet if your pet has bloat DO NOT WAIT!
Glad it turned out OK. and yes it is an IMMEDIATE emergency
i'm so happy your baby made it. we just lost our bulldog to bloat and she was healthy and less than 24hrs gone it was on a Sunday we had to find a vet open and it was too late she passed as soon as she was carried back they did CPR but it caused a major heart attack. more people need to hear this video so maybe it could save their baby's life there is no time to think it will pass or be OK Every dog owner needs to hear this. RIP choppers
You are clear and understandable. Thank you
That's great to hear:)
It might be late but thank you very much for explaining clearly without hitting around the bush. Godbless you
Thank you so much:)

I think my dog had this recently. I researched it extensively and could not find anything that matched the symptoms as closely as this video. I did bring her to the vet but they did not do x-rays or diagnose it. So I spent 36-40 sleepless hours with my dog literally believing she was going to die. Symptoms were expanded chest, stomach. She vomited multiple times the first hour or two until her guts were empty. Then Intermittent "dry heaving" , rapid, repeated heaving that sounded like a chain saw that was cranking but wouldn't start. This would go on for 1-2 minutes. I started massaging her chest and noticed incredibly rapid heart beat. It went from normal to 10 times the regular rate while she was heaving. I thought her heart was going to explode. I started hugging her, massaging her ribs, lungs and chest medium pressure and talked to her gently while this was happening. It helped calm her heart rate and heaving almost immediately. It was almost like I was "squishing" her stomach back to normal but not so hard as to hurt her. This was a big help in calming the fits/seizures but it did not cure the problem, nor did it decrease the frequency. So, massage her lungs, chest, belly with medium pressure while talking to her. It may have saved her life. Now that I know this is likely the issue, if it ever happens again she's going back to the vet immediately. I was terrified. I didn't eat, sleep or go anywhere. She was incredibly miserable and wouldn't eat, drink or even move unless I really encouraged her. She would lay down after 2-3 steps unless I kept her moving.
And I literally prayed 100 times or more. I don't know if it helped but she's alive and well and didn't get treatment from the vet. *Prayers and massages may have saved her THIS time, but not leaving the care of the vet if it ever happens again.
UPDATED FROM PREVIOUS POST: The vet called me around 11:30 pm the same night from the vet hospital and said i could come pick up Bogie. he said he was barking up a storm and he wouldn't be able to get any sleep from all his barking. LOL. When I picked up Bogie the Dr. said as soon as he put the tube in his stomach, the trapped air/gas came right out. He said his stomach evidently didn't flip because he was able to insert the tube easily. Thank you Lord and the Dr. He said they noticed his stomach was empty so no foreign substance/object was evident. I know he didn't eat anything during the day and did poo poo earlier as mentioned prior to that event. They also did a ultrasound on his sides to see if any other thing may be a issue. Nothing evident. He did say bloating is more common in larger breeds 99% of the time. I brought him home and he was truly exhausted from that near death event. I know any of us would be as well. I'll take him back in the AM so he can be checked out again for safe measures. My wife and I are very thankful for the doctors care and the prayers to God that our pride and joy was able to recover and come home later that night. I'll be checking his kibbles to see if the first 4 ingredients are made with some type of oils as mentioned. A new diet may be in order if so.
God news
Thank you for sharing your experience. I wish your dog many more years of health and happiness!
How much did all of that cost
@@VeterinarySecrets wait with what engridience do I need the kibble to be in
@@jamespoopy4 Always look for animal proteins as the 1st ingredient. I've always said if you feed kibble buy the best food you can afford as you'll save money in the end with fewer vet bills. I have 2 Boerboels 150lbs and 163lbs. I feed the older dog (12 years old / ancient for a mastiff breed) Nature's Variety Instinct. Its a 70 30 0 blend. I feed the younger dog Orijen it's an 80 20 0 blend. I supplement the kibble with raw. If I could afford straight raw that's what they'd get but as you can imagine I'm already spending $300 a month. Check out the "Dog Food Advisor" website. They provide detailed reviews on all foods. Kibble, Canned, Raw, etc I hope this helps.

This is exactly what happened to my 6 months old Alaskan Malamute puppy yesterday. It was so sudden and heart breaking
I have a small breed dog that got bloated after I made the mistake of giving her leftover food after feeding her regular dog food I put her on her back and put my hand on her stomach and rubbed her belly while kind of rocking her gently side to side and up and down just so I can try to let her release any gas and get the digestive system to move around I sat with her for about an hour or two probably more than that not really sure and every 30 mins she would get up and drink water I then took her outside to see how she acts and she started acting normal again so I found that helpful I could of just taken her to the vet but I can not afford that much of a price but I found this helpful for my dog I hope it helps yours as well
Thank you for the information.
You're welcome
Big thank you
Thank you for this video! Hopefully it will prevent someone from making my mistake. My Belgian Malinois had gastric torsion after I gave him some bacon fat and went for a run about an hour later. He had to have surgery and they stapled his stomach back into place so it won`t happen again.
Thanks, Dr Andrew Jones My Free Book www.veterinarysecrets.com/news
Wow your dog is laying there so well! You would think he’s been sedated, obviously we know he’s just a really good boy 😊
yeah i thought he was sedated also was soo confused lol good info tho👍🏼
What is your thoughts on "stomach tacking" surgery? A place in Richmond, VA does it. I was thinking about that for my basset. It's considered "preventative" treatment care.
Louis is a trooper!
I feed my Great Dane fish and rice 2 times a day but her parents both had bloat at one point so after this video I plan on checking her stomach every morning.
My dog Quincy.showed signs of bloat last night. When I recured him from the eurh list he was emaciated so I had did all the precautions to avoid bloat. 4 mos later healthy and happy he gets it. Within 30 minutes of him vomiting and pacing I put him in my car and called around for a vet. This is 8 pm.at night. Found an emergency clinic open and they confirmed GDV/Bloat. He came out of surgery early this morning and the Vet said had I not noticed the signs of bloat and not acted as quickly as I did he would have died. I don't have the money and had to open a cares credit to pay the Vet to save his life. I didn't rescue this beautiful dog from death row only to have him die a few months later. He is so happy now and was abused so bad in his past. Couldn't let him die.
Thank you
My dogs stomach looks bloated it feels really hard she is always so hungry and drinks so much water I think more then what she is suppose to & she pees way to much was can cause all of this? Thank you
I I'm really struggling at the moment with guilt with the loss of my friend blu my Weimaraner by the time I notice her she was sick twice within 5 minutes then her stomach bloated would she have had a twisted gut .and what's the time frame from the start to recovery thanks I really need some help
Hi Frank -depends on the secondary damage. Some dogs recover in a few days, others take weeks

Our dog used to gobble down her dinner in matter of seconds... Our vet told us to elevate her bowl to slow her down... just learned from this video that elevated bowl can cause bloating 😖
Some vets are just good for prescriptions always do your own research
Risk factor. Just get a slow feeder bowl
Bloat is a terrible thing that can happen to your canine friend. I lost my six yr old Rottie to it out of ignorance. Thought his belly was swollen from food and excessive water from a hot day and evening. He died during the night. His offspring is now six and I watch and pay attention. If it happens I have a tube and know how to insert it to buy him some time while going to the vet.
I lost my 6 year old Rottie this past Monday to bloat he was super heathy and Raw fed, but I decided to start adding kibble to his died and that did it, I didn’t recognize what he was going through until it was too late
Cause of bloated please explain
Thanks Dr. Jones, valuable information, only heard about this from "Marley", now I know what to look for in my dog

What do I do if I’m unable to go to the vet because they are closed right now
My Dachshund gets this. Usually, Simethicone(capsule form) and Zantac helps. Occasionally steriods. Have your vet show you how to give pills. It is pretty simple. I would highly doubt my dog would take Mylanta for me. I also use a warm(not hot) rice pack to his belly. He welcomes this. This can happen even with no change of diet but his episodes are more prone to someone giving him table food. He can't eat table food without issues. He has bouts of colitis when given human food also. With the exception of pumpkin puree, green beans and orher friendly foods. He is a mix between a miniature and standard. He has that larger chest. 😞 I MIGHT ADD THAT I ONLY SELF TREAT IF THERE IS NO VOMITTING, SEVERE SHAKING, NOISES WHEN I TOUCH HIM OR HE HIDES. Any of these need a vet for my guy right away. If he has had normal bowel movements within the last 12 hours and has minor shaking, signs of tummy ache and wants me ti be next to him, I try the Simethicone, Zantac and warmth as well as lay next to him. Sometimes massaging his ears gelps him relax. When in doubt......see a vet!!!
Thankyou for your excellent video. I was wondering if it is beneficial if a dog has a slightly enlarged stomach to give them otc charcoal tablets until you can get them to the vet. Thank you.
Thanks Dr. A. I love your videos! 💗

Just lost my cane corso to what I'm pretty sure was bloat. I had no idea why he got sick and died within hours. After researching why my dog suddenly died I do believe it was this. He had the signs but I didn't know. It was 7pm when I noticed he wasn't feeling well. I laid with him thinking I would take him to the vet in morning but when I woke up he was beside me dead 😪
Man, I feel your pain, I'm going through this with my almost 14 yr old pointer/red nose pitbull mix, we've had her before we had my son and built our family, this is harder than going to my grandmothers funeral, this is devastating to some to say the least.
Im so sorry for your loss
Hi! I gave my dog Mylanta because he was bloated, & what it did was induce him to vomit all the liquid that was in his stomach. About how many days would I need to continue to give him Mylanta? And how many days does it usually take for him to start feeling better? His stomach is a lot smaller and so much softer compared to before he took Mylanta.
Can you update ? How is your dog ?
Yes plzzzzz ....🙏🙏.. any up dates
5 years ago and still helping, my Pets are my world gotta make sure my dogs okay
That's good to hear
Thank you for this!! Do you think having their dish elevated 2 inches from the floor is that ok? For a medium sized dog.
My (almost) 9 year old English Bulldog developed bloat. He ate dry kibble all his life and had cold spring water to drink. Sometimes now and then he would throw up bile colored vomit. We thought it was because he had to go poop and hated going out to do it. So whenever he did this we'd take him out and sure enough, he had to go poo poo. Once he went poo poo it appeared his tummy went down quite considerably. We didn't think anything about it since this seemed to decrease the bloated look. Today was a different story. He didn't have anything to eat and maybe drank a little water. Dry kibble was in his bowl for whenever he decided to eat it. A small scoop or shallow cup was all he would get at any given time. He was more of a grazer type eater than a certain time schedule eater like most people are. I heard him trying to throw up after I saw the first bile liquid. He seemed to be ok but, about every 10 mins he would try to throw up the white foamy liquid or nothing at all next. I tried to see if he wanted to drink but, he started to make a horrible cry like moan I've never heard him do. He seemed like he was not breathing in enough air or short in and out struggling type respiration's. Not good. My wife had just got home when this happened and she said we need to get him to the vet NOW. We live only 10 mins away from the vet office, thank God. Still every minute counts with this issue. The vet took him back and gave our boy an IV and took some x-rays to look at his stomach and his lungs. His stomach had the dark black stomach x-ray of bloating. His lungs looked great. The vet then told us about how the stomach could flip or twist in this condition. He was going to sedate him and attempt to put a tube down his throat and into his stomach to release the trapped air or gas. He also said if his stomach is twisted, the tube most likely won't go through into his stomach. Surgery would have to be performed but, not 100% life saving either. That's not good news to hear when your loved pet is like a child to you. He said he'd do the tube insertion and if successful, he would take him home overnight to watch and see if he re-bloated again and would be much better than us taking him home and possibly have more issues we couldn't treat in time. The vet called us back about 30 mins later and said he was able to put the tube into his stomach and release the trapped air/gas and his gums and tongue was turning pink again. I never noticed his gums or tongue but, my wife said he was turning a light blue on those areas. This meant the artery wasn't pinched off in his stomach anymore, and blood flowing was happening and the gas/air bloat was relieved. The vet took him home as mentioned and said he would call if any issues arise and if not he would call us in 12 -14 hours which would be well into the normal office hours the next day. He also said he'd keep him at the office as well for more observation before we can take him home again. Highly advised. I will add another comment after I find out in 12-14 hours how he's doing. This is very difficult on my wife and I because our English Bulldog is very loyal to his masters and he is adult trained and always around just me and the wife. He is very, very smart and understands a huge vocabulary of words and names of at least 25 toys if asked to go get a certain one named. I pray to God he survives as his birthday is in August and he'll turn 9 then. I see this video hasn't been commented on in over a year so, hopefully all went well with our pooches experience and this help others to know that this condition is the 2nd leading cause of dog deaths right behind cancer. Pray for our baby named Bogie, the brendal colored male English Bulldog.
I think my sweet 12 year old dog died from that today. We haven't found out what killed the poor thing.
You were very helpful by telling your story, I hope all went well with bogie.

Thank you for the information. My cousin’s standard poodle just died of bloat. 😢
Welcome- sorry to hear of that.
My dog died in this similar situation in front of my eyes...I hope that u must euthanize him instead watching him dying slowly.
Thank you so much!! Helped me to understand very much.
Thank you so much for this! I just got a Great Pyrenees/Border Collie mix puppy and one of the first things I came across when doing my breed research was that they can have bloat. I'd never heard of it but now I am very aware and diligent with feedings. We feed a high quality dry puppy kibble, Fromm, and separate her from our boxer after meals so she won't get the zoomies immediately after eating.
You're welcome
Hello Dr Andrew. On the 2nd of March, 2021 I took my dog to the vet because his stomach was huge. The vet informed me he had Chronic Heart Failure; I was devastated and confused. I wondered how my 6 year old dog, who was very active in January.. suddenly develop CHF. Anyway he was put on Furosemide and Enalapril syrup. The day after I noticed his stomach was smaller. Two days later my dog was extremely thin. He died March 10th, 2021 at 22:20! Can you please help me to understand how that happened?
What a heartbreaking thing to have happen to your pup.
Sheesh, I just came across this video and it naturally makes me worried for my black lab/weimeraner mix Bella. She's about 8 or 9 now and hasnt really had any serious health issues other than a stomach bug that gave her bad diarrhea. As for her exercise, she is walked once or twice a day and once at night where she's allowed to roam around and get all her energy out. I want to know some tips on how to keep her from getting bloat since now I realize how serious bloat is.
Likely she won't get it - big thing is less kibble, adding small amount of water to kibble, 2-3 meals/day
thankyou you help me figerout if my dog was blooding or not🙂
Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Thank you for this video! My nine-year-old female Labrador Retriever is having a bloated stomach and she threw up bilious fluid early this morning. She is eating fine and drinking water as well, but is a little dull. I'm unable to take her to the vet because of the COVID situation, so can you please share any home remedies that I can try for the time being?
Is she fine now...?
What ended up happening?

See your vet asap

Hi, did he recover? Generally not a puppy problem- more likely constipation/worms
We had to put our German Shepard of 12 years and 9 months to sleep because of this issue. The vet told us if we would do a operation. Chance is that he wouldnt survive the narcose nor the operation. Unexpected and it happens to quick. At least its the best thing for the dog because she was already in shock. (gums where almost white)
Sorry for your loss Reggie
Okay so I just got an 8-year-old bloodhound. So what would be in order to prevent any problems like this what would be the best feeding to feed him? What kind of foods exactly and how much and how often would be best and what should I not do and what should I not feed him? So should I best forget feeding him dry food? Should I buy raw meats cook that and give him two cups in the morning and then two cups in the evening are raw or cooked meat cut up?
Thank you so much for your video so I want to ask do I just give him Mylanta 1 time or how it works??
You mention several times that a risk factor is adding water to kibble - could you please clarify if you mean that you add water to dry kibble and feeding it immediately. I soak my dogs' kibble for several hours until it's soft. Thanks.
+diaml Thanks for asking this, I too am interested in the answer - I add water as well and am curious if I should stop.
Hi, This comes from Dr Wendy Brooks who writes for VIN- I value her knowledge. What are the Risk Factors for Developing Bloat? Classically, this condition affects dog breeds which are said to be deep chested, meaning the length of their chest from backbone to sternum is relatively long while the chest width from right to left is narrow. Examples of deep chested breeds would be the Great Dane, Greyhound, and the setter breeds. Still, any dog can bloat, even dachshunds and chihuahuas. Dogs weighing more than 99 pounds have an approximate 20% risk of bloat Classically, the dog has eaten a large meal and exercised heavily shortly thereafter. Still, we usually do not know why a given dog bloats on an individual basis. No specific diet or dietary ingredient has been proven to be associated with bloat. Some factors found to increase and decrease the risk of bloat are listed below: Factors Increasing the Risk of Bloating Feeding only one meal a day Having closely related family members with a history of bloat Eating rapidly Being thin or underweight Moistening dry foods (particularly if citric acid is listed as a preservative) Feeding from an elevated bowl Restricting water before and after meals Feeding a dry diet with animal fat listed in the first four ingredients Fearful or anxious temperament History of aggression towards people or other dogs Male dogs are more likely to bloat than females Older dogs (seven - 12 years) were the highest risk group Factors Decreasing the Risk of Bloat Including canned dog food in the diet Including table scraps in the diet Happy or easy-going temperament Feeding a a dry food containing a calcium-rich meat meal (such as meat/lamb meal, fish meal, chicken by-product meal, meat meal, or bone meal) listed in the first four ingredients of the ingredient list. Eating two or more meals per day
