Grabbed a 1tb of this drive for $92 I was shocked with how great of a value this SSD was!
It was on sale for prime day!
@@jppotato17 yup bought it yesterday
+1 Best deal I have gotten in a long time 💯 Came out to just $101 incld taxes even tho I dont even have prime (shocking, ik lol).
Great content as always 👍
Thanks for video!
I just purchased this for my Razer Blade 15 thanks to this review. Thanks a lot! Good stuff!
Nice! These things are perfect for notebooks.
Thanks for mentioning the black pcb. That and the positive reviews are why I picked this over other ones. Blends well with any build, especially if don't have a thermal solution for it.
For sure. I love me some black PCBs, they look so slick!
4:38 Quick Side note about momentum cache. As with any other storage caching software that caches to Ram, you risk data loss in machines without battery backups. In laptops these features are generally automatically configured to switch off when your battery is low but on a desktop if you lose power you may very well lose data as well. Unless you have a UPS, I wouldn't recommend using it on a desktop.
Yeah, it's definitely a risk, especially in SA because Eskom 😭
what is a UPS?
@@inico9300 An uninterrupted power supply (UPS). Basically it's a kind of battery that goes between your mains electricity and your computer. If your lights trip or there's a blackout it will keep your computer running for a few minutes while you save what your doing.
@@waseemh3863 So I built my own pc and i wanted to upgrade my storage because I only have 500 gb. Would it not be smart to get this m.2 ssd? Or for that matter would it not be smart to get any m.2 ssd? Im 90% sure I do not have a UPS.
@@inico9300 You can get this SSD or any other m.2 SSD for that matter (keep in mind there's 2 types of m.2 SSDs there's m.2 sata and m.2 nvme, you should check your motherboard's manual to check which m.2 slots on your motherboard support which type). The issue I was referring to, that requires a UPS, wouldn't affect you unless you intentionally go an enable the feature I talked about in my original post (that feature was moment cache). TLDR You should be fine to use this m.2 SSD or any other one, provided your motherboard supports it, and the issue I talked about in my original post likely won't affect your use case at all.
I'm looking at the P5 for a 2nd drive to install my games too. Would it still get hot in this scenario? I have a WD Black SN750 for OS and a few games. Haven't seen it get hotter than 46°c, has the mobo heat sink on. MSI X570 thomahawk.
It'll most likely still run a little hot, but not as hot as in the tests I ran for this video. The Tomahawk X570 has included M.2 heatsinks for all of its slots, I believe.
I have a crucial p5 1TB, I was thinking of switching to an mx500 4TB capacity as I'm struggling with storage. I can probably sell it for 50 and I know I can get the 4tb used for 225. Do you reckon that it's worth doing if storage is a priority or should I just get a p5 2tb?
If storage is that much of a struggle, and you don't see that changing, then going for a higher capacity, slower SATA SSD is probably your best bet. I personally use a high-speed M.2 as my main drive, and high-capacity HDDs for more general storage - works out a heck of a lot cheaper.
Planning on replacing my old PS4 hard drive. Is it really that safe and easy in doing the whole procedure? Would you highly recommend Crucial in terms of read & write speeds? Or would you go for anything else?
I wouldn't recommend getting this drive or any high-speed NVME SSD for the PS4. To use M.2 drives (like this one) with the PS4 you'd need to get an external enclosure for it, and you'd need to hook it up via the USB ports (which will cut the speed down significantly no matter how fast the SSD is). Your best bet would be to get a SATA SSD to replace your current drive, something like Samsung's 860 EVO, or Crucial's MX500.
@@TheTechTank Would that need to be a SATA 3 and not 2?
@@TheTechTank So would you go for the MX500 or Samsung 870 QVO (not EVO) instead?
@@TechNomadUK1 Performance should be almost identical between the two, so go with the cheaper one. Oh, and you're looking for SATA III (6Gb/s)
@@TheTechTank Understood. Many thanks for that.
I just ordered this, thinking to use it in my laptop legion 5 pro, should i cancel my order because the heating problem? Also thanks for the video!!
As far as I know, the Legion 5 Pro has a decent cooling system, so I wouldn't worry too much about the temps of the P5. Even if it does run a little hot it shouldn't get nearly hot enough to cause any issues.
@@TheTechTank okay, thanks for answering!!!
You're a big upgrade to my system! xD
That's kinky... I LIKE IT!
Is this P5 support and give full performance in Asus tuf A17 laptop ? Motherboard asus tek and model FA706ICB ?
Yes sir. The P5 will work and run at full speed in that notebook.
Just ordered one of these, do you have any heatsink recommendations?
Whatever heatsink comes with your motherboard should work just fine, but if you don't have any available then something like this could work: amzn.to/3yPJaZU
@@TheTechTank thank you!
Should I go with P5 plus 500gb (gen4) or Samsung Evo 970 plus also 500 GB version (gen3)
Depends on the price. If they're close to the same price, go for the P5 Plus. If the Samsung is cheaper by a fair bit, then get that instead.
Thanks for reply. I bought p5 plus
Do you prefer crucial p5 or wd sn750? Here they both cost the same
Would go for the P5 if we're talking about 500GB since it's faster than the 500GB version of the SN750, but 1TB and up I'd probably go for the SN750 since performance is about the same and from what I've seen runs a bit cooler.
@@TheTechTank thanks for your response, would get the p5 then. Cheers
Will it be compatible for storage expansion on the ps5 after the system software?
Sony recommends PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSDs with at least 5000MB/s read and write speeds, so this shouldn't cut it.
I have a problem of slow file transfer with the p5, what can I do and install drivers and nothing! did you find a solution or do you recommend a return or replacement .. thanks for your answer
How slow? Transferring files from one P5 to another?
@@TheTechTank 250/300 MBs !! I came back and asked for a refund from Amazon ... what a bad experience, thanks for replying bro...
@@davidprado-graficoyvideo8095 Almost no chance that's an issue with the P5, IMO. Even if there was an issue like overheating or something going on, the drive still wouldn't run that slow... Were you maybe copying files from/to a SATA SSD from/to the P5? Because those are more like SATA speeds.
@@TheTechTank Maybe they sent me a damaged unit .. do you recommend the samsung evo MZ-V8V500B / AM or Acer Predator GM3500? to have windows or only files .. thanks for your help
@@davidprado-graficoyvideo8095 Samsung all the way.
please , what do you think of ADATA legend 710 1tb ?
Seems like a good drive, and ADATA is pretty trustworthy. It's a little slower than the P5, but otherwise, it looks solid.
Can i intall that in pci gen 3 slot because P5 have pci gen 4
The P5 is PCIe Gen 3, the P5 Plus is PCIe Gen 4. Both will work in Gen 3 and 4 slots.
@@TheTechTank ok thanks a lot
What would be better to get, Addlink s70 1tb or crucial p5 1tb?
They're essentially identical in almost every way. Doesn't really matter which one you go with.
@@TheTechTank ok thanks. Also, should i go with the crucial p5 or samsung 970 evo plus? (Both 1tb) cause ive noticed that the evo plus is only £7 more
@@mort9715 970 EVO Plus is faster by a bit so I'd pay 7 more for it.
Just finished an assignment... Now I can watch this guilt free
Nice! Priorities FTW!
I was considering swapping my 1tb Sata Crucial MX500 to an Nvme so my games would load faster. After seeing this tho, I don’t think it’s worth it.
Definitely not worth it just for the slightly faster loading times.
wait a moment. 14 seconds to boot windows? my budget pc & ssd boot under 8 seconds. the price for the p5 2tb is almost the same as a slower ssd so may be worth it.
All systems will have wildly different launch times depending on the components installed and the software they're running. What's more important is the difference between the times, not the time itself. If your system and your games are already booting fast, a slower, higher capacity drive is a better idea.
Will it work with Legion 5 (2021)?
Yes sir.
Hi The Tech Tank, got a question regarding this SSD, I understand the heat issue but if I run it on USB 3.1 and not thunderbold or usb 4 wouldn’t that reduce the heat as it will technically run at 1/3 what it can achieve? Reason is can currently get it in 2tb for £146 where a Sata mx500 is the same price so want to opp for this, thank you in advance
Hey, as far as I'm aware it should definitely run cooler if running at lower than rated speeds.
