    • Appreciate that so much, man! I wouldn't personally upgrade from the 2700 to the 5600X or the 3700X for that matter. You'd get slightly better gaming performance with the 5600X, but probably less performance in work tasks, and the 3700X wouldn't be a big enough improvement to warrant the upgrade cost. If you do need an upgrade down the line, I wouldn't personally go lower than the new 5700X.

    • I was confused too, had to triple-verify my results and methodology to make sure I wasn't missing anything but I didn't find any issues. From the reviews I've watched and read, Intel's 12th gen has the upper hand in more titles overall than Ryzen, but obviously that'll vary depending on the reviewer/s. I'm sure you don't mean it in that way, but I didn't "choose" games that run better on Intel. I've been using the same games in my benchmarks for a long time now since older games tend to be more stable and reliable, and I try to get as good of a mix in there as possible since I can't afford to buy them all.

  • This performance isnt in line with the results hardware unboxed got where the 5600X outperformed 12400 in gaming in general. And often with quite the margin. I wonder what could differ? Did you run the memory with XMP only? Stock coolers?

    @ChrisKadaver@ChrisKadaver2 жыл бұрын
    • Benchmark numbers will differ a lot depending on the reviewer. No one will ever have numbers that are too similar, and if they do then it's a bit sus. As for why, it could be down to any number of things. I suspect in my testing the difference came down to the 12400 being run with DDR5 as stated in the video, and the motherboard's boosting features left enabled. The memory and motherboard are the only differences between the systems I used, so it's likely that. However it could also come down to older versions of games vs newer versions (which I usually account for), the choice of games with some being better optimized for one platform or the other (I just test the games I own), an older version of Windows vs a newer version (I always ensure both are updated to the latest but you never know), and a bunch of other small details that could impact results without reviewers even noticing. I'm happy with the validity of my results as I looked at other reviewers' and quite a few of them had similar numbers.

      @TheTechTank@TheTechTank2 жыл бұрын
    • Wasn't the Hardware Unboxed numbers very close though? I think the conclusion was that as far as those two CPUs go it depends on what platform you prefer. I think the Intel CPU is somewhat cheaper.

      @harsesishoktar9386@harsesishoktar93862 жыл бұрын
    • @@TheTechTank yes, there are just too many variables when it comes to system builds and testing. There is no real 100% accurate testing out there. Thus, reviewing multiple sources of benchmarks and then combining them all together and coming up with an average of the collected data would give more realistic numbers. At the end of the day, both are great platforms and it comes down to the budget and what the system is mainly used. Long are gone those days when Intel was dominating the CPU market 2006 - 2017.

  • I think that the 5600x is one of the best CPUs ever. It can be cooled by its stock cooler. The low watt consumption means that it will last many years and will have few issues with stability. It does well in gaming and also in applications (that benefit from single core and multi core alike). It's price is as of writing very good and the same goes for compatible motherboards. Only when Intel provides forward compatible motherboards which will make (in the long term) them become available at a great price as many can chose an older gen AMD motherboard like the B450 socket. My only concern is for those who are into video editing and would hugely benefit from the igpu of Intel that provides Quick Sync.

The 12400 is at a good price and I presume that the "new 14th gen" launch will cause the prices for the 12th and 13th generation to drop. Moreover the 12400 does not draw many watts and is easily cooled. The iGPU of 12th gen Intel can do wonders. For a budget GPU you can consider the Intel a380 or the new a580 but if you enjoy gaming go for NVIDIA and make sure the GPU has a wide memory bus (the recent RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti have a very narrow memory bus)

  • There are of course other considerations that weren't mentioned. The addition of b350, a320, and x370 boards now getting updates to be able to support 5000 series the cost of entry for a 5000 series system if you are willing to go used is way lower than the potential cost of entry of a 12th gen system. And even if Intel does give a second generation of support for the socket that's only one generation of upgrade path. So it's not as if that's a huge selling point. What would likely make a lot more sense from a future perspective would be to buy into a cheap b350 system now. Use it until you feel it's no longer meeting your needs. Then when it's time to upgrade again even if that's only two years down the road you'll be upgrading into a place where ddr5 is more affordable and you might have some storage solutions that can actually take advantage of the PCIE 5.0 on the boards.

I was lucky enough to get it before the crazy silicone shortage so there is that. One of the high points was its low power needs as my PC is constantly running so I always keep low power hardware in mind. • I tested on Windows 10 since that's what all of the other CPUs were tested on, so I don't think there was an issue there. As for 1080p, the reason we benchmark CPUs at 1080p is to ensure that the CPU rather than the GPU is the bottleneck. If the GPU was the bottleneck in a CPU review, you're basically just benchmarking the GPU at that point and not the CPU. That's why in GPU reviews (including my own) you'll see results for 1440p and 4K along with 1080p.

If you're going to be using GPU encoding, 4K isn't going to leave you with much headroom for the stream and you might get stuttering and low frame rates. • I just got a 5600X for under 200€, Indecided against 12th gen, because I'd get DDR5 with it which would drastically increase the price and more than negate the difference in price here (175€ for the i5 here and 200-225€ for the Ryzen) So I decided to stick with DDR4 and get a Ryzen instead of basically "wasting" potential the i5 has or having to get DDR5 and a more expensice MB. I've been putting off getting a new PC for so long that its reached a point where I basically have to get one as soon as possible. Otherwise I'd have waited another year or two for DDR5 and DDR5 compatible boards to come down in price as that would be whole different story if getting the MB and DDR5 were equally as expensive as getting the MB and DDR4 for Ryzen. As I said I don't see the point in running a 12th Gen Intel with DDR4, of course it can do that quite well but why waste potential?

    @jurassicpeter@jurassicpeter2 жыл бұрын
    • Totally understand where you're coming from, and you make a valid point. I just don't personally see running a 12th-gen chip with DDR4 as "wasted potential". Primarily because in a lot of the testing I've seen, the difference between DDR4 and 5 is often almost negligible for the time being due to DDR5's high latency, and it'll take another year or two before we see that latency come down significantly.

    • Hey man, always cool to see someone else from SA in my comments. The 5600X still more than holds its own. The new chips from AMD and Intel are way too expensive for the performance you'll be getting, especially if you need a motherboard and RAM upgrade too. The 12400 is also still a good option, and you'll be able to upgrade to the 13th gen when prices drop.

  • So I bought a ryzen 5600 to replace a mishap with a cooler change :D I feel the X is just a gimmick and your better taking the non ex and slapping a really good 360 AIO on it with the extra money. My reasoning behind this. My 5600 with a 360 cooler and +200mhz overdrive on results in the following cinebench 23 score with crappy cl16 3200 mhz corsair memory. multi 11886 - single 1522. The listed cinebench r23 score for a 5600x is multi 11710 - single 1536. So by hitting a few buttons in bios Im already out performing it. Either I got lucky on silicon or the 5600 is just a 5600x getting moved before the values are totally gone.

One thing that makes the 5600x attractive is the fact it still uses the AM4 socket. 12th gen Intel chips need a mobo upgrade which adds to the cost of the chip. Stiil, Intel have upped their game which is good for the industry and competition. Cant help but feel AMD is still ahead of the curve and will be for a while.
