DELPHINE DESCENDS
After her family is killed and her homeworld occupied, young Kathreen Martin is sent to the distant world of Furoris for re-education. She will live the rest of her life as a serf - to be bought and sold as a commodity of the Imperial Network.
When her only chance of escape is ruined, a chance mistaken identity offers her a new life as the orphaned daughter of a First-Citizen Senator and heiress to a vast fortune.
She vows to claw her way into power to sit among the worlds’ elite. Then, with her own hands, she will reap bloody vengeance on them all.
But to beat them, she must play their game. And she must play it better than them all.
BLACK MILK
Prometheus has the chance to bring his wife back from the dead, but doing so will mean the destruction of Earth.
Spanning time, planets and dimensions, Black Milk draws to a climactic point in a post-apocalyptic future, where humanity, stranded with no planet to call home, fights to survive against a post-human digital entity that pursues them through the depths of space.
Five lives separated by aeons are inextricably linked by Prometheus’s actions:
Ystil.3 is an AI unit sent back in time from the distant future to investigate Prometheus’s discovery...
The mysterious Lydia has devoted her life to finding a planet that the last remaining humans can call home…
Tom Jones (he’s a HUGE fan!) is an AI trapped inside a digital subspace, lost and desperate to find his way back to his beloved in real-time…
Dr Norma Stanwyck is a neuroscientist from 24th Century Earth whose personal choices ripple throughout time...
Prometheus must learn the necessity of death or the entire universe will be swallowed by his grief.

  • Good list, but I would have included Forbidden Planet. Literally, none of the movies on your list would exist if not for Forbidden Planet. It showed Hollywood and the audience that sci-fi cinema could be about more than just Flash Gordon style adventures for children, and could delve into deeper themes and concepts. With it's groundbreaking visual effects, incredible set design, and innovative electronic music score, it changed everything for the sci-fi genre in film and opened the way for the explosion of more adult oriented sci-fi films in the 60s and 70s and onwards.

Normally with this kind of thing I would be swapping loads of entries, but the only changes I would make here is to swap Interstellar for Forbidden Planet, and I would have Fist Contact as my Star Trek entry. • Having a limit of 10 is a constraint. I did wonder is Forbidden Planet would have mode the list, being such a fantastic milestone movie of the 50s; but no… I guess I was not surprised to see Dune on the list. Being a 2-part affair, the new Dune is allowed the luxury of time to tell a bigger story, something that the 1984 version was declined. My preference is still for Lynch's efforts on the basis of Set dressing, Costumes (the still-suits in this version looked more appropriate), Creature effects (I though the worms were better executed), and Casting. No animated entries? Oshii's Ghost in the Shell for instance. Or Otomo's Akira?

    @DavidGreen_au@DavidGreen_au10 ай бұрын
  • I don't think i could include interstellar in my top10, it goes from super accurate physics to ignoring it depending on the needs of the plot, which is usually forgivable, but in this case the physics is half of the story. Exchange it for "the thing" (carpenter version) and I'd pretty much agree.

  • Good list but; Brainstorm, Videodrome, Heavy Metal, Altered States, Demon Seed. To name a few. You are likely too young to know some of these. I suggest you check them out.

  • I would definitely add --- FORBIDDEN PLANET PLANET OF THE APES MINORITY REPORT EX MACHINA JURASSIC PARK And you can't have a Star Trek movie on your list without at least giving honorable mention to GALAXY QUEST, which is the second-best Star Trek movie.

  • My only real quibble is that Dune Part 1 is, well, half a movie, and we haven't seen the second half yet. So leave it off the list (for now anyway) and substitute either Gravity or Dark City.

  • So... is Soylent Green not a thing anymore? I could go for a heaping helping of that good stuff, along with a can of refreshing Slurm.

  • Making a Top Ten list of anything is going to spark a host of "But what about ...?" comments. So I'll only add one name, Tarkovsky. And now for something completely different. I've seen a number of your videos but only just found out you also write. I'm a hobbyist author and like to support other small time authors, so this morning I bought both your books. Maybe there's enough to pay for a cup of coffee and a chocolate muffin. 👋

  • I would put The last hope above Empire as being more impactful on society. Empire may have been better but it was the world building and special effects of the first Star Wars movie that made it a genre defining game changer. I know 2001 is worshipped by sci fi fandom, it's actually my pin number as a homage and easy to remember but the movie itself is a bit too deeply vague for me. Having to interpret a work of art is masturbation as far as I'm concerned.
