    • And you think about how they only release a couple videos on KZhead per month, why would I pay a subscription if you aren't pumping out way more content? Netflix and other streaming services have hit series and movies with a wide range of selection. However, the Watcher site only has the content ALREADY AVAILABLE for free here on KZhead!

    • @Personpersonpersonperson this is the most out of touch with reality comment. A lot of people complaining can afford it: it's the act of supporting this that we chose not to. Do you realize that people in other countries have to pay WAY more for this service, because a single USD is far greater than what they make in a day? Why should we pay for something that was originally free, and they already make 50k to 200k on patreon alone A MONTH? That's more than I make in a year, why would I give them more money? Bills add up when it comes to streaming services, and when Hulu gives me thousands of shows for 7.99 and they only give me 4 new episodes a month... who am I picking? Besides, I want their old shitty format and low budget quality back, not whatever fake TV production this is. They are allowed to do what they want, but they wouldn't gaslight their audience that "this is for you guys!" Anyway, yeah, you can afford it with your allowance because you don't have bills to pay, have a roof over your head, and don't pay for groceries. Really insensitive comment dude.

They could literally just move out of Cali and double their income, but that's not their goal. They want to go to Hollywood parties, and pretend to be big shots. That channel hasn't given us anything we subbed for since they started either. No Puppet Theater, no True Crime, just them taking vacations, or reading VIEWER SUBMITTED stories.

  • Based on the financial breakdown in the video, it sounds like they didn’t know how to budget and scale production appropriately enough based on what they were pulling in. I don’t have any reason to think they will be able to budget and scale production with the revenue they get from this streamer to avoid the same money troubles, so why invest my money? Plus the tone of the video, they don’t even seem 100% on board with this idea so why should I be?

  • i have a professor plushie as well. I shall remember the good times with him as it's farewell to Watcher. killed by ego & ambition. Apologies for this long rant but I want to explain it so someone who's never watched them could also understand it. My issues with Ghost Files, and why i haven't seen season 2, is I'm a skeptic. And what I loved about Unsolved was Shane's flagrant disrespect of what we can call "ghost hunting protocol". he never pretended to be scared when there was nothing to be scared of. he always pointed out ACTUAL real world causes for the noise. Ryan- "Is someone screaming? Hello?" *hooting intensifies* Shane- "That's an owl." Ryan- "Oh." Ghost Files has so little of the banter they had before. Now Shane said it was HIS decision to be more respectful, to play into the 'it could be a ghost' bc it's "good entertainment". Whether that's true or he was maybe told to not be so aggressively skeptical....Ghost Files started to feel more like those obnoxious ghost shows on TV I don't watch bc they're outrageously fake and every creak is their imminent death. Ryan's obsession with more formatting, more fake ghost detection tech that doesn't work but he spends a HUGE chunk of the episode explaining how it works [never why it works, as in how is a ghost communicating by changing the temperature in a room and a device somehow knows exactly how to turn such a thing into words), and more overall polish has made it feel less real, more scripted, and unbelievably it's eroded the chemistry they previously had. I mean in alot of the episodes I watched of season 1 RYAN didn't even seem as scared as he was in Unsolved and he's the believer! I understand overcoming the fear or maybe being desensitized to it but at the same time, it also seems like for all the jokes he's cracking or walking through an alleged haunted house eating popcorn (something that sounds far more Shane-like than Ryan-like) that he's still trying to be a super serious ghost hunter. It felt weird to watch. It was like Shane was actually taking it seriously and Ryan was the one trying to do both his role in Unsolved and also Shane's. So in the goodbye video when Ryan says he wants MORE formatting, when I already think the changes are far too much, I sense Ghost Files is going to be Ghost Hunters At Home in the near future. It's like they forgot, or completely misunderstood, what made their previous shows so good. Or maybe they think a flashy too expensive set makes up for the issues bc pretty. I'm disappointed in them. P.S. great video btw!

  • Here's the thing to me: in the video they talk about production costs, they talk about the expenses, it all comes down to money. Where was that concern when they hired on their crew? Now I'm no expert, but I can't imagine they actually need 20-25 full time people for the content they make since the bulk of their shows are the hosts sitting in a studio dicking around with each other or guests. Where was that concern when Steven would do these weird food challenges? Flying to Seoul and eating as much street food in 24hrs as possible can't be that cheap. Really, where is the concern that they're overpaying themselves? I read where Steven was on a podcast talking about how he wanted to buy a second Tesla, that he was getting some bougie chic celebrity food delivered to his house every day, and then how he needed to work on his multi-million dollar home. These don't sound like the concerns of someone whose company is in the red, this sounds like a spoiled rich kid about to ask for more money. Their studio and headquarters are in LA; they live in LA; they did a nepotism and hired on a shit ton of their friends and family and would probably feel awkward about trying to let anyone go. I can only imagine that they care so much about the production quality just so that they can be taken seriously by the entertainment industry, and are only using this streaming service nonsense to try and appear legitimate, not "just" a KZhead channel. They don't want to downsize, move, or cut production costs (you know, the stuff businesses are supposed to do to try and keep themselves afloat) because that would appear as a failure. It's like they learned nothing from their time on Buzzfeed. Rome is about to burn and they're just tuning their fiddles.

  • I’m kinda just wondering wtf happened between each other as all three are to blame for thinking to put their previously “free content” behind a paywall because the moment they started to private the old videos on the watcher channel on the streaming service. If Charlie understands how to finance people and own various of companies to get KZheadrs Adsense. Nux Taku was helped by Charlie’s company to get the stuff that belongs to Nux properly. The way he knows how much sponsorships, Adsense, patreon, and merch sales. Charlie knows if you finance it properly and towards your staff. It is fine. It just shows how all three are out of touch they are as ceo. I don’t understand if you are need of cash but also want to give the community. Why now do what Mr.Beast and oompaville and sell candy/food products because at least spending 6.99 feels valid as people would just buy food not a streaming service where people can buy it. Record all the shows and send them to internet archive and cancel subscription so people can watch it for free. (That kind of piracy exist and they do this just because if you start to gatekeep your work. There someone gonna pirate it. They shouldn’t alienate their audience like this as it is bad as it just feels they didn’t ask their followers on the option on shows that shows be cut or cut down the production on to fund larger projects. But no they go with the route of, “I want your money so I can eat expensive food and drive a Tesla while you are starving poor.” At least Markiplier has a sense to never alienate his audience and the production that he has done are the best.

      @MyKindofEntertainment@MyKindofEntertainment26 күн бұрын
    • I think what they’re trying to do is build a studio from the ground up similar to Disney, WB, and paramount. If watcher was going for a route of being their own independent 3rd party studio and then eventually have so much money to fund people’s smaller projects like a big media companies. Then the three should’ve been more transparent that is the final goal is eventually be on the market stock so some billionaires buys it is a huge stretch and the most possible outcome for a lot of ceos is to sell their company on the market when it goes on stock. They’re probably gonna explain like 2 months later in a podcast on this or some mole who used to work for Watcher on Reddit the real story of what is going on. Because we have nothing on who greenlit this and I want to wait until the 3 speak on on it.

Like you I can probably afford to subscribe and I watch about half of what they put out (especially Puppet History, my favourite all time content), but honestly the way they've done this has sullied my view of them as people, and I don't think I want to follow them anymore. What get's me with influencers and famous personalities is why they get so surprised when they spend years building a brand/personality and gaining a following that way, then get surprised when no one likes them if they make a completely opposite decision to the way they've been portraying themselves. Like John Mulaney and Ned Fulmer being 'wife guys', or Shane Madej portraying an 'eat the rich' facade, of course people will be upset if you go against that.

When I followed them to watcher I liked their content but their were certain aspects of the buzfeed version I missed. Mainly the simplicity of it. I don't like mystery files for that very reason. There's too much going on. I loved the format of true crime alot better. And they cancelled great shows like 'Are you scared' for food reviews shows. Also I agree that ghost files needs to be shorter.

  • The video felt like emotional manipulation. I'm not against paywalls but I have a hard time wrapping my head around how launching their own streaming platform would be more profitable since they're one channel. At least with Nebula there are multiple creators I already enjoy. They probably have investors but do enough people really watch all the content they produce that it's sustainable long term? I could afford it but I'd rather pay for bonus/extended cut content by episode so I could pick what particularly interests me since their content is really hit or miss sometimes.

  • I would really like to know their financials. People are only talking about production costs, but there is also payroll, rent on the space they use for their office, etc. Sure I would still watch them even if they went back to their buzzfeed like videos in terms of their quality, but would the people be okay with that? I know the fanbase says they wouldn't mind, but its a whole other thing if it were actually to happen. If they are not wanting to lay people off, and not wanting to be at the whims of the algo and adverts...why not go to nebula? or one of the already established streaming services?

    • I'm not trying to pocket watch, but considering their enormous amount of views on YT and their Patreon numbers along with sponsors, merch store, etc. if the problem truly is money then that is THEIR fault for spending so much on shows that aren't cutting it and/or expanding their company with nearly 30 employees and might have trouble keeping up with the costs of everything. I'm not gonna sit here and act like them reverting back to Buzzfeed level quality is a bad thing because I still enjoy their Unsolved content. Personally, I never thought it was 'low quality' but that's just me.

  • My perspective as someone who has a little bit more disposable income than the average American, i will say that a big draw of the Patreon, or me paying for KZhead Premium: is that I want to passively support KZheadrs in a tangible way when possible - SO THAT OTHERS LESS FORTUNATE CAN STILL WATCH FOR FREE. Thats the Patreon/KZhead social contract. If you take away that incentive, it becomes less fun. Thats why on Twitch its more popular to gift people memberships vs just giving money to the streamer. The noney goes to them both ways, but one also helps someone who couldnt afford it.

It's mostly just Ryan and Shane's hosted content that are popular, the rest of the stuff they do doesn't receive as much attention in comparison and even if they plan on making just using the face of two men carrying the entire company, it wouldn't pay off as much in hindsight. IDK if they mentioned if they want to put out videos later they made on their YT channel, cause how else will they be getting exposure? Them being on the internet this long you'd think they'd learn from other's past mistakes like CryptTV. If you don't consistently put your good stuff out there, they'd just fizzle out over time.

    • It’s the tone of voice, plus a couple other factors • they didn’t even ask the audience about this transition • they were going to put all the already available videos on KZhead on said streaming service and backpedaled when they saw the backlash, so it’s free today but I have to pay tomorrow??? And indefinitely too? Like it’s not just one purchase it’s a continuous subscription, and they don’t post enough content for that kinda money • they already made a great deal within their patrons on patreon, and those people who paid in the hundreds are made to pay AGAIN for what was supposed to be free content •they could’ve budgeted better, asked for sponsors, and made decent money that way without costing their followers • the turn off from what I’ve seen mostly from fans, is that the majority of their followers are broke teens and young adults, and they’re motto being “eat the rich” cause you really shouldn’t burn through your money over stupid shit like this

Sure it won't last forever but they are going to make millions while it lasts and then they can retire millionaires... While the guys are talented and we had fun watching them, it's obvious that they are not skilled at running a business, and most of all at budgeting. It's ridiculous to have so many employees and a huge office space in one of the most expensive places in the US. They should never have spent recklessly, added so many extraneous employees, and gotten, well, too big for their britches. They are young. Maybe they should grow up and think about paying their dues, and stop throwing money around. Frankly we liked them better when they were with Buzzfeed. Sadly they now come across as spoiled brats. 25 employees is absurd. Then you have Steven's completely ridiculous Dish Granted costs? No wonder they are bleeding money. Honestly in our opinion Steven adds NOTHING to that channel. We have no desire to watch entitled or self-entitled people eat outrageously expensive food. Our favorite bits were the ones years ago when Ryan and Shane went places like a pie shop, soda shop, Knott's Berry Farm, etc. and sat in den and talked about crime/mysteries. Their best content did NOT cost that much to produce and was far more interesting than some of the other stuff. Just a couple of guys doing fun and entertaining stuff and giving us their hilarious take on it. They blew it and we won't be ever watching them in the future. Struggling like most, only able to shop at Aldi, and driving a 15 year old car because of crappy employers not paying living wages even with college degree and over 30 yrs. experience. We do not have a cell phone and refuse to live in debt. NO desire to watch a bunch of self-entitled 20/30-somethings feel they don't have to pay their dues or work hard, and just want the cushy life at other's expense. Um, no thank you.
