Conservative MP Menzies quits party after misconduct allegations

Mark Menzies has resigned, after an investigation by the Conservative party said he has shown a "pattern of behaviour that falls below the standards expected of MPs" - Mr Menzies disputes the allegations.

It's the latest scandal to engulf the Tories since the Prime Minister entered Downing street, with a promise to bring "integrity and accountability to government.

If he had a normal job... he'd be sacked. As an MP he carries on until the General Election AND gets paid. This is disgusting.
If he had a normal job, police officers would visit his office desk and take him away in handcuffs as his work colleagues stare on.
By contrast, he's got a lovely income rolling in till the next election. It's a sweet ride for him. Anyone who says that it's tough for him though, it's hard for him, all this negative attention in his private life... If you had a sackable offence in a manual labour or service job, it would be weird if you could bow out later when it suits you. We would get fired and not be able to pay the rent this month. So forgive me if I'm not filled with sympathy for the Honourable Member.

For people who don't know, Fylde is the neighbouring constituency to Blackpool South where Tory MP Scott Benton has also recently resigned from, after he offered reporters, posing as investors, to lobby ministers in return for payments. A parliamentary investigation concluded that he had breached lobbying rules and recommended a 35-day suspension from the House of Commons, triggering a recall petition. Benton's subsequent resignation as an MP has now prompted a by-election on 2 May 2024. Could this be more than a few bad apples? Is it organised fraud and corruption, or is it just in the DNA of these shysters?
That took far to long, the party knew 3 months ago, the police should investigate, he needs jail time for stealing this money.

It is a conservative party thing because greed and selfishness are the core of their 'free market' ideology. Labour of course get some wrong 'uns but if you're joining the Labour Party you know the billionaire press is out to get you and until now it is unlikely you'll be in power. Also, the ethos that the Labour Party were founded on was community, equality of opportunity and public ownership. It's not like that now with Starmer at the helm.
