    • Every father is imperfect, compared to Mick in the film my father was evil. Funny that his brother died a year ago and he didn't want to go in the funeral and my aunt said he was afraid to go back to where his mother was buried because he used to beat her and his father up when he was drunk and he was overcome with grief cos she died suddenly. He's father was a psycho like him. Just your regular Irish family lol. Thank god I only fell for a few sluts before getting sense and have no pesky kids

Perhaps in another life your roles will be reversed. There are more things in heaven and Earth that can be dreamt of in your philosophy said a wise metaphysician. Travel well.... I can't stop listening to this music, there is something there that is timeless ,I think its the signature of the essence. Thomas Newmann is connected with it at some level.

    • You nailed that one, amigo. Bravo. Such music takes us to our 'Moments' ... the great ones, the not so good ones -- -- and of course, to the 'Moments' that will forever haunt us ... be they of heartache, un-fixable regrets or a love lost. His is music you listen to when you're in need of a good think. But then, one can always find a bright horizon of redemption in a boiling sky of conflict with Thomas Newman's wondrous music. D.A. ps: Colin Watt -- there's a book by the late, great William Goldman called, 'THE COLOR OF LIGHT' and I think you might dig it. Please let me know what you think of it and especially, the last line of the book. You'll understand then as to 'why' you should read it.

    • The past the present and the future are all progressive and linear moments seen all at once by the mind. Yes - the past is progressive, you only see it the way you have defined it, and that what controls the future. the present is the window of change, and it only passes quickly if you feel out of control. The present can be as long as you want it to be. Tennessee Williams is ascribing humanity from the prospect of linear perceptions, but time is spherical, and cycles, it doesn't go forward or backwards, it expands.

We argued a lot. But we never begged. I love my father very much and although things are much better now, I never forget the times he lied to me and told me he wasn't hungry so my brother and I could eat. Always those meals he made in the microwave, left them in there for when I came home. Anyway, years later I showed him this film and he smiled. He is 67 now. I hope I won't have to do what he did with my own son. But I will if I have to.

I think any father could relate to that as I think any father (or at least most) would die for their sons and daughters. I know I would. As someone who never really had a positive father figure growing up I will do anything to make sure my son does, this movie is criminally underrated as it shares a message we can all relate to. • Just finished watching this for the first time. What a phenomenal movie, I was introduced to Sam Mendes through 1917 and it quickly became one of my favorite historical pieces. Road to Perdition I think is up there on my top historical period dramas. I like a lot of movies, I like a lot of Tom Hanks movies, but this one is different. There was this sort of emotional bond I shared with the Sullivan's struggles in this movie. For the elder in his quest for revenger and the younger for struggling to come to terms with his father and their relationship. The movie had the perfect level of tension and drama and I felt visually arrested in some scenes just like how I was in 1917. Sam Mendes is one of our brightest stars in the director world. Thomas Newman deserves as much credit for creating the atmosphere for this wonderful picture.

  • Consider the greatness of the Newman musical family. Thomas' dad, Alfred, was the head of the 20th Century-Fox music department for two decades. When he ran Fox's music, Alfred watched over the careers of two young composers named John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. Thomas' brother, David, is also a first class composer. Thomas' uncle, Lionel, ran the Fox music department after Alfred left to go free lance. Thomas' cousin, Randy is the hero of all short people. This is just a stunning piece of music, worthy of being played in any concert hall.

  • This music accompanied by the picture of the boy hugging his father breaks me every time. Reminds me of my relationship with my father, and the relationship I have with my son. I couldn't even begin to describe the connection we all have. The child expressing all his love for his father, while the father maintains a cool and controlled head, as he keeps his eye on the looming horizion for what may come. 0.00 to 3.00 mins

  • My Father hurt me beyond measure and yet I loved him. And could never reach the depths of pain that he had to endure growing up in Ireland in the 1940s . His irrelevant words towards church and state ring true today. He wasn’t evil just hurt. He took no pleasure in hurting me and my mother and brothers and my only sister.
