Hope you guys enjoy the video! 😁 What's your take on Jony ive's departure?
ZONEofTECH Apple will be fine and Tim Cook is a very good CEO. Jeff Williams has been chosen to lead the design team because he is a product person (he has lead the Apple Watch project) and operations is intrinsically part of the design and product dev. Jeff will also be Apple’s next CEO! Lastly the reason Tim reacted is not because he is trying to cover something up but because it clearly was upsetting to see people make such big judgements about what they know nothing about. I think your channel is very good but PLEASE don’t slip into the media story chasing frenzy we see the internet constantly doing. Step back and research but also maybe just present arguments of different facts and scenarios and do an analysis rather than speculate and make sweeping judgements when you have little to substantiate. Rather than suggesting who you think should be put in charge - ask why Tim Cook has really done it. It will lead to more interesting analysis. Also read some Twitter reactions from ex Apple designers who explain why operations is so important with the design.
ZONEofTECH I love it!!!
They probably scrapped the iPhone SE design because I bet the 2020 iPhone will have that square design.. sadly, it seems as if Apple is about to plateau in terms of design..... shrink the bezels and you’re pretty much done. They need to focus hard on the foldable iPhone! Also, give us MacBooks with thinner bezels and a reliable keyboard!
Well.... I think after today I am even more confused about the direction at Apple.... Killed off the 12" MacBook? Throw out the MacBook Escape? Lowering prices on MBA and MBP? Something is telling me there is a going to be a big broo-ha going on in the executive rooms. Over time we will hear the real story and until that time I just follow the news, most of it is very difficult to follow so thanks for lining up the history.
Tim makes more money by insanely inflating the prices
Apple 1999: Blows minds, not budgets. (3:51 ) Apple 2019: Blows budgets, not minds.
very true..😂😂
Apple 2029: Blows, neither.
You clearly didn’t pay any attention or weren’t buying anything from Apple in 1999. For whatever reason.
well i mean they always blew budges
Apple 2019: Just blows.
Apple performed better financially under Tim cook because of Apple's reputation that Steve had created, if Apple were a startup, it never would’ve taken off under Tim Cook.
Sid P I really agree with you. Steve Jobs had left an awesome legacy behind that has carried Apple this far. When I think of Apple today, Steve still comes to mind. His legacy lives on and sadly, is running out for Tom Cook.
Sid P couldn't agree more
Tim is the worst CEO that Apple's ever had. Somebody should take over unless Apple will be ruined
@@littlekidzdaddy 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Actually it would've never took off if I wasn't for me. They stole my designs. I SHOULD BE HEAD OF A MULTI BILLION DOLLAR company. Not them. Fucking thieves.
This is what happens when a design-driven company is led by a bean counter. Good luck to Sir Jony.
jalabi99 fine for me as long as we get working keyboards
jalabi99 He outsourced his studio, apple still needs his studio!
@@EVPaddy Done! 2 months later. ;)
Not true sir, under Steve Jobs the technology of their products was always superior to competitors and years ahead. Since Steve passed they only focused on design and this led to epic screwups like the 2016 MacBook Pro
But the question not being asked is "did Johny even WANT to be CEO after Steve's passing?"
Jony Ive realised audience would throw eggs at him if he praises the *$999 stand with his usual & iconic tone,* so left for good.
LMAO
Lol my god
As a aspiring designer, we don't think about money that way so there's actually a deeper problem.
Walter Guevara you don't seem do get the point here
When you get to the point where you can credibly drop the “aspiring”, you most certainly will be thinking about money as one o father primary things.
"The design team was frustrated, they wanted to make the designs, but the executive team just wanted to focus on profits" ...mmm... I think we've heard something similar before... that time, someone left Apple and created Next, and participated in Pixar. What will happen now, I wonder...
Right. And all those things were solely the ideas of Steve Jobs. And no one else.
@@godofbiscuitssf Totally, none of that would exist without Steve /s
That’s right 👍🏽
hoping that Apple change its ways and kick Tim Cook out of it. Rehire Jony Ive and become the CEO himself. Damn Apple needs a new Steve Jobs, not just another crook on the horizon.
wait what? i don't unfderstand the reference. who? what?
Tim Cook would make a great CEO at Amazon or Wal-Mart - he would be just as happy selling building insulation and stationery as iPhones and iMacs.
And that's a lot of damage! - Selling something like adhesives would sit well with his creepy manner.
Tim had some pretty big shoes to fill, I think he did so remarkably well. Steve knew how to pick his sucessor. Johnny Ive have been wanting to leave for years in order to be able to spend more time in his native U.K.
yeah, improving the distrubution efficiency or something : - S

He has only worked for computer companies since obtaining his B.S. in Industrial Engineering (IBM, Compaq, Apple) so I think he is more suited for a computer company.
When Job died, Apple died. Back then, the fact it last till now is because large "organism" have inertia.
Now Apple compettitors can contract Jony Ive's services for their products.
Exactly, they can contact Jony Ive to make their products design like Apple..
Samsung is already ahead of Apple in terms of design and hardware technology. Android however could use some refinement. Ives isn't a technical person so no help there.
dinnerandashow technically i made some research and apple is definitely is way ahead than samsung in hardware and software,i mean in the smartphone side i don’t know about the other tech but personally i find samsung design is way cooler
God, the processor is the brain of each device that apples makes but, they’re made by windows! The other parts that apples makes are irrelevant to honest. Oh nice home button and cam....good work Apple.

Tim Cook is another John Scully. Safe business over daring innovation. Sad
AWDTH1111 daring price though hahaha
AWDTH1111 based on this information.
And that was the opposite reason apple was created
What is apple without innovation? That's why we love apple, they are daring, they always want to breakthrough, and that's why we spend the extra bucks for them. Today's apple has been eaten
Tim Cook is nothing but a care-taker, and without ANY VISION!

Apples innovations are completely thrown out the window. It’s all about monthly subscriptions and how to get deeper into costumers pockets.
Spot on.
Buddy Rare EXACTLY! The industry is shifting on monthly subscriptions! Soon enough people will not be able to afford all those "subscriptions"... then what? What will the billionaires do, if the 99% cannot afford their products and their dubious "services" anymore!

Apple used to make fantastic products, but now they don't... They are facing the Nokia syndrome.
Not exactly. Nokia made great phones until the very end, it's just that their software became obsolete in the world of touchscreen smartphones (post-iPhone), and Nokia not being a software company, just did not have the resources to compete anymore. Even the largest software company in the world at the time, Microsoft, did not anticipate the impact of smartphones, so we could forgive Nokia for failing at that, although they could never forgive themselves 😉🙄😂
@@bttp011 I would call it "Blackberry syndrome" because this company was doing exactly what Apple is doing now "overpriced products with nothing new, not listening to what their customers want/need"
Apple never started with rubber boots.
Rather enjoy my HomePod BTW
I assure you that Apple is still alive and well...iPhone is currently the fastest smartphone in the market. Apple revolutionized authentication with their TouchID and FaceID technologies. Companies developed more seamless designs that incorporated biometrics after Apple did it. Then they revolutionized wireless earphones by creating the design of having a charging case that magnetically holds 2 individual earbuds. Next they're about to use custom CPUs to power their Macs and ditch Intel for something more optimized for their macOS. The future is very bright for Apple
It is sad to see Apple lose its soul after Jobs and Ive.
Its to the point where the core customers are getting bored
@Jack Handy Reap what they sow in what way? By becoming the most valuable company on the planet? Also what device are you reading this on? Guaranteed if it weren't for apple that product wouldn't exist. All competitors like Microsoft and google ever did was copy apples formula and make slight alterations.

Tim Cook inherited an upward growth path that was created by innovative design! Instead of understanding WHAT created the success, he has abandoned it!
Exactly this was my tought when I heard in this video that Tim produced more money for Apple than Steve did. Tim just ripped the success of Steve, nothing more. From what I’ve seen into the last years is that Tim it is just a mediocre person, easy to manipulate, don’t have the personalty of Steve. Apple it is still doing well thanks to the strong foundation build by Steve, but as the times goes, without further inovation from the leadership level, Apple will begin to fade away.

Jony Ive is one of my Generation Creativity Geniuses. My University freshman year 1998 we had our first MAC pc in all those colors and we LOVED THEM. Thank you Jony Ive🌟
The iPhone 4 was the true revolutionized phone ever.
Yep, although a slightly improved version of the design, iPhone 5S, was truly the best phone at the time. iPhone 4, while looking great, still had that small 3,5" screen. 5S was a tad taller and much better for it. The last derivative of 5S, iPhone SE is still a very good phone, even supports the latest iOS 13. My daughter has it and it's great. Basically a 6S in a 5S body, with much better battery life than it's bigger brother 6S.
Maybe they should have made ive the CEO. Sounds like he kept getting shorted...
If you are a designer / developer / engineer - and they put you into a (very difficult) management position which is, majority of the time, far removed from the work you're passionate about - you're bound to be miserable...Cook was the right person to appoint as CEO, but he needs to connect more to the customers and products - the company is already extremely strong in terms of the supply chain and logistics - he needs to focus on its core again.

One of the reasons I left Apple for Android is because their innovation became painfully stale.

Thanks for your researches man!
I thought I had a good pun when SJ passed away (RIP), but now I have two: "Apple has no more Jobs available for creative innovation" and "Now that Ive left, Apple won't be fancy anymore"
Damn you nailed it!
Jony Ive was an autonomous, untouchable employee. There was no approval authority over him; whatever he designed went out the door. He is responsible for a number of design triumphs. I remember him triumphantly showing off the iOS 7 wallpaper that quickly made so many people dizzy that they had to remove it in a quick update. He masterfully decreed Helvetica to be Yosemite's system font, which did not work out at all. He designed the fabulously popular G5 Cube and the incredibly ingenious crowd-not-so-pleasing trash-can Mac, which lost Apple a lot of business in deferred purchases. He also produced not one, not two, but three iterations of the butterfly keyboard, which obviously had not been tested by humans for usability or machines for durability Jony Ive's public experimentation with the butterfly keyboard cost Apple goodwill and again, money in deferred sales. If anyone had had the authority to check Jony Ive's work, the butterflies would never have left the net. Most of Jony Ive's designs were excellent, and even his failures showed excellent design chops, but he demonstrated that he was too introverted to listen to feedback or test his designs. He was a lone wolf, not a very good manager. Making him CEO would have been a huge mistake. Jony Ive is an excellent designer, but he is not a god, as his worshipers profess. My thought is that Jony Ive realized he was about to destroy his reputation if he continued to work without an approval and testing process, and resigned to save himself. The fact that he has no ill will to Apple, and that no one in Apple had the power to override his judgment or fire him, shows that his departure was his decision and his alone. Retrofitting himself with an approval and a testing process on his position would have been humiliating. He must have realized that he was a design genius who needed a manager, but didn't have one. So he left.
He was never autonomous. Helvetica was never the system font. The G5 was never in a Cube.

Bottom line is that Tim Cook isn’t someone that should be trusted. Apple is quite unethical in its business practices.
Tim Cook is more concerned about being a SJW than innovation at a technology company. No wonder Jony got frustrated and had enough.
Apple before: Blow minds, not budgets. Apple now: Blow your pockets with washed up “innovations”.
The real reason I believe is that he has lost control over design. The Jobs/Ive collaboration was the best this century has ever had. But now he has just become a symbol within the company and he is not liking it.

The only thing that keeps me comeback to Apple is macOSX.
really detailed video .. good work !
Not a huge Tim Cook fan by any means, but you have to look at the history behind the manufacturing success of the iPhone4, in which Cook purchased all the available CNC Mills in the world in 2007 -08 and placed them on the floor in Chinese factories soley to mill out iPhone cases. That successful ramp is what put Apple where it is today in terms of a volume product at 10x profit margin of competitors. That kind of execution impressed Steve. He would never think anyone could replace him anyway. Even Ive. Sorry to say.
What services has Tim focused on? iCloud has been neglect. OS X. Apple Wallet and so much more. Tim is a great industrial engineer, but is not a visionary. Apple needs a visionary.
It will be interesting when we look back at Apple in about five years and pinpoint all the mistakes they did after Steve died and how the company went from being the number one rated company in the world to being bought by one or another Chinese tech company.
All you orientals do is copy cat with cheaper componets anyway.
Comprehensive and concise. Nice video, man!
I love Jony Ives. He is a great inspiration to me and would been my dream to work with him. I wish him all the best in his new venture and in his pursuit to revive his creative spark ⚡️ my fellow Englishman
Real reason is "starting your own venture makes you more money, and you are your own boss"
I don't think he's left to make more money. I think he's likely to make less money and will be happy to make less. It's hard to earn more than an Apple CEO. He's probably left because either he's unhappy with the direction Apple is taking or he wants to design a greater range of products and not just phones and computers. Apple have failed before. A money man is important to make a company profitable but you don't make him the head guy if your sector is all about innovation with products that have short life cycles.
This is similar to Jordan Peterson's argument of how companies go through a cycle: "All the creative people are there at the beginning. They get chased out until you have nothing but managers and administrators. Then the environment shifts, then the company dies."
You are so far off the mark it's not funny. Apple is doing fabulous as are their products, they have enough cash to buy other countries. Their latest iOS, iPadOS, and Catalina operating systems are amazing. Go to your local Apple store any day of the week and you'll find it full of customers. People like you have been quoting doom and gloom for years, and yet all is well. The whole anti-Apple movement is just a populace glee club with very little understanding of innovation and technology. At the end of the day why should you care, go buy something you like, that's what I do, and I buy Apple products. Nothing to be afraid of.
Jordan Peterson also sold glorified self-help books before getting addicted to benzodiazepines and fucking off to Russia to put himself into a coma, at the advice of his fuckup of a daughter, which has now given him brain damage.
At 13:33 you missed one key element, he also focuses heavily on Supply Chain, which is the only way he can generate the incredible numbers he has, there's even a picture of him and Steve talking about it.
I'm sad for us b/c I love great apple designs and may not see any new/great designs in the upcoming years but I'm happy for Jony for finally doing what he loves 🙂 I like your reviews and look-n-feel. It seems you have been working hard to provide us with great content. Happy for your continued success! @ZONEofTECK ... keep 'em coming.

Hyung he sold all but “just enough to keep getting reports” which is minuscule, upon leaving Apple.
I am NOT watching this video from an Apple device.
Todor Todorov I am wathching this video from an Apple device.
Great video man. Thanks!
RIP Johnny Ives. Wait what, this isn't a dedication video? Long live the Ives.
Johnny I’ve died it’s been confirmed RIP
I haven’t had a compute or tv or game console on 7 years now....I know. Bills man. Bills. Make it hard.
Hang in there, dawg.

Please get on with it. This is overlong. Everyone knows the history of Apple!
milking the youtube algorithm by making longer videos
One of the few guys out there deserving the following that they get on KZhead. Great analysis man!
What is the name of the intro song? @0:35
I am watching this on my ps3 and I don't have any apple products
Me on my PS4 and the only Apple product owned by me is an iPhone 5s still a great phone but now Apple has become too costly for regular consumers
In my opinion Huawei and oppo even Samsung is doing pretty well in design perspective
If the iPhone had not been invented by Apple, would there be today a smart phone that we see used everywhere?
Fabulous assessment!
Great research piece.
I can't wait until September when the 2020 dongles will be announced!
LOLOLOLOL
I heard Jony Ive left Apple and started his own design firm.. which apple will use for design ideas?
They should've done whatever it took to keep him - when you have a guy like Ive with his brilliance for design, you don't let him go, you give him whatever he wants so he'll stay.
This was a great video! You’re my favorite KZheadr!
But who's going to be speaking when Apple introduces new products now?
Probably Phil
@@iwanttoknowmebetter5878 his voice is not good. Johny ive's voice makes me feel like im in the future and sophisticated because of his british accenture. Phil sounds average and (kinda fat because he breathes heavily and doesn't speak very loudly) you know what i mean? not trying to be mean
Beyonce
satan?
Philip Schiller - Was absent at the last Apple event, I wonder if he is leaving next ⁉
Guy Fisher Oh man don't scare me like that! I'm counting on Phil to be the one and only who will always introduce to us the new iPhones.
Great story, thanks👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
