  • Its universally accepted that her boyfriend was crusty, and her friends, not that great. Like is she not supposed to take her job as a personal assistant seriously....

    • Feel like the friends weren’t being supportive when they should’ve been. She took up a new job to make better connections for her career, and had a very stern boss as shes told them, but while they happily take her gifts they fuck around with a phone call from said boss and get irrationally upset when she ends up being too busy to hang out like she used to.. like, have these people never seen someone with hectic job?? Clearly andy isnt being distant on purpose, and even though she became more invested in the field of work of her job that doesnt mean she’s a diva now.

  • Fun fact: the dress Emily wears in her final scene is a version of the dress Miranda was setting up when she told off Andrea in the beginning. It shows that what she (Miranda) put together ended up being what's in fashion.

  • These days I’d say there’s a common consensus that the friends and boyfriend were at the very least not extremely understanding, especially when her plan was that she will do that job for one year only. I very much didn’t see it that way when I was a kid and watched it first but as an adult, I think your support group should be more understanding. Also, he’s a chef?!?? Like that’s such a demanding job how do you not empathise. And she’s gonna be a journalist after, so still hella demanding. Also they loooved her gifts yet acted rude. If my boss was ringing and they played around with my phone like that, you wouldn’t catch me speaking to them without an apology. Bare rude, they’re not teenagers, they should understand the job market. Talk to her like an adult about her changing, your brain is fully developed surely.

    • I've watched this movie an obsessive amount of times. Although I agree that her friends and boyfriend weren't very supportive, (even though I personally feel like it's justifiable, like, they're not robots who would be a-ok with everything Andy does even if she suddenly becomes, NOT her, they were shocked, she's all of a sudden NOT the andy they knew and loved, but yes, the phone thing was rude) they're not the ones who swayed her to abandon Miranda, she even chose the call over her boyfriend-- Andy chose Miranda, she was on her way to becoming Miranda, losing friends and missing out on doing what she truly loves... she realized that and that's why she left. a dramatic realization, obvi you cannot achieve by "talking like an adult".

      @js.8322@js.8322 Жыл бұрын
    • @@js.8322 Okay... except that doesnt make any sense lol. It was made clear that she wasn't really 'becoming Miranda', since her stated plan was only to work there for one year. She wanted it for her resume, to open other doors for the career she actually wanted, which she wanted the entire time lol. She was shown another side of the fashion industry and learned have some appreciation and respect for it.. but its not like she was being groomed to be the next in line, to eventually take over and become the next 'Miranda'. It was clear it was only going to be for one year. She missed one birthday, literally one time lol. They should have all been able to be adults and be understanding for the time being. This job, which again... was only temporary, was going to open a lot of doors for her. So its pretty unreasonable that they were acting like she's turned into some kind of monster, for going after a career she's always wanted. They were being childish. Period.

  • The effect this movie has had socially is interesting. Meryl Streep has said a lot of young people have spoken to her about her character and how it influenced them in their career's. Especially men, which surprised her. Adrian Grenier who played Nate said in retrospect that the boyfriend and the friends were terrible to Andrea. But the one who has been effected by the most is who the story is about, Anna Wintour the chief editor of American Vogue. The book that influenced this movie was written by one of past assistance. Once the book became a best seller, then the movie became a cultural event. While Wintour could have denied how she is, but she embraced it. Doing a documentary (''The September Issue''), going on TV talk shows, being more public with her MET Gala work, and even doing a KZhead interview with Meryl. So essentially the Iron Lady of Fashion thrived after the film came out and which would have killed most.

It’s pretty toxic that they made it out like Andy was in the wrong when she never had I’ll intention at any point. Just like Miranda, her friends and boyfriend had sky high expectations for her and were ready to toss her aside when she didn’t meet those expectations.

  • As someone with several family members in culinary, I can tell you that the boyfriend would have to have a whole lot of damn nerve to be giving her a hard time about how much she works. Culinary is long, hard hours and towards the end he says he was offered a position as a sous, so he was definitely putting in a lot of time in the kitchen that get there. I hate that they have her tell him that he was right about everything when he and their friends were really unsupportive the whole time.

  • Miranda smiling at the end is a callback to what Nigel says to Andrea during James Holt's fashion preview ("There's only been one actual smile on record and that was Tom Ford in 2001"). Unless I'm mistaken that's the one and only time she smiles during the entire movie.

  • Florals In spring!… Groundbreaking!! I agree with everything you said about this movie. I was in a similar situation as Andrea, except it was at 2 of my previous jobs, and it caused arguments with family members, which was the worst. Especially with the 2nd job because one of my family members sometimes drove me home, but I rarely left on time, if ever. I think the entire time I worked there, I maybe left 3-5 times actually on time. Especially when I was struggling financially, I picked up even more hours, and it was a nightmare with the same family members. It felt like I was going home just to battle and being made to feel guilty about it, and it made me want to stay at work even longer so I didn't get yelled at on the ride home and made to cry...It was the worst. Disclaimer: I lived close enough to the job that even though I had a car and could drive, I would walk there instead. When I got out late, they were paranoid about me walking home, which I understand, but at the same time, my house was practically right around the corner...

  • Brad I love your vids. And I wanted to let you know. Their was supposed to be a sequel based on the second Novel called Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. And the story from my understanding was. Andy is the editor-in-chief of a bridal magazine and Emily is now her assistant and best friend. Andy is preparing for her upcoming nuptials and she is dreading the day when Miranda will come back into her life. And thats all I know. The cast of this one was on board to make it but it wasnt picked up. Keep up the great work.

  • Allow me to put the hurricane problem in perspective: We've all seen Mirandas job is her whole life, even over her marriage and children. So whenever she gets a chance to make time for them, of course it would be important for her. THAT'S what Miranda's really upset about. And she DID go easy on her for not pulling it off: she didnt fire her.

  • The villains of this movie will always be Andy's Boyfriend and friends, they couldnt even support her for less than a year in a life changing but intense job! The BF was thrilled to be all over her physically when she glowed up and the friends happily accepted luxury gifts but god forbid Andy graft hard for one year to advance her career massively and not be able to be as available as before. The BF and friends offer zero emotional support, telling her just to quit repeatedly, The boyfriend is an absolute man child who needs his wants and career to be the priority in their relationship and the artist friend starts the whole cheating drama from a god damn kiss on the cheek. Its vile, one sided and gaslighty the way they treat her especially the boyfriend, love the film but they give me massive ick vibes. A final note as well maybe its just the era this was made in but if Miranda was a man no one would think she was an unreasonable, mean bitch or portray her as that. She would be seen as a cuthroat, savvy, business minded boss. Theres a real sexist lense we are made to see this film through imo.

  • THANK YOU DEBBIE FOR THIS SUGGESTION! I am actually obsessed with this movie😂 There is also a clip online that I’d highly recommend you watch. It’s super short but it’s Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt presenting an Oscar (I think 2007) and they do a bit with Meryl in the audience acting as Miranda and it is the funniest thing ever. They’re all such icons🤩🤩

  • There have been video essays highlighting the faults/toxic behavior from the unsupportive boyfriend/friends. The first time seeing it, I did agree that he and her friends overreacted. She should have stuck to her ground and explain herself, but not validating his needy whining about her job. I’m sure his job might leave little room for her, but I suppose when it affects his free time, and her friends’ inability to hear her out or even support her. Toxicity all around, but it is a fun film. Meryl F-ing Streep! Effortless sass.
