I learned at 16, just about anyone can do it, the amount of decks barely matters and you can learn in afternoon--- and about 25% of the time you are playing blackjack you might get around a 53% chance to win the hand. It's a tedious grind, and you are probably better off with another scheme or a job. - Maybe, you can get a team where your "whale" pops in and only plays during a positive shoe, but so few games allow mid-shoe entry anymore that have rules that aren't entirely tilted to the house so far it's futile, but whatever.... I tend to agree and disagree. I don't feel like I watched the whole movie, like some other trailers, but at the same time, it's not exactly confounding. Ex military, PTSD, either revenge or self-destruct... yadda yadda. We've seen this plot 100 times before, to the point that some of us won't really care how it ends... we just aren't drawn into it, to begin with. Rounders was clever because it took a bit of what worked in Good Will Hunting. This movie looks like a trailer for a TV series. But, what it fails to emphasize is how the protagonist got his gift... if he has one at all. Maybe that's the exposition of the movie? But, that isn't interesting. What's interesting is a Rain Man. Even lower grade gambling films like The Cooler had a great hook to them. I just don't see the appeal for this.

I thought that was George Clooney for a second😂
I will watch anything directed by Schraeder. He has created some incredible films. Here’s hoping this one lives up to his name.
Really happy for the direction Tye Sheridan is going for in his career.
First saw Oscar Isaac as Standard, in Drive. Been a fan ever since.
Tiffany Haddish trying to be half-serious? Interesting.
She is a good actress, just because she is also funny doesnt mean she cant play other roles
lyta quiroz i know you’re her on an all but damn. Chill
You're one of those who hates talented people, aren't ya? Oh, the misery and self hatred.. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
@jon orlando Or you're labeled a hater. The fact is... not all actors are great actors (or good for that matter). The Rock is the highest paid in Hollywood... that makes him a box office draw... not great actor.
For All you haddish lovers. Not because her role has been a comedian. She doesn't fit the script.
It’s my man Oscar Isaac so it’s mandatory that I go see it, even despite the fact that I might be pissed off by the end from a weak plot caused by lackluster screen writing.
Lackluster screen writing is very much Paul Schrader's brand.
You don’t count cards in poker. The title makes no sense.
The title got you to watch this trailer.
He's playing blackjack at one point in the trailer if you watch it.
@@benstr8156 Right, because he thought it was a blackjack game.
@@benstr8156 actually it didn’t. The 2+2 poker forum brought me here after someone posted a link to the trailer to find out what people thought of it.
@@codyfaurie6203 what’s the time stamp? I must have missed it. Regardless, the synopsis specifically says he plays in the World Series of Poker. Seems odd to name it after a five minute blackjack scene.
On another note, "White Rajah" is an amazing book/biography as well!
Why’s a card counter playing poker? There’s no edge in that. All you’re calculating is odds, and everyone in the poker room already knows how to do that.
Exactly. Reading into a 52 card deck isn’t valuable when there’s 28 untouched cards at the end of the game.
@@suicideking89 plus you only get to see 5, 6, maybe 7 cards.
i was thinking the exact same thing...poker? mmm...nope....i like the actors, so i want to see how it makes any sense within the scheme of the movie..but i dont understand that aspect of the trailer at all...
Yeah, I was like, this should be all about blackjack, not poker.
Or the people are the cards he's counting and nobody is playing with a full deck.
Can't wait to see him as Moon Knight
God I love Isaacs. Very much underrated actor.
yup he is.
Fuck that Paul Schrader is the real attraction
@sabahiya lol, I'm with you - I was like, how is he underrated?! Not to mention he's in the upcoming Dune and was announced last year to be the lead in Metal Gear Solid, as well as numerous other projects.
@sabahiya yeah he is in some movies and famous one too but most of the movies he is in as a support actor. But as a main actor his movies don't get recognize, probably bcz of low budget production. So even if he does high budget movies, It is not as a lead actor so therefor his appreciation level stuck at support role. It is just his fan following number is not that typical high. And lmao check his facebook fan followers 200k and Elizabeth Olsen 4.2mil followers with a dead account where she don't even post anything. So yup that is pretty underrated.
Honestly.. sadness of all the comments, is the fact that no one knows what exactly Paul Schrader has done. That may be the fact that he is probably one of thee greatest screenwriters of all time.
I loved First Reformed, and even though I personally enjoyed it a bit more than Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters, that was also very well-made. Maybe it’s just because of the trailer, but this looks pretty safe and standard as far as crime-dramas go; words I would NOT apply to those two Schrader movies I just mentioned.
He wrote Taxi Driver, he is very underrated
He's a great screenwriter but I don't think he's that good of a director. Considering how this looks, the dialogue they've presented and the fact the main character is a card counter despite it being centered around poker, this might be a miss.
He's also a director with a distinctive style. When he directs his own work, count on a different experience than you'll get anywhere else. Love him or hate him, he's sui generis and there are fewer and fewer filmmakers about whom we can say that.
I do love his movies and his movies aren’t for every one that’s why it’s good.
Been waiting for another good card games show since the blackjack movie
I liked 21. The Rounders is a good one too
Youre gunna have to wait longer because this movie looks awful
@@BWeezie405 “ Play that man his money”
Rounders my friend
California Split is a good gambling movie.
I’m a mysterious man in a downward spiral. I’ve done bad things, was framed, and paid my debt to society. While incarcerated, since I am bad, I learned a new skill so that I can still be bad when I get out but without killing people. Being bad is all I know and there is no redemption for people like me. I think that about sums it up.
hey man that sucks i'm sorry
@@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259 not sure if.....
Loved First Reformed, hopefully Paul Schrader is gonna keep the streak going.
My Boy Isaac is Bad Ass! He's the only reason Ima watch this.
What’s the song in the trailer?
How is no one here mentioning Paul Schrader?
How do you count cards in poker?
I nodded off in the middle of this, how many cards were there?
53
6,000,000
This looks very interesting. I'm ready for it.😍
It looks extremely bad
@@jayt5779 Not to me and that's why I'm ready for it. Different strokes for different folks.
@@jayt5779 I think it's the trailer that is, but if the film will look really different from how the trailer is, that's interesting.
We need more movies like this and less superhero BS if movies in theaters are going to survive as a thing.
Does anyone else feel like they accidentally watched the entire movie by watching this trailer? Or that's just me?
So tell us what you think is going to happen. And how does it end?
@@NeedsContent Watching a movie is not just about seeing how it ends. Basically this trailer showed you every setting where the movie takes place and pretty much every character in it. I'd say that's giving away a lot
@@Eralen00 Granted the trailer does reveal a lot, but there's still a sense of uncertainty in terms of what's going to happen. Sure I can make guesses, but the trailer hasn't given away "everything", not like some trailers that really do show the entire movie.
@@mvpfocus That's true, I don't actually plan on watching this. It looks... flat, I don't know how else to describe it. And I can see why people people feel like the trailer gave everything away. My guess is, the people that put the trailer together maybe didnt have a lot to work with.
willem dafoe is the fkn man💪🏻💪🏻
This looks like a lifetime movie
I personally find Paul Schrader (somewhat) hit or (somewhat) miss, if that makes any sense. Yet here I am agreeing to watch his next instalment. Good writer, though definitely inspired by some very personal demons that I’ve come to respect he just keeps to himself, preferring to allowing us a brief experience in his 90-120 minute features that he writes and sometimes directs.
Did you just show me a trailer of the trailer and then tell me to "watch the trailer" that I already clicked on?!
You're telling me this ISN'T, a lifetime movie?
Pity Oscar Issacs wasnt around in the 70/80s when they were making amazing films. He would have given Pacino, De Niro, Ford, Nicholson a run for their money. Fantastic actor.
yawn
Paul Schrader? Alright I'll watch it. ..was impressed with his last movie First Reformed.
Was expecting some sort of cologne to appear at the end of this.
Well, I saw Dafoe. I gotta watch this now.
Was this made for tv? And how many of the close ups were in front of green screen? Cause it doesn't look right.
great b/s you produced over there
Sooooo how was Martin Scorsese involved? Did he do the camera operating? Best Boy grip? I'm curious since he's normally a writer/director but didn't write or direct this?
Card counter can be a counter of any cards..... That means they doesn't have to be sensed at particular game or particular cards..... It can be any type of cards.... Examples can be given as visiting cards, business cards and it goes on and on and on.... Guess it and feed it guys for future use....
I just watched this trailer on KZhead!
This looks great!
Oscar Isaac has the grey hair I'm striving for.
I think the reason this trailer feels off is because they're trying to market a Schrader movie as a blockbuster. I reckon it's gonna be something Yorgos Lanthimos-ish
This looks great
Oh wow this looks like a great film! Gosh so happy to see the growth of Oscar Isaac as an actor, I remember him from an Law & Order episode many years ago where he played a college student who felt into a skeem with a voodoo priestess.
Looks like trash
That's a MUST SEE
if you want to learn about tilt just ask Hellmuth, he'll show ya. The actor looks kindda like Esfandiari.
Cool, Willem Dafoe and Oscar Isaac.
Is anyone else wondering why he wrapped all the furniture in white cloth?? Also, that is a lot of cloth! I need the why's and the how's!
Love a good Poker movie.. gives me a rounders kind of vibe.. I’m intrigued I’ll watch it for sure
I was hoping this would be about Lawrence Fishburne chasing down black jack counters and giving them a beat down.
The Card Counter😂
Oscar Issacs is a great actor.
When is this show coming out?
fall
It's a movie, not a TV series. Do you not know who Paul Schrader is?
I like Marvel movies and I love indie films too (Nomadland was great!). But I have to agree with some people here, the look of the movie looks a little odd. Still, I‘m gonna give it a shot, with Oscar Isaac as lead you can always count me in, great actor.
Looks awesome
Poe must have given up his career as a rebel fighter pilot.
Yesssss...
Okaaayyy Oscar and Tiffany gettin it in! Yep I'm down
Looks like a tv show
I'll watch Oscar and Willem in pretty much anything.
trailers now have their own trailers!
Looks like going to be a great poker crime film the card counter
Mr Schrader is amazing man i love his work.
Every trailer : same hype music and theme
He pushes the young guy onto the bed, then snaps on a rubber glove. Now you have my interest.
Johnny B sent me for the pew pew tactical shirt
I was wondering when standard definition would make a comeback.
Well, there's blackjack, poker and roulette in this film. I like it. I'm watching this!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Looks really good..
This trailer just changed my mind about watching the movie 🤷🏼♂️
Seems great
So it's a darker, grittier Oceans 11 meets 21 meets Payback?
I'm all in!
I'm WATCHING !! #TIFF
had me at Oscar Isaac
i want to watch this
So what is this movie about?
We’re counting cards !!!...Ray !!!
Oscar isaacs is fantastic actor
OK I'm game. He's a good actor and she is showing she is more then just a comedian.
I’ve been waiting for a long time for Scorsese and Schrader to cooperate once again since Bringing Up the Dead.
Why didn't Scorsese just use DeNiro and de-age him with CGI? It worked so well in "The Irishman"...
Plot Twist: This is an Oceans 11 Prequel
Looks like a good movie even with the miscast of Tiffayn Haddish
The next trailer I see Oscar Isaacs in better be the Metal Gear Solid trailer.....
As Old Snake?
Ciekawe jak by został przetłumaczony ten tytuł na polski xD -LICZNIK KART- KRUPIER KARCIARZ DOBRA KARTA WYSOKA KARTA POKER GRA GRACZ BLEF DOGRYWKA REWANŻ ??? Explanation for non Polish users: I wonder how that title would be translated into Polish, because we don't have a translation for the word „counter” in the meaning of a person who counts something (here: cards). We only have the word „licznik” which stands for a device that is used for counting. All in all I find it funny, because we have many of „translations” of foreign titles that completely change the meaning of those titles or even abandon them in order to find out something that fits to the movie xD
More appropriate name could be - 'The Game Theory Optimizer' lol
good cast
This movie shows how the Duke Leto got own a planet.
Well, it's nice that the trailer didn't give the whole movie away like all the other trailers these days!!
Moley moley moley! I'm sorry, i saw something that distracted me. What were yall saying about this trailer? MOLE!
Looks like a straight to redbox release
